  1. I own a 16 oz claw and a 20 oz rip Estwing. Both hammers are roughly 20 years old and still going strong. Estwing's leather grip is excellent and the one-piece construction helps minimize bounce and shock. The hammers have good heft AND balance in the hand and as a "lefty", I find that they swing well with little or no arm/hand fatigue at the end of the day. As a handyman, I'm NOT swinging a hammer all day long so for my needs and purposes, Estwings are great - dependable, balanced and sturdy.

  2. I have and have used a wide variety of hand tools. I can tell you that this product is made of the highest quality, and will give you a lifetime of good service with minimal maintenance. Highly recommended.

  3. It's an Estwing....what else is there to say?

My framing hammer is an Estwing....my general shop hammer is an Estwing....and now my furniture hammer is an Estwing.

These hammers don't break or EVER fail. You lose them or your friends "borrow" them and you have to get new ones.

There *is* no other hammer out there.

  4. My husband loved this gift - he says it's the most comfortable and durable hammer he's ever owned.

  5. We looked everywhere for this particular hammer for our future son-in-law and were able to finally find it through Amazon!! Thank goodness! Working with Amazaon was a delight this Christmas season!

  1. This is one helluva hammer holder. I has a large top opening that allows my hammer to enter easily. I have gone through many hammer holders in my years of construction. This one however has held up for the past year trough our great Candian winter and all. A product deserving of the DeWalt name.

  1. I've used this for years, for tear down, framing*, finish carpentry, just plain hitting things for fun... no matter what, it's the perfect all-around hammer. The hammer is also made in the USA, which is always something that makes me happy...

*For the past couple years, I have been using a framing hammer when doing a considerable amount of framing... but this thing is always within reach.

  1. Excellent quality. Felt good to use. can take the abuse

  2. A great rock hammer/pick for both the amateur and professional. Strong and easy to handle, will last for decades, leather handle, easy on the hand. Great gift for yourself or a friend....

  3. This is a very nice rock pick. It has a nice comfortable feel to it.

  4. Not only is this a great pick that is extremely well made in the"USA". Getting free shipping was a big bonus. The pick has good balance and the leather handel should last a long time. My only suggestion is to add a little yellow spray paint to the metal just above the handel to make finding it a little easier. When you are at a dig and pile up a lot of dirt, it can get lost because it blends into the dirt pile. Also they have a plastic belt clip holder for this that actually works a lot better than the leather ones. The leather has to be worked A LOT before it is supple onough to actually stretch enough to snap both snaps.
    Hope this helps!

  1. I'm always looking for the tool that will help me get it done easier, faster, better, this hammer is my current favorite! The Stanley does everything well, I can punch in trim nails, knock in 3-1/2 duplex with relative speed and ease(It doesn't beat a two foot framing hammer, but it's also not an anchor hanging off my belt fit only for framing either)bash masonry, and demo old walls. I find that it really helps absorb the impact well and one of the biggest advantages is the handle provides FANTASTIC traction and grip! After having hammers fly out of my weak, sweaty hands after marathon framing sessions, this is a tremendous boon. The magnetic starter works very well, but don't expect it to hold anything larger than a 10d. It's also nice to have a hammer that isn't almost a short-sword smashing your leg in with every belted step.
Having used this for a couple of months, i'm going to buy a waffle faced framing model.

  2. For the price it is great the antivibe handle seems to do the job and the hammer feels well constructed and strudy with alot of the weight in the head and very light in the handle and neck which is nice it really drives the nailes well. Workmenship and polishing could be better look a bit ruff around the edges like it just came out of the mold but it works fine.

  3. I love this hammer. I've used it every day for the last year on everything from rough framing to finish work. "The Better Mousetrap" review played a big role in my decision in the 20oz Stanley over the classic Estwing. It's true that you really feel a difference hitting concrete. It's also very well balanced. I can flip it and throw it with surprising accuracy. Not that it helps me build anything, but I feel very comfortable with it in my hand. I worked on a crew with some guys who carried wooden handled Stilettos. They're nice, I liked them, but I'd still choose my Stanley.

  4. This hammer does great for what it is supposed to do, pound in nails. The main reason I bought this hammer is it is shorter in length than my Estwing framing hammer, great for installing romex clamps and "conduit nails" between studs. I would have rated this product 5 stars except the rip claw does not work as well as my old Estwing, other than that the anti-vibe features work great.

  5. I purchased this for my 64 year old retired father. He was a contractor and is able to do just about EVERYTHING, so is very picky about his tools and toys and has about everything and mostly all top of the line.

He loved the fact that this is stainless steel, is solidly constructed, has a nice curved rip end to easily remove nails, has a nice grip on it, balance is great, and feels nice in his hand.

However, when he received it, he was disappointed that this was not made in the USA but Mexico instead, but at least it wasn't made in the East where most of the cheaper made stuff come from. Also, make sure to check the weight on this baby. It's 20oz, which is good to nail in a few nails, but if you're planning on a big project that requires hours, it might get a bit heavy.

