1. This video is only useful as an additional instruction aid for absolute beginners to Kayaking. If you take a beginning strokes and safety course, which you should, then you'll already learn most of the information on this video. The video has so much material to cover, that it skims over each topic fairly quickly. Most all of the skills on the video are better taught by an instructor in person.
   
   The video covers efficient and relaxed stroke techniques, wet exits, self and assisted rescues, cold-water safety, eskimo rolls, tides and currents, chart reading and navigation, and signaling for help.
   
   This would be a useful video to own for those who are interested in the sport, but have only rented a few times, or for those who want to expose others to trying the sport.
   
   A minor complaint of mine is that the video seems to have been filmed quite a while ago, complete with mullets and 80's-style haircuts and clothing. The self rescues section assumes that you don't have deck bungies to the rear of the cockpit, which most all kayaks come equipped with now.



2. Great DVD!! Good editing, Good Narration, thorough descriptions of techniques, talented paddlers. I have learned more from this one DVD than the entire Nigel Foster's Sea Kayaking 5 volume series DVD's. If you kayak this DVD will help. Is this DVD put out by Dagger kayaks?

1. This DVD is bound to wind up a classic in the paddling world. Whether you enjoy whitewater or a quick stroll across the lake, you will appreciate the skills these folks have with a paddle. Ocean surf is very unpredictable, and these folks make it look easy- enjoy!

1. The British Invasion kicks in to high gear! Peter Casson's Intermediate Skills sea kayaking video packs everything you need to know to be safe and have fun sea kayaking in to one DVD. Peter is a great paddler, instructor and now, video star. He shares all his BCU and ACA accredited experience with the viewers so they can advance their sea kayaking skills to new levels. I highly recommend this DVD.

1. This video appears on a stage already well represented by some top performers such as Nigel Foster, Wayne Horodowich (University of Sea Kayaking), Ken Whiting, and Kent Ford. These kayak instructors have provided well-produced, professionally edited videos that draw from their rich personal experiences and from sound teaching method. They cover the treated topics well, and give rich detail, important in the video format for later review. They all use step-by-step progression, and model techniques and strokes in a clear, slow, and expert manner. I highly recommend them.
   
   This video, on the other hand, lacks the polish readily apparent in the above authors' works. It is unclear who the author of this presentation is, but it's doubtful they have much training as a teacher. The techniques presented are done so with a lack of crispness and detail necessary when teaching, and especially needed when addressing a novice or beginner to the sport.
   
   I found one of the most distracting elements to be the music soundtrack, which is a combination of honky-tonk piano and bizarre sounds that lend themselves more to a children's cartoon program than an instructional video. Turning the music down then prevents one from hearing the voice track, necessary in this form of presentation.
   
   This video's producers might do well to review some of the above-mentioned authors' DVD series (available at Amazon) and attempt to copy them on their next attempt. This video might have been more impressive a dozen years ago, when sea kayaking video instruction was in its infancy. It just can't compete for value as an instructional tool in its present form, with so many excellent competitors available.

   Peter Casson's other video.



3. Show me How Videos has produced another great "how-to" in "Sea Kayaking Fundamentals". This was a great introduction for me, a newcomer to kayaking. I found it well scripted and easy to follow. Looking forward to more!

1. I wish I had bought this video when I first started kayaking, it would have helped me get off to a better start. It goes through gear needed, which would have been a big help. It also hits the basics of paddling. Not much focus on strokes or rolling, but good info how moving down the river.
   
   This is not a replacement for taking an intro to paddling and/or being part of a paddling club. It just helps you prepare for those things.

1. Sea Kayaking shows lots of scenery and introduces techniques necessary to pursue kayaking beyond the casual use of very basic kayaks. As you advance from the $250 chainstore kayaks to Transitional or Touring kayaks this is the video to watch. It is not a whitewater kayaking video it is a sea kayaking video. This video would apply very well to our Great Lakes and rivers and large lake touring as well. I have watched it 4 times already and it has helped me to pick my next set of equipment.

1. This is a very helpful resource for beginners and a nice review for those looking to compare types of paddling or considering different boats.



2. A better and more honest description would have been "An Introduction to Kayaking."
   
   The DVD introduces you to the different types of kayaks & kayaking along with accessories like paddles & safety gear, but doesn't even show how to do something as elemental as rolling a kayak upright. If this is supposed to cover everything about kayaking, it's interesting that they advertise a whole series of DVDs on aspects of kayaking at the end. I didn't appreciate the misrepresentation of this DVD, and would have looked elsewhere for information had I known it was so elementary.

1. By a mistake I got this video instead of Kent Fords rolling video. This video is really fantastic! Eric Jacksons brilliant instructions and very inspiring teaching style makes it fun to watch, together with nice technique demonstrations by EJ himself, his children and Clay Wright. You can build up your skills in a step by step manner and learn to roll in almost any situation. Nice bonus tracs on teaching others to roll and children and white water kayaking.

1. Bought my first kayak right before Memorial Day Weekend and purchased this video to learn the basics prior to going off on my maiden voyage with my toddler. Perfect! That's the best way to describe the information given in the video. I was able to launch, turn, paddle backward, and knowing how to keep me and my kid safe. BUY IT, if you're too impatient to wait for your local traiing course (although you should take that, too)!!!
