- This sharpener is well made. Although somewhat small for large knives it performs adequately. Included extras (honing guide and oil) were appreciated and useful. I would recommend this item to consumers with basic knife sharpening needs. Might not be suitable for commercial use or large cutlery.
- great product does a professonal job.
it is a great product for the best quality knives. Thanks
- I bought this sharpening system for my Henckels, they are the light of my kitchen and I use them daily for cooking. I hadn't sharpened them since I bought them and the honing just wasn't doing it anymore. I shopped around and found this item at my local hardware store for TWICE the price, so I bought mine here on Amazon.
I agree with one of the other reviewers on the size - they are a little small for full size knives, requiring the user to work just a little bit harder. This is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.
This sharpening system got my knives razor sharp - literally. I was able to shave hair from my forearm with my Santoku after sharpening with this product. The kit is well made, with the plastic parts being very thick and durable - I expect it to last a while.
Because the base is smooth and flat, I recommend putting it down on something non stick (I used a damp towel) when sharpening larger knives, it helped a lot.

5 comments about DMT W250FCNB 10" DuoSharp Bench Stone Fine / Coarse - No Base.
- Other than what seems a steep $100 price, diamonds are the way to go for sharpening chisels. The large size is really nice. The two grits are good for general chisel sharpening.
- Excellent product for honing a perfect edge for those hand tools. Get a coarse, fine and extra fine stone to dress those tools to perfection.
- Fantastic product. Beats sharpening stones hands down.
I will purchase the extra fine/extra coarse stone soon.
Would definitely buy the base to go with the stone.
Its about 4" wide which makes it useful for plane blades.
- Great product;much better than the original DMT Bench Stones. The extra width
really helps when sharpening plane irons.
- After buying any number of "pro" quality stones, sticks, machines and gadgets, I should have saved my time and money and bought this to begin with, Id have saved a mint. With two sides I can do just about all I need without fear of burning, unless I want a polished edge.

3 comments about Woodstock International G4233 Japanese Water Combo Stone - 1000/6000 Grit.
- Where have these stones been all my life? They are 100 times better than regular sharpening stones. Excellent product.
- I rated this stone 4 stars. First of all i like the fact it had 2 grits on both sides. It sharpened to a mirror like finish. However waterstone tend to wear very easily, and the thickness of each grits is only 1/2 inch. The overall stone was 1 in so each side has 1/2 inch of the stone. The waterstone wore out very quick resulting in my lapping my stone every 3-4 chisel or plane irons.
-
I have resisted hand tools and chisels in general because I could never get them sharp enough and it took forever. A friend showed me how easy it was to tune one up on a water stone (once they have been hollow ground) and I was amazed at how little time and what good results came from it. Now, I use chisels and feel it slice the fiber instead of tear it. The combination 1000/6000 stone may not last overly long, but I'll get dedicated thicker ones when the time comes because water stones are the way as far as I'm concerned.

5 comments about Stanley 16-050 Sharpening System.
- The only instructions are diagrams (no words) on the back of the package, and it took me a couple minutes to figure out how to adjust the blade holder. Once set up, the tool and supplied stones did a great job on my plane blades and an old chisel. Very pleased.....
- Having bought a Stanley honing jig a couple of years ago for personal use, I was pleased with it enough to buy one for work as well. However, what a difference a couple of years make! While the basic design is exactly the same, where it is made is not. The one I had originally bought was made in England. The castings were tight, clean and smooth. This one was made in, well two guesses as to where and the first one doesn't count. The castings a rougher and the angle gage wobbles so you never if you're truely square or not. As for the stone, it's too narrow. Any chisel over an inch and a half or plane iron greater than a number three can not be sharpened on this stone, which for most shops, makes it almost completely useless. Plus it soaks up too much oil and clogs too easily.
Now doen't think I'm jumping on the "Stanley sucks" bandwagon. Most of my tools are modern Stanley's and I'm more than pleased with their performance. But what I'm afraid of; is that pretty soon that won't be the case. As all the major manufacturers sell their souls to jump on the "Chinatastic" bandwagon too line their own (and their share holders too) pockets, we, the average consumer are left with inferior prducts at only a slightly cheaper (if that) price.
Final thought; it's ok for what it is, but it's not what it used to be, and doesn't bode well for what it will be, unless we do something to change it.
- original shipping envelope allowed stone to be broken in shipment. Amazon immediately replaced item (no charge) only with my notification by e-mail. I am very happy with sharpener and with buying from Amazon.

