  1. This is a very handy cordless drill and it gets into tight spots. You can also use it for a screwdriver.

  2. Great product. Whoever came up with the concept of the adjustable head with a pretty powerfuldrill got it right. Criticisim:Probably a more versatile carrying case to hold B&D quick connect drill & accessory kit.

  3. I've owned this Black and Decker drill/driver model for around 7 or 8 years. It's been a lifesaver to say the least. I also own a 'real' corded drill that I use for jobs that require serious torque, but in the 8 years I've owned that, I've only used it three or four times.

This Black and Decker cordless drill/driver on the other hand is by far my favorite tool that I own. I've done everything from installing blinds to assembling a wooden swingset with this drill (the battery did not last through the entire swingset, but it did last for several hours). One reviewer commented he could not find a replacement battery, but honestly, in 8 years I haven't needed one. I whole heartedly recommend this tool as an all purpose household drill/driver. Have realistic expectations - If you plan do more than just household maintenance and repair tasks or small projects, you will need to invest in another drill.

    Pros:
    1. The 5 position head - a nice feature that comes in handy once in a while.
    2. "Quick Connect Bit Change System" - it's so easy to drill a pilot hole, switch to a screwdriver bit, and finish the job in a matter of seconds.
    3. Accessories - it comes with an assortment of drill and driver bits, but other hex sets work interchangeably with this driver.
    4. The Battery - charges quickly, holds a charge for a long time, and lasts through several jobs, even with long periods of non-use.
    5. Lefty approved! - drills usually aren't an issue left handed users, but just in case you were wondering, this tool is ergonimically ambidextrous and therefore does not discrimate against us :)

Cons: After just 8 years, the drill is finally starting to show some wear.

  4. I adore my little power drill! I just moved into my new apartment and it's been perfect for setting up furniture. It's so versatile, I really like that you can position the head in different ways, it makes drilling in tight spaces much easier.

The design is so comprehensive, there are lots of different power settings, it has the right trigger sensitivity for good control, and there are way too many screw icons for me to use.

I've been using it all day, setting up various pieces of furniture (bed frame, desk, boards, etc.) and it hasn't shown signs of dying at all. It deserves 5 stars for what I'm using it for!

  5. This Drill/Driver is great for any projects. Its easy to use. Its a little bulky though. Other then that it's ok. I would recommand it. Price is not too expensive. I bought mind at a great discount.

5 comments about DeWalt DW919 18-Volt Flexible Floodlight, No Battery.
  1. The floodlight arrived in good condition, but the extra bulb that it is supposed to come with was missing and the packaging looked like it had already been opened. The price of the missing bulb wasn't worth the hassle of returning but this makes me suspicious of Amazons suppliers and/or practices.

  2. I always thought this thing was kind of a joke. While it is combo filler, it is also very usefull, the flex is rigid and stays where you point it. At least sofar being only 2 weeks old. Bright enough to see, this is not a surefire. I even hung it from some pipes and it worked. I grab this light for more jobs that I ever thought I would.

An multi LED version or better yet a combo LED/incandescent would be a good redesign for the nano version. I dont like the feel of 100% LED lamps.

Anyways, very good lamp but didn't come with extra bulb, hence four stars.

  3. Bought this to go with my Dewalt drill. I really like it because with the battery its heavy enough to keep it in place i can use flexible neck to direct light right where i want it .its like having third hand to hold light.

  4. I used one of these at work and liked it so much I bought one for home. Then I bought another one for work. It's "snake" handle is very flexible, giving it the ability to wrap around or hang from almost anything in order to direct the beam. It casts a very bright, focused beam of light which can also cast very dark shadows.

DeWalt also makes a fluorescent light that is much better when you need a flood light. I use them both depending on the type of light I need (spot or flood).

A fully charged 18 volt battery will shine for about 4-6 hours making it difficult to get through the day with out two batteries. If you don't already have tools that use these batteries and its charger, the cost of them would probably make this light prohibitively expensive.

The price on these go up and down, I've seen them for less that $10 (which is when I pick them up) but they can also be much higher.

One warning... The light bulbs (it comes with one spare) are very difficult to find and expensive ($9 per pair). If you can't find them locally, you could spend as much to replace the whole light as it costs to replace the light bulbs.

