4 comments about Minoura Mag-500L-R Trainer W/Remote " w/ Riser Block Red 138170.

  1. I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. His response after two work-outs was an enthusiastic thumbs-up! "It is quiet, sturdy, easy to assemble and works well." I'm happy I got it for him.

  2. Just set up the trainer 3 days ago. Easy to set up. Replaced my rear skewer with the one supplied with ease. Overall took about five minutes to set up. Fairly smooth and stable. Nice to have resistance control at your fingertips other than changing your gears. Good trainer for beginner or novice. Recommend buying a block for the front tire as the trainer does NOT come with one (regardless of what you read)!

  3. This trainer arrived quickly and in great condition. The setup was extra simple: just unfold the base, insert your bike, crank the handle to tighten, turn the knob to contact tire. The remote is especially helpful for increasing and decreasing resistance with the flick of a thumb. The noise level is moderate, a high hum that gets louder with increased speed and resistance, but even my kids don't complain when I'm pedaling fiercely and they're trying to watch a movie in the same room--as long as I turn up the TV volume. The base is a solid support, which has held up even to little kids trying to climb on and off a bike far too big for them. And the snazzy red color is fun and cheerful.

The only downside is the riser block, which did not arrive with the trainer and which I had to remind the company to send. I imagine that it is the cheapest type available and has a tendency to slide around on my wood floor. Still, it is effective for the purpose and is better than damaging a good book to elevate the front wheel. A foam sticker placed underneath should keep it from sliding around too much.

    Recommended accessories:
Definitely use a road bike tire, not a bumpy mountain bike tire, to minimize noise and tire wear. Definitely use a front wheel riser block with any trainer, since the trainers elevate the rear wheel by several inches. A cushy gel seat cover can help minimize saddle sores. A book caddy will come in handy for magazine browsing while riding. Enjoy!

  4. When the product arrived and I set it up to test it out for the first time, I soon discovered the metal rotor between the magnets was warped or bent and was could rub against the magnets. It could have happened during manufacturing or shipping. It was sent in the winter and the alternating hot and cold temperatures could have caused the warping. I was able to flatten the rotor because the roller mechanism is easy to disassemble and reassemble with the right tools. The roller was also slightly off-center and not level, but I ajusted those also. Finally, I needed to fine-tune the cable tention so I could use all seven levels of resistance.

  1. Hi. Elite trainers' Fluid technology is amazing, specially for someone buying a new trainer 10 years after purchasing his first one. I'll stick with this one despite the appeareance of the new Elite Cronos line which promises further improvements.

    Sincerely
    Rodrigo