- I bought this mostly for the honing guide since I already have diamond sharpening stones. The honing guide works well but the quality is not there. It does work but your have to hold it carefully.
Just for kicks, I took a look at the stone and mine was totally flat so I didn't need to flatten the stone at all. I haven't used it yet but that was surprising since most cheap stones don't come completely flat.
- I consider this a total waste of money for the very simple reason that it is imposible to clamp a chisel or plane blade squarely. There is no straight edge to register the edge of the blade on. Also, the wheels are remarkably cheap plastic. I am going to buy one of the standerd "vise" style guides.

5 comments about DMT B8250 DuoSharp DuoBase - bench stone base.
- I use this base to hold 4" DMT whetstones and sharpen chisels and planes. These heavy items can move around an unsecured sharpening system. Plus the DMT stones are used wet which makes the table top slippery unless you are a lot neater than I am.
I was very satisfied with the plastic base. It never moved even when placed on wet formica. The elevated height allowed me to guide the tool along the edge and to flatten the chisel backs without hitting fingers on the table top. Eight rubber washers slip over plastic feet. Sounds flimsy, but its not. I would recommend gluing the rubber feet on at some point just so they don't get lost. It also lets one store the diamond plate without scratching other surfaces or damaging the plate bottom. The diamond stone came with a non-skid pad, but it would not hold a piece of plate glass still unless the table top was perfectly flat (and most are not). The main disadvantage to the holder is that the stone cannot be easily flipped over. One plastic end must be removed and then reinserted. Maybe a 15 second job, but if you are going to use both sides in succession, it's inconvenient. I wish I had bought a coarse/fine combo instead of a fine/x-fine. Money well spent.
- This base really helps make it easier to sharpen with bench stones. It provides lots of knuckle clearance and you can change out your different sharpening bench stones. It fits all types 6"x2" sized sharpening stones. It's great that it also has a feature on the underside for hand held sharpening of hard to hold tools..axes, that type of thing. It was good investment to add versatility to my tool bench!
- Does exactly as promised...Holds your duostone whetstone securely in place during use. Added plus is the height of this thang allows a large handed person like me to sharpen a long kitchen knife all the way to the hilt.
- I ordered this and a combination diamond stone but they arrived loose in a box. Fortunately their individual packages prevented any damage. However the duo base requires 12 rubber cushions and only 10 were in the package. I sent two emails to DMT about this and received NO response. Not even an acknowledgement to the emails. I was able to find similar cushions and the stone with base work like a champ. I tried to make Amazon aware of this but their website will only let you 'return' items. I only want to make them aware of the lack of communication from the manufacturer and this review area is the only apparent avenue to do that.
- I must admit I was expecting something heavier and better quality. This is made out of plastic with rubber contacts to prevent it from slipping. I placed my duosharp stone on it and placed the whole thing on my tile counter tops. The rubber feet do slip after the countertops get wet (which they will since you need the water to lubricate). The little rubber mat that came with the duosharp stone I bought was better. I did like the fact that it raises the stone so it makes it easier to use.

3 comments about DMT Diafold Double Sided Diamond Knife Sharpener.
- had great success reviving dull router bits with this tool. i wish the whetstone part was a bit thinner to fit between the carbide tip and anti-kickback finger on my freud saw blade, however DMT offers smaller 'file' shaped whetstones better suited for saw blades.
- This product is great...easy to store, easy to use, very portable...the cover is built in. Due to the high quality diamond surface it sharpens much faster than a regular sharpener, it doesn't require any additional oils(just water if you want to), just rinse off the polka dot pattern of what's left from sharpening and you're done. It's handy to have around the house to do a 'quick few strokes' to sharpen whatever tool you happen to be using. The sharpener has 2 grits built in. I like that it's made in the US.
- Love this product. Have been using it for a about 6 month now. It works fast and I was able to get the feel for sharpening my henkel and wusthof kitchen knives. I even bring this with me when I go over to my relatives. They love their knives when I am done with them. Takes a little getting used to sharpening by hand, but once you do there is no turning back. I now keep all my knives razor sharp. Two different grades of the stone are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this product.

