  1. Please ignore the other user's comment about the book - it DOES have all of the chord diagrams in it, just like all the other books had. It also includes the bee side Garlands, which is beautiful, and some wonderful artwork. A beautiful music book for a beautiful album - I recommend it to any Tori fan, whether you play piano, guitar, or nothing at all.

  2. The first reviewer may as well complain about not being able to find guitar tablature for Chopin. It's Tori Amos; I think it's reasonable to assume the music will be written for piano. Still, as in all the other books, the chords are included. I couldn't wait for this book--"Scarlet's Walk" was amazing, but "The Beekeeper" has more songs that I actually want to play myself.

  1. definately, if you liked the cd, you were constantly thinking" i wish i could play like that." Definately a good source to learn how to play the music that drives you.

  2. All of her music is touching, and this especially so. She is talented both with the composition and the performance, and this is a spendid showpice of her gifts.

  3. Tori Amos is a magnificent piano goddess. I try to play like her all of the time, but I feel like Iam her when I play my piano.
Since I never had the chance to see her in concert I always g online to watch her there. She is amazing. Several years ago at one of my 8th grade talent shows my friend performed "Hey Jupiter" by her. Oh my god she sound just like her. She had excellent props for her performance.
Thats why Iam such a big fan of her music, all for knowing, she plays piano and sings acapella.

  4. Hmmmmm, tricksy this one. Tori Amos makes me sick. I took piano lessons for like three years and quit because I hated it. But, when you're ten years old and your fat, evil piano teacher slams your finger onto a key yelling "C!C!C!C!C!" when you accidentally played a D, it kind of has a way of ruining the magic of the moment. (She also made luscious smelling cookies all the time, and we had to sit there in our after school hunger and watch as she consumed them one by one) Anyway, Tori "I was playing better piano than you when I was two" Amos was the reason I decided to forget the tyrant Mrs. Evers and take up piano again. I struggle with some things in this book, but I retained enough piano knowledge to get through the majority of her songs. Horses is fun to play, so is the Doughnut Song. Marianne is pretty close to the CD (for all simplified purposes), nothing you can't listen to the song and add to. I have been disappointed with Not the Red Baron, though, because it just doesn't sound right. This book is also generally kind of hard. That could be because I'm not a great piano player and just can't get the flow rght. I would actually suggest getting the Anthology, as it is more simplified and has more variety. The simplification of the transcription in such books can be good and bad, but nothing you can't add to. I think it is better to have it easier to begin with, instead of so complex that it is intimidating. Come on, Tori's music is intimidating enough! For that reason I would suggest the Anthology over this book, at least to start with. Besides, there is so much more to play in it. If you get stuck or discouraged, there are many other songs to play that will boost your confidence, as opposed to this book which is all music from one CD, and one of the stranger Tori CDs at that. I give this book 3.5 stars, and suggest the Anthology. However, if you're just really into Pele and want to play some of the songs, go for it. If all you can do is read and play notes, you can do it. Be confident. Practice one song (Horses!) until you're lost in playing it. Then move on to another (Father Lucifer!). If you can't figure out how it is supposed to sound, put the cd on and listen to that part. Improv if you must! Just don't quit! Before long you'll be throwing your own private piano concert, lost for hours in ethereal Toryland. It's nice to visit her world for a while.

  5. Great Transcription. Probably the best of all the Tori sheet music books for accuracy. It's been discontinued because there is a picture of Tori suckling a piglet in a rocking chair, so if you get your hands on it it's a collector's item now. Treat it well!

  1. If your a "Tori Junkie" like myself you know well that she has tons of singles out there. This book is a great reference if your into collecting singles. It's a must have for any true Tori Fan

  2. If you're going to buy just one of the Tori Amos sheet books, this is definently the one you are looking for. All Tori singles from "Little Earthquakes" to "From the choirgirl Hotel".
I'm not a good piano player, so actually I'm not able to play any of the songs -yet. The closest I can get is "china".
One of my friends, however is a great Piano player so I can tell that some of the songs are simplified, for example Cornflake Girl; but that is very understandable...no one can play the piano like Tori. The interpretions however are very good and I would definently recommend it; both if you are a great piano player or just interested in music.

  1. This is an amazing book featuring the sheet music for each song from Tori's latest CD "To Venus And Back". The book includes all 11 studio songs (Bliss, Juarez, Concertina, Glory Of The 80's, Lust, Suede, Josephine, Riot Poof, Datura, Spring Haze and 1000 Oceans) and studio versions of the 13 live tracks on the album (Precious Things, Cruel, Cornflake Girl, Bells For Her, Girl, Cooling Mr. Zebra, Cloud On My Tongue, Sugar, Little Earthquakes, Space Dog, The Waitress and Purple People). A must have for any musical Toriphile.

