  1. Denzel delivers a great performance, that is different from his other classic roles. Denzel plays Jake Shuttlesworth, father of Jesus, (played by NBA great Ray Allen). The movie is phenomenal, a must see.

  2. This inspirational, strong, sad, and uplifting story reflects life in brooklyn, and it is just so good. I am a huge spike lee fan and this is one of his top 5 in my mind, incredible. I Love this Movie!

  3. I ordered HE Got Game - they sent the wrong DVD - I emailed them and never got a response!!!! I think they may send whatever dvd they want to get rid of. Still waiting for my DVD!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I have not heard any recent PE albums. That said, I think this album is one of the best albums PE has done up to this date (1998). My favorite used to be "Apocalypse 91- The Enemy Strikes Black". Why do I like this album so much? One, PE's lyrics brilliantly mix their trademark political issues with the movie storyline, "He Got Game". Two, their sound and beat changed slightly more to a modern beat yet keeps a bit of their old-school sound. For example, "He Got Game" is a definite modern remix of what many rappers do today, find a catchy beat from a famous song and add their beat to it. But my favorite songs on the album are "House of the Rising Sun" and "Game Face".

There are not many albums nowadays one can listen from beginning to end and say "that was a great album; every song is good". Apocalypse 91 is one, but I think "He Got Game" is another one. Though this album is 1998, it still sounds and feels "modern".

  5. Jake Shuttlesworth is in prison serving time for killing his wife in a violent family feud. He is released on parole, but with one condition - he must persuade his son, genius basketball player Jesus to sign with the governor's alma mater university, Big State. And Jake only has a week to do it. Spike Lee's He Got Game is a beautifully shot and well-executed exploration of the role that the sport of basketball plays in the relationship between a father and his estranged son. The definitive sense of Spike's style that was quite apparent throughout this movie. Denzel, as usual, excellently handles his role as the intense father, and is utterly believable in both his emotion-laden and his violent, angry scenes. This movie is a important accomplishment and should be seen.

  1. Movie arrived quickly and in condition promised. Will buy from this seller again! Thanks so much!

  2. This movie is essentially a recording of what's great about America and the American Dream. You will not find a more representative example of passion and commitment. I was stunned to learn the story of the beginning of the legend created by Pistol Pete. I left yearning to know more, and to see what happened in the years following those the movie covered. Don't purchase this movie if you seek simply entertainment. Buy this movie to learn about the art of the possible.

  3. Pete Maravich is the greatest scorer in the history of NCAA basketball. Think about it. This is a record that has stood for 40 years AND he did it before the three point rule (he was a guard with many of his shots outside today's three point boundary) AND freshman were not eligible when he played so he did it in three years. He averaged 44 points (charts show it would have been an incredible 57 with the three point rule) per game for three seasons. He also went on to become one of the all time great NBA players and was the youngest ever selected for the Hall of Fame. He was also a pioneer of the free wheeling style of basketball that dominates today. Behind the back passes and between the legs dribbling were unheard of in the white dominated basketball culture. Much more common in the segregated black teams and leagues, it was considered show-boating and hot-dogging in the white culture at that time. But Pete had a Dad, Press Maravich (a great player & coach in his own right), who was also a visionary and saw this as the future of basketball. This film is the story of how a father passed on his dream and vision to his talented and determined son at an early age. The film primarily covers Pete's eighth grade basketball, a coming of age experience, for this young man, both socially and athletically. Too good for his age and not politically correct to beat out the coach's son, he sits on the bench for a good part of the season until an injury puts him in the starting lineup. Basketball would never be the same again. While not a big budget film, nevertheless, it is a very satisfying story of this incredible athlete in this particular stage of his career. Adam Guier, who plays the eighth grade Pete, is no slouch as a basketball talent and makes the basketball scenes very real. Get the family or your team together for a fun and inspiring experience.

  4. Can't wait to show this movie to my kids one day. Delivery was on time and the DVD is in great shape.

  5. An awsesome DVD & the Amazing talent that the young actor Adam Guier who depicted Pete Maravich.
This is a inspirational story to any young person who wants to aspire to better things, it certainly does it for me as coming from a Basketball background myself, however when I was playing my Hero's in the game were Bill Russell, Jerry West, & Dr "J" & the likes from that era.
It has taken me years to find this flim after 1st seeing this many a year ago.
Once again a must watch & highly Reccommended

  1. Don Cheadle is a great actor and I have so many of his movies. I remember this on HBO and watching the success, shock, and tragedy of a man that took the wrong path. It really wakes you up. I think it would be a great movie for schools to play for students.