  5. I bought this last summer with the porta vacuum and used it around the house a bit and though it was OK -- then I realized that it is the holy grail for grilling at night when you don't want to turn on flood lights and attract the bugs. Uses the same battery as the vac. One of my best buys....

5 comments about Dremel 3956-02 MultiPro Super 1.15 Amp 15,000 to 35,000 RPM Variable Speed Rotary Tool with 77 Accessories.
  1. I got this kit as a replacement of a very old dremel rotary tool. I got a nice package that help me do almost anything I need to do at home, but hammering. Nice packed and pretty good selection of accesories included.

  2. As a visual artist working in paper mache i have found this tool to be invaluable in my work. detail work or rough hack and slash, whether or not i am sculpting or fixing a piece there is a head suited for my purpose. I keep the precision i had with hand tools and gain speed.
as far as carving gourds, except for rare occasions, i will never carve manually again. the dremel makes my work accident free, precise and speedy!

  3. I recently purchased a new dremel series 400. My old black style dremel lasted for 7 years of abuse and finally wore out . During 2 minutes of light duty with the new 400 series dremel it started to smoke and get extremley hot! FIRE HAZARD?! Needless to say it diddnt work anymore. Thinking this a fluke I went to another hardware store and purchased a 300 series adjustable speed dremel. Guess what? SAME THING!!!!! I would highly not reccomend dremel tools because they obviously have gone to cheap components with this new generation. PASS IT ON!

  4. This tool have a nice range of applications, most of which I haven't had a chance to try yet. Available accessories (sold separately) include router bits, router table, and plunge attachment. I currently use my MultiPro for routing, and I look forward to trying engraving in the future, as well as other features.

Most of the accessories that come with the kit are for grinding and sanding. I would like to see a wider range of bits come with the MultiPro, because to the consumer making the initial purchase and reading the product description, it appears there would be more. That is my only complaint so far.

Although I know this is a very specific market niche, I would like to see a Dremel-sized jig for creating dovetail and box joints. I make wood boxes and found that available ready-made jigs are intended for the standard full-size routers. So I have learned to get by making the boxes without box joints...but box joints would give a more polished look.

  5. My husband was very pleased with this dremel and all of its accessories... He has recommeded it to a couple of his buddys already.

5 comments about Dremel MultiPro Cordless 7700-02 20,000 RPM Two-Speed 7.2V Rotary Tool System w/50 Accessories.
  1. The form, fit and function of the hand-held tool is poor, but the tool set attachments are great. Even the little bag is a nice touch.

After many decades, I bought my first Dremel hand-held tool. However, if the battery was turned 180 degrees and the French curves on shallower side were made into a flat surface, parallel to the rotating axis, then it would be extremely useful for cutting balsa wood to make models. It would also be able to sand all surfaces with precision. I don't believe there is one Dremel table that would have this stand-alone-flat-surface capability to handle any work size.

I would guess that Dremel Marketing dictates to Dremel Engineering, just like marketing at Microsoft must dictate tons of application bells and whistles, whose bugs are rarely fixed (even after 17 years of re-packaging MS Office applications)...marketing seems to drive almost all companies.

I registered my Dremel product and signed up for the forum. But I don't think Dremel wants to hear from folks with any suggestions. Of the 30-40 permissions, I only had the right to read, not to make replies. I guess the Dremel legal department reins in users with muzzles...no wonder there are very few postings.

If you do register with Dremel, DO NOT check any boxes pertaining to your interests. If you do, you can count on a deludge of third-party emails, selling everything from travel deals to fake online degrees. It appears that Dremel sells your name to profit from you, while you are not permitted into the domain of a one-sided forum. I've spent way too much of my time unsubscribing and adding to this review (which you will not see as the most current review on Amazon).

If "money is no object," then buy all the Dremel tools (shaper/router table, scroll saw, drilling station, etc.) that you need to do the job right (hand-held tools with French curves are how Marketing promotes sales of all other Dremel tools). Just don't expect the tool to be innovative in form or fit (I am impressed with 20k rpm, but speed falls off quickly as battery drains), and don't expect the battery to last more than 0.5 hours cutting very soft Balsa wood.

