- I have had these boots for about a year and a half now. They have been all over the world with me, from the desert to the woods thru snow and extreme heat. These are the most dependable boots that I could ever ask for. I have never had any water leak in even in 14 inches of snow or in the rain. They withstand every durability test I put them thru from hiking the Alps to raiding houses in Iraq. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THESE BOOTS TO ANYONE!!!
- I had these boots for over two years, and hiked with them various places around the country and the world. They're comfortable, reliable, water proof, durable. I finally ruined them after tramping through seven miles of jungle mud in Belize and then leaving them in a garbage bag in my pack for a week--so now I'm here to buy another pair.
- I write this review to inform potential buyers of a serious problem I have with this shoe. First, let me get the positives out of the way. These boots are light, extremely comfortable, durable, and water resistant. They support my feet relatively well with a 25-30lb pack. I haven't had any blisters or any arch problems with these shoes. I hike on all types of terrain.
Now on to an important negative. The soles are not very good. They do not grip well on slick rock. In fact, I've almost slipped on wet concrete on a sidewalk. I've also walked on wet flat painted stairs and could not get a grip. These are rated 3 season but I would argue they are 2 season. Rain + soles = bad news. Although not designed for winter, I've walked outside in the snow and in ice and the soles do not grip well.
I also own a Keen sandal so I tried to walk on the slippery surfaces that my Asolo did not grip well. Ironically, my Keens outperformed my Asolo FSN, even on ICE! I think it's time for Asolo to retire these shoes (they've been on the market for awhile now). I am a huge Asolo fan and will continue to use Asolo but as soon as these get worn out, I'm switching to the newer designs.
- I agree with H. Lee's review above. I've owned these for several years and the only issue is the material that the soles are made out of. It is not Vibram. It is some sort of material made by Rubbermaid. It definitely does not grip rock (wet or dry) anything like Vibram. I've been a great fan of Asolo boots for years, and still am, but I think they made the wrong choice of sole material for this particular model.

- I am a forester that demands a lot out of my boots. Every kind of boot out there I have tried at one time or another. This boot performs very solidly on almost all terrain. 100% waterproof and will stay that way with periodic treatments with "Snow Seal". Careful on wet slick surfaces such as concrete or tile. Is a tad warm for summer hiking, better fall, warm winter, and spring boot. Will be one of the 3 pairs of boots I keep on hand at all times. The other two pairs are a lighter duty summer boot (Asolo FSN 95, one of the best I have ever had), and Lacrosse Pac Boots (a must for cold, snowy weather). Definitely a best buy!

- I just bought a pair of these boots after looking around, reading reviews and then trying on five different brands. Here's what I discovered: as you might imagine, different companies create their shoes using different "lasts" or generic foot shapes. These differ quite a bit, which is somewhat surprising. So, I strongly recommend that you try on many different boots before you buy. For example, I've always bought Vasque boots in the past, because they fit my narrow (B-width) foot pretty well. This time, I tried on some Vasque boots, Montrails, Merrills, Lowas and Asolos. The Asolos fit my foot incredibly well right out of the box. They were/are the most comfortable boot I've ever owned. They are also, evidently, very durable. A friend who used to be a backpacking guide and now works in an outdoor outfitting store told me that she had other friends who had had this particular boot re-soled three times from heavy use and were continuing to use and enjoy them. So, the essence of my review is this: stick with boot companies that have a reputation for high quality, try on several brands of boots and different models of the same brand (I tried on some Cordura and nylon Asolos, too, but wanted a full-leather upper so I got the 520s) to see which brand's foot last mirrors your own foot shape best, and then spend a little more than you had planned to get a boot that will ultimately last longer and save you money, as a result.
- I love these boots. I have had them for two years and every time i put them on i wonder why i don't just use them as my every day shoes. They are so comfortable and they also look really good. These boots make hiking a thrill and they hold to the trail extremely well.

1 comments about Asolo Fugitive GTX Hiking Boot - Men's.
- I have been using a pair of Merrill mid pulse that I wanted to upgrade. I do a lot of hiking in the Chugach Mountains in Alaska and need something that grips well, but I like light weight. I tried on at least a dozen different shoes before choosing this pair. I have never owned a pair of Asolo before now.
The Fugitive fit the best in the store and seemed to hold my feet in place, even when facing straight downhill. I went out today, 5 degrees F, packed/icy trail, climbing 900 feet in elevation in less than a mile. At one point there is a 10 inch wide ice ridge to traverse. I loved the gripping aspect of my Merrills, but these boots are even better. The ridgid lateral support is excellent for a boot that doesn't have external plastic. No slipping going up or down hill. Toes dug in nicely on very hard pack. On the way down the lower part of the trail has some horse traffic and I stepped into a hoof print hole. Other than tripping, the support of these boots saved me from a bad sprain at minimum.
We will see what time brings, but so far I am extremely pleased with the support and stability of these boots. No internal foot slipping. Feet stayed warm with just one pair of midium weight wool socks.

- THE most comfortable mid/light-weight hiking/backpacking boots by far! No break in time needed. I'm a 5' tall, female, had 37 pounds on her back and with the help of the Asolo Styngers, made the trip easy!
My entire foot was submerged (briefly) in mud/slushy water and the foot stayed dry (thanks to the Gore-Tex lining).
The boot has a nice grip on boulders and rocks.
Cannot stress enough on the comfort, no break in time needed of this boot.
Highly recommend!
The Asolo Styngers may not be the boot for you so I recommended you try on this (and other brands) before making your final decision since we all have unique feet.
- I just recently bought this pair of boots, and took them directly on the trail with 25lbs on my back. With these boots I went 27 miles with no blisters after no break in period! I was on very rocky terrain, and felt that my feet were extremely well protected. I have narrow heels, and usually my heels get blisters on them from other boots, but the Asolo Stynger GTX boots seem to have a narrow enough foot bed to keep my heels happy.
I go on a backpacking trip usually about twice a month, and normally I just wear low cut hikers. I am planning a lengthy winter hike, so I felt that I should buy some heavier duty boots that would provide me with more warmth and protection. I was hesitant because of the added weight of going from shoes to boots, but after trying these out last weekend, I am almost to the point of wanting to wear these now instead of my normal hiking shoes even in the hot summer months! I feel that the foot bed is extremely stable, and the gore-tex lining will most assuredly keep my feet dry. And for being a rugged pair of boots, these are not that heavy compared to full leathers.
