5 comments about Ac/dc: Bonfire.
- I've played guitar my whole life and I just got into AC/DC, most of their songs are just chords, making it simple for beginners to play awesome songs like TNT, Back In Black, and You Shook Me... The only thing I have a problem with this book is that they're missing a great one like Dirty Deeds... which dissapointed me a bit but the book kicks anyway.
- Everything you need for AC/DC from 1975-1980, including never before heard tracks! Easy to use and play. If you want to play the classic thunder chords of AC/DC, this will be a great book for you.
- Terrific Book by ac/dc. I own a guitar and every song in this book sounds perfect, just like the song! It even has tabs and which count to play each note on, the tempo and the standard notation (sheet music). Great book. In case you don't know, the title BONfire comes from the singer BON Scott. These are all the songs that he performed before his tragic death (choking on own vomit). All of their best songs were performed by him and are in this book. The format is very simple, it gives you the main riffs and labels them such as "Rythm figure 1". Then, when you need to play rythm figure 1 along with the lyrics, it says "with rythm figure 1". It even has the solos!!!!! GREAT BUY. EVERY AC/DC FAN NEEDS IT!!!!
- Take my word that these AMSCO books are not worth your money. The tabs to the latest songs on Bon Fire are completly wrong. They are the tabs to the recorded version from Highway To Hell and not the demo tracks from the BonFire Volts CD!!!!
The only song that has been tabbed almost correct from VOLTS is "back seat confidentionl" but the other tracks are that of which was on HTH and not what is on the album.... it is a rip off to buy a tab book for an album and they have not got that song tabbed! If you see this book at a cheap price, then it would be worth a purchase, but dont pay too much, because no more then 60% of the book has been tabbed correctly, and the transcripts are incoorect to way too many songs!
- This folio contains only studio versions of the songs from 'Bonfire'. There are no live transcriptions from Atlantic and Paris. There are no transcriptions to the alternate takes from Volts. And many of the outro solos are not tabbed - it merely will say something like "ad lib solo next 60 bars". Added, these Amsco books are badly engraved, poorly edited, and questionably transcribed.
Now, let me paraphrase and then comment upon the the Editor's Note found inside this folio, which reads: "Although most of the tunes that appear on...'Bonfire' have appeared on previous studio albums...some of the...live performances...exhibit some subtle and spontaneous nuances not found in the studio vesions. In addition, 'Bonfire' features more than one version of certain songs. In deciding which versions to include in the present folio, we spent a lot of time listening to the 'Bonfire' collection and comparing the live versions with their studio counterparts...the studio versions (are) tighter (and) more familiar. For this reason, for AC/DC tunes that exist in more than one version, we have based the transcriptions on the studio version."
So to comment - that Editor's Note is total baloney. For they spent no time listening to 'Bonfire'. The decision to release this folio as all studio cuts, was simply an excuse for Amsco (Scamsco) to rehash the transcriptions from their previous 'Dirty Deeds: Best of AC/DC' folio, because identical transcriptions appear in both.
In closing, Scamsco should be strung up by the guitar community in general, for daring to reference this junk as 'Bonfire'. Why the back cover even shows all four albums from 'Bonfire'. Yet only 40% of 'Bonfire' is actually transcribed (less if you account for missing solos). So this book is just plain old lousy - one/half star.

- This book is an absolute must-have for anyone who plays the guitar and loves the timeless music of AC/DC. The songs transcribed are true classics and the arrangements are predominantly note-by-note accurate. Granted, most mere mortals don't possess the speed or technical abilities of Angus Young, the incomparable lead guitarist, or his rythem-playing brother, Malcolm, but with perseverance and practice, this book will bring many hours of smiles and maximum riffing. A hearty Angus fist up to this book!
- This book contains too many incorrect errors and sloppy made tabs that arnt even close to the way they are played!
Who made who is played in C,A,G...NOT D,C,A like this book shows.......I dont even know what they have tabbed as the solo for Whole Lotta Rosie.. but trust me its 100% wrong!!!!! dont pay more then $5 for this book, because theres not much to be learnt from inccorect tabbing!

2 comments about AC/DC: Family Jewels (Guitar Tab Edition) (Guitar Tab Edition) (Guitar Tab Edition).
- great tablature book, though some of the songs do not contain the complete guitar solo outakes.
Highly recommended!