Technical functionality is the very best of form, fit, and function. Aesthetic functionality is usually the application of misguided technical functionality dollars. We consumers will always buy what we need, regardless of bad press, but more product support, allowing us to provide critical feedback, would be a good thing for everyone...not using "buy what we need" as a marketing lever to sell us inferior products.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Health Hazards (OSHA)abrasive saw blades and disks:

(Author, not OSHA, note: You should wear a protective mask when using Dremel abrasive disks or any abrasive saw blade. This may not mean that all abrasive disks are coated with Cobalt, but I don't know what substance, other than carborundum, could be coated on such blades. Even though you should wear a filter mask, it may not absorb Cobalt fumes).

OSHA: "Health Hazards. Cobalt Dust Stellite tipped saw blades generate a fine dust containing cobalt when sharpened. Cobalt is a silvery, bluish-white, odorless, and magnetic metal (author, not OSHA, note: test yours abrasive disk...magnetic steel disks will be misleading...with a strong magnet). The fume and dust of cobalt metal is odorless and black. Without proper ventilation, cobalt overexposures are possible. Cobalt also is combustible and burns brilliantly (Author, not OSHA, note: Dremel disks do not burn when exposed to flame)in air at room temperature. Dusts of cobalt metal or cobalt compounds may form explosive mixtures in air.

Inhalation of cobalt metal fume and dust may cause interstitial fibrosis, interstitial pneumonitis, myocardial and thyroid disorders, and sensitization of the respiratory tract and skin. Chronic cobalt poisoning may also produce polycythemia and hyperplasia of the bone marrow. Among 12 workers engaged in the manufacture or grinding of tungsten carbide tools (cobalt is used as a binder for tungsten carbide crystals), who developed interstitial lung disease, there were eight fatalities.

The current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible exposure limit (PEL) for cobalt metal, dust, and fume (as Co) is 0.1 milligram per cubic meter (mg/m(3)) of air as an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) concentration [29 CFR 1910.1000, Table Z-1].

    Signs and symptoms of exposure:

Acute exposure: Acute exposure to cobalt metal, dust, and fume is characterized by irritation of the eyes and, to a lesser extent, irritation of the skin. In sensitized individuals, exposure causes an asthma-like attack, with wheezing, bronchospasm, and dyspnea Ingestion of cobalt may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a sensation of hotness.

Chronic exposure: Chronic exposure to cobalt metal, dust, or fume may cause respiratory or dermatologic signs and symptoms. Following skin sensitization, contact with cobalt causes eruptions of dermatitis in creases and on frictional surfaces of the arms, legs, and neck. Following sensitization of the respiratory system, cobalt exposure causes an obstructive lung disease with wheezing, cough, and shortness of breath. Chronic respiratory exposure results in reduced lung function, increased fibrotic changes on chest X-ray, production of scanty mucoid sputum, and shortness of breath. Chronic cobalt poisoning may cause polycythemia, hyperplasia of the bone marrow and thyroid gland, pericardial effusion, and damage to the alpha cells of the pancreas.

Methods that are effective in controlling worker exposures to cobalt metal, dust, and fume, depending on the feasibility of implementation, are as follows:
    * Process enclosure,
    * Local exhaust ventilation,
    * General dilution ventilation, and
    * Personal protective equipment."

Author, not OSHA, note: In terms of other brands of saw blades, you should not use abrasive blades...use something else (An Evolution Rage 2 Chop Saw is fantastic and patented technology...this is where I found out about the dangers of abrasive disks) . Abrasive blades can also explode in your face when over-heated.

  2. This is a great tool for anyone needing to drill, polish, cut, grind, etch, sand, screw, etc.... but not for big projects. If you have larger projects, consider purchasing a more powerful, corded Dremel. But for crafts and basic home repair, this product works great.
The battery pack is easy to get on and off, and holds a charge well. (a back up battery is a good idea with ANY product!)
The only thing I can really say I'd improve on, would be the on/off switch. I don't like that it goes High/Off/Low rather than Off/Low/High, for safety reasons. I have, on more than one occassion (while trying to switch tips) switched the unit on. There is no well defined seperation between the Lo/Off/Hi.
Otherwise, I am quite happy with it and the accessories it came with.