  2. This is the first big film role for the great Don Cheadle, whose name is buried in the official promo material for "Rebound." He was an unknown at the time, so Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has no real role, gets top feature. What the--?!

For me, Cheadle is the film. Excellent script, supporting actors, direction...but it's Cheadle's movie as a Harlem playground basketball genius. And he shows why he became an actor of distinction.

It helps a lot that Cheadle can play. At least, it sure looks like it. The story is tragic, but this movie just loves basketball. The court scenes are terrific. On the playground, in organized games.

As a boy, Manigault had the idea of practicing with ankle weights to strengthen his legs. He is finally allowed into a pickup game of older players. "Yeah, allright, you take him." Every ball kid's dream.

There is another where he takes a bet on how high he can jump. Memorable.

"Rebound" celebrates the game and one of the gifted men who played it and loved it. In all respects it's right up there with "Hoosiers."

  3. Gentlemen,

I had an opportunity to visit The Goat in the hospital before he passed away. I made the mistake of calling him "Goat". Upon correcting me he said, "No, The Goat. What good is a king without his crown? What good is a man without his title?" I quickly got the point.

    Thanks,

    Chris Rucker

  4. This was a great movie. Don Cheadle did a great job portraying "the goat." I was able to allow my S/A student to view it for educational purposes. Would recommend it to anyone who loves a great movie.

  5. This is an amazing movie and such a sad story, it would have been an honor to see him play against the best of the best with video footage at his best in the NBA. Would have been amazing, everyone should know the GOAT...

  1. I own this on VHS. I wanted the DVD. I use this film in summer school for English 11. A great story.

  2. This film is a lot more than the story of a black boy from the Bronx finding his full realization in both basket-ball and creative writing. This film is a lot more than the skimming of black public high schools by white private high school to find the winning sportsmen they need. This film is a lot more than the story of a black teenager who finds his mentor, a father substitute since he has no father and his elder brother is not the model he wants, in a famous and yet totally marginal writer, Scottish by origin and bird-loving by choice and passion. This film is a lot more than the exacting tyrant a failed writer can become when he decides to compensate his failure in writing by becoming a creative writing and literature teacher. And this film is also a lot more than the phenomenal emotional shock it is for an aging man, diagnosed with cancer, entirely solitary and marginalized to find by accident and the insistence on the side of the foundling, the younger man who is going to be his follow-up next generation. He gets out of his cocoon. He gets out of his seclusion. Even so much that he will save his foundling from academic probation and even open up the door to his future. This film is all that together and a lot more. It is the story of loyalty, commitment and yet betrayal and salvation. Deeply emotional all along the film gets to a poignant ending when the death of the older man is announced by a lawyer to the younger man, and when this younger man is given the full legacy of the older man: the keys to the older man's den and sanctuary in the Bronx, a final farewell manuscript letter and the manuscript of his second and posthumous novel to be prefaced by the younger man. The racial problem is dealt with delicately but thoroughly showing how little race has to do with creative imagination, or even plain human love, but also that it has a lot to do with some preconceived ideas that a black basket ball player cannot be a creative writer of any excellence. A film to watch several times just for fun and emotional inspiration. You can always trace and track all the visual or situational allusions to many other films, like Matt Damon as a young lawyer. I have seen that somewhere else. Solve the many riddles of the type like the older man on his old fashioned bike cycling to the private school to save his black younger friend from ostracism and rejection. He just misses a black gown flying around him.

  3. Finding Forrester is a fascinating movie. I highly recommend it. Sean Connery is superb as always, as is his young co-star, Rob Brown. Definitely worth seeing again and again.

  4. Dear Seller:

We really had a great time with this film. It was nicely sent, with fine wrapping materials, love and tender care. What a beautiful story . . . my beloved, my ex-wife was so pleased with it that she re-wrapped it and sent it as a birthday gift for her brother (my ex-brother-in-law) in California, partly because he is looking a lot like Sean Connery with hair. Anyway, thanks so much for a great film and gift.

    Best wishes,

J "Jay" Samuel Davis, Alpine, Texas

  5. This seller went way beyond the line for me. I appreciate this attention and I look forward to buying from you again in the near future.

  1. It was great to see the gang together again. But there was TOO MUCH SINING for me, they should have saved that for the music CD.

  2. This is another High School Music, but probably my least favorite of the three. My daughters enjoyed it though.

  3. I'm a 21 year old male, but I have come to really like HSM. All of them. I'm sick of the crap on tv that's all about sex, sex, sex, and the HSM franchise has kept out of that. It's lovably cheesy, actually has character, very funny, and, what I love most, it's innocent.

