- I was very excited when I received my new bike, especially after receiving the first one damaged in shipping. After it was put together,I was very dissapointed that when sitting on it with the seat at its closest position to the pedals, my feet barely touch the pads. So I would not recommend this bike for people shorter than 5'3". Didn't want to take it apart and ship it back so I now put a big pillow behind the seat so I am now sitting closer on the seat. It is not the most comfortable but it works for me. I still gave a 4 star because the programs are easy to use and this is a great bike for anyone over 5'3"

- This bike was fairly simple to put together. The computer is very basic, and the bike has very minimal features. The bike is very quiet. If you are looking for a no frills, low-impact workout this is a good option.
- fairly easy to put together, easy to use, seat back is angled a bit much for me but is usable in that position.

5 comments about Mini Exercise Bike.
- I love my mini-bike! My gym closed a couple of months ago for renovations and i did not want to buy an expensive home gym. This quality Brookstone product (I love how they think of solutions I would never think of) meets my needs completely! I now bike a lot more because it is so convenient, I even take it to work ; it is really quiet and does not disturn others...Thanks Brookstone!
- I bought one of the Brookstone mini-exercise bikes when it was still priced at $99.00 (on February 1, 2007), based on two positive reviews that were posted at that time. Initially, I was impressed by the prompt delivery of the product but immediately discovered the bike was not factory assembled correctly. Instead of a left- and right-hand crank arm, my exercise bike has two right hand crank arms. This may seem trivial until you realize that the cranks are suppose to be threaded in opposite directions to prevent the pedals from coming unscrewed during use.
I contacted Brookstone Customer Service to request a replacement part (I needed two right-hand pedals) the evening I received the shipment. I had to place follow-up calls each week for six weeks until finally receiving the replacement pedal. When, at one point, I mentioned simply returning the exercise bike, the customer service rep. indicated that approval would be needed from higher up the food chain because--as I waited for the new part--I'd had the bike in my possession past the 30-day return policy!
With the new pedal finally in place, I immediately tried out the bike and was disappointed (though, unfortunately, not surprised) that the overall construction feels very flimsy under foot. The mini-bike is quite noisy and so far, I've found no floor surface that keeps it reliably stable during use--either on a rug or on linoleum. As a result, I have to back it up against a desk, file cabinet, or bookcase to use.
This product has been a huge disappointment and I would strongly encourage people interested in purchasing a small exercise bike to please not waste their money--even at the reduced price--on this product.
- I was looking forward to the arrival of this bike so much, I thought it was going to be a great way to burn calories while doing just about anything. But when I tried it I discovered 2 things. First off your legs have to be at a 90 degree angle in order to pedal without it moving all over the place (which means you have to have an adjustable office chair or put phone books on a normal one). And when I finally get settled on it no matter how hard of a setting it's on it only burns about a calorie a minute.
This bike might be great for arm workouts because it doesn't move as much on the table and it can offer a lot of resistance (though I only tried it for a few minutes) but definitely not for your legs.
- Reviews on this item looked great, so I decided to try it. The outcome? I am disappointed, though the product is tolerable considering the price. The biggest problem is that the machine is not stable--when I bike on it, it moves around following my feet movement. So I have to put my hands on it to keep it in place and get some excercise. If I raise the resistance level, it becomes almost unusable because of the movement. (Maybe this is more so because I have hardwood flooring at home, and it might not move as much on a carpet. I could not try, since on my rather small carpet, the machine moved WITH the carpet. If you reduce the resistance level, it does not move around too bad--just up and down a bit with my feet.) In addition, the pedal is not that well made, feeling heavy and making small sound.
Well, considering the price, I thought I could reduce the resistance level and tolerate the annoying movement and uncomfortable feeling of the pedals. But I found that I am not using it after a few tries, mostly due to the inconvenience. I simply cannot enjoy it. So I am returning it.
I do not recommend this product. Especially if you want some real exercise, consider other options. But if you are ok with slow pedaling at a low resistance level, you might not have much complaint.
I am not happy b/c the shipping cost will be quite high, given the product weight. The service representative wasn't very kind either, though again, tolerable.
- the bike meets my expectations. It is well built and I get a good work
out on it while parked in my over the road tractor trailer. It fits between the bunk and the gear shift just fine. I use a folding chair to
sit on. It's like riding a tricycle as compared to a bicycle when comparing it to a standard sized stationary bicycle. I like it a lot.

