  1. This in no way, shape, or form represents what John Mayer is actually playing. Yes, if you play this, it may sound similar to the song, but nowhere near accurate. The Room For Squares (Guitar TAB) does indeed display an accurate representation of what John Mayer plays, and I would suggest that you wait until a similar product is published for Heavier Things.

  2. I guess the review for the Play it Like It Is Guitar Tab book follows John Mayer's Piano / Vocal / Guitar Book. This review is for the PVG book.

Basically I bought this book just for "Daughters" and "Wheels." Obviously since John is a guitarist his music sounds better on the guitar. However, Daughters and Wheels sound pretty good on piano, and what's neat is you can actually play the piano version of Wheels right along with his CD recording! Daughters doesn't sound so great but you can still play along well enough.

Overall, aside from the two songs mentioned, the book really wasn't worth it to me. Perhaps someone else can comment on the other songs.

  3. Don't buy this if you want to play his songs on guitar! It's more suited for piano, there's not even tabulatures, just chords. The "play it like it is" is just bulls*t. It's very simplified and if your want to play it on guitar it will not help you at all...sorry.

  4. I am in japan.
I am sutisfied with this product and purchase.
    Thank you!

  5. For guitarists with previous knowledge of reading music, chords, and tab, this book is a breeze (however playing it is a whole different thing...John Mayer writes some difficult stuff!) For a beginning guitarist, I think it will be very challenging from a playing standpoint, but for those looking for a challenge, and eager to learn, have at it! I highly recommend the book to all, there are many online music/tab websites out there, and 99% of it is wrong. With this book, and others like it, you KNOW you'll be playing it the right way.

5 comments about John Mayer Room For Squares (Guitar TAB).
  1. John's training at Berkley definetly shows thru his playing on this record. This album shows off his left hand's impressive understanding and manipulation of theory and how it applies to tone, and the over all sound of the music." Neon " is the best example of where John's real talent and ability lie: his right hand. His rythum skill and techniques are beautifuly portraied in that song and several other layers in the background of the other tracks. To play this album, and understand the theory he used to write the album will make a better guitarist.

  2. Notice that there are 3 versions of this book - PVG, Easy Guitar, and Guitar TAB. Make sure you don't get the PVG if you are wanting to learn the guitar parts, as it does not have guitar tabs in it.

  3. I had hoped to buy this Easy-Guitar Tab in hopes of finding out what chords John Mayer was using for his hit "No Such Thing."

The guitar tab was fine, but lacked Mayer's fundamental chord structure, by not supplying his chord changes when they are most needed. The guitar chords totally lack the head of the song, which to me is the signature element of the melody. In other songs, there is plentiful chord structure. Why does this tab book not include the chords for one of his most notable and play-worthy songs?

I can only say that the authors of this book were negligent and intentionally so. I was not satisfied with my purchase, and would caution anyone who intends to buy this book with the thought of finding "No Such Thing" detailed in the book, when it is not.

  4. The good news is this book features strikingly accurate-sounding transcriptions. The bad new is this book features strikingly accurate-sounding transcriptions. Why the paradox? If you can play the songs as written, it sounds just like John Mayer. But the key word here is 'if'. I've never heard of most of the chords he uses on this album, nor have I ever seen them in any other song (and I've been playing for nearly ten years). His riffs are sickeningly complex, and his solos are no easier. After lots and lots of practice though, it can be accomplished, and it sounds great once it comes together.

  1. A great CD, and even better to hear it played by your own hand. Some of the hammers and slides are not transcribed as played on the CD, but overall, it is great.

  2. Note for note accuracy printed out in standard notation and tablature. Continuum is a solid project that manages not to sound like it's over-manufactured.

  3. Before this book, I'd been struggling with incorrect tabs for John's songs all over the internet. Once I purchased this book I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate and detailed each song is within the book. If you are up for learning John's songs and style, this book is a must

  4. This book was great.
I really love John Mayers music and this will help me play his songs!
