5 comments about LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle.
  1. This is the best Lego thing ever! Before I saw this, I thought that Legos were just blocks of plastic that you put together, then take down. I was wrong! This is so much fun ( the best part is messing up the characters.). It was a lot smaller than I imagined when it got put together, but it is good because if you have other Legos, you can sort of add parts to it (so far I have made a house for Ron, a bed for Hermione, and a chair for Harry.). The only thing is that when you have made the table and chairs and you make your characters sit down, it is really hard to pick them back up without picking up the chairs and part of the floor too!

  2. I bought this for my grandson's 6th birthday. Even though he does not read, he was able to follow the instructions for building the castle by looking at the pictures and diagrams. He needed a little help at times in identifying pieces by their length. Since I have read the first two Harry Potter books to him, he was very interested in the Lego castle. He spent two days engrossed in the building of the castle. There were many small details that made the castle worth the extra cost, and the figures of the Harry Potter character's were also a plus. After it was together, he really didn't do much with it, but the assembly, for him, made this his favorite gift.

  3. My 10 year old daughter received the castle for Christmas. She enjoys all things Harry Potter and LOVES the castle. She had no difficulty putting the castle together (it took her about 3 hours). She especially likes the greenhouse. She likes how Lego includes all sorts of small details in the kit that are discussed in the Harry Potter books, e.g Sirius Black's head in the fireplace.

  4. My husband and I purchased this item for our son as his gift from Santa this year. Imagine our disappointment when the set was missing 22 pieces, (which we didn't discover, of course, until we started assembling it)... Our son handled the story that santa and the elves had a rough year ok, but it has been very hard on him waiting for the replacement pieces to come so we can finish building his castle. It was all he wanted and we were not happy to dispapoint him.

On a good note, customer assistance DID order replacement parts, once my husband was able to get someone on the line and keep them there. So all's well that ends well, I guess. Legos' are legendary... all kids love them... and so it should be.

    Sincerely, Ricky Kelly

  5. This was my first set of Legos, and yes, I am an adult. I thought it was challenging enough for my tween children to help me, and still fun for me as well. Plus, the Hogwarts Castle turned out really cool. Harry and the other characters are great looking. Especially Hagrid! The only negative thing I could nit-pick about was the castle is a lot smaller that you would expect. (Comparative to other Lego castles.) Great Lego set for the Harry Potter fan!

5 comments about Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Action Figures Series 1 Se.
  1. The likeness on these figures is amazing...they look so much like the actual actors from the movies. Your child could have hours of fun setting up scenes with these characters. It's nice to have the bonus 5th figure/prop as well when you buy the entire series.

  2. Beware! These figures are nothing like the picture! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and though what fun it would be to have the trio and a very handsome black to display! I receive the items and it was a big let down.

They look nothing like the pictures and there a little inconstancies such as part of Ron's hair wasn't painted, Sirius' beard was a different color on one side than the other, etc. etc. The facial expressions were poor and Harry's glasses were so thick I though he had coke bottles on. Not to mention Ron looks like he swallowed a whole lemon and Hermione's legs are out of proportion.

If you note the pictures, they look like the hair has texture, the glasses normal, and the faces very close to the actors. WRONG, WRONG ,WRONG!

Unless you collect these just to own them, I suggest you spend your money on something else. I have no seen the larger versions, perhaps they are better done, but the 7" are not.

  3. The advertising pictures look just like the characters. The product that you get doesn't. Don't be fooled by the picture. You don't get what you see.

  4. I am leaving the same feedback for 4 of these products.

All in all my kids absolutely love these 7 inch Harry Potter figures. They play with them every day and it really has them using their imagination in their play. They were very excited opening this on Christmas too so the wow factor is very high. They are very realistic looking - not sure why someone in another review said they were not.

