1. This video is outstanding in that it meets its intent as an instructional video. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because even though it is an instructional video, I expected there to be some motivational type excerpts, of which there was very little. Ken's approach to teaching is good though, and the layout of the video is such that you can go back and watch segments as you work on different maneuvers without having to search the video for them, God bless the DVD. I highly reccommend this video for anyone looking to get started into kayaking, or for someone like myself who has been paddling for a few years and needs to be reminded of the basics every now and then.



2. This video is ok, but after watching EJ's River Running Basics I have to say that I can see where this video is lacking. For the same price EJ's video is three times as long and goes into much greater depth. This video is still good and there's useful things in it, I know I'll revisit it. But if you're just getting started I'd recommend EJ's video.



3. Rich images, smart editing, clear dialogue, and a fun attitude really combine well in this video. My husband agreed with me that this is way beyond informative. We will watch it when our rivers are still, covered in ice, and we are yearning to get on some liquid water. We will watch it in spring, to review great ideas. We are sharing it with friends who are learning. It's a really good video.

1. This is a very helpful resource for beginners and a nice review for those looking to compare types of paddling or considering different boats.



2. A better and more honest description would have been "An Introduction to Kayaking."
   
   The DVD introduces you to the different types of kayaks & kayaking along with accessories like paddles & safety gear, but doesn't even show how to do something as elemental as rolling a kayak upright. If this is supposed to cover everything about kayaking, it's interesting that they advertise a whole series of DVDs on aspects of kayaking at the end. I didn't appreciate the misrepresentation of this DVD, and would have looked elsewhere for information had I known it was so elementary. It is an expensive advertisement for their other kayaking DVD's.

1. The British Invasion kicks in to high gear! Peter Casson's Intermediate Skills sea kayaking video packs everything you need to know to be safe and have fun sea kayaking in to one DVD. Peter is a great paddler, instructor and now, video star. He shares all his BCU and ACA accredited experience with the viewers so they can advance their sea kayaking skills to new levels. I highly recommend this DVD.

1. Sea Kayaking shows lots of scenery and introduces techniques necessary to pursue kayaking beyond the casual use of very basic kayaks. As you advance from the $250 chainstore kayaks to Transitional or Touring kayaks this is the video to watch. It is not a whitewater kayaking video it is a sea kayaking video. This video would apply very well to our Great Lakes and rivers and large lake touring as well. I have watched it 4 times already and it has helped me to pick my next set of equipment.



2. Great all around video for those looking for the basics up through more advanced skills. Filming and locations are really cool and the teaching host is much better than a couple other videos I've seen.



3. don't get me wrong, this is a very good video, but why 4 (more like a 4.5) instead of 5 stars? One word - details. While the author shows a lot of techniques/general overview, he tends to be somewhat vague in the details (and actually skips some discussions all together), maybe because he is an exerpt kayaker and certain aspects of kayaking just seem intuitive to him by now. Not that this is a big problem, but you need to treat this video more as a starting point than as a "comprehensive" instructional video. Still this is a very good/well put together video very suitable for beginner/novice/intermediate

1. Wow! I am very excited and inspired by the product. It is not just instructional but offers an exciting way to look at White water kayaking. If anyone has a desire to look into this sport, these are the videos to watch. Hey, even for fun and entertainment.

1. This video appears on a stage already well represented by some top performers such as Nigel Foster, Wayne Horodowich (University of Sea Kayaking), Ken Whiting, and Kent Ford. These kayak instructors have provided well-produced, professionally edited videos that draw from their rich personal experiences and from sound teaching method. They cover the treated topics well, and give rich detail, important in the video format for later review. They all use step-by-step progression, and model techniques and strokes in a clear, slow, and expert manner. I highly recommend them.
   
   This video, on the other hand, lacks the polish readily apparent in the above authors' works. It is unclear who the author of this presentation is, but it's doubtful they have much training as a teacher. The techniques presented are done so with a lack of crispness and detail necessary when teaching, and especially needed when addressing a novice or beginner to the sport.
   
   I found one of the most distracting elements to be the music soundtrack, which is a combination of honky-tonk piano and bizarre sounds that lend themselves more to a children's cartoon program than an instructional video. Turning the music down then prevents one from hearing the voice track, necessary in this form of presentation.
   
   This video's producers might do well to review some of the above-mentioned authors' DVD series (available at Amazon) and attempt to copy them on their next attempt. This video might have been more impressive a dozen years ago, when sea kayaking video instruction was in its infancy. It just can't compete for value as an instructional tool in its present form, with so many excellent competitors available.

   but enjoyable for our entire family. I'm looking forward to purchasing
   Peter Casson's other video.



3. Show me How Videos has produced another great "how-to" in "Sea Kayaking Fundamentals". This was a great introduction for me, a newcomer to kayaking. I found it well scripted and easy to follow. Looking forward to more!



4. This video is a simple but careful and informative guide for those interested in pursuing the joy of kayaking. I recommended to anyone whose hears the call and wants to experience the passion of kayaking on the sea to learn the most effective techniques and while keeping safety in mind.

1. Bought my first kayak right before Memorial Day Weekend and purchased this video to learn the basics prior to going off on my maiden voyage with my toddler. Perfect! That's the best way to describe the information given in the video. I was able to launch, turn, paddle backward, and knowing how to keep me and my kid safe. BUY IT, if you're too impatient to wait for your local traiing course (although you should take that, too)!!!



2. This DVD is a wonderful introduction to the world of kayaking. I actually loaned it to some friends who were starting a kayaking group and haven't seen it since. They tell me that they've watched it numerous times to make sure they understand the basics themselves before leading their group down the rivers. They are also showing the video to the new members prior to hitting the water. I guess I'll have to put it back on my wishlist since it's unlikely that it's going to be returned anytime soon!!



3. I bought two new kayaks for my son and myself from Dick's Sporting Goods. We were both experienced in canoeing, but new to kayaking. The DVD was perfect for us. An experienced kayaker may find it too basic (but they may pick up a pointer or two, or learn some things to teach those new to the sport). So, my five stars applies to newcomers only.