  3. This is a good purchase and a great tool to work on my model train hobby.

  4. Very easy to handle and you have the control to manuever the machine around tight places.

  5. This unit is very handy for the average homeowner. It comes with a starter supply of cutoff wheels, polishing wheels, sandpaper, etc. The battery is just average. I wish it would last longer before having to be recharged. I also wish this unit had the ability to be plugged in rather than to be solely operated by a battery. The bag gives you the ability to keep your Dremel and all the accessories in one place. I don't see how people get by without owning a Dremel. All in all, a great little tool!

  1. The drill has a lot of power and works really well in tight spaces. The handle get a little hot when working for a long time, but other than that it works great.

  2. I'm a contractor, so I use my tools all the time and rely on them. Most of my hand tools are Bosch, but they don't have a full size right angle cordless drill, so I purchased the Dewalt. The Dewalt is inferior to Bosch in so many ways. First, the reverse switch is too small and hidden. It's difficult to switch when you're under a cabinet or in a tight space and try with just one hand. Secondly, the chuck is difficult to tighten and again requires two hands. Try a Bosch chuck, and you'll instantly know why the Dewalt chuck is worthless. Third, if it falls, the battery typicall falls out. Hey, no one wants to drop their tools, but it happens. When it does, I just want to pick it up, not reassemble it. So, in a nut shell, I haven't been impressed and only use this when it's absolutely necessary for the space. I'll be selling it soon as I'm getting the new Bosch Lithium drivers. They work great for the occasional tight space with none of the draw backs listed above.

  3. Why is it that everyone that buys a defective tool must write a negitive review? Just pack it up and send it back! You have no more idea what kind of drill you have than a person that has never purchased one.

As far as durability, any tool can be damaged by dropping it. Don't blame the tool.
This tool is very ergonomic. My hands are small and it works great for me.

The low center of gravity makes it very steady while sitting on the battery base; much more so than a regular drill which is nose heavy.
Unlike a convential drill, the trigger is over three inches long, and very easy to activate with any part of you hand.

By grasping the drill just above the base and placing the heel of your hand on the back of the head, you can apply pressure to insure fast and firm application of any bit or driver you choose to use.

The other thing I like about this tool is that it is easy to carry on a belt and fits into ANY tool bag or box that I want to use. The convential drill never sits well in my tool bag and it is hard to find a carrier that feels good to me.
I wrapped a velcro strap around the base of the drill and attached a carabiner to the strap and I can hook it to a belt, a belt loop, or even a button hole of my old bid overalls.
The fact that it is easy to use in tight places is only one of the many reasons that I love this tool.
If you think that it is too expensive, rent one first and see for yourself how great it is to operate.
After a month of using my angle drill, I put my regular drill on the shelf.

  4. This drill was purchased to help in tight areas of cabinet constuction and repair. It has been used numerous times and has proven to be a worthwhile tool. It is easy to use, and reached all but the hardest to reach places. It has ample power and I would reccomend it to anyone who is considering adding a right angle drill to their inventory.

  5. This tool never even made it onto the jobsite. Just testing in the workshop proved too much! The chuck spun out of round, and the motor was taxed and stripped trying to run a 3/4 auger. Even a large Irwin speedbore proved too much. I am O.K with a drill not being able to spin a bit-I will back off and try a smaller size. But this tool just seems to strip the gears way too easily. I tried 2 of these, figuring I might have gotten a lemon, but 2 lemons? The gears sound like they are cheaper quality. I think next time I will look at the small Makita corded or perhaps the Hitachi corded or cordless.

  1. $200 for two Makita drills, case, two batteries, and a charger? you cant beat that deal with a stick. The impact works very well and drives screws like a champ. And the driver/drill does a great job as well. The drills are light as well. Lastly, the charger does a fine job and puts a quick charge on the batteries.

  2. I've had these for about a month and have used them for household stuff. This is the first tool that I've bought with a lithium ion battery. I'm not real wild about reading it loses its capacity every year by about 20%. Other than that, the drill is nice and works well. The impact is a bit overpowered for delicate work. You're better off to use the drill and turn down the speed when driving screws into delicate stuff like woodwork.

  3. The drill that is included in this kit is the model #BDF452HW, and not the model #BHP452HW that is listed in the product description.

  4. I have only owned this drill for about a month but I love it. I bought it along with the impact driver complete with a charger, two batteries, and a carrying bag. The bag is pointless and I have not had a chance to use the impact yet but the drill is great. Amazon's pricing was better than Home Depot's.