The absolute only negative I can give here are the wands. Of the 12 figures we have, 11 have wands (the 9 inch Hagrid does not). Of the 11 wands, 9 have broken so far and the kids have only had them 1 week. Most of the 9 broken wands broke in the first 2 days. All broke when the figure was standing on the floor and fell over. We're talking about a toy that weighs a little less than 1 pound fall 7 inches. Not exactly rough housing here. The wands are very thin plastic and you can tell they are not going to last long. A big disappointment as the wands really add to the magic. They should make these with a steel pin inside. However - we bought these having read from someone else that the wands broke so I am not surprised.

Anyway - over all I am happy with the figures. My kids love them and the loss of the wands has not bothered them *too* much. For now we are using toothpicks cut in half to mimic the wands.

  5. Its a bittersweet review I must write. Although the figurines are well sculpted, proportionately, they have outstanding flaws about them. I found Sirius Blacks legs to be misshapen to the point that he wouldnt stand properly (to speak of that, the toy stands are inadequate) Hermione looks somewhat odd in proportion and has uninteresting arm joints which limits the posing possibilities... Although each figurine looks like the character, they are very delicate. Each comes with a wand, which is only a teeny strip of plastic albeit molded like a wand with detail... Ive broken two. One snapped before I could take it out of the plastic, and the other broke when Sirius fell over, due to his oddly formed legs. The DeathEater dummy that comes with the set is remarkably fragile, the right arm broke off while I was removing the figure from the plastic, and its not repairable. I hate to complain, because the detail of the figures is great, and if you are a fan of the movies or the characters youll love them! However, be careful when handling these figures. Display only. (And I recommend placing them on a stable surface to avoid breakages).

5 comments about Harry Potter Hedwig Plush 8".
  1. I did not purchase this for a child, so the durability was not an issue, however, it does appear to be very well crafted. I love Hedwig in the Harry Potter films and wanted to add her to my collection of Harry Potter books on my bookshelf. I now have my own owl! I am pleased with my purchase.

  2. This particular Hedwig is very poorly made. It's wings are not the same size and one is sewn on crooked. His beak is crooked. His legs and feet are not sewn on properly. I was very disappointed in the quality but didn't have the heart to send it back. I would buy one in a store, if possible, so that I could see the quality of it.

  3. I accidentally had ordered two of the same thing, and they were great about emailing me a label for UPS so I could return it hassle free. I would definately use them again. Great customer service.

  4. Harry Potter Hedwig Plush 8"
I suspect Hedwig of the HP books is supposed to look more like a predator (being an owl and all), but I really like my plushie Hedwig. It's a perfect size and shaped for cuddling while taking a nap, and it's just very pretty in general, especially the black-spotted wings. It doesn't stand up on its own on a soft surface like a bed, but stands perfectly on a hard surface and could be used as a display item--you'd have to dust it a lot (at least if you live where I do, where dust is omnipresent and plentiful) b/c Hedwig's surface is very very white. But I can't imagine leaving her on a shelf. Basically plush Hedwig is very pretty and very cuddly. Being an adult (so-called) who never left her first childhood, I can't testify as to her appeal to young children, but I got very attached to her right away.

So far, however, she has yet to bring me my mail, even just from the mailbox.

And now I'll be returning to book reviews!

  5. I consider myself quite the Harry Potter enthusiast, and now I feel complete! What's a wizard without their owl??? This is such a great toy, she is very life-like, especially her eyes! I recommend this item for any Harry Potter fan...young or old! Now if only she could get the Mail!!!

  1. What can you expect for $5? Not much really. So when this arrived I thought, yep, $5 is $5, and this is what this looks like it cost. The on/off switch came broken but you can still turn the thing on and off. Good for kids because it's all plastic. But it's what you get for $5.

  2. This is a cute little plastic lantern....was perfect as a decoration for a Potter-themed birthday party. It's not terribly durable, though; when knocked off the table, the on/off switch bent and no longer works well (have to jiggle it a bit to get it to stay on.) I would recommend this as a decorative or collectible item, but it will not likely hold up as a toy.

