5 comments about Miracle (Widescreen Edition).
- I have the DVD with 2 disks and enjoy it very much. My cousin is one of the major stars in this and was never an actor, but a hockey player! He did a great job and so did all the other kids. I remember watching the USA gold winning hocky game played in the Lake Placid Olympics on TV when I was 13 (my family being from upstate NY) and remember the sheer exhilaration and awe we all felt at beating the odds. Having said that, I don't think the extras gave it the same feeling. But I guess you can't paid Canadians enough to cheer for the US in hockey. I think it means more to them. Still, loved the movie and I want to say 'Hi' to all the 'Miracle Cuties' who were part of it.
- I grew up in Texas in the 60s. It's an understatement to say that hockey was a sport I had little knowledge of, and even less interest in.
That changed very dramatically in 1980. For those of you too young to remember the cold war, it's probably hard to understand the national significance attached to sporting and cultural events that pitted the US vs. the Soviet Union: Van Cliburn winning the Tchaikovsky piano competition in Moscow in 1958; Bobby Fischer defeating Boris Spassky for the world chess championship in 1972; the Soviet basketball team (in an extremely controversial game) ending the US's unbeaten streak in the Olympics that same year; and the Miracle on Ice depicted in this movie. In each case, millions of Americans who had little interest in classical music or chess or basketball or hockey suddenly found themselves very interested indeed. Whether or not these events should have been viewed as Cold War battles, it's simply the case that they were.
Having said that, how well does "Miracle" recall the events? I think it does so brilliantly, from the casting to the cinematography to the direction -- all of it. It's not hard to believe you're back in 1980.
Final note: next to hearing the famed Al Michaels line "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!", my favorite scene was a few seconds earlier. As the clock wound down with the US team protecting its lead, we see the coach's wife in the stands, head bowed and gloved hands rubbing together nervously, unable to watch. One of many, many great vignettes in this great movie.
- The challenges were formidable: A Soviet hockey team that won by intimidation. After all, they hadn't been beaten in 15 years. But it could be done. Coach Brooks kept telling his 19 year-old players to play their game and to take the fight to the Russians. They had to WANT it. In some games, the players had given less than 100%, and coach Brooks would not stand for it.
But first things first. The team had to become a cohesive unit. And, even if it were never to become the best team in the world, it had to become the best conditioned team in the world. This took time. Finally, even if they were not better than the Russians overall, they HAD to be the better team that particular night.
The politics at the time was clear. President Carter had just given his malaise speech. The US was humiliated by Ayatollah Khomeini. A sign posted at the US-Soviet hockey game at Lake Placid said: "Get the puck out of Afghanistan!"
And so the stage was set for the miracle. The Soviet coach was staring with unbelief--like a fish out of water. A spell of delirium captured the US. Who could forget?
- I would like to be able to review this product but the DVD did not work in my DVD player. Neither the full length movie DVD or the DVD with the extra interviews. I would return it but the cost is not worth the effort. I had ordered this because I had the same problem with one I bought in the store and thought it was defective. This one did the same thing. All the other DVDs I have work in my DVD player. There is a tech assistance number but that was no help. I really liked the movie when I saw it on TV and that is why I wanted the DVD and to be able to see the interviews.
- There a lot of great reviews out there for what is one of our top favorite flicks, but I don't seem to see what I thought was a great part of the production. I recently bought the video of the original game...which I can remember seeing like it was yesterday. We were shocked to find that the sound track from the original broadcast was used 100% in the movie, not an easy trick because the action then had to match what the announcers had said. This makes for a surprisingly real reproduction. And the Russian coach in the movie is dead ringer for the real guy who has to be seen to be appreciated.

