  1. After reading the reviews here I was a little skeptical, but being "handy", I thought I could make this unit work. I was right.

Aside from the items in the packaging I used these additional items: A roll of electrical tape, a carabiner, a utility knife, stud finder, socket set, drill.

My bag is a 100 lb Everlast.

    I did it like this:

    1. Use stud finder to locate a beam. Note: Stud finder kept going off when it touched my skin, but you may not have this problem.

    2. Cut away small rectangle of drywall on ceiling the size of the device.

    3. Use device to mark hole locations on beam, and pre-drill pilot holes into them to keep beam from splitting.

    4. Per instructions, assemble two pieces of unit with center pin, leaving some play in the screw/bolt for movement.

    5. Wrap horizontal screw in black electrical tape to keep bag chain from wearing out the screw. Put screw through assembly. Secure bolt.

    6. Loop the carabiner through the top of the chain/strap that supports the bag. This allows for easy setup/tear down if needed.

    7. Use a chair under your leg to balance the heavy bag on top of, clamp carabiner to horizontal screw.

    DONE!

  2. this product is great it is my basement as your reading this and is holding my 80 lb bag with ease. i would definitely recommend it.

  3. Fast shipping and good quality at the best prices. I've bought from Amazon many times and I am almost always completely satisfied with the product. They describe exactly what you'll be getting. This is a good mount for a heavy/ punching bag. It works well and easy installation (2 screws). Comes with everything you need. However you might want to put a locking nut on the bolt that holds the two halves together instead of the one they give you. I tightened it up, but I punched it loose and I just tightend it back up. This only happened once, I maybe just didnt tighten it up that great the first time. Still might be a good idea if you have this as a problem though. I used it on my 80 lb bag and it worked well for that. The screws they give you hold pretty good. It's a good mount.

  4. It will hold a bag up, but you could probably buy a couple bolts at any hardware store and create a mount just as good. Since this setup was cheap, I'm not complaining, but if it doesn't spin, I don't see the point of buying this.

I recommend spending $5 more and getting the Everlast Professional Swivel, which is more specifically designed for a punching bag.

  5. Yes, when you hit the bag it does spin (every heavy bag is going to spin unless you use a 4 point hanging system) and it will spin and eventually untighten the bolt at the top no matter how much you tighten it even with the locking washer in place. Period.

Solution: Buy a locking nut (it has nylon at the top that locks it in place) and use two nuts (the supplied one and the locking one) plus the locking washer.

Details: The supplied nut goes on first but don't thread it all the way down to the bracket. Leave some space for the thing to spin freely. Next, put on the locking washer supplied. Next, put on the locking nut and tighten all 3 together leaving space for the assembly to spin.

This will never come loose on it's own if the nuts are tightened properly since the space left means that there is no friction with the bracket.

Thanks to those mentioning the issue with the threads on the cross bolt tearing through the hook. I'm going to find another bolt that works or add a sleeve to the supplied bolt.

This hanger is fine (sturdy) but only giving it 3 stars since the hardware they supplied is not that well thought out. They should have supplied a metal sleeve for the cross bolt and the additional locking nut.

  1. Just a review of items bought. I have not installed as yet as I am wintering in Florida and will set up when I get home. All items look exactly what I wanted.

  2. First don't order it as a gift for someone in the household, unless you are going to be waiting every day for the delivery man, because it comes in the box with the picture plastered all over it. Also, you have to buy your own hardware, even for the initial installation...what comes with it is just too rinky dink.

  3. At first I was about to surrender, the manufacture on these mass created speed bags platforms are constructed inadequately. Since I couldn't manage to pay for one that is like the one at my fitness center I took an old solid door cut it at 30" instead of the 24" had my father in-law plane the round drum purchased four 4 inch screws, washers and lock washers now with what I had left of the door I cut into 4" x 20" put a piece of carpet on the wall to quiet the sound, bolted the wood on to the studs behind the carpet then continued to erect the platform. I also purchased the everlast professional chain link swivel which I used instead of the "plastic ball and hook swivel". I spent less than an extra thirty five bucks and have a solid, quiet professional looking platform! Which could have cost way more then what i paid!

  4. My 16 year old son is interested in boxing so I thought this might be a nice starter kit for him to practice with. The boxing gloves aren't that great, but they serve their purpose. The bag and platform are fine....I had enough sense to know it wouldn't come with screws and stuff, so we bought what we needed before installing it. Found a strong beam in the wall in the garage and it was up and ready to go in 20 minutes. He really enjoys using it (as does my husband) and so far, it appears to be of decent quality and perfect for what we wanted - a home speed bag set that wouldn't break the bank, but wouldn't break during use either.

