2 comments about Paul Simon Complete: Music From 1957-1993 (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- This songbook covers all the songs from beginning of Paul Simon's work with Art Garfunkel thru Still Crazy After All These Years. Well at least my version which might be an older version. None the less, the music is fairly accurate and the lyrics are situated with the music for the vocalists complete benefit. Paul Simon is indeed a talented song-writer as he writes music in many keys and uses many complex chord progressions.
- I ordered this book and find out that it is the volume two. Obviously I only got the second half of Paul's songs. I don't understand why they didn't indicate that on the site. I guess probably no one knows anyway. The gentleman that wrote the previous comment didn't mention that as well... what went wrong?? Now I have no idea how to get the first half of the book set... Can someone help??

2 comments about Classic Paul Simon: The Simon And Garfunkel Years (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- I thought this was a book about Simon and Garfunkel music. What I found was it was the actual sheet music. That would have been fine if I wanted sheet music. The description was not clear.
- I had been looking for a Simon and Garfunkel sheat music book, And this one is great. The only prblem I have with it is that it only has the melody, not both their parts.

1 comments about Classic Paul Simon: The Solo Years (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- If you like Paul Simon's music, then you'll love this book. It is a collection of all the music from four landmark Paul Simon Albums. "Paul Simon"; "There Goes Rhymin' Simon"; "Hearts and Bones"; & "Graceland".
Arranged for piano/vocal with guitar frames and has full lyrics. I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel music so I really wanted this book so my son could play them on his guitar. I miss these kind of songs!!

3 comments about Paul Simon: Anthology (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- Paul Simon is one of the worlds greatest musicians. This book shows a three decade career at it's best, the book includes a good number of the hits as well as the not so well known hits. The only bad thing I can think of to say about it is that it came out before Rythm of the Saints did so therefore it didn't have songs like the Cool Cool River, obvious Child, or Born at the Right Time. Overall for any musician who wants to be able to play the songs of one of the worlds greatest musicians, get this book
- I got this book for my husband for Christmas. Last night he played several songs from this big book and it was great hearing it on a guitar in my room. I love Paul Simon.
- If you want to get started studying Paul Simon's work, this is probably a good book for you. If you're wanting to learn his songs on guitar I wouldn't recommend it. It's strictly chords and sheet music. No tab and doesn't show capo positions. It does contain all of Paul's best stuff (IMO).

5 comments about Paul Simon: Transcribed (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- There are so many guitar books for Simon and Garfunkel, and until I saw this book, I was convinced that they were all useless.
This book has really accurate transcriptions, obviously done by someone who has a personal interest in Paul Simon's guitar playing; it shows in the song selection. If you don't know how to play Kathy's Song, Overs, Peace Like a River, 59th St Bridge Song, Scarborough Fair, American Tune (and some others), this is a great, great book. You will learn so much from this book. The two part vocal harmonies are transcribed too, for the relevant songs. I just wish the book could've been longer (keep an eye out for Brad Priddy's web page), but there was enough material in this book to keep me going for at least 9 months.
- This is a great book, it includes the music in both notation and tab. The transcriptions are perfect, they are exactly what is on the recording. The best part about the book is that for each song, there is a page or two describing how to finger each chord (some of the songs are really hard to play if you use "normal" fingering, if you use the alternate fingering he suggests, you can do the chord switches MUCH easier!)
Using this book, I had Bookends and Scarborough Fair down in two days! The only thing preventing me from giving this book a 5 : It had some songs I didn't know, and was missing two songs I really wanted : The Boxer, and Sounds of Silence.
- If you want authentic transcriptions, this is the book for you. I have every Paul Simon guitar book of note, and this is the only one with real recorded-version tabs; lamentably, it lacks some of Simon's wonderful flourishes, but it is by far the best Paul Simon guitar book available. Each song includes a page of Mark Hanson's performance instructions/notes that are genuinely helpful and informative. The music ranges from early intermediate ("Bookends") to intermediate advanced--the more difficult arrangements (like "Hearts and Bones") are much too demanding for a real beginner. But if you have decent fingerpicking abilities and want a book to grow with, this would be a great choice. A true 5-star selection. If it had included "The Boxer" and "April Come She Will," I would be a happy man.
- The author Mark Hanson gets much well-deserved praise for his books, cds, dvds, and teaching style from folks on the guitar web forums I visit. This word of mouth led me to try his Beyond Basics Fingerstyle Guitar book/cd combination. Which led me to buy his The Art of Contemporary Travis Picking book/cd combo and his Fingerstyle Solo Guitar dvd. I found all of these to be excellent learning tools. In his Paul Simon Transcribed, it's much of the same again: great instruction! This isn't a beginner's book. You have to know something going in. He prefaces each song with a page telling you about the tune itself and the technique for how it should be played. Both the standard music notation and the tablature for each song are presented clearly and in detail. And fortunately for me, as I am unable to read music, the tablature shows the timing/beat/rhythm of the song: without that I'd be lost. One final gushing comment: this is an excellent book which could only have been better if it had included an audio cd to hear how the songs should be properly played. Enough said!
- I am in awe of Mr Paul Simon and his great work in his music.
This book is awesome with great explanations and great tabs, esp for an amateur like me. Dabbing in music without a guitar instructor, poses to be ardous, but with such a good book I could decipher the tabs quite easily.
Thank you for having such a great book!

- This book is FANTASTIC. IF YOU WAN'T TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY "MRS. ROBINSON" as it was RECORDED...GET THIS BOOK. "THE BOXER" IS ALSO ACCURATELY TRANSCRIBED.
The accompanying CD is TREMENDOUSLY helpful and shows you how the songs sound when you do it right.
The author also has a half dozen other tunes added.
It's a JACKPOT.
THE BEST SIMON & GARFUNKEL GUITAR TAB BOOK I'VE EVER SEEN! 10 STARS!!!!!