5 comments about The Waterboy.
- My husband loves this movie so much that I am buying it for him again.
- This is a great movie. Many lines that are worth repeating to your friends.
- This is Adam Sandler at his best playing a goofy waterboy. Kathy Bates as his overbearing mother was hilarious, the scene with his bed sheet pegged out is just class, I have never laughed so much. This is an absolute must see for all Sandler fans.
- "Water's better than gatorade", "but mommy said..." are just a few of the waterboy's catch lines from the Waterboy. This is definately one of Sandler's best known movies. Here he stars as a waterboy who claims that water is always better than gatorade...only to be knocked out or teased by the football players. But when Bobby (Sandler) makes a great play in football, he becomes a "legend". This is a must for any Adam Sandler fan!!!
- This is my favorite of all of Sandler's movies. It is among one of the few movies that I cannot count how many times I've seen. I could never grow tired of watching this movie! If you like movies that are just plain FUNNY you'll love this movie. Kathy Bates did an excellent Mama. There are a few lines that will stick with you, and if you are like me years later will still laugh hard every time you hear them. "You can do it!" is my favorite. Sandler's character is simple, sweet, and lovable. Mama is more multi-dimensional than I expected her to be the first time I watched the movie. His girlfriend would seem like the worst match on Earth for him, but they make a great comedy compliment to each other well. The coach is another lovable character. You'll be rooting for the good guys and laughing like you haven't laughed in years (or since the last time you watched Waterboy).

- This was a fun, silly video that my grandson and his dad thoroughly enjoyed. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
- This a great rainy day family fun, must have dvd set. Emilio Estevez, it his finest. A wonderful set of dvds that you can't just, watch once. I highly, recommend this for any family viewing.
For young hockey fans, it teaches, about the game of hockey & team sportmenship.
- I would recommend this dvd set to my friends and family because it's great value.
- This isn't so much a product review, but I'm just letting people know that I recently got my copy of the boxed set and it appears they fixed the D3 problem where it used to have the wrong movie burned onto the DVD.
I was a little scared there after reading some of the other reviews, but my boxed set is just fine and dandy.
- This item came ontime and was in perfect condition. Just the way it should be

5 comments about 8 Seconds.
- I went down the road many a night heading to the next rodeo listening to most of these songs. Lane was an exceptional person he had a good heart, Lanes theme says it all.
- Long before the PBR became a household word, there were world champion bull riders Lane Frost and Tuff Hedeman. Luke Perry and Stephen Baldwin bring these characters to life.
Based on the true story of Lane Frost, this movie takes a few artistic licenses (adulterous affair, ect) but basically stays true to form. You can't help but like Lane and Tuff, and get caught up in the world of bull riding.
A few swear words and the aforementioned affair should be explained to young viewers before watching but otherwise the movie is ok for kids.
- Luke Perry is excellent in this Bio-Pic of Rodeo great, Lane Frost. This is a great film. Stephen Baldwin is a laugh riot as Bull Riding Champion, "Tuff" Heddamen. This is a really well put together film. I really liked it. Nobody can deliver a "feel good" movie like John G. Avildsen (Karate Kid, Rocky)....and this is no exception. You really get a sense of who Lane Frost was, and what the "Rodeo Life" is really like. It will make you laugh, it will make you mad, and it will make you cry. This is a great film that is definetely worth the price of admission. So, saddle up and get ready for a great ride !!! 4 Stars.
- This movie is great. Some of the details are inaccurate to the real life story of Lane Frost. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie-probably more than 10.
- I love this movie!
"8 Seconds" is a classic!
Luke Perry puts on his best performance ever as Lane Frost! Stephen Baldwin nails his role too, as legendary bull rider Tuff Hedeman!
One of my favorites, not just for cowboys!!
Highly recommended if you havent seen this film!!!