  5. The description of this item does not tell you what sort of bag you will get. I bought this a few years ago and it had a plastic speed bag in it. The bag broke after only 2 or 3 hours of use. Find out what sort of bag is included before buying this. When I think about it maybe it is a good deal even without a leather speedbag. It provides you with the required hookup to start training. Just be ready to get a real leather speed bag right away. I attached 3/4 inch plywood to the drum to provide a better striking surface. Seems to work fine with that addition.

  1. I upgraded to this swivel about 3 months ago. After reading posts here I was curious to see how I would do with the upgrade, and have to say... I did fine.

It is certainly faster than the S-Hook that came on my TKO Heavy Bag Stand, but I have no problem with it.

Now I think I need to upgrade to a smaller bag and a better mount.

  2. This swivel is my first so I'm kind of bias but based on all the 4 and 5 star rave reviews I figured I'd try it. I sure am glad I did... as should you if you're thinking about it. The only catch is how to put on/ replace a bag... but look it up on the internet and you'll see it's easy... all you need is a pair of needle nose pliers.

  3. In my opinion this is the best swivel for the money. It is durable, easy to set up and works just great. Good buy.

  4. A great solid swivel. Just very loud. Sounds rickety even when in a nice fast groove with the bag.

  5. I bought this swivel because the one that came with my Everlast Speedbag Kit was worthless. it is a round moulded plastic ball with a metal hook screwed into it. Problem is, when you hit the speed bag a few times- the hook unscrews from the plastic ball- and the bag went flying!!!. Get this one- it works great. very easy to install- no problem. Worth the money. Trust me.

  1. This has a heavy-duty exterior sleeve and a bladder meant to be filled with water. I bought a 50 lb bag of "play sand" at the local hardware store and used that as ballast instead. This does a great job of damping the motion of the heavy bag as you work out. It's essential -- definitely buy this is you're looking at a heavy bag.

  2. THE BAG ATTACHMENT HOLDS THE PUNCHING BAG IN PLACE AS DESCRIBED SO IT'S NOT SPINNING AROUND.

  3. I have used this now for about two months, the bag still moves and that causes the double end attachment to slide and the cord that attaches twists. But it basically does what it is meant to do. I have mine filled with water, I might try sand next to see if that makes it harder to slide.

  1. when i recieved this punching bag platform the booklet and instructions were not in the box,the ring that held the bag on the swivel was bent , and one of the plastic handles that secure the platform together was broken. everlast finally sent me replacement parts but it was obvious that this was a used item. it was my first purchase on amason and probably my last.

  2. ONCE (INSTALLED) IS GREAT TAKES SOME WORK,BUT ITS WELL WORTH IT.IF U PLAN ON USE IN BASMENT FIRST CHECK CEILING HIGHT.ALL SAID I USE IT 4-5 TIMES A WEEK &LOVE IT!

  3. Great bag platform for the home gym!! I bought the "Elite" speedbag platform after reading the reviews and must say I'm glad I did. The Elite is a rock solid. You won't loose speed or rhythm to the movement of a flimsy frame or board. Mine came with Everlast's NEW style chrome plated Pro swivel that allows bag removal with the pulling of a simple cotter pin. (Not the hard to use old "Pro" style galvanized swivel with the chain link.) Coupled with a leather 4214 speed bag, this is one GREAT workout station!

I'd like to address some of the "issues" that that others have mentioned that might make you think twice about the Elite:

First, and obviously, you will need tools to assemble and install. A drill, drill bit, #2 Phillips head screw driver, tape measure, Torpedo (magnetic is a plus) level, and adjustable wrench will do the trick. These are all basic tools even if you live in an apt. If you don't already own these, you should... These tools will be easy to find if you don't want your own a tool kit.

Mounting Hardware: This unit comes with all the hardware needed EXCEPT the fasteners to mount the horizontal wood pieces to the wall. This is reasonable, since Everlast has no idea where you'll hang your unit. Why add to the cost of the unit by adding a bunch of un-needed hardware? - To mount through ½" drywall into wood studs, I used 4 ea - 5/16" x 4" Lag Screws, and washers (Cost about $2.00 total at Lowes), plus a longer drill bit to pre-drill the wall studs for the Lag Screws ($5.00 at Lowe's, but will go into my toolbox and be usable long after this project is done.) Lowe's sales folks can help you decide which is the best hardware for your application.

