5 comments about SporTube Series 3 Snowboard or Multi-Ski Travel Case.
- I guess I should have expected it, but this case is heavy (and I'm no weak fluffy bunny). Empty - it's heavy. Filled - it's ridiculously heavy. It's more suited for taking on car trips but I wouldn't recommend flying with it. It's easier to rent your snowboard/skis on the slopes than try and drag this behemoth around unless you're really hardcore attached to your gear. So we're using it to store our gear but we won't be flying anywhere with it.
There's some kind of service that will ship your SporTube to your destination but for the money, hassle and lugging it around it's still probably better to rent, unfortunately.
- This case is bomber, nothing else can compare with the protection that it affords your expensive snowsports equipment during travel. Yes, it is heavy-I took it to Colorado with two complete setups(2 snowboards with bindings and 2 pairs of boots) and it weighed in right at 50 pounds, but then again I never worried for a second that my boards would be damaged in transit. I did not have the optional pull handle that atttaches to the nose of the case, but it would have made things MUCH easier. Pulling the case by the handle that comes standard puts a great deal of strain on your arm. For the price of this case, the pull handle should be included, and if so would rank 5 stars. I highly recommend this case, especially for airline travel and shipping. Plus you can cover it with tons of stickers.
- The Sport-Tube is an excellent travel case and has worked well for me. I recently bought a second one after an airline dropped mine off of a plane and crushed in a corner and bent the wheels. My gear came through unscathed. Prior to that extreme abuse the case had held up with no damage after at least a dozen trips.
Airlines are now enforcing the 50-pound weight restriction on snowboard cases. My old DaKine was so big that with 2 boards and all my gear in it would sometimes tip the scales at close to 60-pounds. Besides being light the sport tube is pretty water tight and can be strapped to a roof rack without leaking.
A very good product.
- This case is great - nothing else can compare with the protection that it affords your expensive ski equipment during travel. The optional pull handle that atttaches to the nose of the case should make a significant difference, as pulling the case by the handle that comes standard isn't comfortable.
I agree with other reviewers that for the price of this case, the pull handle should be a standard feature.
Recommend for airline travel and shipping. Note that new check in costs in some of the airlines.
- Used the SporTube 3 for my recent trip to Baja and nothing got damaged.
Takes a bit of tinkering to get all the gear in, but I can load my spearguns, wetsuit, carbon fins, and the rest of my gear, minus the weight belt, in with room to spare.
Keeping it under the 50lb weight limit can be stretch, but what does it cost you if the airlines damage your gear??? Could be a trip ender in some instances.
A must have for blue water speargun protection.
