  1. I received this as gift and after using it to attach trim & baseboard, I can't believe it did so well for a cordless nailer. I'm a homeowner, not a contractor so I don't need a huge setup with a compressor etc. This is a great tool because it has lock protection against accidents. You can change nail sizes in less than a minute and work in tight places that make hammering difficult. The only drawback is the availablity of nails - not easily found in the usual places like Home Depot or Lowes.

  2. I'm pretty handy around the house and wanted to do some wainscot, chair-rails, and crown molding and needed a decent nailer. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and did NOT want to invest in a compressor. I'd never use a compressor except for my few projects and didn't want to have to store it.

That's where this nailer came in. I already own a B&D cordless drill, so the batteries were interchangeable for me, which was a bonus. The nailer worked perfectly for my wainscot. It's pretty lightweight and I didn't have a cumbersome air hose trailing me around. When you're in tight spots like a power room, that really helps.

I haven't had any jams or any other issues so far. At $124.99, I think it's a real steal. Highly recommend.

  3. I bought this strictly for quick household DIY projects and the only time I have a problem with jamming is when I use a battery that is not fresh. Since the product comes with two - this isn't really a problem for me.

  4. I didn't have a chance to work with this gun a lot, but after just few hours I can say it really works. On the beginning it was little tricky to realized how it works (what gives the power to hit each neil). Anyway at least until now I can't complain at all.
Just make sure batteries are fully charged and when you want shot hold trigger until you see nail is out. You can even hear specific BOOM - like I said, that's little tricky part for first few shots.

  5. The bad:

I've owned both the BDBN1202 and the new 18V Lowes FS1802BN. They are almost identical except for the voltage. I had 3 12V models, they all failed under 500 nails. I returned them under the 90day store policy. The new FS1802BN failed after about 1800 nails, fortunately it is still under the 2 year warrnaty, so off to the BD service center. This was after putting up a whole house of crown. Mode of failure: the impact slide will not retract after it shoots a nail. Unit will work if you open the hatch, remove the nails and manually push down on the slide. This slide will also retract if the tools is turned upside down, I assume a retracting spring broke. Others failed with similar mechanical issues. On the BD parts website, the entire nailing assembly mechanism is a single $100 unit, so if you need to repair out of warranty this unit is for all intents and purposes disposable.

Other issues, I have to nailset most of my 2" nails. Not a big deal to me, but it is an extra step.

I never got more than 300 nails with one charge, this is with the 18V model. The 12Vs were around 150 or so.

Guide may leave slight marks on the wood if nails are shot at certain angles, not really a big deal for paint grade moulding.

    The good:

2 year warranty (for the 18V unit) that you will most probably use. Drives 2" nails without a compressor. Great for crown and other moulding.
Tool is reasonably balanced and has some safety features. Be sure to wear safety glasses. I've had nails miss the moulding and hit my glasses. Also, keep fingers at least 8inches away from nailing surfaces. I've seen nails make U turns and come straight out of the surface. This is common sense for any nailer and not specific to this product.

    Summary:

For lightweight, occasional home use where you need to shoot a few nails or put up a chair rail, crown in a few rooms it is probably a good choice. If you are going to shoot over a thousand nails, think of this review. There is no where in the instructions telling you that it is light duty and for sporadic use. I would not use this if I was a pro. I believe it is a cheap, made in China, disposable tool. It is truly a shame how name brand quality truly takes a back seat, and the tool isn't $10 either. This tool would otherwise have great potential.

Buy with a credit card that extends your warranty because these things will eventually need it.

  1. This gun is awesome. It's fast, lightweight, and the bump mode let's you move right along without having to wait. The gun also responds well to the pressure regulator, no need for a depth gauge here. If you're concerned more about safety and want sequential fire this has that option w/turn of a ring. If I need another nail gun, this will be it.

  2. I asked my contractor friend what framing nailer I should get. This was the one he mentioned. It is a powerful versatile tool. I have used it for deck work and wall framing. I like the adjustable safety options. For a framing novice it let me set it on full safety. At the same time it leaves options open as my skills advance.

  1. WE HAVE 25 NAIL GUNS, ALL ARE PASLODE. I THINK THAT COVERS EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED TO KNOW.

  2. .

My husband uses this item and said the following about it:

"This is truly the very best cordless nail gun on the market today. It's perfect for either the professional carpenter or for the weekend DIY woodworking enthusiast. It weighs under 5 pounds when fully loaded with the battery, fuel cell, and the nails. It is easy to operate and it is rare that it jams, and if it does, it clears easily. I highly recommend this item and now that I've found the Paslode line, I know I'll be picking up a few more to add to my arsenal."