2 comments about AccuSharp Shear Sharp Scissor Sharpener.
- This sharpener works great, just like it's sister product (the knife sharpener) of the same manufacturer. After just a few seconds of sharpening I had my scissors as sharp as a knife! I can cut materials without even closing the scissors! Worth every penny.
- I found this product much less easy to use and did not do as good a job of putting an edge on scissors and shears. The knife sharpener is great and i take one with me whenever i travel and am without my chef's choice 3 stage sharpener. The scissors sharpener however wasn't nearly as user friendly. It did improve the edge reasonably well after a while.

- I haven't used the product yet, because I just purchased the actual knife sharpener with a new blade already in it. AccuSharp products in general have always been fantastic and affordable -- I'm sure when it comes time to replace the blade, I will be happy with the performance.
- I purchased this item after seeing it reviewed on Americas test kitchen. It works very well.

5 comments about Fiskars Axe and Knife Sharpener #7861.
- Good product for the price. It does provide a quick and easy "utility-grade" sharpening. However, it is no substitute for an old-fashioned (but time consuming) hand sharpening using stones.
- This product is well made and does what it's supposed to with ease. It's far superior to other axe sharpeners I owned. I'd recommend it to everyone who puts their axe through it's paces. It's quick and easy to use, saving you time for chopping.
- sonuvabitch! everyone should have one of these sharpeners for knives and hatchets. i will also take some of this time to promote the sport of disc golf. it is the most fun you will ever have, and it is way cheaper than regular golf...google it and look for a park near you that has some baskets.
- I love my sharpener, it restores the factory razor edge with ease, a must have.
- If one really wants to put a razor sharp edge on an axe or knife, a set of diamond whetstones is the best way to do it. This painstaking manual process requires time and proper technique. Beware: a razor sharp edge is exactly that and not to be trifled with. On the other hand, if "pretty darn sharp" is good enough...and it should be for most utility purposes...a dedicated sharpening tool like the Fiskars will get the job done quickly and with minimum risk to one's fingers. There are a number of similar products on the market. This one comes from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point.

5 comments about AccuSharp Knife Sharpener.
- We purchased this because it was recommended by America's Test Kitchen. As usual, their recommendation is a good one. This is one of the cheapest and most-often-used gadgets in my kitchen. It keeps everything razor sharp, from expensive Henckels knives to cheap grocery-store paring knives. I haven't tried it on a serrated knife, but it advertises that it will sharpen these too, which is another reason we purchased it. Recommended.
- This knife sharpener was highly rated by America's Test Kitchen on PBS, and for good reason. It is so easy to use; with a little bit of practice, you can get consistent results every time. This is a simple tool, but read the instructions first just to make sure you're using it correctly! The AccuSharp is small, portable, easy to use and priced right. It works! Highly recommended!
- I had my doubts when I unpacked this sharpener. It seems to be very cheaply made. But it does sharpen my kitchen knives.
- Great value! I recently purchased the Henckels International Fine Edge Stylus knife block set for a smokin' low price, and was concerned that, because they weren't the top of the line Henckels, they wouldn't stay sharp. They did lose their edge rather quickly, but I use them almost daily and the honing steel could only accomplish so much. Faced with a beautiful, though dull set of knives, my first thought was, "Oh, no, I need to buy an expensive and counter-cluttering electric knife sharpener". I know that a sharp knife is a safe knife, and after two slips and cuts, I was ready to take the plunge and spend. Thanks to the great Cook's Illustrated review of this easy to use manual sharpener, I didn't have to! The Accusharp quickly and safely returned my knives to their original razor sharpness--no more cuts and worn out, sore arms and hands from bearing down on my knives. It was easy to get the hang of using it, even for me, a knife sharpening novice who formerly feared and dreaded this task! It's a good, 'intuitive' sharpening tool...you actually can feel the blade as it becomes sharper. A couple of passes with the honing steel to straighten the edge, and I'm good to go! Best of all, no counter space required, goes right in the utensil drawer, lightweight, and you can control how heavy or light the passes are, so no fear of nicking or chunking out a piece of your knife on a grinding wheel.I know that someday I will need to make a trip to a professional knife sharpener for a new edge, but I'm really grateful that this product will keep me going for a while in the meantime.
- When I first purchased this item, my mom said it was a bad decision. Yet, when I got it, she was proved wrong!!! I bet most knife sharpeners wouldn't be able to sharpen my knife that hasn't been sharpened in like two years up to that point. When I used this simple, simple, idiot-proof contraption, it was sharpened very easily and in not that much time. So if you want a knife sharpener for as little money as possible you're best off buying this thing.