- if you excuse the mistakes it contains. By the way, I feel I should let everyone know that this book is published by AMSCO >_>.
otherwise, the book seems to be all right plus the size of it gains some credit back. This book is good if you want to get a basic grip on AC/DC's songs. However, if you are looking for solid material that teaches you how to play like Malcolm and Angus, look elsewhere.
Again, I would recommend this for beginners(it will keep you busy for a while). But, if you're a player looking to take your playing to the next level and really tear the speaker cones out, then i wouldn't recommend it. Either way it's your choice, but it is still a good book despite the common errors.

5 comments about AC/DC: Two Sides to Every Glory: The Complete Biography.
- No complaints here. The writer's a fan and clearly enjoyed putting this thing together. I can always tell when someone did their homework and there's no doubt Stenning did. All eras are covered and there's pics in there too. The close attention paid to the late great Bon Scott's life and contribution to rock was very cool. If you want to learn everything about the boys from down under this is a good place to start.
- An interesting read , gives the whole picture of the band and the members from start to the present....If you are into AC/DC then this book will be a satisfying read....
- What can you say about a book that doesn't even manage to get Bon Scott's date of birth right? Seemingly cobbled together from fansites, old interviews and bits lifted from Clinton Walker's far superior tome on Bon Scott, this offered no fresh insight into the band or their history. The narrative was confusing and choppy and looked like a patchwork of third hand information. A long, rambling and inconclusive chapter about Bon's death did nothing to raise the stakes. The definative AC/DC book is out there somewhere, but this ain't it.
- This is just another rock "biography" that is nothing more than footage taken together from magazines and other books. Of course, there are no interviews with key member of AC/DC given specifically to this book (the Young brothers just don't permit it). All in all, there is absolutely nothing new here. I suggest you to read "Highway To Hell".
- A good read and very informative.A must for any AC/DC fan. This book details the history of the greatest rock band ever, from its beginnings in the dives they played in australia to the force they became in rock and roll.If you love AC/DC then youll enjoy this book.

3 comments about Riffology Of AC/DC (Learn to Play).
- I gave this to my son as stocking stuffer - he has not stopped using it since Christmas - he is amazed that the book is easy to follow and user-friendly to someone like him who's just beginning to learn guitar.
- The tabs in this book are correct! The "For Those About To Rock" tabs are exactly the same thing Angus play's.. Which in other tab books or on the internet had the wrong way... This book also a has a brief history of the band and it expalins how Angus and Malcolm have been influence by Chuck Berry, The Stones and The Who.. It also has a section on how to get that AC/DC sound on the guitar...If you want to learn some classic AC/DC riffs played the right way, then you should buy this book! Rock On!
- I have been completely against AMSCO tabs for years due to them not tabbing out AC/DC songs correctly. An old friend did a review here and answered some replies about the tabs being correct in this one. So I had to check it out.
When I got the book in the mail, I wondered why it felt so thin, seeing as how it's supposed to have 70 songs in it.
Well, to my surprise, I opened it up, flicked to the first tab, and there is Back In Black's intro, then a whole heap of writing and information. The next page showed the Chorus, and the boogie riff later in the song... so i turn the page, and it's showing Ballbreaker... but wait, whats going on here? where is the solo to BIB?
Flicking through some more pages, I noticed there is no solo's what so ever in this. Most of these song's are just the intro and the main riff.
Although most of the tabs in it are correct, I see why this is called Riffology, as it's only the opening riff and then your left to use the force to work out the rest of the song.
For someone like me who has been playing for over 10 years, it's easy for me to work out the rest of the riffs (even tho I knew them already) but for a beginner guitar player, you are going to want to jam along to the song, and then coming out of the intro, you will be staring at the tab pages asking yourself, "is this right? where is that bit, that doesn't sound right"
For someone who wants to just learn some party piece's to play, this book is great. But for someone who wants to learn the song from start to finish, this is not the way to go.
For a beginner, it might be cool to learn a few intro riffs, and a more advanced player might be able to help you out with learning the rest. But this almost seems to me like AMSCO has said, "Ok, you have complained about us tabbing out song's the wrong way for years, here is the bit's we have messed up, there correct now, now you can buy our other books, and use these riffs to replace the parts you knew where wrong"
Like I said, they may have finally corrected some things, but these tabs are not complete.
# Back in black - only the intro, chorus, and boogie.
# Ballbreaker - intro, first main riff... does not continue onto pre chorus!
# Bad Boy Boogie - main riff only, nothing else!
# Beating Around The bush - intro only, well the part 2 bars after the intro that continues playing instead of the held note. It wouldn't have been so difficult to write the main riff of D A G E would it?