5 comments about The Legend of Bagger Vance.
- If you like golf, romance, a wonderful musical score, a good story, a great cast, and a little fantasy, you'll love The Legend of Bagger Vance. The scenery is breathtaking. The story is uplifting and fun. I enthusiastically recommend Bagger Vance.
- This is a movie ostensibly about golf, but in actuality it is about life. A once superb golfer sinks to a life of drink and gambling. Challenged to participate as local color, he begins to practice his swing with a view of playing in a tournament with legendary Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen. From nowhere Bagger Vance appears, guides him to the mentality and courage to really take part. He rises to the occasion and when able to carry on alone, Bagger Vance disappears,
Beyond the obvious lesson about life and inner strength, the golf tournament itself is lovely, with the actor playing Bobby Jones particularly displaying a beautiful swing. Matt Damon does well as always.
- A delightful film about finding one's swing. A retired golfer is pushed back into the game even though he is convinced that he has lost his swing for good. A whimsical caddy comes along to show him how to find it, which is really a metaphor for finding oneself.
This movie is replete with spiritual metaphors that are sure to make you more aware of how one's path, or purpose, can only be found through the effortless ease of oneness with all.
Sit back, relax and allow yourself to sink deeply into this deeply creative and profound film.
- I bought this movie for my Dad for fathers day. This is a good movie, but a really great movie for any golfer.
- Absolutely awful movie. Movie had a terrible cast other than Will Smith, Matt Damon, and the two other golfers. Charlize Theron did not belong in this movie. 99% of the story from the book is absent in this film, taking on new and completely unrelated turns and incorporating menial book characters and blowing them up to be main characters for the movie (i.e. the role of charlize theron). ALL the drama from the book is lost, all the heart pounding dialogue and earth shattering descriptions and visualizations are lost, and all is left is a horribly directed and confused film with no message what so ever. The book is amazing, too bad the film stinks. Read the book.

5 comments about Clerks (Collector's Series).
- I thought this film was good. A cult film by Kevin Smith, with great characters, especially Randall and Dante, also the hilarious Jay and Silent Bob.
A good DVD for all Kevin Smith fans to own.
- Kevin Smith's first movie in "The Jersey Trilogy" is arguably still his all-time best! Shot in Black & White on a low budget, it features content over flash. It chronicles a day in the life of Dante Hicks, a convenience store clerk who gets called in to work on his day off. His friend Randall Graves works at the low-rate video store across the way. Randall is a bitter, cynical young guy who doesn't like or respect anyone or anything (except maybe hermaphorditic porn). Through all his trials in this day, Dante keeps whining his tag phrase, "I'm not even supposed to be here today!" This movie was everyone's first introduction to the characters, Jay and Silent Bob. Writer/director Kevin Smith is excellent in the role of Silent Bob. J & SB are great as minor, background silly, obscene characters to lighten the plot (which is brilliant...but even this heavily real comedy benefits from the comic relief). But in other movies where Kevin has tried to feature J & SB as main characters (such as "Mallrats", "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"), the plots get silly, juvenile and aimed at teenagers. This is a more mature and real comedy aimed at adults. Please, Kevin.......for the sake of the part of your audience that has a brain, keep Jay and Silent Bob as minor side characters in all upcoming flicks. This is a stark, vulgar, real comedy that looks at life from the vantage point of someone who has grown up a little. It's funny, because it's real. Kevin's co-producer Scott Mosier also takes 2 small roles in the film. Mosier plays a stoner who is knicknamed Snowball because of a sex practice he likes. Scott also plays an irate customer who gets mad that Dante closed the store to play hockey on the roof. This irate customer bullies his way into the game. And when Dante gets fined for selling cigarettes to small children (even though he's innocent?) and a college girl accidentally has sex with a dead guy in the bathroom, the authorities are left to wonder, "What kind of a store are you running here, anyway?" There is nothing dirty or nasty that happens on-screen. But due to adult language and frank discussions of adult subjects, this film is not for general audiences. With the possible exception of "Chasing Amy", this is by far Kevin Smith's best film (and that includes all 5 or 6 flicks that comprise "The Jersey Trilogy"), because it is vulgar and raw and very real. Clerks has become one of my all-time favorite comedies! In one word: Brilliant!
- "I'm not even supposed to be here!" Says Dante, who must replace his boss at the convenience store on his day off. Witty dialogue, annoying customers, and perplexing twentysomething existentialism ensues. Kevin Smith's breakthrough award winning movie just goes to show you that with as little as 2000 dollars, you can make a sundance nominated movie.
- This is the definitive version of Clerks. if you are anything like me, when you first told other people about Clerks they probably said "Clerks, never heard of it." And when you said that Kevin Smith was the last saving bastion of the crumbling film world, they said "Kevin Who??"
Well now that all of those saps have finally caught up to the rest of us who are leading the pack. You can now get this and stay one step ahead again. The theatrical release, The first Clerks cut and a superb doco. All are priceless.
Even though there are some young sad Emo's out there saying "Clerks II, there was never a Clerks I"
Like a great man once said "I pity da fool"
10/10 for this 3-Disc, 10th Anniversary set and all of it's glorious extras.
- For anyone that's actually worked retail, this is an excellent choice. In some parts, it's painfully accurate; in others, it's a realization of what many wish they could do and not lose the job at which they work. (At least it was like that for me.) Upon the first viewing, it's obvious that it's low budget; but once you think about it, do you really need a budget to describe a day in the life of your average Clerk? Not really.
All that aside; it's a hilarious, albeit filthy movie. Additionally the special edition is chock full o' extras, including the somewhat more depressing director's cut.