The product was so well made and the price was great for what I paid for, that I didn't bother returning it, but instead just bought him the same item in the 16oz in addition.

Recommend, but check out the 16oz too!

  1. The Queen of Rock Hammers - slightly lighter than the 22 oz model. Perfect for women, children or hikers. Again, file the corners on the head to prevent splinters and burrs.

  2. I built a long dry laid stone wall this summer. This Estwing hammer performed well is among my favorite hammers for stone... Just don't hit your hand with the chisel end... That hurts :-)

  3. This is a heavy rock pick and the shipping cost shows it.

However it is the best rock pick there is, and I have used it many times to look into rocks, crevaces etc.

Yes, I suppose you can try and get a $5 hammer at your local hardware store to do the job, but I would rather have a heavy, nicely gripped, the "rolls royce" of rock picks, rock pick, than anything else.

    Peter

  1. i bought this so my elbow would not hurt as much when framing all day. after several uses, the face became abnormally worn and after 3 weeks the waffle face was almost completely mashed and not gripping nail heads like it used to. also after 2 uses the interior of the nail claw bent a bit, so now it doesn't grip nails at all when removing them. titanium is not all it's cracked up to be. my 15 year-old hart california framer still grips nails like the day i bought it. so why did i give this hammer 3 stars and not one? well, my elbow does feel better when framing all day. this hammer is light-weight at 14 oz, but still packs the punch of a 22 oz framing hammer. the shock when pounding with this hammer is reduced, making it easier on the elbow. i'm still slower because i can't use my hammer to pull nails and driving nails is a bit off. i like the magnetic nail slot too, although that's nothing new. my 10 year-old dogyu japanese framing hammer has this feature too. you still need 2 hammers. a waffle face for driving nails and beating things and a light-weight smooth face for use with cats paws, etc, that wont tear up these steel tools.

  2. I bought this to replace my husband's worn out one. Very pleased with purchase. My husband likes using a Stiletto because of the light weight and long handle.

  3. After many years of framing homes for Habitat for Humanity, my right shoulder started to give me chronic problems. I'd take a month off and then come back to have the same problem arise. I must admit that were several fellow volunteers who had Stiletto hammers and kidded them about their expense hammers. As a last resort I borrowed one of their Stiletto hammers and within two weeks my problem was resolved. So I bought one.

  4. This is a great product. Really saves the wrist and elbow. I highly recommend it.

  5. I have been a carpenter for 10 years and I wish I bought this hammer a long time ago. Although it is light weight, the hatchet like handle delivers more power than a 22 oz. framing hammer, plus it's easier on your swinging arm. Great product!

  1. Very nice and works well according to the person i purchased it for.

  2. Nice little hammer, the head has a magnet to hold a nail while it's being started. Great for smaller hands! Good information about self breast exam came with it.

  3. I was afraid it would be more girly than useful but I was dead wrong. This is a serious hammer that any construction worker would be proud to use. The weight is perfect. The magnetized framing nail holder saves thumbs wonderfully! And, its cute.:) Highly recommended to any female out there who wants a touch of femme on her tool belt.

  4. I got a few of these to give as gifts to my friends and relatives that have beat their battle with breast cancer. I couldn't believe it that 70% goes to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure!! To see them get a gift that they can use in their homes, and read "Hammer out Breast Cancer" to remind them of what they accomplished, is a big deal to me. Kudos to Tomboy Tools for getting involved in a spectacular way!

  1. In a way I feel weird reviewing a hammer, afterall it is a hammer! However, I thought I would put my 2 cents in, in case someone was looking to buy this.

I like the hammer, I have two claw hammers. This one and a wood hammer. This one seems a little top heavy to me. This may be do to a lighter fiberglass shaft, but I can easily compensate for it. The grip is comfortable and makes hammering without any workgloves effortless.

I have had this hammer about 5 years and I must say I am not disappointed in it at all. Would buy it again.

  1. How well I remember it...the insult..the challenge and the glove across the face...we each embedded the pick end of our Estwing in a handy log, backed up a pace, and stood, sneering and staring each other down until someone in the surrounding crowd yelled "GO!"...

Seriously, if you have a professional or hobby need to pry apart and break rocks, the 22 oz. Estwing is it. And, it can be a handy camp tool - besides the obvious use as a hammer, the pick can be used to reduce downed, cracked tree parts to firewood by prying in the cracks.

  2. Just what I ordered, delivered in very good time with good communication from seller. Very reasonable price too.

  3. My entire family fossil hunts. This is the best all around rock pick we have used. We bought four if that tells you anything.

  4. The best rock hammer there is. It was recommended to me by my geology professor, and I would recommend it to everybody.

  5. I use this to sample rocks in old mines and when i am gold prospecting. I own the 16oz also. I would not use any other brand of rock hammer.