# C.O.D - intro and main riff.
# Dirty Deeds - cut off the 1 shown on the e and it's correct, but it's only the intro and doesn't show that Angus is using full power chords. Nor does it show the main riff or chorus which is not that hard. It shows a piece saying to tap something, for starters, if that is trying to show the solo trilling, it's on the e string, not the b string, and it looks more like thunderstruck then Dirty Deeds, secondly, tapping was not even around in the 70's when this song was written, and the only known time Angus has ever used a tapping method is on the solo of Who Made Who (and not the lead riff)
#Big Balls - i'd argue that it is a regular b5 chord, not a b7 as shown. Still, it's still only the intro. The main riff should have been included.
#Dog Eat Dog - Main riff only, I suppose it's not hard to work out you just don't include the open e in between the notes and let them ring for the intro, but still, the pre-chorus is not tabbed here. And the solo is one of the easiest AC/DC riffs, why couldn't they tab that?
#Down Payment Blues - I will argue that it is 2 note power chords, not just an open E. It's just the intro.
#Flick Of The Switch - Another intro, only.
#For Those About To Rock - Finally AMSCO realized there is no 12 on the b string being played here. However, it still shows how to play the LIVE version, although it would not look a heck of a lot different, the timing of the notes is different for the recorded version that has a kind of pluck to plick bounce sound to it. Not just the full driving 11>11>11>11 sound to it that Angus uses for the live version -- Also, again, it's only the intro, does not even show the main riff.
#Get It Hot - intro/M riff only
#Given the dog a bone - looking at it, something seems off about it. However, it's only the intro.
#hard as a rock - it seems it focus' on the intros rhythm section and has a bit like, "oh by the way, this is what you mostly hear by Angus" --- again, intro to it only.
# have a drink on me - intro only :(
#Heat Seeker - interesting transcription, but i will argue with this tab and still say it's played
---------------------------|---------------------------|
---------------------------|---------------------------|
---------------------------|---------------------------|
-----5h--7--7--9-----7-----|--9--5h--7--7--9-----7-----|
-----5---L--5--5-----5-----|--5--5---L--5--5-----5-----|
--x--5---L--------5-----5--|-----5---L--------5-----5--|
angus clearly shows he is doing a 12 bar blues like pattern in the video and donnington performance.
#Hell Aint A Bad Place To Be - intro/main riff only
#Hells Bells - at long last amsco publishes the intro done correctly.. to bad it's only the intro.
#High Voltage - they finally worked out it's a A/C chord, and included the intro bit Angus does... and the main riff.... but thats all they show!
#Highway To Hell - I still argue this song is A5, not A... but anyway, they only show the intro/main riff here.
#If You Want Blood - intro only
#it's a long way to the top - they finally got it right, but it's the intro only.
# The Jack - apart from it being the main riff only, if there going to explain that there is a recorded version, and a live version, they should at least also tell you the changes made to the live version and show how it's played.
#Jail Break - intro/chorus only. seems odd leaving out the pre chorus of A-D-D-D-A, B-E-E-E-B
#Let Me Put My Love Into You - intro
#Lets get it up - intro
#Let There Be Rock - finally, they show it how it's played without that confusing A chords they used to have that was not in the song. It shows the intro, and the first solo... wow, it actually shows a solo! However that last bar that starts with 3 14's, that ain't correct.
#Love Hungry Man - seems a waste of space tabbing just the intro to this song. Plus, i dunno what the text is on about, it should just say, "tune down half a step"
#Night Prowler - main riff only, and I highly doubht it is played like that. Play just the above bass notes it shows.
#Overdose - intro/main riff
#problem Child - intro
#RNR aint noise pollution - intro, which is a shame, cause people really need to see how the riff is played by Malcolm & Angus to show how you get that sound with a B5 and a B-whatever that Angus uses.
#RNR Damnation - intro/main riff - why was the chorus so hard to print out?
#Riff Raff - intro to break down shown. and does not show the difference in what both guitars are doing during the riff.
#Rocker - euhh, seems ok.
#shake a leg - chorus only.
#shoot to thrill - intro, a riff only.
#shot down in flames - intro, main riff only.
#Shake Your Foundations - I really wanted to see if they had corrected themselves with this one, but they haven't. It only shows the main riff.
#Sink The Pink - the intro is not quite right, but it makes sense. instead of a 3/5 slide, make it a 1/5. and the riff it shows, I've never seen it shown that way, but it sounds ok, maybe it is right, maybe it isnt. I don't know, we'd have to ask Angus himself. The chorus is about right.
