5 comments about Better Bouldering (How To Climb Series).
- Sherman the Vermin scores again with this wonderful book on the sport of bouldering. A life-long boulderer and a gifted smart-aleck, Sherman lays it out in a fun and informative style that will give you all the tricks of the trade while keeping you chuckling the whole way through.
- Having come from a traditional climbing background, and having discovered John Gill through Pat Ament during my peak, I evolved into a boulderer for the sake of bouldering, rather than just training for traditional climbing. Why? For me personally, bouldering was the obvious channel for a mortal being to follow while coping with the reality that I am a maturing human. Because the nectar of laying hands on Mother Earth's various forms of lithified artwork was never to evaporate, the need to ascend soaring heights of the stuff has. In short, no more Sentinel Mental Journey's. John Sherman has written an honest, humorous, and quality book that describes the nuances involved with high limit bouldering. Of particular credit is John's painfully objective efforts at describing even those controversial elements of bouldering that exist such as cheater stones, route altering and manufacturing, etc. Don't despair John, it was the right thing to do. The beauty of bouldering is in its inherent variety of ways it can be approached. John Sherman does not advocate one way or the other but does indeed get his beliefs across to the reader without appearing too evangelistic. That is noble. So whether you choose to boulder nude without shoes or chalk, or if you choose to approach bouldering with a flak jacket, John Sherman's book epitomizes its title, Better Bouldering. He should be proud of this book and you should buy it and read it if you too decide that you don't want anymore Sentinel Mental Journeys.
- this book would be great for someone who has never seen a problem in their life but i've been bouldering for about 5 months and I'm working V5 problems and this book didn't tell me anything i didn't know. I'm not saying i know everything but the information given can and should have been attained after a few months of serious climbing. Again i'm sure the author knows more than i will ever know but he didn't go past the "duh" advice in his book. Waste of money for advanced climber seeking improvement. Great for green climber looking to get started. Rock on. Nice move. Go static.
- For anyone who doesn't know, bouldering is a branch of rock climbing in which no ropes or harnesses are used. Because of this, the climber usually doesn't go more than a dozen feet up and should have pads and a spotter ready to help should he or she fall.
That being said, trying to teach someone how to become a better rock climber (or boulderer) is like trying to teach somebody to drive a manual transmission car from a book. It's no substitute for actually being out there, trying what works and what doesn't, and learning from your own mistakes.
That being said, this book gets the job done as best it can, and it even acknowledges the fact that the best skill honing and development will come not from reading, but from hands-on practicing. Author John Sherman definitely knows his stuff, and this book gives a good overview of virtually the entire bouldering world. It would have been nice to have more pictures and diagrams, just because there's so much to benefit from visual aids in this sport.
Unfortunately for anyone who is already a skilled boulderer, this book will be of little help in furthering one's craft. It primarily targets individuals who are new to the sport and rather unfamiliar or of a novice-level with the concept. But then again, anyone who is already a well-skilled boulderer should know that "How to" books are probably not the answer to fine-tuning his or her skills.
If you're someone looking to get a little more into bouldering, this book will help you take the plunge. Be sure to read the section on safety and caution first, as it can be a dangerous sport to those who are careless or reckless.
- I own two books on the subject of climbing. I'm a career nerd, and as such, I typically amass an extensive library on the subjects that interest me. Not surprisingly, about twelve years ago when I first began climbing, I set out to aquire as much literature on the sport as possible. Now, more than a decade later, my climbing library includes a mere two books: Performance Rock Climbing by Dale Goddard and Udo Neumann, and Better Bouldering by John Sherman. Sherman's stringent attention to detail and wealth of bouldering experience are evident in the outstanding quality of his work. This book is easy to read thanks to Sherman's light-hearted, humorous, and personal style of presentation. The treatment of the subject matter is thorough and even entertaining. I re-read this book annually and recommend it to every boulderer that I meet.

- We live in the south, so this dryer was purchased to dry boots that have gotten wet with rain water, not snow. My husband has already used it twice and really loves it. I was worried it wouldn't be that great because the price was very good, but it seems to do just fine!
- I bought this for my 10" military style boots and it does a great job without drying out the leather. And it's completely silent. The warmth just flows up into the boots drying them fast.
- Does what it says. Dries your boots over night. Havent had my boots real wet tho, only normal after work drying. Gave it five stars cause it was the cheapest convection style boot dryer which was recommended by red wing shoes.but any how, tips: It stinks when you first put ur boots on the dryer, i keep mine on my inclosed porch cause they smell for at least an hour, maybe it is just me. Make sure you have a semi warm and well vented area or you will smell it. If its too cold it doesnt dry as well. I Have had to throw away boots before cause of smell from long hours in the field, seems to have it in check so far, oh and dont make the mistake that i did and think it was going to be instant, it takes at least 5 hours most the time some times 7 or 8. Plan on buying a dual unit or better unit if you plan on drying more than one pair, if this one ever breaks i will for sure.

- I don't think I got the right color or at least it wasn't what I thought it was, but it was probably my fault. Great service on your part and fast return and refund.
- I went to the trusty Amazon site AFTER checking prices locally. The Amazon price was more than half of the price lower than I could find locally. They arrived five days after order. I used them in a recent ski trip to Utah and they functioned remarkably well. They were glare resistant and did not fog up.

- Great tool for anyone traveling on business, but needing to carry along sports equipment for customer events, corporate retreats or the like.
Fits pair of skis plus boots and clothing to allow business traveler to keep all his work attire separate at all times during the trip.
If used with a light travel golf bag, also accommodates all of your golf equipment, shoes and clothing.

