  1. This is an excellent tool.

I have two sizes, but use the 8" most often. It works well to pull nails, cut wires, nibble metal, and bend, break, cut, or remove all manner of materials.

The nipper gets into tight spots to pull nails when a hammer or pry bar won't fit.

I used this tool last night. I was removing an old fireplace for a basement remodelling project. I used it to pull nails from the wooden framing. Then I cut the thick wire in the reinforced fabric ducting connected to the blower assemblies. I used it to cut the 12 gauge Romex to the blower (diag cutters or lineman's pliers may be the purist' choice-but I had this tool in hand...)Finally, I used it to bend sharp, nasty sheet metal edges into less dangerous shapes/positions when I was ready to carry the firebox outside.

I have also used it in the past to grab rounded screw heads and extract them.

Dependable tool. Frequently and successfully used. Highly recommended.

  2. End cuting pliers are one of the most useful tools on the planet. Someone needs to give them a better name, something a little sexier. I use mine mostly for pulling nails - they're the only way to go.

  3. You can't go wrong with Channellock. I have been using these pliers for a couple of months now to pull and cut nails. They are comfortable to use and provide fantastic leverage when pulling nails. I highly recommend.

  1. In my early days in the electrical trade I worked with a journeyman that had a pair of these and was shocked how simple they made the installation of any kind of chain hung light fixture.

I started looking for a pair of these a couple of years ago and couldn't find them anywhere.

Thanks Amazon for cutting my installation time and giving me the ability to install light fixtures without destroying the finish with a pair of pliers! Now I can have apprentices amazed at the handy tools I carry also.

  2. Chain pliers are the only way to go when hanging chained lighting. Strength isn't necessary because the tool does all the work for you, without marring the decorative surface. Never again will I consider doing this task without these pliers.

  3. If you have any kind a of a chandelier or lamp with a chain that needs adjustments, then this is the tool for you. It makes easy work of opening and closing the chain links with no damage to the chain. Currently I only have 2 chandeliers to hang, actually 1 is hung and the other will be hung soon. As far as I am concerned this tool has already paid for itself with the 1 chandelier that I have hung. I am a firm believer in having the right tool for the job, this is the right tool when it comes to chandelier hanging.

  4. I received the pliers in a timely manner. They worked well. I had a heavy chandelier with a fairly thick chain, and regular pliers just marked up the finish and didn't close the link. I couldn't have installed the chandelier myself without this tool. It worked well (no marring) and it worked quickly. The right tool for the job.

  5. We just replaced a dining room light and had alot of problems with the chain links. We hope the next time this tool will come in handy.

  1. As a Union Electrician, Ive used many Types of "Slip Joint Pliers", and Channellock 440s are always appropriate for any Gripping Job You have, Big Or Small. Excellent Locking Power allows you to hold even if you lose your grip on the tool.Theres a reason why Channel lock is the trade name for the tool, regardless of brand.

  2. They are Channellocks. The do what they are supposed to do better than any other brand of tounge and groove pliers.

  3. This is the number one tool used by professional plumbers. They are simply the best tools. These are a little larger than the standard size but they are still great.

  4. I have used them a couple times now and they seem to be a really good pair of channel locks.

  5. This is, by far, the single most used tool I have had for my entire life. The 440 Channellock not only works on so many plumbing applications but also for electrical, automotive, carpentry(pulls nails and grips studs), and just about anything else you can work on. I have had one pair since I was a child and they still work good even though they are the most worn, used, and abused tool I have. If I were being tortured and could have only one tool I would have to pick this one. It is an absolute necessity and highly recommended. Channellock is also still made in U.S.A. and that just makes me recommend them more. Look for those blue handles stickin' out 'cause that's the tool your lookin' for.

5 comments about Gerber 22-41506 Clutch Mini Pliers Keychain Tool - Special Ops Gray.
  1. I bought the Clutch to replace my Leatherman Squirt that was taken from me at the airport. I saw and felt the Clutch in a store and thought it would be much stronger than my Squirt was. I am very disappointed in the quality of the tool, though. I have already sent mine back once for a broken pliers (under warranty), and now my replacement doesn't hold the knife blade in place if I try to cut anything. The "strength" and heft of the tool is all smoke and mirrors - it's actually a very weak tool. I keep it in my pocket everyday, but rarely use it for anything but a knife. I'm very disappointed overall and will move back to Leatherman next time. The Lifetime Warranty is nice, but at the price to ship it back to them I can just buy a different tool that won't cause problems.