I am a serious home repair guy and have owned several cordless drills for over 15 years now. I have always thought that you could tell a lot about a man by the cordless drill that he owns. This drill is so ergonomically friendly and with 18 volts of power, it is far and away the nicest drill I have ever owned...or used. I still have a compliment of 14.4 volt Dewalt cordless tools that I like but I lost my drill. I replaced it with this Makita after reading several reviews. The Dewalt is heavy and difficlut to use compared to this tool. I like the LED light by the trigger even though at first I thought this was just a gimmick. The shorter battery charge life is not a problem since they take a recharge quickly and you get two batteries in the combo pack. The weight difference between this and other heavier drills is very noticable. I wish it had a clip to hold a few tips but that is a small concern compared to the heft and feel of this drill.

    You should buy this drill.

  5. I install cabinets for a living, and this set has worked out great. My partner had been using these for a few months now, and talked me into buying these. The only thing I wish they had, was the bit holders on them, like most of the other brands I have used in the past.If you don't use diffrent types of screws you can't go wrong. I love the light on it. I thought it was kind of a novelty, but it works out great inside dark spots. Get an extra battery, even though it chargers super fast.

  1. I wanted a light weight powerfull drill and that is what I got. Batteries charge fast and last long. I will probably buy the Makita 18V Cordless LXT Lithium-Ion 6-1/2" Circular Saw BSS610Z later on based on satisfaction with the drills.

  2. Love this Makita Combo. I am a 68 year old woman and the drill and driver is light weight and fits ergonomically well in my hand. I used the driver to put in many many screws on our back deck. It had plenty of power. I recharged one battery through this work and found the battery charger worked well and recharged in a very short time. I would highly recommend this Makita Cordless Combo for quality and value (cost).

  3. Based on favorable on-line reviews of the tools offered in this kit, I bit, and I'm not sorry. The light is bright; I finished an outside job after daylight was all gone, using this as a flood light. The 1/2" drill , though not a hammer-drill, has plenty of torque, is very compact and lightweight for such a tool, and the LED , which shines on the work piece is a very nice wrinkle - at times especially helpful. The impact driver is the real standout! So very compact, it amazed me with the stubborn screws and bolts it loosened and the quick and easy way it would sink and tighten without stripping. It also has the helpful LED. And the charger does charge fast. The price is very reasonable and a real bargain for what these tools will do. For their intended purpose I'd say they are "state of the art." For about 25 years now I've owned and much used in my contruction work battery powered tools : Skill, Bosch, Panasonic, Makita, and Milwaukee, and I've used other brands besides. For their purposes these are the best - such fun to use that I actually look forward to working with them.

  4. Bought this set about six months ago and I am still amazed at the performance. The battery life is awesome. I am a cable technician, don't use the drill on a consistent basis, so being able to charge the battery once and then go for about 2 weeks without usage, then having to drill a 3/8 bit into a 2x4, it still gives the same output as if i just charged it. The Impact is awesome, goes through anything, the Light is bright enough to light up an attic or crawl space and the Drill will go through most anything its asked without hesitation.
All in all, if your not going to be using this for a hardcore construction purpose, then this is the best set out there.

  5. This is an excellent kit. I use the impact driver daily and it performs great. Everything from driving screws to assembling and disassembling bolts and nuts. The small light on thesse tools is a great help I never expected. I've owned a dewalt set and the makita performs just as well if not better for a fraction of the price. I highly recommend this set for home and work use. The batteries hold up well and recharge very quickly and the tool is very well balanced and the batteries are very light. I bought this for work and will soon buy another set for at home. It makes all jobs alot easier.

  1. The Good:
The battery is powerful enough and recharge is very quick.

The power to size ratio is fantastic. This drills just as well as my old 14V DeWalt. Let's see if it can survive a couple 9' drops as well...

It fits very well in my hand; about like my 9mm Beretta, solid and comfortable.

    The Bad:
I was disappointed at not having any on board bit storage. There is an add-on that I found for $14.

I have had difficulties similar to another reviewer in that the directional switch is a bit too low. I bump it very easily when trying to re-establish my grip. This locks it or reverses it.