- Easy and convenient to use. Light weight. A must to protect and carry your valuable skis
- I just used the sporttube for the first time last week flying to Utah. It contained and protected my skis totally. I never worried about them for a minute. I highly recomment the sporttube to all skiers who travel with their skis.
- You can't get much in this container besides skis and poles (perhaps socks, gloves, hats, and other small clothing items), but it does protect your equipment well. Also, it's too bulky to fit through the pass-through opening present in some rear seats. You'll have to either take your skis/poles out of the container to fit through the pass-through (and then re-package them in the carrier when you get to the airport) or fold down the rear seat to accommodate the carrier. So, if you don't have a split fold-down rear seat in your vehicle and have more than 3-4 people in your car it will be difficult to get this carrier in your vehicle.

- It's a comfortable handle - what more is there to say? I just wish it was included in the Sportube purchase rather than being another thing to buy....
- The pull handle works better to transport the sportube through an airport than pulling it by the carrying strap.
- The handle is really good, the grip is extremely comfy. Too bad it doesn't come standard with the Sportstube...

5 comments about CamelBak .75L Sports Bottle.
- its a water bottle. and does everything it purports to, absolutely perfectly. it's one of my favorite things. never leaks, it's handy and cool looking. it's freakin sweet.
- This thing is great, it is a little smaller than most Nalgene type bottles so it fits in a car's cupholder. For the times you need a bigger bottle the lid fits on a regular 1 Litre Nalgene Bottle or something similar. The mouthpiece is the same leakproof design found on camelbak packs and you can use it to sip out of a straw or if you prefer remove the straw to tip and drink. It does not spill on you when you drink and is easy to carry. And on top of it all it looks cool. I love it.
- i take this to the gym, it holds water and has a large enough opening for ice. i like the sippy cup configuration because i dont have to tip it up to drink, just suck like a straw. good job camelbak
- These bottles are great. High quality. Love the straw which lets me drink without tipping my head back when I ride.
- I've been looking for just the right water bottle for a long time now. The screw top lids are loud when trying to get a sip in class, and hard to take off while driving or walking. The large open lids you can't drink from while moving or on a treadmill. The straw and mouth piece took a day to get used to but I love this feature. You don't have to tilt your head back to drink so if you are in class or driving you can keep your eyes forward. The lid is truly leak proof if you screw it on properly and the straw doesn't leak at all. The piece all come apart for easy cleaning. The 750 mL is the prefect size. It fits in my car cup holder and its not that heavy dragging around on my backpack. There are makings on the sides that are pretty accurate if you want to mix together one of those flavor packets to go. I clip it to my backpack with a rock climbing clip thing and the plastic hook is strong and won't wear out.

5 comments about SporTube Series 3 Snowboard or Multi-Ski Travel Case.
- I used this case to transport shotguns on a Delta flight for a Regional Trap Shoot. It worked fine - no problems with the guns, Delta or TSA. I could also pack other accessories in the same case along with my shooting clothes. I bought the extra handle - which is a must - it has wheels, so I was able to pull it everywhere with ease. To my amazement - the Airlines didn't destroy it - in fact it still looked new after the round trip - and all contents arrived in perfect condition.
- I did extensive searches for a ski bag and Sportube is the bag recommended by most reviews if you want the best protection for your gear. And after recieving the bag, it is clearly a very sturdy bag and I have no doubt it will hold up well,so I have no regrets in purchasing a sportube.
What I do now realize that one cannot put three pairs of skis and poles in it without going over the Airlines 50Lb weight limit.
So for snowboarders this is a great bag, but for skiers I would suggest buy the sportube 2 instead because you really can't use it for 3 pairs of skis.
- I guess I should have expected it, but this case is heavy (and I'm no weak fluffy bunny). Empty - it's heavy. Filled - it's ridiculously heavy. It's more suited for taking on car trips but I wouldn't recommend flying with it. It's easier to rent your snowboard/skis on the slopes than try and drag this behemoth around unless you're really hardcore attached to your gear. So we're using it to store our gear but we won't be flying anywhere with it.
There's some kind of service that will ship your SporTube to your destination but for the money, hassle and lugging it around it's still probably better to rent, unfortunately.
- This case is bomber, nothing else can compare with the protection that it affords your expensive snowsports equipment during travel. Yes, it is heavy-I took it to Colorado with two complete setups(2 snowboards with bindings and 2 pairs of boots) and it weighed in right at 50 pounds, but then again I never worried for a second that my boards would be damaged in transit. I did not have the optional pull handle that atttaches to the nose of the case, but it would have made things MUCH easier. Pulling the case by the handle that comes standard puts a great deal of strain on your arm. For the price of this case, the pull handle should be included, and if so would rank 5 stars. I highly recommend this case, especially for airline travel and shipping. Plus you can cover it with tons of stickers.
- The Sport-Tube is an excellent travel case and has worked well for me. I recently bought a second one after an airline dropped mine off of a plane and crushed in a corner and bent the wheels. My gear came through unscathed. Prior to that extreme abuse the case had held up with no damage after at least a dozen trips.
Airlines are now enforcing the 50-pound weight restriction on snowboard cases. My old DaKine was so big that with 2 boards and all my gear in it would sometimes tip the scales at close to 60-pounds. Besides being light the sport tube is pretty water tight and can be strapped to a roof rack without leaking.
A very good product.

- This Yakima roof rack system works great and I highly recommend it. I bought one for my Mazda 3 and have used it, along with a Yakima roof rack for 2 cross country ski trips (I live a Florida, skiing is far away). The rack hasn't shifted an inch and was relatively easy to install. Yakima has a product guide on their site to make sure you order the right pieces for your model car.