  3. I like everything about this product, it's the second one of these nail guns I've owned. My only complaint is that the depht guage adjustment wheel is a bit stiff to operate.

  4. This is an excellent product which has already made my life easier (putting up siding); it makes project assembly far faster, more accurate and most importantly more fun. The technology is significant and futuristic in that such a small fuel container can fire so many nails with such force. One should be aware that the device is loud and emits exhaust from the spent fuel with every shot - which is to be expected and has to be taken into consideration with indoor use (need good ventilation). But its performance outweighs all this in my view, along with amazing portability even compared with the CO2 driven devices.

  5. This nailer is easy to maintain and operate.
It saves so much time working on projects that would be near impossible to do with a hammer. I've used this to install complex wall and ceiling trim, wainscoting and just general use. Excellent product.

5 comments about Hitachi NR90GR Round Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Cordless Gas Framing Nailer.
  1. I don't know what people's problems are but I'm fully satisfied with the purchase. I was on the fence which gun I should buy (I had had some experience with the Paslode framer and finisher), and I took a risk and bought the Hitachi. Then a friend of mine lent me the Paslode, and I compared both on identical pieces of wood and identical method of nailing (face, toe-nail). There is no difference at all! Both drive nails at the same depth. Probably, people don't use appropriate nails for the Hitachi, and they have problems with misfiring and the depth of driven nails. Make sure you use plastic collated for NR90GR or paper collated for the clipped head type as it is indicated in the manual (I used hitachi nails 3-1/4" long). It works perfect on Paslode fuel cell, so there is no need to look for Hitachi cells. The Hitachi has a few advantages over the Paslode.
1)The battery charges up much quicker and the mounting system seems to work better (I worked with the Paslode finish gun and there was perpetual problem with battery connection).
2)The ergonomics is uncomparable to the Paslode. The Hitachi seems to be made to your hand.
Looking at all these characteristics I don't see the need to buy a more expensive tool when a $100 cheaper one makes the same job and actually is better.

  2. This is a gun that is not as easy to use as an air driven one and does take some getting used to, I think that is where people have problems. Good balance and power and does not take the expensive, more limited Paslode round modified nails and will take up to a 3 1/2", 3 1/4" is not code in some areas and that is as long as the Paslode IMCT will shoot. I like not having to but anothe set od nailer for this gun as the Std. Senco style .
The fuel rod has to be in place correctly or the gun will not work correctly, sometimes you have to reinsert it if it does not seat the first time before closing the cover. There is a lock out on the nail strip to prevent dry fire so you need at least a 10 nail strip to start. You can not bump fire like so many like to do, wildly place nails all over, it is a sequential fire so you must place the nose on contact then let the fan start and fire, rated 2-3 nail/sec.. It takes some experience to learn how to use it. Go for an air driven nailer if you want to shoot it like a machine gun and have nails thru sheathing into air space like is the case in so many homes. I know bump fire can be done correctly but more often than not I see careless building results.
I have a Paslode finish nailer and it works fine, has its issues too, especially in having to be kept clean and use specific products for maintience as this gun has too.
The rubber grip on this tool and the balance is very good, hold the Paslode too you will see how much better this is. This is Made in Japan and not a cheaply made tool as so many tools are today. The fuel rod is from Germany, and does not have an expiration date like the Paslode fuel which will work too[Red rod]. They did have problems with the early Hitachi fuel but that is corrected now.
I do not like the depth adjuster and jam removal screws because you need a 5mm allen key that is supplied but does not have any onboard storage [it does have a spot in the nice case]. The depth adjuster should be tooless, I really dislike those 2 issues . There is also no rubber protector boot for siding or decking but again the Pasload boot will fit if you buy it. For the price it is a great tool IF you follow instructions and do not have expectations that it will act like an air framing nailer. I hope Hitachi will decide to make some finish nailers too.