- The disc arrived in perfect condition, however will not play on the DVD recorder. Push play and it ejects with no message. Putting into the computer DVD drive it displays a ticked US and canada only. Australia is listed but 'in faint' and an inability to register exists. Whilst this probably is not Amazon's fault discs sold overseas should be playable.

- Does this really require a review. A NEwman classic and throw in the Hanson Brothers and you have a great film!
- Paul Newman was hopelessly miscast in this pic.It was unnerving to hear the filth that came from his mouth. He is too great for that.Hard to believe this is the same man who excelled as Fast Eddie Felson or Cool Hand Luke.
- This is a very funny movie. When I watched it the first time, I was just thinking "this is not how sports should be played, where is the sportsmanship." But then I watched it again a few days later, and I realized that it is more about how messed up things were in a town like this and in the '70's, and it suddenly made sense that they desperately wanted to keep their jobs, so they did whatever it took. There are a lot of classic lines in this movie, and it kept me laughing the whole time. How can anyone forget the Hanson brothers after watching this movie? Paul Newman does great as well, very tough, very funny. Good movie.
- Just one of those 'classic' sports movies. Aside from the 70s nostalgia, it's the fact that if you've ever worked or played in the minor leagues this movie will ring absolutely true. I finally burned out my old VHS version that I played every October when the NHL starts up. The names, the references, the laughs; even if you don't like hockey, "Slap Shot" can be appreciated for what it is - a look back at the bottom rung of a bygone era in sports.

- I LOVE this movie. Romantic, but not too sappy (guys will totally like it too). How cool that this one comes with the soundtrack!!
- I loved this movie when it first came out. (so does my boyfriend) And the soundtrack is really good. I highly recommend.
- It's not often my sports nut fiance and I agree on not only which movie to select, but whether or not it's actually good! Love and Basketball is one that we both really enjoyed. The film heats up both on and off the court- satisfying his need for slick b-ball moves and my quench for romance. Perfect flick for date night! The soundtrack is a great bonus.
- This movie was a really pleasant surprise. I hesitated seeing this movie because I thought it would be another guy sports movie but it came recommended by a friend. I rented it then ended up buying it. The storyline is great, the love story really sweet and the music even better than I thought as well. Highly recommend it!
- This is a classic movie. It's entertaining for both guys and girls and would be a cute to give as part of a Valentine's Day gift. My husband loves sports and enjoys watching the DVD, but I kept the soundtrack for me! Win/win!

5 comments about Cool Runnings.
- This is the story of the Jamaican bobsled team that made it to the Olympics. It is based on a true story.
Unfortunately, true or not, there are scenes you just don't want children to see, and we were prettty shocked that it was rated only PG.
We could maybe have lived with one character calling another "*ssh*le", but there is an extended scene in a bar, involving a bar fight, during which the drinking, name-calling and fighting in that scene bracket another scene in the mens room of the bar, where one of the characters looks into a mirror and says, over and over, " I'm a bad-*ss mother who don't take no cr*p off of nobody!"
If these don't bother you - or if your child is of an age where you feel it's ok for them to see these scenes - then "Cool Runnings" is an otherwise ok movie. But these scenes were of a magnitude that for us this movie was definitely not ok.

