1 comments about Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream.
- This book is very different than the expected Joe Satriani hard fast rock. It is very bluesy and for those of you who have an open mind and a thrill for Satriani music, this is a "must" get. Although not tabbed by Joe himself, the songs are amazingly tabbed close to how they sound on the album itself. The book is quite difficult so I recommend it to experienced guitarists. Some songs transcribed include: Flying in A Blue Dream, Mystical Potatohead Groove Thing, I Believe, Big Bad Moon, The Phone Call, New Rays from an Ancient Sun, Day at the Beach, Ride, and The Forgotten parts I & II.

1 comments about Joe Satriani - Strange Beautiful Music (Play It Like It Is).
- A guitarist as good as Joe Satriani is often overlooked by the critics, case in point the Grammy Nominations. Fans however, recognize the talent and fluidity of a well crafted artist.
This is probably Joe's farthest reaching CD covering a wide variety of musical types. SLEEPWALK a 40's or 50's sounding tune that flows smoothly and quietly with resonance. CHORDS OF LIFE which is an enhancement to what All Along The Watchtower probably should've sounded like had it evolved.Sometimes referred to as the "gymnast of guitarists" his work is not simply visual as it is eclectic. Joe's ability to pour out "perfect" tone over and over again is evident in this book of work which is a must have for any guitarist of any style. The variety in this book will help any guitarist to further polish there chops and help to increase there sensitivity to the appreciation of tonal quality.

- If you listen to Joe Satriani, then you obviously know what type of music he plays. From fast runs, to slow and melodic songs, he's got it all. This book shows you note by note how to play those beautiful songs that Satriani plays.
Even though, I have found probably 2 or 3 mistakes in what I've played, the rest is very nice and very accurate. I have learned a couple of songs and played along the Crystal Planet cd. Buy this book if you like the cd and if you play guitar. You won't be dissapointed. One thing I tell you....a lot of stuff here is a little difficult, so be warned.
- If your a fan of shread guitar, or guitar in general, and you are looking for a challange, but cool stuff to play, here it is. I strongly suggest you buy this instead of getting tabs off the internet, this is 100% accurate and has additional info on how to play a song. Great for reserch on how to play Joe's style.
Great Album, Great Book to help you play along.
- This is the first Satch book I ever bought, the melodies on this album are amazing. This book has everything a real guitar player will need. I would recomend that you know your scales first. The songs are fairly straightforward compared to some of the other Albums. The focus on this album is using Scales/Modes to represent an emotional theme, but don't worry their are plenty of mind boggling licks that will tear your hand up if your not ready.

- As always a great job by cherry lane music. All you have to do is pop in the cd and jam along. Note for note transcriptions let you play every song on this album just like the master. Keep in mind that its not for beginners, Satch truly is the worlds greatest guitarist and this book shows you why.
- This is not an actual Satriani transcription, the way the Steve Vai Passion and Warfare book was laid down by the man himself. The notes sound on, and work well, but it was not transcribed by Joe, so it could be a bit off. Don't be mislead by the other review the way I was. I was under the impression that this shipped with a naked vamp CD because of what the other review said, and it doesn't. It's still a good book.

1 comments about Joe Satriani - Is There Love in Space? (Play It Like It Is).
- This was probably Joe's finest ablums with the most killer solos...it has alot of meaning embedded in it...anyhow if you want to play like joe this is the book to buy...most of all his songs (besides the ones he sings in)are just fluent and beautiful...my personal favorite is the title song "Is There Love In Space" it really reflects on the name...and it has the craziest solo ever!!!...but if you are a beginner this book might be a little advanced...so i wouldn't reccommend this book for the shorties(keep working on those exercices)!!...but overall this is a great tab...all of songs are easy to understand and will have you play like the guitar master himself in no time...peace

- This book is huge, Joe is THE greatest guitarist ever. Some of it is easy like the riffs, but once you actually get to when he starts playing, oh my god. I never realized how complicated the things he does is. He will forever be the greatest.
- Joe is simply the best guitarist out there. I didn't realize how difficult some of his chops were. wow

- Joe Satriani has a variety of different instrumentals with great melodies and skill. I think he is superior to most of his competition. This is an album that has something for everyone.
- This book is very awesome. It has all the tabs for the "Surfing with the Alien" Joe Satriani album. While some of the notes may be a little off in a song or two, it's very well transcribed and tabbed. A lot of the stuff here is a little difficult, so I'd recommend it to a serious player who wants to do some serious shredding & rhytmn guitar. It's even better once you learn a whole song, pop the cd in the player, and play along with Joe.
The feeling it's great, but you'll need to spend some time practicing. Remember, practice makes perfect.
- Just like the book is titled, Joe Satriani: Surfing With The Alien is a note for note transcription for guitarists looking to add to their repertoire, or just wanting to practice some challenging material.
The book itself has some amazing insight into the complexities behind Joe Satriani's guitar technique and musicianship. There's a 4-page intro that reveals secrets such as which modes, scales and chord progressions each song is built upon. As if that wasn't enough, the reader is again brought "up close and personal" with all 10 tracks having their inner workings revealed through thorough explanations.
The rest of the book is like any other tablature: a note-for-note transcription with easy-to-read tabs underneath. If you're like me, you don't have time (or patience) to guess which notes you're playing. After purchasing this book, you're well on your way to practicing some of the best (and most challenging) rock guitar music of our day.

5 comments about Joe Satriani - Guitar Secrets.
- You don't have to like Joe's music to enjoy this book. I just started playing guitar when Joe's column ended in Guitar Magazine, but those two columns I did read stuck with me forever. In this collections of all his columns, Joe will give you interesting ways to improve your improvising skills, create interesting chord progressions and ways to take things you already know and twist them into something new. This is NOT a book where Joe shows us how to play excertps of his songs, but more like what those lessons he gave to Kirk Hammett and Steve Vai must have been like.
- A great tool for improving.
Puts enthusiasm back into your mind.
Open tunings are awesome and fun to play around with.
Enough material in this book to keep you busy creating awesome sound and music for a lifetime.
A must have!
- Joe Satriani is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitar players of our time, that said this book is useful yet a bit hard to get into. First of all, it consists of 40+ lessons which sounds nice, but in reality each lesson is not much more than a small blurb. The lessons are, after all, a compilation of columns that Joe wrote for a guitar magazine so they are very brief. Joe focuses very much on guitar theory and emphasizes memorization of modes and scales and memorizing the fretboard in general. I found myself reading an article, then working on the lesson for days (even months) trying to memorize different things, and it ended up feeling kind of like work instead of fun which defeats the purpose if you ask me.
Bottom line: Good insight, poor delivery.
- I have been looking for books dealing with Joe Satriani guitar technique for some time, and not really technique, but essential guitar knowledge that can be applied to any style. Speed, coordination, and theory all exist in this collection of magazine excerpts. Awesome shiz-nit.
- Short lessons compilation from Guitar For The Practicing Musician magazine published in 1987-1990.
An interesting book plenty of ideas for expanding your musical knowledge and creativity but not a virtuoso technique book. It's approached to experiment by yourself applying the concepts explained. Many lessons don't contain examples. So don't expect to find a lot of speed, arpeggio or scale exercises as it is not that kind of book. Notice that it is not a guitar method.
Probably many musicians already know much of what is shown here but they'll surely learn some useful ideas or work in what they already know but they haven't cared of.
The table of contents is well structured but lessons are ordered chronologically which makes it less comfortable.
