- Play Daze is an incredible video for anyone who is trying to learn advanced playboating skills. The video covers a wide range of moves, from the basics of stern squirting, to the advanced moves such as cartwheels and splitwheels.
What makes play daze so exceptional is the fantastic footage and the excellent narration that goes with it. It almost makes you feel like you're watching the action from an eddy with an instructor sitting beside you. The Video clearly breaks down the moves, explains what you need to do, and shows you the action from a variety of angles. This video is a fantastic compliment to any kayaker's library. If you're into playboating, and want to learn more advanced tricks, this is a video for you... It's definately one of the best videos produced on the subject of playboating.
- This video helped take my paddling to the next level. Might sound hokey, but Ken Whiting's approach is totally unique and I've started to use it frequently in the kayak school I now work for.

- A clear, beautiful and informative display of canoe paddling techniques. I watched this all winter long when I couldn't get out on the water. Now, if only I could paddle as well as she. Of course my father was not Bill Mason! Some people have all the luck!
- For illustrating the joy and beauty in solo canoeing this book is tops. For those who want tips on efficient solo canoeing, the instructions are more clearly shown than if you were out on the water because the camera focuses in on the details of the stroke. If you were on the water, you would have the distractions of trying to position the canoes so you can see what is being shown. Makes me want to get back in my canoe right now.

- I got this to help me plan a trip to the area. Such a far away land with so little info available. Well, not pictures or video anyway. I got the video set and have now planned my trip. Great insights into the land, wildlife, and the river itself. My group has all watched the videos and we are more excited than ever. Fear of the unknown almost prevented us from taking this trip. Thankfully I got these videos and saw the natural wonders we would have missed if we did not take this trip. Worth much more than I paid for it. A must have for anyone traveling to ANWR or floating Alaska rivers in the arctic.
- I got these videos recently to help me plan a float trip on the Kongakut. All I can say is "WOW". The quality of these videos far surpassed my expectations. I was just looking for some insights into the canyon section of the river that has some class III rapids (in June). What I found was a lesson on wildlife, hiking, rafting, and river travel. Tons of insights were offered within the video and commentary provided. Tastefully offered and there was no babbling to fill camera time. Wonderful images of the land, auffice, caribou, birds, etc.. and I feel like I have already been to the area. I am certainly less fearful of tackling this river myself after watching the videos. Certainly a river that is as remote as this one demands respect, but to have seen it so intimately prior to taking the trip is a huge benefit. My hats off to the fellows that put this video set together. Job well done!
- I too used this DVD set to help me decide about doing an Arctic river trip. As anyone knows who's looked into such adventures, they're not cheap so the more info you have for decision-making, the better. By providing a first-hand and detailed visual account of exactly what such a trip is like, this set was invaluable.
But even if you are strictly an arm-chair traveler, if you enjoy getting to know someplace fascinating and very different from what most of us have seen "outside" the Alaskan frontier, this DVD set will give you hours of pleasure. Watching the river scene glide by, thrilling to classic Alaskan mega-fauna up close, experiencing the subtle but constant lighting changes from the "Midnight Sun" is time richly spent. Just when the typical "nature" documentary would end, you'll still have several hours of great video and still pics to savor! Definitely worth the money no matter your goals! THANKS Dave!

- I ordered this DVD for our Grandson who is about to be married. He and his fiancee have just started canoeing. When my husband and I first canoed, we had never been in a canoe. As I was trying to navigate a water falls on a curve, I was very scared. I had my son in the canoe with me and my huaband and 2nd son had navigated the falls and were watching me try to stay afloat. I yelled to him, "I want a divorce." Therefore I wanted my Grandson to begin his new sport and marriage with knowledge and love. They now have viewed the DVD and are ready to lovingly take on the sport.

- This a great "How-To" DVD for those at a beginning level in a solo canoe. It is straight forward, in simple language, and presented in bite-size pieces.
If you want to learn to solo canoe, get this DVD.
- if you are into solo tripping, solo canoeing, or anything close...I suppose you have to get this one.
Informative, a bit elemental, and I wish more time was spent on paddling loaded boats - empty canoes are fine for paddles within sight of shore...but I guess it's hard to cover everything.

1 comments about paddling the tandem canoe.
- I've been paddling canoe's since I was a child and I'm 60 now. My wife is new to canoes but I showed her a few basic strokes and thought we were OK for routine paddling on quiet water. I was mistaken. I'd recently completed a cedar strip canoe of a design that incorporates a performance type hull which typically means it's not very stable in it's primary mode, which is when it's level and not leaning. Nautically this is known as being "tender". It has good secondary stability which means that as you lean it over a bit, it resists leaning further. But if you aren't ready for this, the poor primary stability can be disconcerting.
During our maiden voyage we capsized. I realized we needed more information on how to handle the canoe and I bought "Paddling the Tandem Canoe" by Quietwater films in hopes that we could learn to paddle comfortably in our canoe and not dread going out.
The video was terrific. It explained many things including hull design and how to enter and exit a canoe safely. I thought I knew how to do that but what they demonstrated made a lot of sense. They push for a wet launch, which means we have to buy some water sport footwear and clothing now, but it was good information, and wet launching saves the hull from scrapes and wear.
The real important stuff, like a paddling technique that can prevent capsizing was priceless and well demonstrated. I ran it through twice, and my wife declared we'd have to return to this video with paddles in hand so that we could go through the techniques and get a good feel for them.
I whole heartedly endorse this video, there's so much more to it that I cannot list it all here but it was a real eye opener and well worth the purchase price.
If you've paddled for a while but have not been formally taught, this video should be on your list of must see information.