  3. Wow! I never knew it wouldn't mach the picture, it is still good though. I took off the handle and am thinking of attaching a chain around the ring. I received the batteries on the 20th, and it works!!! It has a bright light. It turns from yellow to a nice golden rod color. I put it far on my desktop, so it can't fall. Just, WOW.

5 comments about Harry Potter Wand with light and sound.
  1. this was what my nephew really wanted for Christmas. it was inexpensive enough, that should have been a warning. it took fits to get the batteries in right so that it would turn on. then once it started working after a few "spells" it started shorting out. maybe lasted 5 minutes. we were always able to resurrect it but i doubt it will last longer than a few weeks. i would have preferred to have spent more and been assured he could enjoy it for a long while.

  2. My son was very happy with it. It has 3 different sounds and light. The only inconvinient is that it has not an on and off button, so it is always on.

  3. We're die-hard Harry Potter fans and we LOVE this wand. With sounds and a lighted end that emulate the films, both my little wizards (ages 5 & 8) have had hours of fun casting spells galore. It's the closest thing to a "real" Harry Potter wand I've found - and I've searched everywhere. Durable and affordable, too.

  4. This was a Christmas present and it was very well received. I researched other ones and this one had the best features.

  5. The wand with sound and light isn't what I was expecting, but we have enjoyed it. I knew it lit up and was expecting it to be more of a flashlight, but it actually lights when you "cast spells" with it. The action of your arm movement causes it to light and make "magical" sounds. It has 3 different sounds that it makes. It has been fun-I'm as big a kid when it comes to stuff like this as my children are!

4 comments about Book of Monsters Officially Licensed Harry Potter Plush.
  1. I bought this for my 4 year old who is dressing as Hermione for Halloween this year. And this "Monster Book of Monsters" is just the perfect prop to complete her Halloween costume.

And as an added bonus if you pull it's tongue it vibrates.

She also loves to take it to daycare and snuggle up with it at naptime.

  2. I gave this as a gift to my Harry Potter-obsessed friends and they adored it. It doesn't do much other than shake when you pull its tongue, but it brings a priceless smile to those who loved the books.

    The wait was worth it.

  3. This is a must have for the die hard Harry Potter fan. It is basically a stuffed animal but so adorable and it looks just like the monster book in the movie. I bought it for my 9 year old Harry Potter fan and she loved it. (but her room is starting to look like Hogwarts as we add this to the collection)

  4. We purchased this plush as a gift for our 12 year old Potter fan and she absolutely loves it. Even her 5 year old brother loves it, especially when he pulls the tongue. It was a big hit with her friends too. In fact, we bought a second one to give as a birthday gift. It is soft and light, making it an easy travel toy. It is a nice edition to any Potter fan's collection. The one caveat ... there seems to be no way to replace the battery. A major flaw in this otherwise whimsical and charming toy.

5 comments about Scene It? Deluxe Harry Potter 2nd Edition.
  1. First off, all of the traits of Scene It apply here, meaning it is a bit contrived to begin with, you'll need to be near a TV and DVD player, and someone needs to know how to navigate the DVDs. I almost think the all is already reason enough to shave a star, but I suppose if it were all well done, it could be justified. It's not.

Beyond some of the issue with Scene It, the question selection ranges from idiotic to asinine. While that's a remarkable range, it's not fun to play. One player gets some random question on a little known British actor in a bit part and another gets a simple question that can be answered by anyone who watches the clip that serves as a clue. Throw in the additional random luck of the dice, and it really becomes little more fun than just playing a dice game. Heck that would involve less space, have a simpler setup, and cost less.

In regards to the Harry Potter content, it's based on the films, and does little for readers of the books, but it also manages to reward die hard fans of the movies. Gosh if I was going to make it based on the films, I would focus on stuff even those who aren't die hard fans would enjoy, as if I'm hanging out with a bunch of Harry Potter fans, playing this game is not my first choice for an activity. It shouldn't be yours. Heck, I'd rather watch a movie or listen to Jim Dale.