- In short, this item does not ship well. Our first shipment was in such bad shape we should have taken a video of it and posted it on YouTube. The box was severely damaged and parts of the bike were sticking out at weird angles. The first thing the UPS person said was, "you probably want to refuse this." And we did. Amazon was great at shipping out another bike, but even that shipment was delivered in very questionable shape. At 130 pounds, this was no light shipment. After unpacking the bike is in surprisingly good shape. A couple slight blemishes, but nothing major so far. The problem here is that this is very heavy, and the box/shipping materials are not up to the job. I don't see how this bike can be shipped via UPS without any damage.
Oh, and because this is over $400, Amazon will set up a signature requirement with UPS, so you have to be at home to take delivery.
There are a couple things not included that you'll need to assemble the bike. 1) an adjustable wrench in addition to the wrench they supply, 2) Some grease used as anti-seize, 3) Schwinn brake bad lube. I had the first two, but don't know what the third is, or where to get it. It would have been nice to have two little packages of grease and lube included with a $1000 bike.
I'll update the review with comments on the functionality of the bike after we've used it for a couple weeks.
2 stars because this is basically unshipable without a high probability of damage.
- I purchased this Schwinn IC Elite Indoor Cycling Exercise Bike after a lot of research and was still apprehensive. I have added look style toe clips for a more realistic experience. Can't beat it for winters, bad weather, and early mornings before work. After 3 yrs I've gotten a lot of use out of it. It provides a great workout. For some odd reason I still feel like it would like some panel reading on distance traveled, but for now I just watch soccer and bike for an hour.
- I ordered this bike and after three days of staring at order status of "This order is being readied for shipping and cannot be canceled" I emailed and asked why it was taking so long. Amazon canceled my order and I was forced to get in back of the line again. Amazon has truly gone downhill. I have been a customer for over 5 years and every time I place an order the service gets worse and worse. My advice is that you buy this bike somewhere else
- Great bike. Why deal with the gym when you can ride at home?
- I knew I would like the bike, as I've been using an identical one at the local gym. Ordering and delivery was fast and painless. Assembly was simple. Then I was disappointed to find severe vibration at low speed, which I thought might be the same as that noted by a previous reviewer (flywheel problem). The bike was useable, but clearly not right.
I contacted Schwinn directly, who were helpful, but did not seem all that knowledgeable about the bike or its problems. They immediately offered to set up a tech visit to fix it, but called back the next day to say that they have no techs in this area (New Mexico), and that the only solution was to return it to Amazon. I said I'd see if I could diagnose the problem first, which, not surprisingly, they thought was just fine.
After removing the chain guard, the problem was obvious. The chain was so tight I'm surprised it hadn't snapped. Poor quality control on the assembly line. Adjustment of chain tension at the flywheel end is fairly easy, and cured the vibration. Hopefully there will be no more problems.
CONCLUSIONS: These are great spin bikes, and seem well made, but quality control may be an issue. One of two IC Elites at the local gym had a warped flywheel on delivery - a manufacturing rather than assembly fault presumably. In contrast, ten older Schwinns have had few problems. The lack of any service availability here makes me wonder how easy it will be to get warranty work done if needed. I guess I should ask.

- This machine is quiet and sturdy. I am well above the weight limit (or I assume I am for fear of actually LOOKING at a scale any time this decade) and it has worked like a charm. Cozy seat and good adjustability. The computer is basic at best, but I don't really need something capable of interfacing with the NASA space monitor to get my workout done. This is a good buy at a good price! I say go. Be ware, though, the sellers are rude and not exactly on top of things. This may end up affecting your experience. They waited a month to take the money out of my account, so I wasn't prepared for it when it happened. That sucked.

- I don't know if Cateye has updated their product, but the steering mechanism that tells the controller when you are turning broke on both of the game bikes we bought after only 2 months use. And it was only being used like twice a week. We've now had the bikes for 2 years. The peddling still works, and nothing else has broken, so as a normal exersize bike, it's okay. But for gaming on it, those parts broke. We found out it was easier just to play on it with out having it hooked up to a controller. So, you might as well just buy a normal exercise bike.