  3. some of the music in this book is wonderfully transcripted, but then sometimes it is not. it depends on how much the music for the song was centered around the piano. great transcription of Lust, Concertina, Spring Haze, 1,000 Oceans, and some others. I was disappointed with Riot Poof and a couple of other songs though it's ok if you are good at improvising. this is a much better book than from the choirgirl hotel, though there is an excellent version of Jackie's Strength in that.

  4. Ah, what can I say? Along with Tori, Marilyn Manson and Mozart are my favorite artists... but Tori is starting to really outshine everyone else. There are songs in here that absolutely move me, songs like "Sugar," and then you have songs like Cornflake Girl, which are very danceable.

This book has every song on the CD- incliding live tracks. They are, for the most part, well-transcripted, with the exception of Cornflake Girl's bass lines. This can, however, be corrected with some inprov.

There are full size reproductions of the photos included in the CD, which is nice.

Tori's musical style has changed with this record, incorporating a more electronic, spacey feel. Even still, the emotion is the first thing one notices. Her music is so powerful and outstandingly done that this book has really truly been one of the most enjoyable things I've come across in recent memory.

What can I say? I love her, I love her music. Buy the book, play along with the stereo, enjoy!

  5. I was pretty happy with the songbook in general. There are a lot of songs and for the price that is marked it's a VERY good deal. The only thing I was disappointed is that the songs in the live section are not the way she plays live at all. Just a reprint from the original versions. As far as the rest, they're very well transcribed. Very good for the price.

  1. I am not a musican, but I am a Tori fan. I just love to collect. I highly recommend this book.

  2. I love to play piano and I was thrilled to get Tori's book of sheet music. However I was disappointed to see that a lot of the piano music had been modified from her original work. Many arrangements of popular music tend to incorporate the vocals and other instruments into the piano piece (in order to hear the melody or another aspect of the song) and this is the case with these arrangements too. Although sometimes I agree that doing this may make the piece sound better when played alone (without vocals or other instruments) I wish they would have note-for-note what is actually in the original version of Tori's songs.

  3. I have been teaching myself piano for about 8 or 9 months, so am relatively inexperienced; thus, i expected i wouldn't be able to play anything in this book, and had ordered it for future use. I was wrong, however, and am actually able to play bits and pieces of several songs. 'Winter' is pretty simple, though, for me, the accompaniment took a bit getting used to. 'Professional Widow' is also fairly easy. Point being, even beginners can use this book. The transcriptions, as said, have been dumbed-down for many songs, but a talented enough pianist can improvise, anyhow. I recommend this book to get started on, it's really wonderful!

  4. I have several books of Tori Amos music, but I bought this for some of the harder to find pieces. Overall, this is my favorite book and the one I play out of the most. I have played piano for a few years but am not very skilled - however I can work my way through most of the music. Some of the songs require more work (Caught a Lite Sneeze, Space Dog) and some like Mother, Putting the Damage On and Winter are pretty easy. I play several instruments and have been able to adapt the music easily to guitar and flute. The only thing I haven't really liked is that since Tori Amos supposedly never writes down music, this doesn't translate to printed versions of audio recording. However, I have seen her live many times and every time each song changes, so a written version of any song is given to improvisation.

  5. I have this book, not only are there plenty of songs in the book, but they are a bit more difficult. You are not getting the way too easy boring version. I highly recommend this book.

  1. I could listen to this album whenever I need to relax. It's one of those albums that you can listen to the entire thing & not skip through any songs. It doesn't have the "sing-ability" of some of her others (Under The Pink, etc...), but Tori is forever experimenting with new mediums & integrating them into her amazing fluid style. I keep this in my car & just enjoy the drive as this angel's voice lilts about me...

  2. If you're into playing songbooks for their piano value (that is, if you're a genuine pianist who loves Tori's music) this book is for you. Unlike all the previous versions, Tori actually made this one as closely resembling the actual album music as possible. It's more challenging than the others, but at the same time not intimidatingly so.
So if you're looking for a good Tori piano music book, this is the one to choose.

  3. "Scarlet's Walk" is my favorite Tori Amos album to date, so when I stumbled across this book, I had to order it. The cover is nice (same as the album), and there's some nice photos/lyrics in the inside pages.

As for the transcriptions themselves, they're very very good. Let's be real, it's impossible to be 100% accurate, especially with an intricate player like Tori. But all the chords seem accurate, as do the vocal parts.