#sin city - no intro???? just the main riff??
# Stiff Upper Lip - that is not the intro of Stiff Upper Lip, it's there, but you have to read the last two notes of the first bar then add it half way through the beginning of that bar again. In other words, start off with that bend. God knows what that 5 is doing in the first bar of the tab.
# TNT - intro only, and there is a slight bend supposed to be in that second 3.
#Thats the way I wanna RNR - *buzzer sound* get rid of that 7 and make it an 0, and there is no power chord in it.
#Touch Too Much - intro only
#Thunderstuck - Intro and intros rhythm only. They still have never corrected there chorus which had a D in it that they never included.
#Two's Up - What the heck is this doing in here? As a fan, I like the song, but it's hardly one people wanna tab to much... anyway, it seems ok for the amount of tab it does show for it.
#Whole Lotta Rosie - *buzzer sound* again, it's wrong. Angus does not play power chords for that intro or main riff.
#Who Made Who - The song is finally in C, the Chorus is finally right, but the pre chorus riff should just be power chords, and what the hell is the lead riff showing????
try

plus there original who made who solo was not even close, they have not even tried to show a solo for it here.
# You Shook Me All Night Long - at last they show the intro done properly. And shows the riff properly for both guitars.
Well, thats my opinion about this book by AMSCO. Hope it helps you make your decision about weather or not this is a worthy purchase.

5 comments about Highway to Hell: The Life and Death of AC/DC Legend Bon Scott.
- Despite the playful title, Highway to Hell is quite an intelligent read about Bon's storied career. Ample attention is given to Bon's pre-AC/DC career, with a lot of detail and insight into the Australian pop music scene of the 70's. I did feel that the AC/DC years could have been more thorough, but considering no one in the band cooperated with the author, I guess that's to be expected. A good read.
- If you are going to read a biography about Bon Scott and/or AC/DC then THIS book is definately the one to read.
Very well written. Intelligent, detailed, honest and was definately written from the heart. A truly excellent piece of work.
The author had had encounters with Bon personally and seeked out Bons friends & family for information and had Bons parents consent and blessing to do so. Bons mother said, after Clinton Walker asked if it was ok to write a book about Ronald Belford Scott, "Bon would have liked that".
Alberts, who had the AC/DC rights were uncooperative. How absolutely arrogant of them.
In any case Clinton Walker did a brilliant job and this is definately a MUST READ for all Bon Scott lovers.
I was only 7 or 8 years old around the time AC/DC brought out "It's a long way to the top - if you wanna rock n roll", living in Fitzroy, Melbourne, and loved it instantly as I did every other song AC/DC brought out when Bon was singing with the band. Sorry Brian but there is just no comparison.
Bon has made a deep impact into so many millions of lives and the whole world, I'm sure, still mourns this brilliant artist and lover of music (and women).
Bon left us far too early but he will NEVER be forgotten. He will always be loved.
- A fine body of work by Clinton Walker that gives a balanced insight into the world of Bon Scott. Walker presents Scott as a multi-dimensional person (& musician) and relays to the reader (through factual comment & interviews with Scott's family, friends & colleagues) the many & often contradictory aspects that made up Bon Scott. Buy it & read it in conjunction with "AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll" by Murray Engleheart with Arnaud Durieux, both excellent value publications !
- Bon Scott is one of my heroes, and this book is a poor biography of his life. Although Bon's parents were involved in the book, the lack of other good sources is surprising and disappointing, and as a result this book is unsatisfying.
I guess we have to wait until the Young brothers write their book!
- Five stars for this book on AC/DC legend Bon Scott for a whole stack of reasons.
Firstly even though I'm neither a Bon fan nor an AC/DC acolyte this book is about a guy who really lived the life, walked the talk, did the hard yards - whatever cliche you want to use. For that reason along it makes interesting reading.
Secondly it's so darn readable, you just chew it up. It's a real page turner and given it's got a stack of info about AC/DC as well as the Australian rock scene in the 70's it probably appeals to a broader audience than those beer swilling types that just wnat to hear about drunken exploits.
And that brings me to my third reason for giving this the full five stars. The fact that the author doesn't talk down to his readers. Nor does he fall into the trap of lowering the tone to be inclusive - all up this is a well judged book in the writing department. And it's had a tone of accolades over the years - heck Classic Rock magazine even interviewed the author for a piece they were doing on Bon Scott.