- no issues with this purchase. Got a little nervous because it didn't arrive until the day before Xmas, but otherwise fine.
- A Jamaican man has the dream to make it to the Olympics, and while he is the fastest runner in the Island nation, he is tripped and unable to win.
He finds out that there is another opportunity, and that is for a bobsled team, something Jamaica has never attempted because... who would ever dream of a team from a Caribbean Island that competes against the best of the best... they don't even know about snow!!!
John Candy is a retired Olympic gold medal winner and he lives in Kingston. The team enlists his services and soon we find ourselves witnessing a rather funny story of a group of athletes going to compete in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where cold is something beyond every conceivable idea of this group of four great athletes.
Simply, don't' miss this fun Caribbean story of the struggle to achieve greatness.
- This is such a great movie - I loved it in the theater and now my kids love it!

1 comments about Detroit Red Wings - NHL Stanley Cup Champions 2007-2008 [Region 2].
- The corks on the bottles of champagne in the Red Wings' locker room were yet to be popped before I hit the "Send Order" button at NHL.Com for my copy of the Red Wings' Championship video. Despite my alleged maturity I'll confess to being a memorabilia geek when it comes to one of my hometown teams winning a championship. I'll buy the hat, I may get the shirt. But one thing that I'll definitely buy is the video. I'll admit to having most of the Detroit Lions season recap videos from back in the 90s when the NFL still produced them.
Owning a championship video is part of the rite of being a sports fan. There's nothing like sitting down on the couch in our living room on a slow television night and recapturing the emotion and glory of a championship campaign condensed into a one-hour DVD or video. To this day watching Vladimir Konstantinov's open ice hits and Steve Yzerman hoisting the Cup after the Wings vanquished the Flyers in 1997 still brings tears to my eyes. Despite being almost twenty years removed, watching Isiah Thomas kiss the Larry O'Brien Trophy after the Detroit Pistons at long lost reached the summit of professional basketball excellence rekindles the same emotions that I felt that evening.
The accomplishments in themselves were memorable. However, it was the production value that went into the championship videos that preserved in perpetuity the emotions and memories associated with each championship. For example, the 1997 Red Wings Championship video brilliantly captured everything that Red Wings fans experienced that season following classic dramatic form.
There's the exposition beginning the the Wings' humiliation at the hands of Claude Lemiuex and the Avalanche the season before. The rising action and climax that recalls the acquisition of Brendan Shanahan, The Fight, through the Wings' playoff campaign. Finally there's the resolution culminating in the Wings' ultimate triumph.
So after unwrapping the 2008 Red Wings' Championship video from its hyper-protective plastic wrap cover, finally convincing our three year son to go to bed, placing the DVD in the player, my wife and I sat together on our couch anxiously awaiting the unfolding of yet another championship campaign with a `Made In Detroit' stamp.
The disappointment began at the inception when the video began with advertisements for NHL Films and NHL.Com that couldn't be skipped. After sitting through those, the Menu Screen comes up with little fanfare.
I won't get into a blow-by-blow analysis of the video as viewers can come to their own conclusion. However, the fact that my wife (who actually wanted to watch the video) lost interest about half-way through is indicative of how formulaic this video was approached by the NHL.
I'll concede that we're talking about a sports highlight video here and not the latest Coppolla offering. While the video was about the Red Wings undoubtedly, coupled with a nod to Michigan's current economic plight, I walked away from the experience feeling as though this video could have been about any team, playing any sport, during any season. In the end, it was a cut-and-paste job that fell far short of recapturing with any true meaning what the Red Wings accomplished in 2008. Gone is the uniqueness that accompanied the `97, `98 and 2002 Wings' videos.
Die-hard Wings fans will rush out to buy their copy because that's what die-hard fans do. However, I almost hope that the Red Wings organization takes a close look at the production and decides that their fans deserve more than this obviously half-hearted League effort. The 2008 Detroit Red Wings were special. You wouldn't know it by this video.