  4. great movie, my daughter enjoys watching it almost everyday.
I think I even know most of the words to the songs in the movie.
    We sing along together!

  5. This used DVD was sent in great condition, exactly as described, and was in my mailbox in no time.

I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

  1. This item was purchased as a Christmas Gift not yet given. My 5 year old granddaughter loves High School Musical and told us it's not on free Tv anymore so she can't watch it. I'm sure she will enjoy this. It arrived in good condition and on time. I know nothing of the series and there was little info to aid my choice.

  2. This is a fun movie and destined to become a classic - great music and dancing! The two disc set is loaded with unexpected options.

  3. This is a good musical with good dancing. My 2 toddler kids dance whenever it's on.

  4. I want to know if High School Musical Remix Blu-Ray have this options?

    Dubbed or Subtitled.

    Thanks for your information.

Sure it can be corny, but why is that so bad. The people who hate it because of that need to lighten up and see the bright side of life and not take themselves so seriously.

  1. Swackhammer, owner of the amusement park planet Moron Mountain is desperate get new attractions and he decides that the Looney Tune characters would be perfect. He sends his diminutive underlings to get them to him, whether Bugs Bunny & Co. want to go or not. Well armed for their size, Bugs Bunny is forced to trick them into agreeing to a competition to determine their freedom. Taking advantage of their puny and stubby legged foes, the gang selects basketball for the surest chance of winning. However, the Nerdlucks turn the tables and steal the talents of leading professional basketball stars to become massive basketball bruisers known as the Monstars. In desperation, Bugs Bunny calls on the aid of Micheal Jordan, the Babe Ruth of Basketball, to help them have a chance at winning their freedom. Space Jam is a very enjoyable movie featuring probably the most popular cartoon characters ever. Space Jam has all the humor of the classic shorts that made us love Bugs, Daffy and all the rest. This is a must for children and adults.

  2. I could not find this in stores anywhere. I found it on Amazon for a very inexpensive price. The quality of the tape was good and the time it got to my address was really fast. Since it arrived my son watches it every day. The seller was correct in the description of the product. Will by from them at anytime.

  3. Really fun movie for my basketball fanatics. Combines my son's hero, Michael Jordan, with some of his favorite cartoon characters.

  4. I had fond memories of watching this movie several years ago and wanted to purchase it for my library. When I recently reviewed it, I used the subtitles which took a lot of the luster off the film. I have to rate is as mediocre and caution kids from using subtitles as the conversations are more adult than fun. Also, the story line was not as entertaining as my memory told me it was.

  5. i have seen this so many times and it never gets old. i think everyone has seen this and if not you have possibly been living under a rock. This is a classic in my opinion 5/5

  1. Hoosiers could be the greatest sports movie ever that's not named Raging Bull. Hackman does a great job selling Norman Dale as the disgraced college coach who moves to the middle of nowhere to escape his past. His coaching techniques and the basketball styles of the players are period appropriate and the ending, though predicatble, is still immensely enjoyable.

My only complaint reality wise is Hackman's ineffectiveness as a bench coach. For a guy who seems to be considered an Xs and Os guy, Norman Dale doesn't get into the nitty gritty. I think I would have done a little more zone to force the guys from South Bend to shoot from the outside. I also probably would have done a little more pick and roll and back cut a la Pete Carrill and Princeton.

  2. This is an uplifting movie based on a true story of how a small Indiana town developed a winning basketball team to become State Champions in 1954.

The theme is somewhat blase but the movie brings out the best in people and has that feeling of authenticity.

Gene Hackman plays the guy who has a checkered past, but has one more chance as a coach for a small Indiana high school basketball team. He shows grit and tenacity as the town is suspicious of outsiders, especially older ones seeking a new chance.

As coach he is bold and tenacious showing leadership and fairness. The boys see this and he even recruits a reclusive but top notch player.

Somehow it all comes down to the big Indiana State game. I found all the games exciting.

The characters show human sides, and the story is motivating.

Stars include Gene Hackman, Dennis Hopper (as the town drunk), Barbara Hershey and David Neidorf.

  3. I am a huge sports fan, played through College, went to school on an NCAA Scholarship, and although that doesn't qualify as a "film critic", I have lived the life at all levels(although PRO Ball escaped me after an injury).

When I watch a "sports movie", I believe I'm competent to "make the call". When you compare this film to "Fear Strikes Out", "Ali", "Field Of Dreams", "Brian's Song" and "Rudy", it holds up. If you compare it to the aforementioned films, all of them excellent, it is the only one to not just address personal triumphs, but is the only one to show triumphs of a small town, with all it's wort's, ideals, feeling of inadequacies, when to compared to the "monoliths" of the State. This film is truly an inspiring story for every small town. - It's David vs. Goliath - and with a single stone, a sling, and a "can-do" attitude, accomplish the impossible. The only reason I didn't rate this superbly acted film 5***** Stars is that I didn't cry, (teared up, whimpered), but didn't "bawl like a baby"). There's a lesson here.

