  1. I give this four stars cuz you have to take time to adjust it to workout both sides of yor legs (quads, hamstings). And its a bit wobbly. But you just add standard weights and you get a decent weight workout without the trip 2 the gym. The machine cost like $350, not bad. If you want perfection in your workout equipment this machine is not for you, but if you dont mind, than you'll be satisfied.

  1. I love my mini-bike! My gym closed a couple of months ago for renovations and i did not want to buy an expensive home gym. This quality Brookstone product (I love how they think of solutions I would never think of) meets my needs completely! I now bike a lot more because it is so convenient, I even take it to work ; it is really quiet and does not disturn others...Thanks Brookstone!

  2. I bought one of the Brookstone mini-exercise bikes when it was still priced at $99.00 (on February 1, 2007), based on two positive reviews that were posted at that time. Initially, I was impressed by the prompt delivery of the product but immediately discovered the bike was not factory assembled correctly. Instead of a left- and right-hand crank arm, my exercise bike has two right hand crank arms. This may seem trivial until you realize that the cranks are suppose to be threaded in opposite directions to prevent the pedals from coming unscrewed during use.

I contacted Brookstone Customer Service to request a replacement part (I needed two right-hand pedals) the evening I received the shipment. I had to place follow-up calls each week for six weeks until finally receiving the replacement pedal. When, at one point, I mentioned simply returning the exercise bike, the customer service rep. indicated that approval would be needed from higher up the food chain because--as I waited for the new part--I'd had the bike in my possession past the 30-day return policy!

With the new pedal finally in place, I immediately tried out the bike and was disappointed (though, unfortunately, not surprised) that the overall construction feels very flimsy under foot. The mini-bike is quite noisy and so far, I've found no floor surface that keeps it reliably stable during use--either on a rug or on linoleum. As a result, I have to back it up against a desk, file cabinet, or bookcase to use.

This product has been a huge disappointment and I would strongly encourage people interested in purchasing a small exercise bike to please not waste their money--even at the reduced price--on this product.

  3. I was looking forward to the arrival of this bike so much, I thought it was going to be a great way to burn calories while doing just about anything. But when I tried it I discovered 2 things. First off your legs have to be at a 90 degree angle in order to pedal without it moving all over the place (which means you have to have an adjustable office chair or put phone books on a normal one). And when I finally get settled on it no matter how hard of a setting it's on it only burns about a calorie a minute.

This bike might be great for arm workouts because it doesn't move as much on the table and it can offer a lot of resistance (though I only tried it for a few minutes) but definitely not for your legs.

  4. Reviews on this item looked great, so I decided to try it. The outcome? I am disappointed, though the product is tolerable considering the price. The biggest problem is that the machine is not stable--when I bike on it, it moves around following my feet movement. So I have to put my hands on it to keep it in place and get some excercise. If I raise the resistance level, it becomes almost unusable because of the movement. (Maybe this is more so because I have hardwood flooring at home, and it might not move as much on a carpet. I could not try, since on my rather small carpet, the machine moved WITH the carpet. If you reduce the resistance level, it does not move around too bad--just up and down a bit with my feet.) In addition, the pedal is not that well made, feeling heavy and making small sound.

Well, considering the price, I thought I could reduce the resistance level and tolerate the annoying movement and uncomfortable feeling of the pedals. But I found that I am not using it after a few tries, mostly due to the inconvenience. I simply cannot enjoy it. So I am returning it.

I do not recommend this product. Especially if you want some real exercise, consider other options. But if you are ok with slow pedaling at a low resistance level, you might not have much complaint.

I am not happy b/c the shipping cost will be quite high, given the product weight. The service representative wasn't very kind either, though again, tolerable.

  5. the bike meets my expectations. It is well built and I get a good work
out on it while parked in my over the road tractor trailer. It fits between the bunk and the gear shift just fine. I use a folding chair to
sit on. It's like riding a tricycle as compared to a bicycle when comparing it to a standard sized stationary bicycle. I like it a lot.

  1. The bike is very good for very light exercise. I increased the resistence, and within 10 minutes the rubber got burned, and right now I am using it without resistence.
    Need a little more sturdiness.

  2. Horrible product. I agree with the other reviewer, if I could have gave it 0 stars I would have. Mine not only was light weight, the pedals actually could only be attached backward-I will never buy another product from this company. I couldn't even sell it at a yard sale.

  3. This was probably the worst product I ever bought on-line. It is so light it bounces all over when you try to use it. I would actually give it a 0 star rating if that were possible.

  1. This product is very wobbly and doesn't work very well. After five minutes of use, washers come off, screws fall out and the legs start to come off. The digital monitor doesn't work either -- it didn't record steps or heart rate. I probably should have realized that a $200 fitness machine was too good to be true!

  1. Over all I am very pleased with this bike. The ride is quiet and smooth. The handle bars are smooth enough that my hands don't hurt from the grip. Really, my only complaint would be the range in the resistance. It's has a muddy mid-range. The heavy resistance is great, and it comes off easily, there just isn't very much room in the middle ground.

  1. I bought this bike from amazon about a year ago and it has held up really good. But after a year of use I found that there a few things this bike is lacking. 1) The seat is way too hard. It took me (actually my butt) almost a month to get used to the seat. 2) The handle bars. They are positioned so that the only way to use them is if you lean all the way forward with your head down like you were cutting into the wind. Theres no halfway where you can lean forward a little and just use them for a little support. If they fixed these 2 minor issues this bike would be perfect. It rides real smooth and made pretty tough. The price tag is pretty high on this and would not recommend for the casual user. If your really into spinning/biking or just filthy rich this bike is made for you otherwise look for an exercise that has a weighted fly wheel for a cheap version of this.

  2. After years of indoor cycling on schwinns at multiple gyms, and after trying out the other two Schwinn models offered by Amazon (SR and Pro), I opted for the Evolution in part because the SR felt a little rickety at the local fitness shop, and I figure I'd pay a hundred or so more dollars to get a perfect ride.

Amazon was terrific--it only took three days to get here, and since I have Amazon prime, shipping was free. The only piece of advice I have for folks ordering this or any other model is that you follow--to the letter--ever word of the post-assembly advice.

In my manual the most important text box is on page 5, titled "Prior to first using the Schwinn Evolution bike it is a good idea to follow these initial set up steps." Basically these tell you to soak the brake pads in special lube which is of course not included with the bike. (Schwinn really ought to think about tossing in a sample pack for set-up, because this is so important.)

I bought a silicon spray lube at Lowes. (Note: don't use wipe on teflon lube; it makes matters worse.) The other main part is the setting of the springs. This step requires you to simply adjust the resistance to its tightest possible setting. I left mine there over night, and that made a world of difference.

Because I didn't perform these steps immediately, I had real problems turning the cranks. With the resistance all the way off, I still had difficulty pedaling, and I couldn't even finish a workout. But once I completed these steps, the bike works perfectly. Schwinn should really think about changing the language of that text box from "it is a good idea to follow these initial set up steps" to: You must complete these steps for optimal performance.

Furthermore, while the bike is very well packaged, it included very little information about maintaining the bike. But there is a whole pamphlet on how and why to exercise, which I found useless (though others might like that). Schwinn should really reconsider revising the instructions that ship with the bike.