The LED is great, but does not shine right at the point of contact; it shines a bit lower. So in no-light situations, I have to tap the trigger to turn on the light, line up the screw, and then find the head of the screw with the bit in the half-light.

  2. I have had this drill for over a year and it has performed well above expectations. I have come to appreciate the usefulness of the LED. The Jacobs chuck has worked very well.I haven't had a problem with the batteries and the charger functions well. I was worried that it might not have enough torque, but it has plenty in the applications I have used it. Weight is very light, which definitely helps.

I wish it did have a bit holder on it...

  3. I really liked certain aspects of the drill, but unfortunately was still forced to return it and get something else.

I'll start with the good stuff. First off, the weight and feel was perfect, exactly what I was looking for. I'm a sculptor, so I need something light and compact when I am working all around a piece, sometimes in hard to reach, uncomfortable positions. The LED light is good in that it stays on for a little while after it is pushed. More manufacturers should add this feature. It doesn't center exactly on the bit tip, but the way it's positioned under the chuck, like all the drills I've seen, I don't think it will ever be perfect. The power is fantastic and it's the only compact I've seen with 450lbs of torque. I doubt I will ever need that much, since I'm not drilling or screwing into concrete or anything like that, but it could be useful for some people. The charger is the fastest I've seen at 15 minutes. I timed it and it really does charge in or under 15 minutes.

Now I have to talk about the reason I returned it for something else and few other negatives. I bought it at Home Depot, I like to get a feel for tools I buy and they had a power tools sale going on at the time. So I picked one of these up and tested it at home for about a day. I noticed instantly that there was some vibration I wasn't used to in drill. When I looked at the chuck I noticed it was wobbling a bit. I put a 1 1/4" spade bit in as I was drilling holes at the time. I spun it and looked at the tip of the bit, man this thing was wobbling all over the place. By my calculations it had a 1/8" wobble. That might not sound like much, but try to drill a big hole in plastic or a small hole through metal and see what happens. I decided to try and drill a hole out with the spade bit since I had it on anyway. I used a scrap piece of hard plastic as that was the material I was working with presently. Now I knew the bit was ok as I had drilled out some nice clean holes in some other plastic using my old corded Ryobi drill. After trying it out with various speeds and settings, the results were uneven holes, some larger than they should be and chipped edges. The drill was shaking and vibrating like you wouldn't believe too. So I take it back and get another one. After I get it home I test it out and guess what, same results. I even try to drill a small 1/16" hole through some sheet metal. After it flew across the metal for a minute it finally caught and started going in. Man, this bit was shaking back and forth, the whole drill shaking like crazy. I was afraid the bit was going to break off and fly into my eye. So back to Home Depot I go. This time I show the hardware guy and see what he has to say. Maybe I've just gone crazy and am being overly critical. He pops in a spade bit and even he can see the wobble and knows this isn't right. I tell him this my second one, so we take a new one off the shelf and open it up. He pops the spade bit in that one and guess what, same wobble. We decide to test out the comparable Milwaukee compact lithium drill to see if this is just something all the cordless compact drills share. He pops the spade bit into the Milwaukee pulls the trigger and no wobble, smooth as butter. He says maybe they got a bad pallet and could check to see if there was a new skid of the Makitas in the back. I decided to not take anymore chances and swapped out for the Milwaukee.

My reasoning is this is a Makita, not a Skil. It's supposed to be a quality product from a quality manufacturer, I should not have to go through 3 different ones to get a good one. I suppose this may be the world we live in now that everything is made in China, but I think I took more than enough chances on this drill.

Also Makita, don't be so cheap to not add a bit holder and belt clip, come on now.

This may be an isolated incident and I don't want to badmouth a good tool, but I can only comment on my experience. To all the people that are happy with the Makita, I'm glad. To anyone looking to buy one, I suggest you test it out in the store first to make sure there aren't any problems like I had.

On a side note, I didn't have the drill long enough to experience the battery problems some people have had. I don't know if that problem has been fixed or not. The batteries seemed good for the time I used it.

  4. Factory recondition tags on everything, 2 batteries, charger & drill.

1 battery was not in working order, seller replaced promply. No charger

manual, seller sent one with repalcement battery.

Drill worked fine, used it for few prodjects. Time to charge batteries,

DC18RA charger turns on then when battery is put in it goes to a red &

green blinking condition and shuts off. No response yet from seller and

Mikita service has not given a yes or no on charger.

