5 comments about Eagles: Hell Freezes over (Authentic Guitar-Tab).
- I have loved the Eagles for years, and have several CDs of theirs. Last Christmas my wife and I splurged on a built-in 7.1 home theater system with high quality speakers and components. I have been accumulating music DVDs since then.
Other Amazon very positive reviews convinced me I should buy this DVD; I'm really glad I did. I can play audio in either Dolby or DTS. I've found music DVD's sound best when played with DTS, so I always buy videos with DTS audio tracks if they are available.
I watched "The Eagles -- Hell Freezes Over" with DTS selected, and all I can say is WOW!. The picture quality is great when upscaled, and the DTS is awesome. The DTS-only bonus track "The Seven Bridges Road" sounds so good that I plan to use it as demo for my audio components and speakers when I want to impress my friends; never mind that its one of my favorite Eagles cuts.
My only complaint about this album is that it does not include the Eagles classic "Lyin' Eyes"; otherwise, its perfect.
Don Henley, Glen Frey and the rest of the band have aged gracefully, but their musical and performing skills haven't diminished in any way. This is a DVD to sit down to, turn up your volume, kick back, and rock out.
- If you are an Eagles fan and you enjoy Acoustic guitar over blasting electric... then their come back album/video is right for you. I bought both CD and DVD for obvious reasons.
- The delivery time was fast. The book quality was excellent and the price for the quality of the book was even better.
- I enjoyed reading Don Felder's book, Heaven and Hell. In this book he described some of the behind the scenes issues of this performance. When he was asked to be a part of this event and of re-joining the Eagles, he did it. When Glenn and Henley came back, there became this huge control thing happening. At once, the equal pay amounts were thrown out the Window. They were all told where exactly to stand. Felder was moved to the extreme right. If you watch this video, you seldom even see Felder. When he is seen, he is the one who is smiling and enjoying it the most as well as Joe Walsh. When Frey Sings he never sings to the audience but moves to the side which makes me gather that he is and was trully uncomfortable with this part of performing. Henley is way too monolithic. Just way to serious. The performances were ok but not relaxed enough. Also, the show starts way to slow....
- Absolutely amazing! One of the best dvd concerts that I have, crystal clear picture and fantastic sound. Acoustic rhapsody!!! So full of emotions, Eagles take you to another dimension. Great voices, great guitar sounds!

- I like this book pretty much. Songs are from the first 5 albums. Tabs are in key with the recordings and the solos are pretty much complete. Worth the price I gave for it, just wish there were more of their later songs.

5 comments about Ultimate Survival Guide for the New Music Industry: A Handbook for Hell.
- What's so unbelievable? Well, two things. First it's unbelievable how anyone could describe this book as "All in all, an extremely unsatisfying book. If there was a "no star" rating I would have chosen it." The second thing that is unbelievable is how great of a read this book truly is. This is a down to earth, easy to read, easy to relate to guide to the music industry, which is EXACTLY what it claims to be! Goldberg's style is very conversational, tapping into the many years of experience that he and others in the music industry bring to the table to give those of us who aren't "insiders" a very real look into this hard to break into scene. There's nothing technical, boring, or elitist about this book, it really is the "ultimate" survival guide. And I had absolutely no problem understanding the MANY references made in the book to the attached cdrom and how to access that information. I guess some people just don't pay attention to what they're reading!
- Why is it that the music industry is called the businessman's hell? Well read this book and you might find out, it contains the history of the independent record label and also lots of examples of people that made it big using minimal resources. It will teach you about the dangers evolved in fighting big companies and the "how to"'s of the business. A good book with easy structure and an accessible language that truly deserves to be called "the handbook for hell"
- I recommend this book by Justin to gain greater insights in the Music business or any business. It was a great buy along with a couple of manuals I purchased from Musicbrains.net entitled the Indie label Kit on Amazon.
- This book by Justin Goldberg is one of the best books on the independent music and the music industry out there. This book is head and shoulders above the competition. What makes this book so great is that is broken down into chapters of important aspects of the industry and most importantly each chapter contains numerous interviews from industry executives about their thoughts and experiences on the subject. Only aperson as well connected as Goldberg could have gathered and harnessed this much knowledge in one book. Just when you think this book can't get any better it has a CD Rom included with it. The CD ROM is a database of music contacts that is unparalleled. Any contact you need in the music industry is on that CD Rom. The CD ROM itself is worth $15.00. To me it was like buying the database and getting the book for free. If you can just afford to buy one book on this subject, this should be the one!
- This book is good but I prefer, `the essential guide for serious singers and musicians.' Why? It is rare for writers to be honest and frank about what really goes on inside the music industry and bold enough to speak out against it. I don't think that I can find any book anywhere that really starts from the fundamental leading to progressive knowledge of the inside workings of the music industry regarding its control and unfair monopoly over bands. Okay this book is good for some information but if falls short of what I think is required i.e. the fuller picture of the music world. I discovered this particular book on amazon.co.uk