From memory this book got up the noses of the AC/DC institution - more particularly the Young brothers - and at the time I got the impression that it was because the author got too close to the truth and essence of Bon. Having finally gotten the chance to own this book and read it in full has only affirmed my initial suspicion.
An excellent book for any fan of the band who isn't afraid to see one of their heroes look human, all too human.

5 comments about Play Guitar With...AC/DC.
- I bought this book and cd from Amazon.com because I always wanted to play AC/DC songs on the guitar. The book has both tabulature and standard notation for you to read so you can play. The book explains how to read them and other symbols used in the music. Tabulature is very easy to understand, but if the book does not explain it well enough for you, go to www.olga.net for more information on how to read tab. The book also has the lyrics to all the songs. The CD has each song in the book with out lyrics, and then has the songs again but without the lead guitar so you can play as the lead guitarist. I suggest that anyone that has a guitar and is an AC/DC fan should get this book and CD.
- My only complain is that the track 1 and 7 are the same (Back in Black). The 7 should have the lead guitar removed. It seems a QC problem.
But the sund quality is ok and the tabs are Ok.
- Good book and companion CD. I like earlier AC\DC stuff with B. Scott but these songs are good too. I remember hearing these songs for the first time in junior high school back in 1980! Who needs a band anyway. Just crank up the CD and jamm along...
- The concept of this product is great but, it doesnt live up to the hype. There is supposed to be no lead guitar on the background tracks yet a lead is audible on many of the tracks. I can just use an AC/DC CD for that. It is fun to play with but, not what I thought it would be. If you can get it used for under $10 bucks, go for it.
- I bought it for my son and he was playing it within hours and he is just a beginner! Good product!

5 comments about Definitive AC/DC Songbook.
- The tabs in this book may not be perfect, but they are usuable. Anyone who wants to learn an AC/DC song can pick up this book, find it, and learn to play it almost perfectly. People can just look online for the corrections, or try it by ear.
This large book has under 1000 pages, filled with over 80 songs by the greatest Hard Rockers of all time, AC/DC. I only have one niggle, not the minor incorrections, but almost impossible chord fingering in some songs, like this one I found in 'The Jack'
e|---
B|---
G|---
D|-7-
A|-2-
E|---
How the smeg is that possible?
- I have been playing guitar for seventeen years. I play in an AC/DC cover band, and have so, for eleven years. I have studied Angus and Malcolm Young's guitar playing techniques for many years now and I have to agree with Michael Hunt that these tabs are very inaccurately transcribed. It might give you a head start on how to play "similar versions" of the song. If I was going to pay XX amount of dollars to purchase such a magazine I would appreciate it if I got what I payed for. The transcriptions might teach a basic guitarist a rhythm here or there, but you will not be playing like Malcolm or Angus. So if you are looking to learn how the songs are truly played, then this book is hardly any help. I wont go into technical detail about what I found to be transcribed incorrectly, but I will say whoever did the transcriptions knew nothing about AC/DC or the classic Young brothers style. I was able to borrow this book from my local library, if you can, do so too. In the long run this book will teach you some AC/DC songs. But if you want to play just like Malcolm Young or the worlds oldest schoolboy, then I recommend you look elsewhere then this collection of tab.
TO OWEN HOWARD: You have a prime exsample. Because that is only one of many incorect transscibes. the correct way is to play that part of The Jack is;
E-------
B-------
G-------
D-------
A--12---
E--7----
but that is only one guitar. The other plays something different which this magazine does not even reffer to in the slightest way. It says both guitars do the same thing. No they don't.
- Saved almost $20 by purchasing online when compared to local stores. Product is exactly as advertised.
- I was so excited to find this book because it was such a great collection of AC/DC songs all in one place. Then I started to play a few of the tabs and thought huh? This is way off. I'm no AC/DC expert so I did a bunch of research online and sure enough, I confirmed from countless other reviews that this book is far from accurate.
What a disappointment.
- Dispite what some reviewers have said, this book has great tabs ... I am no "guitar hero" but when I play the tabs in this book, I can play along with the CD and it sounds good to me. This book has eighty five songs in it. EIGHTY-FIVE! How can you go wrong? It has all of my favorites including "Highway to Hell", "Hells Bells", "Dirty Deeds", High Voltage", "It's a Long Way to the Top", "You Shook Me", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Stiff Upper Lip", TNT", "Heatseeker" and 75 others. If you want to play AC/DC and have some fun doing it, this may be the only book you need.