I usually like to span 3 studs when hanging stuff, too, but this kit is set-up to attach to two, at 16". This is absolutely not a problem, my platform does not move what so ever.

Ceiling Height: I'm 6'1 and set mine about 4 inches down from an 8ft ceiling. I'm using the top setting, (bottom of the bag about mid nose height) so if you are much taller, you may want to hang a little higher.

Instructions: It really doesn't need any... There are only 8 separate parts, plus fasteners. A simple look at the front of the box (or the Amazon product photo) will show you how every thing assembles. Just start by figuring how high your top wood needs to be and work your way down. Keep things plumb and level. Took my son and I about 1.5 hours to install, and we were clowning around much of the time.

All in all, this is the perfect set-up for my family and friends. I highly recommend this unit!

  4. This is a great product for those who want more than the beginner speed bag set; a sturdy structure and decent swivel allow for quicker response. As other reviews have noted, the assembly instructions are poor at best. There are many misprints (i.e. "bag" bolts), but nothing that a quick read-through prior to assembly can't decipher. Only recommendation is to make sure to measure the height for installation prior to drilling holes. I know this sounds obvious but I had to put the support rods higher than anticipated (I am 6 feet tall) - so as the saying goes - "measure twice - cut (or drill) once."

  5. Let me just start off by saying that this is not a bad platform at all. It looks great on my wall. Having said that, I did have to spend an extra $20 at the hardware store today so I could mount the thing. The set came with a bolt and screw stripped, no mounting hardware (i knew that when i bought it, though), and one very important piece that i ended up having to bore out because it didn't fit what it was supposed to. Lots of headaches with this thing, but when it's all said and done, it doesn't look half bad. I have yet to put the bag on it, i am a little skeptical of how it will hold up, though. In the end, you get what you pay for.

  1. Installation wasn't too hard, but you'll need 2 people...one to hold the platform and the other to screw in the 3" lag bolts. It's a little noisy when hitting the bag, much more so than the $2-300 speed bags...but the price is good so its acceptable. What isn't acceptable is that the height adjustment screws don't keep the platform from sliding up and down the track when you hit the bag. I've tightened them as much as I can and they still don't hold it in place. Of course you could rig something up to stop it from moving..but that takes away the functionality of it being adjustable in the first place.

  2. I really am pleased to have the speed bag and platform to incorporate into my workouts. The price through Amazon.com was fantastic, as far as my research had shown.

  3. This is a very small punching bag, but provides an excellent workout. It is very easy to set up and doesn't take up much space in a room. It has been holding up well with lots of use.

  4. Love it. I can tell you how satisified I am with this purchase. Easy to install and use. I've gotten hours of enjoyment working on speed and technique, it's very addictive.

  5. Great product for the value. Better than Everlast basic platform.

  1. Got the stand for my husband for christmas, shipping was quick, product in excellent condition, great quality. Very satisfied. Thanks.

  2. Bought this for my 200 lb. husband, and he loves it. It fit our space perfectly, without taking up a huge amount of room, and it doesn't move around with punching. He hasn't had any problems with it moving.

  3. I had read mixed reviews on this item but decided to take the chance on it and purchased it 6 weeks ago. I am glad I did. The package arrived on time, well packaged and all of the parts there. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Assembly went very quickly.
The main reason I purchased this is it is made with square tubing instead of round. This gives you a stronger stand than the cheap 'swing set' type pipe and the square tubing lays flat on the floor not just touching at one point as with the round pipe stands.
Also it has a wider 4-point weight footprint for more stability. The commonly found 3-pt footprint made for less stability on the backside, unless you limit your range of motion around the bag, which causes wobble even with weights and sandbags. Wider footprint does not mead less usable bag access. You are still able to use for punches and kicks covering about a range of 260 degrees of the unit. You will still need to use bags of sand to stabilize the unit as we have found no amateur stand that weights alone will hold down. But bags of sand are cheap at any Home Depot or Lowe's building center.
My grandson, 10, uses a 40 lb bag with double-ended tie downs for his TaeKwonDo practice. My son uses an 80 lb bag for his. The adjustment for the height is easily done for grandson using the speedbag. We have found this unit to be more functional than others we have had in the past (round pipes bent on 2 others within a month). We are well pleased.

  4. I purchased this as a gift for someone along with a bag. He has made no complaints and loves the item. That is the best I can tell you about this item.

  5. I ordered this item showed in the pic with four legs but I end up getting the three support legged one, I decided to keep the wrong item because the seller wasn't very supportive and clueless about the items they have. The only reason I gave a two even thou they sent the wrong item that I was kinda of satified with the one they sent me.