5 comments about To the Limit: The Untold Story of the Eagles.
- Well I was skeptical throughout reading this book after the reviews and after I heard that Don Henley didn't like it. I kept an open mind but overall thoroughly enjoyed the book.
I agree with some other people who have said that it is very much focused on Don Henley followed closely by Glenn Frey and Timothy & Joe dont get the constant mentions nor do we learn about their lives like we do Don & Glenn's but that didn't bother me because Don Henley was the one I was most interested in. Another critical comment was the constant name dropping had me confused at points. If you aren't up to date with whos who, at times it can get a bit hectic. One early chapter I had to completely miss because I just couldn't keep up with all the different names and not knowing who they were referring to.
On a positive note, I learnt a lot and this book would be great for people who have admired The Eagles and their music but dont know a great deal about them as people. I thought it was a great read and gave an excellent overview of the yeras and didn't just concentrate one on period or anything.
- There are just few Eagles bios out there, so for that reason I give this 3 stars. It gives an overview of the band's history, and has some interview material with Don Henley, Randy Meisner, and others. But no Glenn Frey interviews, other than quotes from other sources. The Eagles were notoriously secretive, so the secrets remain. Eliot makes you think you're getting secrets, with lots of semi-sleazy accounts about drugs and groupies. But it's the same old rock music thing, and it just makes you think the Eagles were taking advantage of being young, single, and successful. A lit more chilling is the way they allegedly dealt with some of their associates. But again, the way they dealt with former band members differs little from say, the Stones. There is coverage of their powerful managers, first David Geffen, then Irving Azoff. It goes into great detail about the band's business dealings, and why they've managed to keep a fair amount of the dollars they've generated while other bands have not. The failings of the book include the real reasons for the band's break-ups, which remain murky. Even more significantly, it doesn't really lead one to understand the complex relationship between Glenn Frey and Don Henley. That is "the heart of the matter," and Eliot either doesn't get it, or is not willing or able to explain it to the reader.
- I am an Eagles fan, and really enjoyed this book. It's not deep reading, but you will enjoy it.
- I don't trust Eliot. He describes the background the Jackson Browne's "Ready Or Not," but he calls it "Sooner Or Later." He describes MCA's deal with Motown in 1980, "a distribution deal with the Detoit-based company," (page 213). Motown hadn't been in Detroit for 10 year at that point.
Eliot can't decide whether he is a biographer, a music critic, or an editorialist. The basis of this book is biography, which is meant to be fact. He shouldn't be critiquing the music, - I don't care what he thinks of the tracks on The Long Run frankly - although admittedly it is what all rock biographers seem to do, Dave Marsh included.
He shouldn't be giving us his opinions. (Page 247: The paragraph beginning "Meisne's comments are wistfully unrealistic." is a good example.)
And Eliot should learn to tame his purple prose. Page 164: "The conversation gradually faded, and they continued on in silence until Henley, staring straight ahead, quietly said, "Everything's changed." This is one of Eliot's embarrassing attempts at profundity. Get over yourself. Just tell the story.
It would also help if Eliot learned basic English composition. The book is full of split infinitives, sentence fragments, and mismatched pronouns. I will have to find a better Eagles biography than this.
- If you don't know the story of the Eagles, this seems to sum it all up, and the writing's not bad, if a bit overly profound at times. The band is put in context of the southern California moment of the '70s with some interesting insights into how west was eclipsed by east as the 80s came along with disco, Bruce Springsteen, then New Wave, punk etc. Henley cooperated with the author, but Glenn Frey didn't, so the tale can be a little lop-sided at times. The tunes have held up well, which is why this book is worth reading if you are a music fan or historian.