  3. This is my first nail gun ever.
I am not a "wood lover" (for building structure), and buildings I make are out of concrete, brick+mortar and steel. I am not a carpenter and I can not stand working with 2x4 what is actually 1.5x3.5" - but not precisely (it is sometimes 1 7/16" x 3 7/16" what makes me crazy). I have a machine shop and make high tech products, so miss-tolerances, I just simply cant tolerate.
Said all this, I was afraid what I am going to get from this gun, how I am going to perform with it, and is the idea of having a nail gun (opposite to regular hammer) really worth all the hassle, learning curve and other troubles on the way. Not to mention, hose-less, and some really negative comments about this product and the whole portable idea.
Not only that this gun is precise tool, but anybody can operate it. Perfectly balanced in your hand, no kick back (even with 16d nails) fast operation. Somebody who commented that this gun as a hard to press/engage is either really weak (my wife used it with no problem) or have malicious intentions towards Hitachi. Safety pressure is just enough to warn you and ask you for correct position.
For some people is not enough of nails in the gun (1.5 line max) but that is not an issue for me. Changing/feeding new ones is a snap.
As I said, it is really precise tool, didn't stop working not a single time, fired every nail perfectly where I wanted.
We framed a roof (what I never did before) in a snap. Big hook (collapsible) is square shaped - to fit over 2x4, is perfect helper to rest the gun on the truss. Not having the hose to pull you down on the top of OSB on the roof, HUGE advantage.
I have to say that the carrying case is perfectly organized, for 2 fuel cells, battery+ charger and some 7-8 rows of nails to carry around. Sturdy plastic case is worth the money alone!
My friend, who is wood worker for a living and told me about portable nail guns, helped us with the sheeting. He never had hose-less one before, million of "normal" ones, and was just impressed with this Hitachi.
He is getting one from me as a present, for the help, but even more for the favor he told me about them.
As always, Amazon had the best possible price, no shipping charge, and it came in the snap.

  4. I've been a framing contractor in Ca for over 18 years and I have never been dissappointed with Hitachi. It's notorious for great, dependable products. Not so with the NR90GR nailer. Terrible! The gun had been a bust right out of the box. It didn't even get through one strip of nails. It just won't shoot. If you have the skills and the timing of a jungle cat that's been trained by a ninja, you might get it to fire! I thought this was going to be a sweet little tool that could save me a lot of time on the job. I was wrong and as a consequence very dissappointed. I've replaced the gas rod multiple times, I've charged the battery, I've taken it to a tool repair twice, and it still doesn't work. I'm sticking to the hoses until Hitachi comes out with a new and improved model.

  5. This gun gave me a lot of headaches...it would fire a few nails, then nothing. I would take out the gas canister, press it manually a few times, then reinsert it. The gun would shoot well for a while, then nothing again. I found that the problem was with the Hitachi brand gas. For some reason the gas metering valve would stick or clog, and not supply enough gas for each shot. The solution? Red canister Paslode gas. I so far have gone thorough 3 of them with no hiccups from full to empty canister. This thing is a great tool, no regrets as long as I use Paslode gas.

  1. i have used one of these for a few years and it has been a real time saver. beats seting up a compressor even on midsize jobs.
    pros.
-power to sink nails in to hardwood. (i work with alot of oak)
-lots of shots to battery and gas
-belt clip is handy (clips on most step ladder stays)
    Cons.
    -loud
    -not angled
    -very tempermental
-must be cleaned atleast once daily maybe more if you are shoting alot.
-gas is not cheap AND HAS A SHELF LIFE. if you cant use a box in less then a year or it had been sitting on the shelf at the store for awhile it will go bad cusing misfires. CHECK THE DATE ON THE PACKAGE(or canister)
-aside from gas and nails you need to buy paslode brand cleaner spray and oil

  2. I'll get right to the pros and cons.

    Pros-
Obviously, convenience- sometimes you don't need to lug in a whole compressor setup for just handyman type work.
    Good Case.

    Cons & Problems-

This thing misfires just like the other Paslode Cordless guns, but not as bad as the framing gun.
Gas intake valves have been faulty twice (My company owns three of these suckers) - a 50 Dollar repair.
The driving pin gets constantly stuck, even with constant care and lubrication.
The tip mecanism broke off completely on one gun.
During heavy construction usage, battery charger A/C unit is easily compromised. (The power conection is weak)

In general, it's good to have around in a pinch, but don't count on it to do any serious work, you'll end up costing yourself more time, money, and frustration.

Note: The newest model of 18 gauge has seemed more solid and reliable, I've only used it a handful of times, but time will tell.

  3. WE HAVE 25 NAIL GUNS, ALL ARE PASLODE. I THINK THAT COVERS EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED TO KNOW.

  4. Be advised that Paslode's MSRP for this product is lowered to $ 259.00 so don't pay above that. You can get it with free shipping for $ 249.00 if you look around- Nail barn and elsewhere.

