  1. I love this music and the way Perlman played it. I recently bought this sheet music assuming that it is edited by Perlman since the cover page has "For Itzhak Perlman" on it and somewhere on the website says "by Itzhak Perlman". I was very disappointed to find out that the violin part was not edited, not by Perlman, not by anybody. No fingerings. No bowing. Am I missing something?

  1. I bought this for my daughter as a bday gift. She loved it! This is her first year playing the flute, and I was hoping the music wouldn't be too hard for her to play. It has songs that are for every "talent" group, from beginning to advanced. This was definately a great buy!

  1. This is a beautifully produced and informative introduction to the history and manufacturing of pianos. Profusely illustrated, it easily matches much more expensive tomes about pianos. A great value!

5 comments about John Williams Greatest Hits 1969-1999 (Greatest Hits).
  1. If you are looking for a book with various themes of John Williams, look no further. This book contains many of his great hits from, like the book says, 1969-1999. It includes the themes from Born of the Fourth of July, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Jaws, JFK, Schindler's List, E.T., Close Encounters, and Superman. It also includes Duel of the Fates, The Imperial March, Luke and Leia (for all you Star Wars fans), Cadillac Of The Skies, Hymn to the Fallen, Seven Years In Tibet, Scherzo For Motorcycle and Orchestra, and many more. If you are a fan of John Williams and play the piano, this book is for you! P.S. Also look for the 2-CD set of the same name which includes all of the same songs.

  2. This is the best piano book in the world.

  3. Boook was in GREAT shape, super super super fast shipping. Wonderful seller. Buy from this person! Thank you so much! We used one of the songs as a joke in our wedding (Indianna Jones theme song... I'm an Archaeologist) and people LOVED it! Thanks for helping to make our special day even better!
    A+++++

  4. This book has all of Williams's best. The songs sound really good on the piano and are easily reconizable. I recommend it to any John Williams fan.

  5. i bought this for my brother who started taking piano lessons a while back, and it's got a great selection of some the most beautiful music i've ever heard (i love john williams). good if you love jurassic park, etc. & many other timeless musical scores!

4 comments about Music from ""The Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition""" (Easy Piano).
  1. When I bought the book, I expected what would be nearly the full score. However, most of the songs have been shortened and simplified to save space and to make playing the songs easier. However, the songs tend to lose some of their spirit when abridged. While many of the main rhythms are demonstrated, many small details that show specific emotion in the movie are left out. The songs lose their value. I think that the origional score, unabridged, should be released.

  2. This is the best, most complete version of music from the Star Wars Trilogy you can get. It is written like it just came of the from the pen of the mighty John Williams himself. It is written for piano (even though it does not say it)and it is fairly advanced. I would say you should have been playing the piano for 3 to 4 years to be able to sit down and go through all the songs, I believe a less difficult version is available but I have not seen it a Amazon.com. This is MUST HAVE if you love the music from Star Wars, and who doesn't?

  3. This book contains 14 songs from the "Star Wars: Special Edition" trilogy (Episodes IV-VI). For those who truly enjoy the "Star Wars" music and have a desire to play it, this book is worth having. I specifically bought the book for piano playing, so I wish it would have been formatted in a piano solo edition. Despite this, most of the pieces play very well on the piano.

The first section contains pieces from "Star Wars: A New Hope." These are as follows: "Star Wars (Main Theme)," "Cantina Band," "Ben's Death/TIE Fighter Attack," "Princess Leia's Theme," and "The Throne Room." Of those probably the main theme is the easiest to play, but I still enjoyed it. "The Throne Room" sounds very majestic on the piano, and I'm glad it was included.

The second section is from "The Empire Strikes Back" and includes: "Han Solo and the Princess," "The Imperial March," "Yoda's Theme," and "May the Force be With You." The "Han Solo and the Princess" theme can be reasonably grasped by a novice player, and it sounds very nice on the piano. The same can be said for "Yoda's Theme."

The third section is from "Return of the Jedi" and includes: "Luke and Leia," "Parade of the Ewoks," "The Emperor Arrives," "Victory Celebration," and "Jedi Rocks." Of those I particularly liked "The Emperor Arrives" and "Victory Celebration."