  2. I've had this for just 31 days when I used the blade to crack chips off a block of chocolate (note chips, I was not intending to slice through the block). I was pointing the blade tip down so that I wouldn't apply too much stress on the blade but the blade slipped outwards anyway. The small strip of metal, that kept the blade snugly in place, bent outwards. Now the blade is loose and doesn't click in place.

My > 10-yr old Swiss Army pocket knife is a lot sturdier than the Gerber Clutch mini tool.

  3. The pliers are OK, but the blades are hard to use, and not very useful.

  4. I'm unimpressed with the strength and quality. The lockout on the pliers broke the first time I needed to apply some moderate grip strength. Now I can fail the pliers by squeezing my finger. The bottle opener is poor. I often ended up using the pliers to open bottles. After 4 weeks, its in the trash.

  5. When folded, this item isn't much bigger than a box of matches. For daily use it's been really great for me and it has come in very handy on several occasions. This is not meant for heavy duty work, so don't buy it with the expectation that it will perform anything more than light, daily tasks. This is very well machined and has proven to be very durable. The blade sharpens very well. I put a large strain on the pliers the other day while pulling heavy duty staples from packaging, but the tool held up quite well. Considering that the pliers are the distinguishing feature of this tool, I'm really pleased with their durability and usefulness. I also have used the screwdrivers and tweezers several times without any trouble.
Pros: Tiny and easy to pocket. Well machined and durable for such a tiny size. Useful set of tools makes it a valuable daily pocket item. Excellent price for the quality.
Cons: A little heavy; probably not good as a keychain. Phillips screwdriver looks a little thin on the cross-axis, but so far it's worked very well.

5 comments about Gerber Diesel Multi-Plier.
  1. The Diesel Needlenose is only a little bigger than one of my favorite multi-tools of all time, the Gerber 400/Sport model, which is hard to beat for compactness without sacrificing utility.
The Diesel doesn't waste its extra size on more of the same and is definitely a great competitor to the vernable 400/Sport.
Like all good Gerber products, it can be opened one handed, and has all the basic tools you need for work, camping, or in many other situations. When I first started my career, a friend gave me a Gerber and said, "Wear it for a week." Now I feel like I lost my keys when I'm without it.

  2. I purchased mine as a kit from W*Mart. It included the extra bit set for less than most were selling just the tool for.

I use mine in my work EVERYDAY! It was tight at first but a very tiny bit of graphite powder made that work-in go faster and it's a breeze to deploy the pliers with just a flick of the wrist (everybody I work with grins when they hear that snap-open sound.) The great bit set (standard 1/4" screwdriver bits) comes with a piece that fits over the otherwise disappointing standard phillips head that comes built in. But this bit set lets me have what I need for any situation in the field.

The wire cutters cut clean and smoothly (important for the wiring we do) and the knive will cut through just about anything I need it to. There's a great saw blade (saw/knife) that cuts through thick plastics and wood. The scissors in this are bigger than the other models and I use them all the time.

I've had this tool about a year now and all my colleagues with their Leathermans have gone to W*Mart and purchased one of these! We look like the Gerber brigade :) but that tool is one of those things I don't leave the house without, anymore!

I agree with others that it would be nice for them to have taken the 1/4 second to stamp the side with a ruler/scale like the other units. I, too, used that frequently. I've actually taken a nail/scribe and marked the thing off myself but it is silly they didn't add that feature.

  3. I've worked on the water (salt) for 15 years, so my tools see more rough environment treatment than the average. Over the years I've owned a Leatherman (original), SOG 'Paratool', the original Gerber 'slide out' needlenose plier, and most recently the Gerber Diesel.

The Diesel comes with a natty nylon sheath that goes right on your belt. The downside with the velcro closure is that over time, of course, it gets gummed up with schmutz and the like. I prefer a brass snap, but your mileage might vary.

