- There lies a dilemma in this book of sheet music, in that; it is going to be the last one that the Bee Gees produce. However "The Record" book of sheet music has forty songs while this only has nineteen, all already included in "The Record", except for "Man In The Middle". For the biggest collection, I'd recommend "The Record", but this should be viewed as a collector's item. All music for vocals, guitar and piano. It's a nice gift.

- How can you possibly write a biography about one of the most successful rock bands of the last four decades and get it all right? Writers Bilyeu, Cook and Hughes (along with Brennan and Crohan and many others) have managed to achieve the impossible. With uncountable interviews and years of research, this team has placed the Gibb family and all their triumphs and tragedies into perspective.
Starting chronologically with the pre-marriage days of Barbara and Hugh Gibb in the 1940's up to the present, continually active Bee Gees, we are presented with every viewpoint, memory and recollection of the three brothers and their freinds and acquaintances. The highs and lows of the Bee Gees and Andy Gibbs' careers are not glossed over or over-emphasized. They are told with 'matter-of-fact' honesty and sincerity; a refreshing exercise in storytelling. The read is fast and crisp with a personal edge lacking anything close to newscopy. After the conclusion, there are numerous, wonderful appendixes including more comments from folks close to the Gibbs, a complete album and singles discography, a cover versions list and a bibliography with book, magazine, newspaper and Internet Web Sites. All the beauty marks and all the scars are here. It just makes the Gibb family more human. They may be ordinary people, but they have had extraordinary lives.

- This book was written right before their last successful album (at least for awhile) was released, Spirits Having Flown. But it's quite thorough. It tells all about the brothers' beginning, when they left Australia to go to England for some success, all the way to the Saturday Night Fever story. Some things I never knew were that Barry married his producer's (Robert Stigwood), secretary. Robin married the Beatles' producer's secretary. Another thing is that they never knew for what type of a movie they were making the Saturday Night Fever songs for. They just produced their best in 2 weeks and handed it to Stigwood. They write all their songs in minutes to hours and can't even read music! There's alot to learn in this book, although you'd probably want to buy a newer book. Kim Stevens mentions that they probably won't split up again, but right after the 1981 album Living Eyes, they do. Much to learn in newer books, but not bad for its year.

1 comments about Best of the Bee Gees (Easy Piano (Hal Leonard)).
- This booklet includes super hits like Words, How Deep Is Your Love, World, Stayin' Alive and etc. This book includes easy piano or keyboards and guitar chords for each song. Not recommended, because it's useless. Tales From the Brother Gibbs (songbook) is better.

Contains: Alive, Bodyguard, Boogie Child, Come on Over, Edge of the Universe, Fanny (Be Tender with My Love), First of May, He's a Liar, Holiday, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, How Deep is Your Love, I Started a Joke, I Can't See Nobody, I've Gotta Get a Message to You, If I Can't Have You, Jive Talkin', Jumbo, Living Eyes, Lonely Days, Love You Inside Out, Love So Right, Massachusetts, Melody Fair, More than a Woman, Mr. Natural, My World, New York Mining Disaster, Night Fever, Nights on Broadway, One, (Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away, Run to Me, Someone Belonging to Someone, Stayin' Alive, Throw a Penny, To Love Somebody, Too Much Heaven, Tragedy, Woman in You, World, Words, You Should be Dancing, You Stepped Into my Life.
Sure wish it had more . . . .
- This 43 song composite covers songs from 1067-1990. The chords are set for piano, vocals and guitar. Some of the song selections are perrenial favorites, while others are odd offerings ("Jumbo", "Throw A Penny" "Boogie Child (actually complex)). There is a brief Discography and a song by song recollection by each one of the Gibbs. Some comments are funny some poignant and some silly. Not a bad set.
- this is a cool Book that gives a overview within the structuring of many the Bee Gee's songs.you can see the Paino Parts&Hooks&bridges too various tracks they did over the years.I've always dug there Rhythm&Timing on there tracks.they understood Hooks really well.and one of the things they don't get enough credit for is being able too Groove during the Disco Era when many acts were just pushing Buttons these Cats could strip down the Groove.
- This is a 4 CD set of wonderful songs from Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. There are songs from the early days like "I Started a Joke" and "Spicks and Specks", through the disco craze of "Saturday Night Fever" and on to 1990. I is a great collection, one I listen to over and over.
- This book is great! You can: Play guitar, play piano, sing the lyrics....all from this book!
When I say that you can "play like Barry", I mean it. The Brothers have presented us with their well-remembered hits of their collection, and for each hit includes piano and guitar chords. Now, for any guitarist like me you're lucky to have illustrated guitar chords--not just the abbreviations and symbols. I love it when I play my accoustic guitar while going along with "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart"--sounds just like Barry's guitar playing!! The layout of the music is just flawless and unsurpassable. And, finally, in the "About the Songs" section of the book, I love relooking at the descriptions of the Bee Gees' hits, where Barry, Robin and the never-forgotten Maurice Gibb made comments. The descriptions give you plenty of detail and I always learn something new reading them--for instance, Robin describes how the UK hit "My World" surprisingly became a hit--that motivates me on their music. What I'm trying to tell you is that the descriptions aren't like: "Yes, a great song indeed" and that's it. Not really.. For example, Barry's description of Stayin' Alive blew me away saying "Light fuse and stand well back"--like it was some explosive piece of music. That section just captivates my attention, and makes me replay their music. This is one ultimate book that makes you play their hits without trouble! You're definitely missing out on this inspiring book if you don't think about buying it!! Believe me, it's worth your every penny.

4 comments about Bee Gees - Their Greatest Hits: The Record.
- Finally we have all the lyrics to the great songs on "The Record". It should have been included in the original liner notes of the CD set. No matter. This is the full collection for Piano, Guitar and Vocals, for those brave ones.
- I have to tell you, I was amazed at how revised and improved this new anthology book was, compared to the box set anthology book (red-beige color). This book has all the songs from "The Bee Gees--Their Greatest Hits--The Record album".
The guitar chords are improved, more specific, and not to mention, they sound better once you play them. Here are the songs that the chords that were improved or totally refurbished:
How Deep is Your Love
Nights on Broadway
Love So Right
There are probably others; just got this in the mail the other day. But I tell you, I was expecting the same old chords for the good songs, and yet, the Bee Gees revised the chords to make it easier and sound better.
Only music sheets are present in this book--no discography or comments from the Bee Gees about songs, which doesn't really matter since the new chords make up for that very nicely.
Thanks Bee Gees!
Jeff
- Nice book if you like to play chords and sing along. Guitar tab would have been nicer. Great older songs I never knew off. Talented song writers. Not really into the disco thing but some songs just great no matter what type of music it it.
- I love the Bee Gees. I have the album that goes along with this book, and the book is in fantastic condition.