  5. The drill worked perfectly and has been a satisfactory purchase.
The stickers on the case were close to impossible to get off. The refurbisher should looking into labels that can be removed easily by the end user.

  1. Best 30 dollars i've spent in a while. I purchased this to use while grooming my 2 dogs. They hate the nail clippers, and I am prone to accidentally cutting too much nail off and making them bleed.

It worked fabulously for the purpose that I purchased it. I attached the coarse sanding band, and got right to work. Both dogs tolerated it well. Compared to the battle that usually ensues when I attempt to clip their nails, it was almost a pleasure. It made quick painless work of their nails. When I was done, I just swept up a big pile of toenail powder.

    Some Comments:
Time to file nails: 10 minutes / dog ( I bet I'll get faster too )
Battery Life: it did both dogs, but wouldn't have done a third
Sound: didn't seem to scare the dogs
Durability: great considering price. When it breaks i'll just buy a new one
Accessories: fine and coarse sanding, ceramic cutting blade, felt buffer
Power: LOW seemed to be fine for dogs.

The only other suggestion I have is to pick the sander up off the nail every other second or so, because it can build up quite a bit of friction heat, which might cause pain.

  2. I like it but I have not used it yet. It is for my cat's claws.

  3. This item was much less than the same item in all of the big box stores we checked. Thanks.

  4. This works MUCH better than the Dremel made for pets. I bought that one first and had to return it because it was completely ineffective and didn't work properly. This one has been great and the dogs are surprisingly calm while I use it.

  5. This model works great on keeping my 2 Samoyeds nails trimmed. Both dogs now enjoy having their nails done and had no problem with the Dremel Minimite from day one. I'm not sure how the pet model works, but this one is less expensive and works great. I found it's best to trim on the lo speed and only for a few seconds on each nail, otherwise it gets too hot. The price is great, and even with using the free shipping I had it in my mailbox 3 days after ordering.

This is definately better than clipping their nails! As a suggestion, if your dog has hairy feet like mine, try using some old nylons and just poking their nail through the nylon when you trim. This should prevent any hair getting caught in the Dremel.

  1. I've been pretty happy with this tool so far. The dogs got used to it very quickly and it is so much better than the clippers!!

I use 2500 mAH NiMH rechargeable batteries and can get two sets of nail grindings, one week apart, on my two dogs per charge. After that, the batteries have to be recharged.

Part of the problem might just be old style NiMH batteries that I'm using -- they lose charge after a while anyway. When these old batteries die, I'll try the eneloop-style batteries.

The tool body does get a bit hot during prolonged use.

  2. The Dremel product I got seems very good. Only wanted to mention one small problem I had with the instructions. I thought it was somewhat unclear as to how to attach the actual sanding apparatus. I had to have someone help me figure it out. It goes on the same way a drill bit goes on a drill, but darned if I could figure out how to do it, and I'm generally not stupid.
Other than that, it seems like a good value. It would be nice if it came with batteries or if the advertisement was clear that you need 4 Double A batteries. Had to make an additional trip into town (and I live on an island with very muddy dirt roads) to get them.

  3. Got this to replace the spliting clippers I have. My dog hates to have his nails clipped. It has been an adjustment to the dremel. My dog was a little hesitant with the sound and feel, but it's a lot easier than clipping! I do one paw at a time and day and he's adjusting to it.

  4. Everyone says this thing eats batteries - they are right. It is a very greedy tool! I bought a battery recharger (a sound environmental choice anyway) but what really worked was simply loosening the black battery holder on the bottom so that when I stored the tool the battery connection was broken. Meanwhile, after just a few minutes, my dog who really, really doesn't like nail clippers (he has black nails and it's hard not to nip the quick) was on his back peacefully giving his feet over to the procedure. That said, I think if I had a very large dog with thick nails, I'd get a more "industrial strength" tool.

  5. This product took a lot of stress off of me and my dog. In the past, the trimmer I used on his nails hurt him and he would yelp and refuse to let me have his paw. With this dremel tool, he lays quietly and the nail just files away. No stress, no fighting and best of all, I can keep his nails trimmed more often (which eases the pain a dog gets from having long nails). Great product! I wish I had discovered one of these 6 years ago when I got him.