  4. This 1986 film was on TV last night. It sounded familiar to me but I had never seen it. Even though I DVR'd it, I still had to wade through a whole bunch of commercials that appeared regularly at 15-minute intervals. But it was worth it because Hoosiers is a really good film.

The film is set in 1951 when life was simpler and towns were smaller. And this rural Indiana town was so small that they could barely get enough high school students for the basketball team. Gene Hackman is the new coach in town. He's a little old for the job but he has a past that he wants to forget. Barbara Hersey is a teacher who distrusts Hackman. Eventually, though, they do fall in love. Another great role is by Dennis Hopper, the town drunk who Hackman forces to become an assistant coach.

At first the men in the town all hate Hackman, but as the team starts to win, he wins them over. The ending is inevitable.

This is a "feel good" film. It's also predictable. But sometimes this just doesn't matter. I enjoyed the film and thought the performances were great.

  5. I find myself scratching my head and wondering why I NEVER SAW THIS MOVIE when it came out in 1986. "Retro Phoebe" is enthralled during opening scenes as she witnesses first one, then many classic automobiles cruising Indiana backroads. The action is set in the early 1950s and sets and costuming are very good and authentic. We are intrigued as Norm (Gene Hackman) comes to the small town of Hickory to take on a teaching and basketball coaching position at the high school. As he makes contact with the man who hired him (Sheb Wooley) we wonder about his mysterious past and why he has not been teaching or coaching in his recent history but has been a chief pettit officer in the Navy instead. There are many townspeople also curious about this and many including Myra (Barbara Hershey, assistant principal) are back-biting and rude to his face. The good people of Hickory are steeped in tradition, isolated, suspicious of outsiders and stuck in the rut of "our way or no way." They do not understand Norm's methods of tough love for his new team, nor do they see the wisdom of his psychological techniques: he kicks members off the team for insubordination and tells them not to come back until they are ready to play by his rules, he refuses to be bullied by town fathers and bars them from the locker room and gym, he does not actively recruit the dormant star player of past years, knowing that the young man must return on HIS OWN TERMS to be effective as a player, as he has gone through traumas and cannot be pushed. The team is so small that they don't even have enough players and one is very short, but effective as many short BB players can be by their ability to weave in and out of the larger players. Norm builds up a sense of pride in them and cooperation. He teaches them to play as a team instead of a bunch of individual independents. We cringe as Norm is kicked out of game after game by a biased referee. Enter "Shooter." Shooter is a basketball expert and father of one of the team members. He is a chronic alcoholic who lives in a shack in the woods, a source of constant embarassment to his son. Norm encourages him to clean himself up and be his "right hand man." Dennis Hopper plays this role in one of his most brilliant performances on screen. The town of Hickory has had it by now, with Norm and tries to get him ousted as coach.
This does not work and the team continues to improve and go on to tournament ball. Somehow they are able to make it to state. This reviewer is taking note of the tenseness of her own body, the tightening of muscles as she views the scenes of exciting basketball. My own High School basketball team had this same experience and I attended all of the exciting games even the ones in the state capitol. This is a wonderful movie about perserverance and the role of NORM is played to perfection by Mr. Hackman. In the end we see how Norm has such a kind heart not only for his team members but in helping the town see the error of their ways in judging others, including Shooter. A marvelous movie, I might say.

  1. Item was received quickly. It was in great condition. Bought it for my son, no complaints.

  2. The movie came in brand new with no scratches or anything but the dvd box did have a crack on the side but it was nothing serious.

  3. I ordered the Love & Basketball DVD from iNetVideo. The first new DVD I received was lose in the DVD case and got scratched during shipping. I emailed them and they mailed another new one to me asap. That's awesome customer service and I will do business with this company again.

  4. Eleven-year-old Quincy doesn't know what to make of Monica, a girl who can outplay any of the guys on the neighborhood basketball court. Soon he is infatuated with her and, much to his surprise, she is eager to become closer to him. Best friends all throughout the following school years, the pressure for each to be recruited by college basketball coaches brings them closer together and their love blooms beyond friendship. This movie shows the real love of basketball. Basketball is more than a sport and you could see that with this movie. This movie displays the hardships of becoming a basketball pro such as losing friends and lovers.

