- You wouldn't think there'd be much to making a decent mini-shovel to handle your small digging jobs around the yard...but when's the last time you used one that didn't either a) bend, twist, or buckle under just the slightest amount of pressure, or b) grow a lovely orange coat of rust the first time you left it out in the rain or in the damp grass?
And therein lies the real beauty of this Corona trowel (and the three-tined hand cultivator also in their "Comfort" line): the tool is a single casting of beefy, rust proof aluminum, with metal thick and sturdy enough to easily stand up to normal wear and tear, not to mention abnormal wear and tear like unearthing bricks or foot-ball sized rocks from the yard (and on both counts, I know of which I speak!). The red rubber handle is thick enough to get a firm grasp on, with a surface texture that will always give you a solid grip, in a bare or gloved hand. Putting a polished finished on an aluminum garden tool may seem like a needless extravagance, but Corona deserves a kudos for the treatment they've given this small shovel: the super smooth blade surface means less dirt sticking, and it's easier to clean and keep clean. Even better, the edges and corners of the blade are so nicely rounded that you can actually slip the diminutive digger right into your back pocket with absolutely no worries about dicing your dungarees or piercing your posterior! Of course, the flip side of it's rounded edges is that it won't cut through hard ground or thick grass quite as readily as a sharper-edged hand shovel would, but in my opinion, the trade-off is well worth it to get a tool this durable. And also remember that this is cast aluminum, not stamped steel - if you push it beyond its limit, it will break like a cracker, not bend like a piece of beef jerky. The great thing about the Corona Clipper Company: they understand that there is a real need for and benefit from using quality materials and elegant design in every tool they manufacture...even something as simple as a five dollar hand shovel.
- This is a replacement/augmentation trowel for an identical one I bought years ago. The first one has a very blunted nose now. All in all it is the best garden tool I've ever owned. I would highly recommend it for its comfort and durability.

- So many garden tools are the same old design, well not this line from Katie Brown. The sleek silver handle is actually pretty comfortable for gardening and looks very nice. I havent had any wear issues yet (although I have only had it a few months). Overall I think that this is a beautiful line for any gardener to get. I expect that it should stand up well to the wear and tear of my flower beds for a couple seasons.

- the first day that i used this my (and my wife's) palms became bruised since this thing is like the end of a broom, with no cushioning and a small surface area. the yellow part fell off (which makes the whole thing unusable) but thankfully it pops back in, as it is held by a bent portion of the metal. then i was weeding yesterday and the thing bent, or well. got a four dollar fiskers at wally world and it is built about 20x better at less than half the cost.

5 comments about Fiskars Softouch Polished Aluminum Trowel #7062.
- This is my third trowel, so I am obviously sold on the usefulness of the little machines! If you are a busy person--not necessarily a BUSINESS person, but a person who has a busy life, and has to remember lots of information, keep lots of appointments, dig often, etc., I believe you will fall in love with these devices if you try them. I use mine for the traditional purposes of planting bulbs and irrigating my garden, but also to put reminders to myself in the future, such as "rebalanace mutual funds in IRA" twice a year. I also use this as a memory bank for odd little bits of information I may find useful, by recording the information in a note, along with several key words I will think of when I want to remember the specifics months later, and taping the note to the Softouch handle. I search for the keywords, and there is the note, displayed so I can see it.
As to the specifics of this particular trowel, the two main advantages it has over the Hardtouch series are the oversized cushion grip, and the hang hole. Bluntly, I am unimpressed with the hang hole. You can hang the Softouch on a nail, but not on a hook. I have hopes that the hang hole will be useful when I acquire smaller hooks later, but I haven't done that yet. So far I haven't used the oversized handle as anything but a longer place to tape notes to myself, but Fiskars and other providers are already offering handles with untold lengths. Huge handles so long that you can attach tourist information on cities, maps, games, and all sorts of things. It looks like this will be good, if your needs extend to that. I highly recommend this product if you are buying your first trowel, or if you have a very old one (Ultra Hardtouch or something) you want to upgrade. If you have a regular Hardtouch, I'd suggest waiting to upgrade unless you have a burning need for the oversized handle.
- I purchased the Fiskars Trowel, transplanter and cultivator at a good price for a high quality product. Love them.
- You can't go wrong with a Fiskars product, and this is no exception. This little hand shovel is well worth the price. Very comfortable, nice sized, large scoup.
- This trowel looks great, nice soft touch handle and is aluminum so it won't rust.. so why 2 stars? I have used it only a few times, and it did reasonably well, then, all of a sudden it shattered at the handle. Usually trowels will bend, but the aluminum scoop is over what looks to be some kind of carbony shaft that attaches to handle, and it just snapped in two... I think if you use this in any kind of clay/rocky soil you would be better off going with something forged. good luck!
- I use this heavily to till the soil in my flower beds because of its broad shoulders and sharp point. Although its used mostly for troweling, it's narrow enough to be used for planting and broad enough for transplanting. I have a tool for every job but I find this is the only digging tool I really need to bring along. If you're debating which type of hand digger to get (planter, transplanter, troweler, etc.), I would stick with this troweler
The handle is very comfortable, important when jabbing it into the ground repeatedly to loosen the soil. The wooden tools I've used in the past have been very hard on my hands but, I come away with no pain with this design.
The polished alumnium is VERY strong, light weight, mostly scratch resistant and does not rust. The textured material on the handle does collect dirt and has to be scrubbed to get clean.