Awesome product, free of cords, hoses and heavy ancillary equipment. If you are not a pro, the only drawback is the shelf life of the fuel cell. This is offset in part by the fact that the same fuel cell works in the 16 gauge finish nailers. If you are not a pro though, is it worth paying so much more than pneumatic? Decisions decisions.

  5. Bought this product to make my job easier as a trim carpenter but was not what i expected. Maybe I expected too much but I am the only person that uses my tools and trim work is all I do so I know it was not abused. It worked fine for a while then it became high dollar junk. I finally sold it at a garage sale for 100 dollars and was glad to get rid of it. I bought 2 dewalt 18 volt finish nailers and have shot many boxes of nails with no problems. I feel that paslode let me down

  1. There is no substitute for the angled pasload BUT it must be kept CLEAN
in order for it to not have problems like any other tool it must be kept clean I cant stress that enough. Avoid putting it on the ground. hang on a latter put it on a table Who wants to constantly bend over anyway????
    Mike Carpenters Local 8

  2. Bought the Paslode Framing and had such success on the job with it, i considered the finish nailer. Thinking that the finish nailer would be great so taht you are not dragging dirty houses through a home, i read the reviews on amazon and was amazed at the number of poor reviews. However, i went for it and just like the framer, this gun has performed flawlessly. Make good contact with the workpiece and it is as simple as that. Highly recommended!

  3. All the same problems everyone else has had, except after my Paslode refurbishment it began shooting nails out of the bottom of the nail holder (about an inch from the tip of the gun). This is not good at all. I had high hopes for this tool and I really wanted it to work.

  4. Works very well, even in hard woods. I trimmed a whole house and didn't have one issue with it. Great product!

  5. I have tried to get cutomer service to assit me for over one year. The company wants to sell the product, however, if you have a problem with your item the company has zero support after the sale. I will never buy or recommend to any one, any product that Paslode sells. If you spend hundreds of dollars and you get a defective item, no help is available after the sale. The techs that have looked at my nail gun can't figure out why it works for 5 minutes ,then the next time you go to use the gun it will not work. So, before you lose alot of Dollars, buy another product that will have customer support after the sale.

  1. Great product good packaging. Run's fine.
No complaints except I (and my wrist) wish I bought one years ago.

  2. After reviewing my options for reinforcing floor joists under the house I decided on the Bostitch palm nailer.
I was looking for something powerful enough to drive framing nails, but small enough to easily work with while laying on my back in a cramped crawlspace. I didn't want a specialized framing nailer because, seriously, how often will I need a framing nailer?!?
I decided on the Bostitch, and I couldn't be happier. This tool makes every job fun.

It drives bulk nails instantly into anything. Engineered lumber, old growth hardwood, your best friend's femur, anything! The downside is that it uses only one nail at a time. The upside is that it drives everything from 5D to 70D.

As for the floor joists, the tool worked flawlessly and it's small size and 3 lb. weight were a dream to use in the cramped and awkward crawlspace.
In places a hammer won't fit or for joist hangers, this is worth it's weight in gold.

I've owned it for months and have rarely used a hammer since. This should be your first pnumatic nailer.

Not for finish carpentry or trim!!! Buy a pinner or 18 ga. nailer for that. This will mar the surface of fine woodwork.

  3. I didn't know what to expect at first.
Bent a few nails but after a little practice, drove many straight nails in hard old oak 2x6s.

The manual is next to useless but I think I can follow the diagram to change the heads. I have used the standard head for all my work but sometime I will need to change to the smaller size.

A great tool but the sorry manual keeps it a 4 star.

  4. Great product, I had the nailer 2 days after I ordered it. I wish I had bought the palm nailer years ago.

  5. it's work great, once you get use to the product, you will love it, save time and energy

  1. i bought it used for $75
it was misfiring all the time
so the guy hated it said take it cheap $75 with nails ($39) worth
    i bought new fuel cells
    not 1 missfire since
    this thing is great
check the date on the fuel

  2. I bought this for my husband for christmas, He absolutely loves the paslode and it makes things so much easier and faster. Amazon has great prices and great products.I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

  3. Rented one from a chain super center (the orange one), and have no regrets. In fact, if I had needed it beyond the one job, I probably would've returned it right away and just bought one. It worked reliably for the day. Battery life was good (not sure if it was fully charged, made it through a few hundred nails over about 8 hours from the time we started working to the time we ended), and was still on the original fuel cell when we finished up.

