  1. This is an OK book. It has most of the old CCR songs, it has all but about one. There are piano, vocal, and guitar chords here, but some of the songs printed aren't the CCR version. It really messed up "Cotton Fields." The songs are farily easy to play by an amatur pianist and/or amatur guitarist.

  2. Some song will float in your head for many minutes after it is done. When you hear the first several bars of music - at first you may not know the name of the song (or who sang it), but some where from deep inside of you the words come to your mouth and you sing along with the radio. Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of those groups that had songs you will find yourself doing just that.

  3. This music book serves its purpose on a very BASIC level. The chord progressions for most Creedence songs are pretty simple. Therefore, it is hard not to get it right even by accident. Several of the songs are written in the wrong key but a good musician should be able to transpose. Most of the instrumental passages are missing(Gloomy, Suzie Q, Walk On The Water,Ramble Tamble, I Heard It Through The Grapevine). Long As I Can See The Light seems to be a little off with the piano notes. Most of the other piano music is pretty on the money. Cotton Fields is butchered on many levels. The guys only sing the first verse. If there is a book with tabilature out there and guitar solos written out, I would pass on this edition. However, beginners can certainly use this as it is kept very simple.

  1. A very good book. It has comments from all the members of the band on the bands' rise, fall, and aftermath. The author does a good job of mixing old interviews with newer ones. He also inserts comments and observations on why the band, and John Fogerty in particular, have become such an american staple. It was interesting to read about J. Fogerty's approach to songwriting and music and also what some of the inspirations were behind his songs. Reading the band members' comments about what happened after was both insightful and sad. Cook and Clifford claim that J. Fogerty should accept some of the responsibility for the bad blood that is betwween them. While some of this may be true, C & C should also accept some of the blame for the bands' demise, which I feel they did not do. Call Fogerty whatever want, but he's the reason that the band rose to the top. It was his drive and determination and musical vision that enabled the band to reach the level of success that they attained. After the band split up, it is J. Fogerty's solo work that gets the interest and publcity. Cook and Cliffords solo careers? Ehhhhhh. I also feel that C & C should've supported Fogerty more in his battles with Saul Zantz. This book is a very good companion peice to Hank Bordowitz's "Bad Moon Rising: The Unofficial History of Creedence Clearwater Revival".

  2. I've enjoyed reading this book many times. I've like the fact that they talk about some of the good times.

  3. if you love Creedence you'll love this book ,do yourslf a favour and read this book about your most favourite band . however not enough photos and they should have been in color .

  4. It was great to have the band members themselves give their view of things, but there's little that couldn't be summed up in a couple of pages. Instead you get countless variations on a few themes: John Fogerty loves the blues, CCR worked hard with John in control, John is a vindictive jerk.

It would have been nice to have heard from a broader range of people: childhood friends, early fans, etc.

  5. I am sure that this is the only book about the Lives of John & Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford that I will need to own. The Story of Creedence Clearwater Revival is told on these pages in their own words. It is not fancy and full of pictures, but it is The Story as only these Four Men could tell.

If you are interested to find out the Real Story as told by the Band Members in their own words, this is the Book to purchase. From the early days of Playing Music before the Fame and Hit Singles {10 years of paying dues}. The Four Biggest Years {1968-1972}. And the Afterlife {including a Funeral} of these Four Artists. This is an honest account of what went down. If you plan to get your facts in order before you write those Reviews of CCR or John Fogerty, this is place to go.

A Good Enjoyable Read and full of information you are not gonna find in those Biographies...FOUR STARS !!!

5 comments about Creedence Clearwater Revival: A Step-by-Step Breakdown of the Guitar Styles and Techniques of John and Tom Fogerty (Guitar Signature Licks).
  1. This book basically breaks down all the chords making their near-perfect music very easy to play. I am a novice at guitar, and I found this book very helpful, some some of it is just way too advanced for me. I highly recommend it for those who want to play good music.

  2. Without a doubt, Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of the best, and most important, rock and roll bands that America ever produced. And the chief creative driving force behind this band was John Fogerty, the main songwriter, singer, and lead guitarist.

Many of Fogerty's immortal classics are contained in this terrific book: Proud Mary, Born On The Bayou, Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Fortunate Son, Lodi, Who'll Stop The Rain?, Up Around The Bend, Have You Ever Seen The Rain?...this small group alone is enough to insure CCR's inclusion on any Rock and Roll 'Hall of Fame' lists...

What makes these songs so memorable are the simple, yet brilliant, guitar passages that John Fogerty always crafted his songs with. Both the rhythm and lead parts to these songs are all derived from the basic roots of rock and roll guitar...learn them, and you will have a terrific foundation on which to build your own guitar vocabulary and style, whatever direction you decide to go.

The tablature to these songs are accurate and spot on, yet not too complicated or overwhelming for someone just beginning to learn how to play...if you are familiar with the songs, this book will show you how to play cool sounding stuff very quickly...

With great songs, great guitar parts, and great guitar tablature to match, this book is a great value for the money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. lr*****

  3. I saw CCR in 1970, give or take a year or so. John Fogerty and the band rocked the house and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to. I've never gotten tired of hearing their music, it's timeless. I bought this book, I think it's superb and recommend it to anyone wanting to learn CCR music. The music isn't difficult to learn to play, but sounds great, just like Creedence Clearwater Revival.

  4. This Book is for Beginners and Advanced guitar players alike. The music is easy to play, but yet is still a challenge. I love all these songs and i learned these songs quickly. If you're just starting and want to impress your friends, i highly recommend this book. It also includes a biography of the band. So go and buy this book for cheap!!!

  5. If you're reading this then you're clearly a CCR fan and you need this book. It has tabs and chords as well as standard notation. Forget internet tabs, play it the right way.

  1. I love this book! I have been a fan of CCR for a long time, and trying to play Fogerty's guitar parts just from internet tabs and/or by ear, is extremely difficult. The Guitar Recorded Versions tab book is easy to read, has the all of the lyrics and multiple guitar parts all together. There are chord diagrams at the beginning of every song as well. I have been playing for maybe a year now, and this is my favorite tab book because of the readability, quality of print, layout of the information...and of course, it's Creedence.

For the money, it's hard to beat any of the Guitar Recorded Versions tab books from Hal Leonard, and the Best of CCR is no different. Highly recommended!