5 comments about Ray Brown's Bass Method (Eagle Large Print).
- If you want to have Ray's TECHNICAL ABILITY (not his musical concepts), this book surely have the content of what you need to know to be one. But if you're a beginner (which at this time needs full guidance in almost everything), then maybe this book isn't yet for you (except, if someone more experienced could help you out). Almost from the beginning we were forced to find out fingerings on your own (and this is good, if you already have enough experience with the instrument). So, if you don't have enough experience, you need another book that gives you full guidance in every material taught, for example: Lew Berryman's 'Intonation Plus'.
Another problem - there's some mistakes in the books. Either some wrongly written notes, and some wrongly written content. P 29 have exactly the same content with p 31, but the titles were different. These things could led to confusion.
- The Book if focused on excercises that provide a good foundation for bass players. I have found it very useful eventhough I am not a beginner. Excellent book!!!
- This is a classic study which I've used since I first came across it in 1977. Scales and arpeggios, blues. This book is a must for any student of Ray Brown's.
- This is a very good book, especially if you are an experienced player and know how to read. Good for any level from intermediate to pro. Most of it is filled with repetitive exercises to develop good technical and harmonic skill with various chordal structures and rhythm. It's all there; patterns, drops, rakes, diminished, augmented, whole tones, blues, double stops, etc... He's got some really great sample blues lines that any player could easily add to his trick bag. Most of the fingerings are not specified, making you experiment and think for yourself how to get around. He states that this was his intention. Overall you can't go wrong with this method book. I feel honored to be able to vicariously study with the best upright player in the history of commercial and jazz music, for a mere thirteen bucks! He was truly the greatest!
- This book will complete any aspiring bass student's learning methodology along with their classical training, utilizing book's like F. Simandl's classic technique series. Along with the teaching of a quality instructor, the learning musician will find working between classic and jazz forms an expansion of expression Ray Brown discovered in developing his interpretation of upright bass technique.

5 comments about The New Eagles Complete.
- Whether you are a fan, or just interested in the music of the Eagles, this is the book you need! More than 65 of their greatest and well known songs (including some rarer live performances) are laid out in sheet music form, showing chords, shapes, tempo and full lyrics. Very easy to follow and play, and not encumbered with pages of non relevant information, this is a pure musicians aid, rather than anything else. Alphabetical contents page helps you jump straight to selected favorites, and although some songs run over 6 pages in sheet form, which can be a little distracting and disruptive when trying to follow with guitar, this is a great buy. Anyone who has ever purchased individual songs in sheet form will also enjoy the exceptional value for money of this collection.
- It does have a lot of songs in it, but it doesn't state that is in the 'Easy Guitar Chords, Easy Piano' type, no arrangements at all.
- Published in '95, this compilation has a good selection of classic eagles hits ( and some more obscure ones ), and 5 from "Hell Freezes Over". Songs are ordered cronologically, and indexed in the front alphabetically. All songs have three lines of notes : bass, harmony and melody as well as the guitar chord and fingering notations. The only thing that seems to be missing is guitar tabs for solos, etc. Overall, a good find.
- I purchased this songbook with lyrics for my 80 year-old mother at her request so she can sing along with the Eagles' Farewell 1 Tour in Melbourne DVD I bought for myself but have since relinquished to her because it makes her so happy!! My mother is an Eagles junkie!!! Now I have to purchase another DVD for myself! It's GREAT!
- This book is meant for my daughter (15 years of age) who is starting to learn to play guitar. I was 12 myself when i started to play guitar and i also used an eagles-book. And that was 34 years ago. There was an Eagles-songbook which was set up perfectly to learn it in a quick way. The first album on one side and desperado on the other side, with some nice photo's. Too bad i don't have this book anymore. This one has the same layout, as far as i can remember. She's learning quick now and she also plays saxophone for 5 years now and she is using this book also to blow some notes away.
I only wonder if the chords are really the same, just like don felder and the others uses them. a 'g' for instance is showned as to be set with two fingers, while i know that a 'g' is with three.