  2. This game is fun and worth the price. Any Harry Potter fan will enjoy it very much.

  3. My children and I love this game, we just wish we could also find the 1st edition to the game so we can use them together. If you like Hogwart's and despise Slitherin ~ you'll get into this game with your kids and learn some things along the way about some other things that went on around the world of Harry Potter.

  4. This is a great way to expend extra time with your kids. This game tests all your knowledge about all Harry Potter's films.

  5. We got my daughter the deluxe 2nd ed. off Amazon for Christmas. The thing was, we already had the regular edition under the tree, but the deal for the deluxe was good, so we had her open one and then traded it for the other. Having had both, here is what you need to know:

There is NO BONUS DISC in Harry Potter Deluxe Ed. (there is one for the Disney one). They never made one! Amazon advertises one, and when we called them they apologized but they didn't fix the description. The bulleted info still claims there is a bonus disc.

Everything else is the same between the versions, except for 4 Harry Potter trading cards.

We called Scene-It to find out if they were really charging that much more for 4 trading cards and they said the deluxe has a tin box. Thing was, we had found a tin box (non-deluxe) that some stores had. So even the tin box (whoop-de-doo) wasn't even special (not that I would have paid extra for a box).

At least in the regular version we had, the box, board, etc were the same color, etc. Regardless, your not getting more questions or clips, or even better game pieces. Your getting 4 cards and possibly a better box.

As for the game itself, its pretty much the usual scene-it experience. I can't see adults sitting around and playing this, but its fun for kids who are huge Harry Potter fans. Despite what they say, though, you do need to be a huge fan to be competitive against someone that is. Especially if that person has read the books. While the game is completely movie based, reading the books gives a much better understanding of the movies and a huge advantage in this game. Make sure your child has someone who will be able to play with him/her.

5 comments about Radica Harry Potter 20 Questions Electronic Game.
  1. The Harry Potter version of electronic 20 Questions is tons of fun, mainly because the toy guesses correctly a high percentage of the time. Having a more focussed set of data makes this possible. You can 'quiz' it about obscure objects, characters (even very minor ones), and places. It has data about all 7 books, plus the 5 movies out so far. Kids and adults who visit my house are drawn to this toy.

  2. Like the 20Q game, this electronic game asks yes/no questions and tries to "guess" what the user is thinking. The idea here is of course that the Harry Potter version would be programmed with every imaginable creature, prop and character from the books and movies. However, my children have thought of lots of things (inferi, Marvolo, etc.) that do not seem to be on the game's list. Despite this shortcoming, it's really a fun game, and is reasonably priced.
Note that the toy itself is the little golden ball (shaped like a snitch from quidditch) and a small stand. The wings protruding from the snitch are part of the packaging.

  3. This is a great toy if you love the Harry Potter books or movies.

To those not already familiar with the 20Q game, it's a small, handheld electronic toy that tries to guess what you're thinking! The scrolling screen asks a series of questions, to which you press a button to indicate Yes, No, Sometimes, or Unknown. And the accuracy is pretty
consistent! I own a few different versions of 20Q, and I'm still amazed.
But the Harry Potter model is by far my favorite. True fans will have a lot of fun trying to stump the game with bizarre objects or obscure characters. I can also see this toy keeping kids quiet for hours on end.
And it's shaped like a golden snitch, with a display stand, and removable wings! Adorable!
I can't put it down, I really do recommend it.

  4. I saw this in store today, test it. Very interesting. I think it's bit challenge than regualar 20Q game because it's from books/movies. No way my mom could play this, hee hee. Boy! I would have to brush up my books again! Very nice, creative game and look cute when it's with wings. Has stand for it. I bought it after test it. Never thought they would create that one. Should have wait for all 7 movies... oh well.

  5. It's pretty amazing how often these little ball computers can guess what you're thinking in 20 questions that on the surface don't seem to be very specific at all. At times, it is downright spooky how it does it. I wish this game was updated to include all seven books.