  5. It's a true statement that there are a lot of these kinds of love stories out there. This brand of movie is made almost every week, but there are few films that (for me at least) are able to transcend their own genre as well as `Love & Basketball'. Sure, there are avenues of this film that don't sit as well with me as others, but the bulk of this film is fantastic, and Sanaa Lathan's performance alone is well worth the price of admission.

Monica and Quincy grew up as neighbors. They have always had one of those quarreling sibling relationships, mostly due to their common interest; basketball. Quincy's father was a pro-ball player, and so his future seems predestined, while Monica's drive and dedication make her a better player, and an unlikely rival. As they grow up they stay friends, even if they are constantly at odds, until they realize that they are less like siblings and more like lovers. Basketball continues to divide them, as they split their focus and find that it is conquering them instead of them conquering it.

While much of the storyline feels rather `familiar', there is something special about this film.

For me, it is undeniably Sanaa Lathan. This girl is amazing, and this film marked the start of my personal love affair with her. She is not only physically stunning, but her talent as an actress is undeniable here. She is flawless as she balances Monica's life goals with her actual life, never taking away from her pained curiosity or her hearty dedication. The prom scene is especially memorable as her jealousies and insecurities are made subtly obvious. Her on-court scenes are filled with an intensity that only comes from a complete adoration of the game, and the strife she endures at the hands of her oppressive (albeit loving) mother is completely believable thanks to Lathan's remarkable understanding of her character.

    Oscar, you should be ashamed!

I'm less impressed with Omar Epps, but he has never really been anything more than a pretty face to me. I haven't really seen his talent but I understand why my sisters love him. He has a genuine quality in scenes, but mostly he seems to be playing a character instead of playing a person (if that makes sense to you).

A few `clichés' aside, `Love & Basketball' is an extremely good film that feels fresh and exciting and beautifully balances out the many aspects of the film that make it so wonderful. The script is rich enough (despite some generic relationship issues) to allow us to really get to know Monica and Quincy, on and off the court. Between their love life, home life and work life, `Love & Basketball' understands how to give each side of these characters a life all its own. Yes, the film is far more concerned with Monica than Quincy, and it shows, but that doesn't mean that Quincy's character becomes a stock character. This may be Monica's story, but Quincy is a BIG part of it.

Take it from someone who is not a fan of sports or really of sports based movies; this is a movie you really need to see!

  1. i liked this movie. it is entertaining. the main thrust of the movie is footage that demonstrates that lebron was a human highlight reel in high school. emphasis is also placed on the fact that he and his teammates were very close, having played together since their childhoods. lebron's father was not around and many of his friends came from broken families. his coaches and friends were his stable family. i'm very happy that the kids were successful but kids definitely pay a price when constant competition takes away from other important developmental experiences. the father's overbearing coaching style: insisting that his son be perfect really seemed to border on sadism but i understand that this is a byproduct of fierce competitive activities. i'm glad lebtron has become wealthy playing basketball. i hope that he has the wisdom and insight to use his wealth and influence to have a positive effect on the struggling black community. i hope black children understand that there are much better role models for them. you really wonder whether athletic super-stars understand that much of the source of their greatness comes from the one who gave them size and strength. i worry that many athletes fall into the trap of worshiping the work of their own hands. the coach said at one point in the movie that he realized that he was failing to teach his players character. nevertheless there isn't any evidence that he did this. just because they won a national high school title isn't evidence that they were shown the big picture and were given time to reflect on more important values that would help them be successful and fulfilled in the real world outside of the gym.

  2. A great movie to watch with the whole family. My son picked it off the local video store shelf, just stumbled upon it while looking for something to watch. He is a big Cav's and LeBron fan already, so he was happily surprised with his find. I am not a huge b-ball fan, at least not since I was a kid and followed the Buffalo Braves! Anyway, I was mesmerized. You couldn't fabricate a better story. We were all on the edges of our seats, and it is a documentary! Just wish I hadn't missed all this when it happened. Wow! What a fantastic, and inspirational tale. My boys have new heros, and they came from the hood in Akron! Thank you for making this film. Wonderful stuff. We are attending our first Cavs game on 4/6/10..better late than never!!

  3. Delivered 4 days later than promised "window of delivery" which caused this to be a belated birthday present.
    Very disappointed about that.

  4. The film documents the journey Lebron & his friends / teammates experience as they work towards achieving a national championsip. Very good to share with high school athletes.

  5. It tells the great story of a group of friends all from the same small city in Akron, Ohio that just happened to be very good basketball players that made it all the way thru high school playing together and just so happened to realize their dream along the way. It was not just about Lebron, but about the whole group. Highly recommended for any sports fan.