Within a month and a half, my Diesel showed signs of oxidation, especially around the tips of the plier and the plier pivot. That was disappointing, to say the least. Although the tools did seem stronger than the original slide out design, the pivots that allow the tools to swing out became loose within a month. Halfway through the season they had developed so much play that getting the plier head retracted became impossible without manually jiggling all the loose tools.

I finally had the set sent in to Gerber for servicing. After six weeks of no response, I contacted Gerber and was informed that they had never received it.

Needless to say, I will not be purchasing any Gerber products any time soon. The Diesel was a terrible disappointment, and I bought it when it was new.

Best of luck if you purchase this device. I hope your mileage is better than mine.

  4. This is an excellent tool to keep around for almost every need. Quite strong and compact, it's the ideal tool to keep on your belt (mine goes with me everytime I go fishing... about 200 days a year!) The "quick deploy" feature is very convenient; a flick of your wrist and it's ready to work, whether you need to tighten a nut or remove a hook. Highly recommended.

  5. Another great Gerber product. I have purchased several over many years and the quality always gets better! Can not say that about many things these days.

  1. The tools appear to be identical to item number B00005A1HG, this kit is exactly what they say it is. I needed a kit that I could use from time to time when camping or for around the home. I don't think the tools are meant to be used everyday but they are more than adequate for the occasional use. The axe is extremely sharp and the case is compact and tough. You will not cut a tree down with the pruning saw but I had no problem with small branches, the handle is very comfortable and the blade is very sharp. I was a bit leery about the shovel at first but after tightening it down nice and tight, it became pretty sturdy and easy to use. It is after all a folding shovel. A good set for the price.

  2. The Denali 5 piece Outdoor Utility and Emergency Kit is exactly what anyone would want to have in
their car especially during the winter. It comes conveniently stowed in an excellent case that holds
a good quality shovel, a multi tool set, a swivel flashlight and a hatchet.
Possibly for any stray fallen cherry trees that might need chopping (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
There is even available storage for any other small item you might want to add. I added an Emergency Safety Hammer to mine. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box as I wasn't really expecting the kit to be of such good quality! This would make a great gift. Buy it you never know when you might need to use it. Nice to have . . . just in case! ~ The Boss

  3. Some of these tools are cheap China knock offs of Leatherman and others.
If you want the best keep shopping.

  4. I received my kit within days of placing my order ( Excellent service !)
And I am very pleased with the items contained inside the travel case.

I consider the Kit an excellent value and would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting the added security that an emergency kit provides.

  5. This is the best tool to be selected for camping. Easy to use and light to carry. Every thing you need for camping will be found in this package tools.

  1. Great product for the price. Use it at work which is compact on the belt. Great size for small repairs.

  2. I'm an avid outdoorsman and hunter. I have several different hunting/hiking packs and each one has a Gerber Multi-Tool. The Suspension model is a great little tool to have around.

  3. I really like this tool. Especially for the price. It is roughly a third the price of a similar Leatherman. The quality is excellent and it has all the tools you would want in a multi-tool. The size is perfect and handle comfortable. Some people have said the scissors lack a little. My thought is you are using them to trim a thread or cut a bandage in an emergency. If you want to sew a suit, use a real pair of scissors. The same for the saw, sure it is alittle small, but it works in pinch with reasonable expectations. The only tool I slightly missed was a file. All in all, the tools all work excellent and overall the tool is great value if you remember it's "A jack of all trades and master of none"! To anybody that feels any of the tools are lacking, my reply would be, that you are asking too much of a multi-tool and you need to go get a full size of the tool you are disappointed in.

  4. If you'd read any of my other reviews you'd know I give a 3 as normal and 4-5 are resevered for items that beat expectations. This is a 4. Works better than I expected. Just feels high quality!

  5. I recently bought for a gift for my dad. He is always asking to borrow my gerber so thought that I would buy him his own. I like so many features on this one that I ended up buying one for myself as well. The spring needle nose was an excellent idea. On top of that the price is almost half what I bought my other gerber for. Plus the warranty is lifetime. Excellent multi use tool.