I've been playing since late 2003, so my sight reading is a bit shakey. However, I know my chords very well, so I can pick up any of these right away (just playing the chords at least). So don't worry if you're not ultra-experienced, because you can still get plenty out of here.

Songs like "Strange", "Crazy", and "Another Girl's Paradise" incorporate the vocal melody in the arrangement itself, and they're not extremely difficult to begin with (helped in part because they were written in three relatively easy key signatures).

Other songs like "Your Cloud" and "A Sorta Fairytale" do not, but it isn't extraordinary difficult to do so either if you know all your chords *and* can play inverted versions of those chords as well.

"Carbon" is probably the trickiest, with it's alternating 6/8 and 7/8 time signature, and many intricies. "I Can't See New York" is obviously lengthy. "Gold Dust" is pretty tough too; I haven't even tackled that one too much!

I also own "Boys For Pele", which is also quality, but this is the better of the two. "Scarlet's Walk" is, IMO, Tori's prettiest sounding album (lots of rich major 7ths and 9ths), so this is a great book to spruce up your repetoir a bit.

Hopefully, they're working on a "Beekeeper" song book as we speak!

  4. I loved Tori's album "Scarlet's Walk" and could not wait to get the book. Personally, I like to be able to play the songs as much like they sound on the album as possible, so I was happy with this book overall. I know she never arranges every song on the album for accompaniment. A few always have the melody built in to it. The songs that are arranged to sound like the album version are Amber Waves, A Sorta Fairytale, Wednesday, Strange, Carbon, Sweet Sangria, Your Cloud, Pancake, New York, Mrs. Jesus, Scarlet's Walk, Virginia and Gold Dust.
Then Crazy, Vegas, Taxi Ride, and Paradise all have the built in melody and obviously Wampum Prayer is just the vocal line. All in all the arrangements are very good but I was slightly disappointed with how simple Fairytale was, even though it's arranged to sound pretty much just like the album. I was still very happy with the book and definetly recommend it.

  5. I am a Toriphile, and have five or six of her music books. I have found that all of them, for ease of publishing and other things, are dumbed down a bit, which is irritating, but for the savvy pianist or computer downloader, you can figure it out. Scarlets walk is not unpleasant. Heavier piano tunes like "Wednesday," "Virginia," and "Gold Dust," are great, but also some of my favorite songs on the piano are not really piano-oriented, like "a sorta fairytale," which is mostly three chords throughout the piece. So be familiar with the album and which pieces you really like before you buy. Great for someone who knows all the words to the album, but for a strict piano composition, try "Under the Pink," or "Little Earthquakes."

  1. "Bee Sides" is perhaps the best of the Tori Amos songbooks. For most of us who cannot obtain copies of the out-of-print singles, this book may be the only way to hear her unreleased songs. Edward J. Lozano (project editor) did a remarkable job of setting Tori's music to paper. Especially enjoyable to play are "Honey", "Sister Janet", and "Ode to the Bananna King". You will not be disappointed!

  2. If you have missed the experience of The Bee Sides of Tori Amos this is a fabulous book. It includes the rare and the known. "Here in my Head" "Honey" and "Ode to the Bananna King" are included in the large set list. Here in my Head is especially beautiful and true to Tori's playing.A definite must have for all Tori fans.

  3. lets see...where do i begin? since i am not a die hard fan of tori amos yet, although i love her very much as a person and a musician, some of the songs were not noticable yet to me. i will learn the song and when i do, i know i'll learn to love 'em. i just got the book today so it'll take while...you know? anyway, my favourites must be kinda "home on the range" (i like it because it's noticable) and i love "black swan". "here in my head" also is nice, but since i'm not the greatest at the piano, and it has 6 flats, i just play the music with the f's #. it's kinda hard at first, but after...man, it's a beautiful song. oh yeah, and if you decide to do it my way, make sure that when there's a natural sign, play the note sharp. you do the math...BOTTOM LINE: GREAT BOOK!

  4. This book was printed after Under The Pink was released, so her later b-sides are not represented here, but this songbook is still a gem. Also Paulina Stuckey's artwork is superb! Tori and her dad chose from among her drawings, and they fit so well with the songs they are paired with. Anyway that's all I'll say since other reviews deal with the music itself and I'd just be repeating..

  5. Excellent transcriptions! Be warned that the version of "Sugar" is not the live version. You'll be sorely disappointed if that's what you wanted. The artwork is so cute and hand picked by Tori and her dad!