If you already have an air compressor, you might as well buy a compressed-air nailer. But if you don't, or you're working in a spot where an air compressor would be either really inconvenient or impossible, it's not a bad deal.

The only issue I found was that sometimes, even pressed down all the way, the gun wouldn't fire, no matter how hard the gun was pressed into the wood. Backing off all pressure and pressing the gun all the way down again would generally do it.

  4. Not nearly as fast or powerful as a regular nailgun. It leaves nails sitting proud when firing into engineered wood or old old-growth framing, like we have so much of here in San Francisco. At certain angles (toe nailing)the Paslode is frustratingly hard to fire. Depending on the angle, I sometimes have to press with two hands, which is far from convenient. It sometimes will move the stud that I am trying to nail because I have to press so hard to actuate the thing.

I own this gun and the Paslode angled finish nailer. The finish nailer is one of the best tools ever invented, the framing nailer leaves a bit to be desired for commercial work.

On the upside, it seems to be very durable, and I'm happy with the performance of the batteries and the fuel cells. It just doesn't have the power, speed or finesse of a regular nailer. Portability is its main feature.

Who knows? Maybe the one that I own is bunk, because the majority of reviewers here-and there are a lot of them-seem to love it.

  5. So far this nailer has worked out great.
I'ver never used a framing nailer before, so I have nothing to compare it to. Im currently framing some new partition walls in my basement and I plan on adding some additonal decking outside.
The only thing feature that hasn't lived up to its specs is the amount of nails that it will drive on one fuel cell. It seems like it has only driven a little more than half the amount stated. However, I'm not disappointed because the fuel cells are inexpensive enough.
I highly recommend it to any noncontractor that has a relatively light use for a framiung nailer. The cost to buy it makes more sense than renting a nailer and a compressor for more than a few days. Especially if you may have a future use for it.

  1. I bought this nailer to build 250 ft of privacy fence. It worked flawlessly through 3000 wire coallated nails and I am glad I bought it. The ring shanked nails grip tightly to the point that the head will pull through the board before pulling out of the rail. I am looking forward to building another fence!

  2. This is my first nail gun. I am a weekend warrior and have used this to nail HardiPlank siding. It has worked flawlessly. The ergonomics are perfect. If the product could be improved, it would not allow firing once the last nail has been driven.

I used wire collated nails for my project and my only issue is that the wire tends to get driven with the nail causing a blemish in the plank or a piece of the wire actually get driven under the nail head which shows. I'm blind nailing, so this is not a big deal, however, I would probably try plastic collated next time.

  3. I was a little disappointed with the firing of this gun. Like another user commented... the gun should be able to strictly single fire and STOP after a nail has been fired. I used this gun for cedar tongue and groove siding installation with premium 2" stainless steel coil nails. About 5-10% of the time the gun would fire 2 nails even when I tried my hardest to allow for a single fire. In addition, for me too, some of the wire from the nail coil would be driven into the wood. Not the worst thing because ultimately when done right with tongue and groove the nail would be covered up by the overlapping siding. But still somewhat concerning when spending close to $300 on a gun.

On the bright side, the gun is light and handles well. It seems to be build very solid. Overall I have been using my DeWalt 15 gage cordless finish nailer for over a year and that gun is awesome. This Bostitch is the first air powered gun I have purchased and I was hoping for the same predictability. Unfortunately you sometimes can't predict what's going to happen when you pull the trigger and I wish this wasn't the case.

Ok...ok...ok... I had to come back and edit my review. The Bostich N66C comes with 2 triggers. One is exactly for my issues listed above. It's stricktly a single shot trigger and will not allow the gun to fire twice. It is for more precise firing when speed and coverage is not the issue. As a result my review has gone from 3 to 4 stars. It's definitely a quality product.

  4. Good product, has all the features of the other brands. Came with the peice to switch from trigger activated to impact activated. I've gone through a box of nails already, never had a mis-fire. Easy to use, durable, best price available.

  5. After putting up a couple of courses of sidewall shakes with a hammer, I went looking for a nail gun that would shoot shake size nails. They aren't easy to find. The N66C is a pretty sweet little gun. It's light, holds a fair amount of nails, doesn't jam, and has good depth control. It is pretty tough too (I've dropped it off the staging a couple of times). I feel like I made a good choice from a rather limited field. The only negative is that sometimes it leaves some of the collation wire sticking out at the nail head. These are unpleasant to hit with a knuckle