- I really like this book. I have not played the guitar for 20 years and I was able to start right away with this edition. I really like it and recommend it for beginners and those that want to get back in the game!
- Excellent for Beginner to intermediate guitarist. Good selection of Eagles favorite songs in easy to play chord progressions.
- First class - ideal for those who want the rhythm sections to some great classics
- I just received this book and I am very impressed. I have only been playing the guitar for just a short while and still taking lessons. I like the way this book is laid out and easy to follow. Anyone that knows the Eagles' songs and know the basic chords can play the songs in this book. I am glad that I bought this book and recommend this to any beginner or advanced guitarist. It is ia fun book.
- This is the greatest guitar book I have ever used. I liked it so much I bought another copy and mailed it to my buddy in Kansas. Yahoo it is SO worth the cost.

5 comments about Hotel California: The True-Life Adventures of Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Mitchell, Taylor, Browne, Ronstadt, Geffen, the Eagles, and Their Many Friends.
- Barney Hoskyns' book on the canyon scene in California may hold some interesting revelations in some personal and business details of the battery of musical artists who inhabited Laurel and Topanga canyons in the sixties and seventies but there are two problems I had with it.
Unlike some of the other rock tomes or musical bio's written in an interesting story telling mode, this book rambles on as a narrative jumping all over the place from artist to artist and place to place and back again! It's like an endless Rolling Stone article without focus or anything to draw you in.
Secondly I don't know how much of this I could believe. I say that since I notice when covering the Rolling Stones involvement with some of these artists, Mr. Hoskyns is niether accurate nor fair. He dives right into the erroneous and slanderous media hype linking the band with devil worship, something the band and it's management have consistantly denied. Even fellow musicians and most music fans realize that "Sympathy For The Devil" was about man's inhumanity to man and not in any way praise for the devil.
Mr. Hoskyns adds insult to injury by also raising the details of Altamont with the same venom as the rest of the media, directing most of the blame at the Rolling Stones. He conveniently ignores several details such as the use of Hells Angels as security being a recommendation of the Grateful Dead or as caught in the same film, "Gimme Shelter", that Meredith Hunter was aiming a gun at the stage when he was stabbed.
As you may imagine, I'm well read on the Rolling Stones. I was hoping this book would provide more insight on some of my favorite artists from the California scene. I'm hesitant at this point, however, to buy into any of the information bandied about through this book.
- I knew some of the history of all the artists written in this book (they are some of my favorite musicians).
What I didn't know is how intertwined their lives were and how pervasive the drug culture eked into their lives.
This book is actually a cautionary tale... while some of these artists made it out alive, some did not. There were a lot of music people that did not survive the sex drugs and rock and roll. There is something to be said in the old adage "Don't wish for something that hard... you might get it"
After reading this book, I was amazed that any of these artists could write or play any of the memorable tunes that they did considering the amount of illicit substances in their respective systems.
Some of the incidents described in the book are scenes that most rock fans know... the chance meeting on Sunset of Richie Furay and Steve Stills with a hearse-driving Neil Young that led to the formation of Buffalo Springfield, but a lot of the inside dynamics and interpersonal relationships described in this book were new to me as an avid rock fan.
This book was easy reading, and perhaps eye opening. I recommend it for all music fans.
- Hotel California is a great read. I have CDs by almost everyone in it so I am a little prejudiced.
- Read this book with Joni Mitchell playing in the background and your 1968 peace sign necklace on. It was such a treat to read the "backstory" to all of the great songs and artists. This is a great read for all of us Woodstock babies. I dare you to read it without coming away humming "Free Man in Paris"!
- "Jack of all trades, master of none." This cliche applies to this work. In trying to cover so many musicians over so much time, the author ends up skipping over a lot of what we readers would like to know about them.