This book has 60 pages of music plus a few pages of photos and a fold-out poster. I could have done without the pictures and poster if it meant having a couple of more songs in there for the same price (I hope the publishers read this). But their inclusion was not excessive (as I have seen with other movie music books).

I enjoyed this book very much. Of course, these pieces are not nearly as memorable on the piano as were the original soundtracks, but for piano-playing "Star Wars" enthusiasts, the book is worth buying.

  4. The last reviewer, Bill Dunham, was incorrect. He said this book had 16 songs and 60 pages. I just received this book in the mail and it actually only has 8 songs, and 36 pages. It does contain some nice photos from the movie. I would recommend it for a beginner piano player who likes Star Wars music who's already had a year of lessons.

5 comments about This Business of Music: The Definitive Guide to the Music Industry, Ninth Edition (Book only).
  1. I highly recommend this book to gain greater insights in the Music business or any business. Its one of the best books your ever buy on the music Industry. I have two copies to reference one for my home and one for the office. It was a great buy along with a couple of manuals I purchased from Musicbrains.net entitled the Indie label Kit.

  2. Music is an art form, selling it is business and a ruthless one at that.
If you want to get ahead, you must know the rules. This book is the real deal not magical thinking and wonderlust. Get it and get ahead.

  3. I definitely gained some insight into the ins and the outs of the music biz. What a Great read!

  4. You'll need to buckle down to study this one as a text & not a reference book. If you don't have the attention span for a dense textbook, you'll wind up using this book as a reference text. If you're looking for something easier to study from, get: "Everything You Need To Know About the Music Business" by Donald Passman.

A crucial text that goes way back to its first printing in 1969.

  5. Has some insight about how to get put on, but not much more than I already knew about.

5 comments about This Business of Music, 10th Edition (This Business of Music).
  1. I have owned several editions of this book through the years. I am impressed with this tenth edition of a standard reference work that I point my students toward (I am a composer and a professor of music involved with production and recording).
Ever wonder about the potential legal issues involved in publishing a compilation? Or covering a famous song? The finer points of movie soundtrack copyright? Or perhaps you are confused about terms often used but poorly understood by most musicians, such as mechanical rights or what constitutes a work for hire.
As far as updates, I am pleased to see a discussion of digital downloads, the legal issues and battles involved, and their share of the music business pie. There are lists of labels distributed by the four majors-- I didn't know that Caroline and Astralwerks are both owned by EMI, for example-- as well as the inclusion of contemporary phenomena such as the South by Southwest Festival, ascendant in recent years.
But the most important aspect of this book to me is the authoritative voice of a seasoned New York City entertainment lawyer who has been around for a long time and manages to stay abreast of new trends and practices.
    In short: highly recommended.

  2. This warhorse of a textbook still gives you the information you need when you need it. My one complaint is that it's still written in a very user unfriendly language. It just seems to me that this book can explain things with a little simpler English.

There are some good additions/changes to reflect current changes in the industry.

However, if you are a novice trying to get a feel for the machinations of the music industry, there are better books out there.

  3. Now in its 10th edition, THIS BUSINESS OF MUSIC has been completely revised and updated to reflect the latest changes in the music business, and provides powerful survey which includes major changes in digital technology and how music has been distributed. Any who would keep making, promoting and successfully selling music needs THIS BUSINESS OF MUSIC: it provides musicians, agents, managers and music publishers with the latest industry insights, covering legal and business issues and covering contracts, royalties and much more. Both college-level collections strong in music studies and business and general-interest public lending libraries will find it a popular pick.

  4. This is the industry standard for substantive knowledge of the music business. Deal points, standard contract provisions, the often technical and confusing jargon, and the historical context for many industry practices are all covered here in comprehensive yet concise fashion. The book comes with a CD-ROM containing sample agreements, forms from the United States Copyright Office, and forms from the three performing rights societies. A must for those seeking to understand day-to-day business and legal operations in the music industry. The material can be a little daunting, and at first might seem impenetrable. Multiple reads of a particular chapter or paragraph are often necessary to fully grasp the relevant subject matter. But that's a testament to the complexity of the various segments of the music industry, not the skill of the authors, who are experienced music law practitioners.

    [...]

  5. This book was in excellent condition and full of great information. Shipping was VERY slow on this item. It is pretty technical but probably a must for anyone who is in the music business. I would have given it more stars if it would have arrived sooner.
