- Excellent book, if you like dave's music and play guitar you must have it, it's a excellent choice to learn about the style and the way he plays. With tablature for people who don't read standard music notation.

3 comments about Dave Matthews Band - Crash.
- Jeff Jacobson and Paul Pappas have created a well-edited, accurate portfolio of the music to Dave Matthews Band's "Crash". A perfect companion to the CD for all guitar players - preferably those DMB-inclined.
- Basically Dave Matthews Band has never had anything below excellant. This is just another example of how great and musically talented he, Leroi, Stefan, Carter, and Boyd are. Their new album just shows how able they are to do anything they want. They are open to new ideas and can always do it a million times better than anyone else.
- This book is only for the diehard DMB fans. The intricate details taken to make the parts sound exactly as those on the album is a tremendous step (especially for a band that is known to improvise) and will take much practice in order to master. The five-part guitar for Two Step really shines in this book, even adding parts for the pizzicato violin parts and Tim's intro solos. If you are tired of trying to figure out which way to play "Crash Into Me" from OLGA (at one time I think I counted ten ways to play it), then this book is for you.

5 comments about Dave Matthews Band FanFare.
- Well, first of all let me say that I had heard about this book for a long time and thought it would never happen, cause I didn't think Ariel Chernin would be able to collect enough stories about the boys. But in this book she says they got 600 stories and chose the best 100! This is truly an amazing collection, and it is a must for any fan that takes DMB seriously. While most books about groups and bands are written by one critic, this one is written by all the people who are closest to DMB--the fans themselves. And when you get the fans' perspective, you also find out about all kinds of stuff you never would have found out any other way. I mean, I loved Morgan Delancey's book on the band, but she just can't match the fan stories that are collected here for their sense of humor and quirkiness. And the photos of different fans with the guys are just incredible. Yes, yes, yes!
- This is an exciting book filled with revealing and exciting stories about the Dave Matthews Band and its fans. This book is a must for all true DMB fanatics such as myself. Not only did I enjoy seeing my own story featured on page 53, I have absolutely loved reading about the experiences of other fans. This book is fun to read because it not only features exciting and entertaining stories, but it also reveals the off camera characters of Dave Matthews and the band. An great book to own!

- I actually wanted to give it 3 1/2 stars, but that wasn't possible. ... I received this book for Christmas, being the DMB fan that I am. What I encountered left me mildly intrigued at times, frightened by the unmitigated idolatry at others, grinning at certain moments of inspired sarcasm, but mostly not terribly impressed with the diversity (or lack of) in the stories. I have never encountered uber-fananaticism such as the examples in this book, such that I started to seriously question the line between passionate interest in a musical experience and tragic obsession, but that's another review.... Although I can not relate to the level of dedication and sheer time expenditure many of the contributors displayed in their efforts to connect with the band in person, I can appreciate the adventures many of them had and the exuberance with which they want to share their experiences. The stories were just very similar and saccharin in many ways and that is mostly why I'm reserving a higher ranking (For e.g. - There was a ton of this sort of stuff. "I was high as a kite (naturally or chemically) at the performance. I waited outside the venue for the tour bus. I followed the tour bus to the hotel. I waited outside the hotel. I flirted with a roadie and got into the hotel/backstage/on the bus. I cried and shook, or was overcome with effusive emoting in some form, when I saw Dave in person. I got a picture as proof.") In general, I think with the number of submissions they claimed to receive in the assembling of this book, the editing job was quite flawed and likely not representative of the submissions because 1) I'd make a rough guess that 80% of the stories were just about Dave Matthews. They were interesting, but it would have been nice to read more about the other band members as well. There was almost nothing about LeRoi for example. 2) Pretty much all of the stories painted the band as a gaggle of saints with endless reserves of patience- incapable of anything but the most gracious, diplomatic expressions of appreciation for one's fanship no matter how invasive, persistent, or flat out inconsiderate the fan(s) in the story happened to be. Then again, maybe the ECW Press deemed that fans who would want this book would only want to hear those types of stories, as opposed to something more real (and more human...) I find that last part ironic because I believe one of the draws of DMBs music is its raw humaness. Anyhow, maybe the next installment of FanFare will be different.
- I was actually one of the people that was chosen to have their story published in Fanfare. It was a highlight for me to be recognized in this way for being a fan of one of my most favorite bands. In this book you read about others experiences and have it verified that DMB are truly the people that we envision them to be.