  1. This is a GREAT book for Tori fans who desire to play her beautiful songs in the basic forms; however, it simply cannot transcribe what Tori actually plays, so it is somewhat toned down. This is at no fault of the editors; Tori is simply too talented. :) It is a great way to play the songs however, and I highly recommend it for Tori fans. ALSO - I think Upside Down is worth it alone, as well as Mother, Winter, and Leather. My only complaint is that they cut Mother short... I wanted to play the gorgeous part when she just sings slowly "Oooh ooh, mother...leave the light on..." and so on, but that really isn't on there. BUT!!! I love the book and I think its well worth it. (to address the very first post, some of my pages have started to come out, but I've sort of abused it over the 2 years I've had it). Great book.

  2. I sympathise with the reviewer who reported the faulty binding. Mine fell apart too... I am a trained pianist and like others, I was disappointed somewhat that the arrangements are never 100% faithful to Tori's versions, a trend obvious in all the Tori albums. This is especially puzzling when often the excised parts are NOT that technically diffcult. But for people with the skill and a good ear, it is possible to improvise your own corrections to make the pieces more faithful - change octaves, maintain accompaniment themes like 'Precious Thing's' famous opening past the intro, as this music *doesn't* do. And what is this thing that publishers *love* to do where they write the melody line into the accompaniment?! It doesn't *exist* in the accompaniment, you *sing* it. This barbaric heresy on performance practice is a sad fact of music publishing, it seems. But overall, it provides good song foundation....but experienced players must be prepared to work around some parts.

  3. If you like Tori and like to play piano, this book is for you! Some of the songs are pretty hard, but if you really get into them, they will start to dominate your world. Most of the songs are true to the cd versions, with some changes because most of us can't play like Tori. However, you can hear the song you know and love when you play it. Playing the songs helped me understand them on a deeper level. Definitely fun!

  4. This collection of sheet music, is an absolute godsend. My favorite songs are China and Crucify. When playing, I feel like I am "channeling" Tori. Quite a rush. Anyways, though, the book doesn't stay open unless you rip the pages out. Aside from that, though, it's a great collection of songs.

  5. Sometimes I question whether or not Tori Amos is a genius or not, however when i first listened to this album I was blown away by her sense of pure honesty and profound goodness, her words speak to the soul and hang from the heart and her memorable gentle touch is brilliant. She is a wonderful pianist and her lyrics are vivid, intense and often overwhelming although her music never fails to amaze me. I believe my favorite songs on this Cd are Crucify, Girl, Precious things, and Little Earthquakes. Her ability to use her words to blend the truth together has inspired me.

  1. Great transcription to the Tori Amos album. The sheet music since "Scarlet's Walk" has been very accurate.

  2. Love the book musically, very accurate transcriptions from what I can tell.
    HOWEVER
    The binding is somewhat cheap...
The color inserts (pictures of the Posse) started falling out within a week of receiving the book (with moderate use, ~30 min. of practice everyday)

  3. There are just a few little things that aren't right, but compared to the mistakes and inaccuracies of the previous Tori songbooks, this one is really fabulous. I've attempted to play most songs and I am really pleased! I'm like a young clown on the piano compared to Tori, so I try to stick to simpler pieces - if that's you too, then start with Big Wheel, Mr. Bad Man, and Smokey Joe. I don't think the intro to Beauty of Speed is accurate - it seems like Tori keeps both hands rapidly moving high on the keyboard in treble clef as opposed to simple bass notes, but does it matter - like I'll f'ing be able to play it!

  4. The transcribing in this book is on the good side. None of the sheet music songbooks are note for note Tori, but all the songs stay in the keys they were written in. Nothing was transposed for easier play, so they all sound right. My biggest disappointment was that "My Posse Can Do", "Miracle", and "Drive all Night" are not included. The book does not like to stay open either. The included artwork is pretty but falls out easy, so be careful!

  1. I've been a Tori Amos fan ever since I was eleven and always wanted to be able to play her music, but her being the excellent musician she is, it was difficult for me to play out of her existing music books. The music isn't really easy, but it is manageable for all the fans with less musical expertise than she has, which is probobly the vast majority. I'm really glad she came out with this, because even more so than most musicians, her music needs to be simplified (but not dumbed down) for all her fans to play.

  2. Great book!
It is the closest sound to playing Tori that you will get (If your a beginner) Take your time with it and remember its "for easy piano" and wont sound like tori's piano playing but you will have access to play her songs in a simple form and they sound great.

  3. I am learning to play piano and this book is helpful. I am playing the favorites that I have truly enjoyed over the years. I recommend this book for Tori fans.
