  1. I'm 6'4" 265lbs. Wanting the very best elliptical I narrowed my search to Precor and the Life Fitness X7 & Club models. Testing the Precor models I found the incline ramp, even at it's lowest settting, put a little too much stress on my knees, not too bad but worried what years of working out like that would do to me in the end. So then it came down to the X7/Advanced or the Club model. I was worried the Club's fixed 18" stride might be to short for me so I was interested in the X7 which adjusts from 18" to 24". I found on the X7 anything over 18" I started to lean forward in a hunched over position, longer the stride the worse it got so the X7 was definitely out. The Club model was a perfect fit for me so I bought it and I'm very happy with it. I did get it at a local store. The X7 had the advantage of a little better console I thought being an lcd as opposed to the Club's led readout. The X7 was also completely silent while the Club had just a little bit of a whine noise while in use but nothing too loud you'd notice once the radio or tv is on.

  1. I ordered this elliptical because of the positive rating it was given on CR. The price on Amazon was the best around by at least $200 and with free shipping, it was a no-brainer. The machine seems pretty sturdy and well-made and was easy for me to assemble. I've enjoyed many workouts on it and I'm sure I will enjoy many more. The different programs keep it interesting and I can continue to increase intensity as I get into better shape.

I've had the machine over a year now and I'm happy with it. It does squeak sometimes, but that is easily fixed with a spray of silicone lubricant that is about $3 a can at any home improvement store. The only other negative thing I could possibly say about the machine is that the calorie count is way off. It says that I burn over 1,200 calories a workout when in reality, I've only burned about 300.

The positives outweigh the negatives by far with this machine. It's been a year and I'm still very satisfied with my purchase.

  2. The elliptical is my favorite machine at the gym. I wanted to have one at home so it would be more convenient to use. But, I was concerned it would feel cheap or unstable. I have been very pleased with this purchase. The machine was fairly easy to assemble and feels sturdy while in use.

  3. I very seldom review products, but this one has been such a letdown I felt obligated to let others know my experience. I bought this because of a Consumer Reports recommendation and although I've had very good luck with their recommendations in the past, they missed it on this one. Without boring you with a bunch of detail I can sum it up with 200 dollars in repairs within the year. My recommendation would be if you just want an elliptical to hang clothes on, this will work fine, but if you want use it a couple times a week look elsewhere like Sole (my sole treadmill is fantastic). Schwinn used to make good stuff, but now have slipped to the quality of what you'll find at discount retail stores. It'll just take a few more years until word gets out that Schwinn quality is no more and the brand name will be destroyed. Right now they are just using the brand and selling junk. That's too bad. I suggest spending a little more for a good elliptical instead of giving a little less and then having to be troubled with breakdowns that when finished will put you right at the price of a good machine.

  4. I've had it for a month now, & have no complaints. It's very quiet, which is great for me since I work out late night. It was a little tricky to put together, & I did need someone stronger & taller than me to help put it together. All & all, very satisfied!

  5. Other than some misleading assembly directions, I am very satisfied. This is a great machine. It is silent, smooth and works well. Assembly time was about two and a half hours, but that included unpacking time and reading the directions a couple of times before starting.

There are two washers that are preloaded now, and the directions don't reflect this. So I loaded the washers in step 4, as directed. When I got to step 5, I was short two washers. Had to call Schwinn and they explained this to me. Had to take the machine partially apart again, remove the two washers from step 4, and use them in step 5.

It is really smooth and silent. I did not use any additional grease or lubricant, as some people have. I have used it for three weeks now, maybe 15-20 times. I really like it.

  1. I've had this for about 5 years. It's simple and easy to use, and is fantastic as far as an aerobic workout. But it IS noisy and I've had to oil it constantly. I listen to my ipod and can tune out most of the squeaking, but it wakes up my kids in the room above as well as my spouse upstairs.

  2. I really like this elliptical strider. Set up was easy. The gliding motion is very smooth and quiet. It is a light-weight piece of equipment. There are no cables holding the feet rests on the machine that can twist or break: The metal pieces used on this machine are much sturdier.

  3. After reviewing a number of inexpensive elliptical trainers, I chose this one because it had post extensions to the legs versus wire. Plus, I didn't feel that I was paying extra for some guy's name. The online buying process was simple and painless. The only complaint that I have is the tracking capability. Amazon only gave a date range for delivery, whereas many other web stores will actually let you track your package with UPS/FedEx etc. Regardless, my package did arrive in the middle of the date range given.

The unit was completely assembled in the package, and took about five minutes to set up in my room. The monitor needs to be plugged in, and batteries installed. The unit itself is fairly sturdy. I've had it three weeks now, and I've used it everyday for 20-40 minutes as part of my overall workout. This elliptical isn't going to be a "get thin quick" unit, so if that is what you are looking for I wouldn't suggest buying it. I bought it because I have bad knees, and research said that elliptical trainers were a better overall (less body stress) workout. I still have pain in my knees, but far less than when I run.

This unit does not have any resistance to it, so the type of workout you get depends on your rhythm. I ALWAYS workout to music which helps set a cadence. I begin with a nice building pace with one song, then the second song gives me a stronger pace (more beats per minute), the third song a more steady pace (fewer beats per minute), then stronger and so on in an alternating pattern. My last song of the playlist is the fastest and about seven minutes long so I end my workout real strong. I have noticed with this set up that my cardio is getting better, as I am less winded when doing the other activities I do. Again, you will only get out of this unit what you put into it.

My only complaints are these; 1) The monitor is pretty cheesy. It works, but the casing is cheap and kept falling apart so I had to strap it together. Because I workout to music to keep my timing, the monitor isn't a huge deal for me. I really only keep it to gauge my distance. The batteries died about a week after I got it, as well. I only mention this because it's a review; it wasn't something that bothered me specifically. 2) After a week I took apart the unit at each moving joint and oiled it because of friction noise. The unit moved fine, but friction at the joints was making a lot of noise and I'm bothered by that sort of thing. Most companies don't lubricate joints like this very well, so I fixed it on my own. My perspective is this - any unit with moving parts is eventually going to need some sort of maintenance, whether the unit is $200 or $2000. For me, oiling noisy joints isn't enough for me to say this unit isn't worth buying.

For me, money is tight but I wanted a cardio workout to go with my weight training. I feel I get a lot out of this unit because of the work I put into it. If this sounds like a commitment you can make, and you can't afford to really spend more, this is a great unit for you.

  4. This is a nifty, inexpensive machine. It came assembled! One knob was broken in shipping and the company replaced it in a very timely manner with no hassle. The machine is easy to use and takes up little space. It is quiet in use and seems to perform what level of exercise we were looking for. Nice bargin!

  5. I ordered this product with high hopes and determined plans. I received a product that is impossible to assemble, due to assembly instructions that seem to be written by monkeys. There is a page and a half of assembly instructions - this product really should have more like four pages. When I called the company's customer service line, they were incredibly rude and non helpful, suggesting that I was out of luck and that there was something wrong with me for not being able to assemble the product. I've contacted Amazon to return this product immediately.

  1. I use it three times a week along with weights... I like the simplicity when going from one exercise set to another... I have already ordered the 310 upgrade and will most likely need to 410 upgrade soon...

Works great when integrating it with normal weight lifting...