2 comments about Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds - Live at Luther College (Play-It-Like-It-Is).
- This is not really highlights but tabs for 12 of the songs on l@lc cd. Songs included were One Sweet World, Satellite, Crash into me, Deed is Done, What would you say, Minarets, Stream, Christmas song, Seek up, Ants Marching, Little Thing, and Granny. Havent yet listened to with music but it looks correct. This is a guitar and vocals book with a breif interview like section in the beginning.
- I found this to be extremely helpful in learning both Dave and Tim's parts. Though it is hard to play alot of the stuff Tim does, I put the music into my music writing software, listened to it, and the music sounds very correct. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to learn how to play anything off of the L@LC album.

4 comments about Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds: Live at Luther College Vol. 2 (Play It Like It Is).
- It has all of the songs that volume one does not have like tripping billies, dancing nancies, two step and more. Good Buy.
- This is the book I was waiting for, a few more of the non-mainstream D + T songs not played often on radio or other media outlets. I also like the little extras that were included and played on the Live at Luther College CD, like "What Will Become of Me" at the end of "Jimi Thing", and the alternate beginning to "Tripping Billies".
This may not be the best book for novice musicians, however, as the transcriber is quite thorough. Each crazy chord is outlined at the beginning of each song, and there are usually plenty of them, which definitely helps. By listening to the CD enough, and following the music in the book, you can easily follow along. Good book. Thanks. I'm having fun with it.
- ...This should be it. Take it from me-- I have all of them, and this is the best one... so far. (Some Devil comes close.)
As previous reviewers have noted, this book includes all the songs left out of the previous volume (which is also excellent). However, they didn't mention that this book is (or at least seems) significantly heftier-- it includes the songs with the long intros and outros, like "Two Step" and "Warehouse".
The transcription of "#41", one of my favorite songs, is perfect. I could never get the chords to sound right before, and now it's easier than ever. "Jimi Thing" is great-- this book includes the extended "What will become of me?" coda. All the others are fantastic as well. Every transcription in here is worth having (except maybe the super-short and -simple "Halloween", but it's still good). Tim Reynolds' solos-- also perfectly transcribed-- are ingenious, though I don't have the ability to do them justice, I'm afraid.
DMB is at their best live, and at the heart of that is Dave's guitar playing. His style is so much freer than in the studio, and this album with Tim showcases his songwriting and guitar ability beautifully.
- I've been a huge Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds fan for a while now, and all others who love their music will know that the improv and particular chords used in Live at Luther seeem almost impossible to mimic simply by hearing it. This book brings your favourite songs from Live at Luther to your finger tips with spectacular accuracy.
A must have.

- I bought this book as my first guitar book, because I was about to start learning how to play. The DMB was (and still is) my favorite band, so I figured that if I learned to play their music, it would keep me motivated and I would want to practice. The music was just right for me, and I have so much playing it!
- Bought this because I was interested in learning some of DMB's music, and I have to say, this is an excellent resource! All songs have notes & tabulature (for you lazy guitarists ;) and all of them are fun to play... my favorite to play is Crash :)
- ...and boy am i glad i did! I've been playing guitar for nearly 15 years now, and none of these songs are formatted correctly, but rather mere "fake transcriptions", if you will, of the songs they are meant to reproduce. While the tablatures sound like the correct song, if you read, listen, and learn the correct chords and structures from his recordings, Dave Matthews incorporates so much more into his music that this book cannot recreate. If you are buying this for a beginning guitar player, make sure you get them some real lessons to go aolong with this, trust me, they will aprreciate it much more, and it will go soooooooooo much further in the long run if they want to progress with their skills.
Hope this helps,
-chris-