5 comments about Simon and Garfunkel's Bookends (Rock of Ages).
- Like Mr. Fornatale's style on radio, the book is written in a light, breezy, uncomplicated manner, that informs, broadens and enlightens. While needing some time to get to the album itself, Mr. Fornatale brings us back to the 60's, where and when other signature albums of that historic period were introducing themselves, such as Sgt Pepper's and Pet Sounds. In fact, any fan of music is surely going to move from the book to the turntable or cd player, and experience Bookends, and the other albums.
Clearly, Mr. Fornatale is not merely a historian of the rock era, nor just a radio personality, but rather, an avid fan of the music and that makes the essence of the book fairly simple; read it, learn from it, and appreciate the genius of S and G, the Beatles and the Beach Boys......Mr. Fornatale, bring us more.
- If you are a music lover with the keen awareness that music is not created in a vacuum, this book is for you. Mr. Fornatale informs his readers of the very tumultuous times that influenced the creative consciousness of the beloved duo, Simon and Garfunkel. A new level of awareness was reached, found and brought to the airwaves by Simon and Garfunkel's intelligent lyrics and beautiful harmonies. Read this book and learn about a very important shift of consciousness in American culture and music.
- As a child of New York rock radio in the 70s and 80s, the preeminent FM radio station of its time for me was WNEW-FM. One of the most intelligent and insightful voices on that station of those days was Pete Fornatale.
Since that time, I have heard the author's Mixed Bag radio program over many years. Pete Fornatale simply is a wonderful storyteller and lived in the midst of this golden age with a bird's eye view of the goings on. Accordingly I came to this book with very high expectations.
This very brief book captures the feeling of the times and places a context for Simon and Garfunkel's seemingly short recording career. Pete Fornatale recounts several interesting stories about the partnership, but unfortunately tells the story too often from an outsider's perspective without real insightful details into this prominent duo's history.
It is almost as if this book was written in such a manner as to not offend either of the partners in this duo. I'm hard pressed to believe that either Mr. Simon or Mr. Garfunkel would look unfavorably upon this book.
It is a quick read, it does provide some interesting stories and it refreshes your memory as to Simon and Garfunkel's place in music history. If Pete Fornatale, were to write his next book in his magnificent storytelling style, pulling back the curtains a bit more and telling more of the stories, even the uncomfortable ones, it would make for a better read.
- First of all author Pete Fornatele has been a fixture in my life and in the lives of many New Yorkers for over 3 decades as a DJ on a legendary NYC FM station and now WFUV-FM with a weekly themed radio show.
So he knows of what he writes.
I have always had an afinity for S&G's music; Pauls thoughtful, literate lyrics and underrated guitar playing and Art's angelic voice.
This book traces their career, from it's early beginnings, obviously focusing on the title, the Bookened album, which Fornatele deems the apogee of their career. There are a lot of information in here about the duo that even if you are major fans and know something of their history together, you will learn some new things.
It is a very short book, a quick read, but I think it is essential reading for any S&G fan in particular and any music fan in general.
- A nice little book crammed with information on the rise to fame of the wonderful duo Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.I especially liked the end where the author shares my own view that they will indeed meet up on a park bench at 70 just like in their song "Old Friends" A must for Simon & Garfunkel fans everywhere.

5 comments about Simon And Garfunkel's Greatest Hits (Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel).
- Songs within are Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs. Robinson, the Sounds of Silence, The Boxer, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), Scarborough Fair - Canticle, I Am a Rock, Kathy's Song, Cecillia, America, Bookends, Homeward Bound, El Condor Pasa, For Emily Whenever I May Find Her.
There are words with each song. Songs match the CD with the same title and cover picture. Except I can't get the Boxer to match the one on the CD. Doesn't have the usual note guide with it. I'm a beginner so this book is a stretch.
- This is an excellent book for beginners, I just got it and I'm already enjoying it. If you play the Acoustic guitar and you're not an expert that you can play songs and write notes only by listening to them - this book is for you. Bridge Over Troubled Water and Mrs. Robinson are only 2 of the great hits you'll find in this book. Here is the list of songs: America, Bookends, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Cecilia, El Condor Pass, For Emily, Whenever I Might Find Her, Homeward Bound, I Am A Rock, Kathy's Song, Mrs. Robinson, Scarborough Fair/Canticle, The Boxer
The 59th Street Bridge Street Song (Feelin' Groovy), The Sounds Of Silence. Enjoy!
- Very good note for note transcriptions of the songs.
To the person who couldn't get boxer to match : The book says no capo required. This is misleading. The recording is tuned one step lower than standard tuning. So you need a capo at the -2 fret :) If you want to match the recording, you will have to retune. The publisher assumed most people wouldnt want to do that, so they just said no capo required.
- There are not a lot of albums I would buy, but this is one that I did. As far as I'm concerned this album rates among the all-time classic (pop?)rock albums. It's rates to be there along with other classic albums, such as the Beatles White album, or Neil Diamond's Hot August Night. What else can I say?
- You have to read the fine print on this one- it is not the tab that Paul Simon plays which I had wanted, it is an easy cheat version that is often inaccurate. Even where to capo is wrong on some of the songs. I have a piano/guitar book that has the real music. When I started to use this, I was very disappointed to see if was not the real deal. Also, there is a book that looks the same in all ways (except easy guitar label of course) that is out there so it is easy to buy this in error. I had used the real deal at a friend's house, and then came home and bought this book which I thought was the same.
If it is an easy approximation you want, this is OK. If you want the real deal, beware. This is not it!
