1. What comes to your mind when you hear "Birkenstock"? The German company boasts that its shoes' comfort and foot ergonomics are unmatched by any other. I had my doubts, especially with shoes that advertise their "hard footbeds".
   
   Well, I was wrong when a pair of these arrived at my door. I had heard so many good reviews about Birkenstock that I decided to take a chance. These are definitely the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have owned. The hard footbed actually feels better than the soft insoles of other slippers. When I walk with these on, it feels that my feet become one with the shoe. (Running with these on is a different story, though)
   
   Since the footbed has a core made out of cork, these shoes slowly mold to the shape of your foot, or at least that's what they say. The straps and the white uppers make these shoes attractive and blend in well with almost any style of clothes. And since I live in southern California, I can wear these shoes all year round. However, if you live in a place where it rains quite often and unpredictably, these shoes might not be the best for you.
   
   To be honest, buying one of these shoes is making a serious investment. At 100+ dollars per pair (incl. sales tax), some might have doubts about these slippers, and leather slippers in general. There is one decisive incident that led me to buying Birkenstocks. The last pair of slippers I owned were a pair of rubber slippers from Adidas. At the time, having just arrived in the United States as a college student, I was looking for an inexpensive solution for my feet. A month later, I regretted doing this: since rubber does not absorb moisture very well, foot odor took over my shoes, rendering them almost unwearable. To add to that, one of the uppers had disattached from the bottom, rendering them _definitely_ unwearable. I've only had these slippers for about two weeks now, but they don't have any traces of my foot odor, and look as if they will last me a long time.
   
   One important thing: since the Birkenstock Arizona has suede soles and leather uppers, the owner must take care to not take these near water of any kind. Wearing these in rainy weather is the quickest way to wear these slippers out. If they get dirty, wipe them with a dry cloth, or get cleaning agents that can clean leather. And in the case that they start to smell, putting them in a dry place with a deodorizer or desiccant of some sort will work wonders, according to other Birkenstock owners. Some people have tried to dry out these shoes in sunlight; I've never tried it, and really don't know if it will do harm to your Birkenstocks.
   
   These shoes require a lot of care and cleaning; the white leather Arizona is probably one of the most care-intensive shoes that I have had. Even if I always wash my feet before putting them on, they still get dirty quite easily. The owner must also be careful not to spill any water or food on it, as well. Birkenstocks are not for the rough & careless.
   
   Still, if you feel that you can be responsible enough for taking care of a pair of these, go ahead and make the investment. Many doctors agree that foot health is correlated with general health. With proper care, the Birkenstock Arizona will pay off in the long term. I plan on ordering another pair of these for my brother in South Korea; I am confident that he will like it.
   
   You will like it, too.



2. Maintained with cork protector (a must for resealing the cork when needed)and they held up for years in fact I still wear them,
   however they at their end of life extended by goop glue and black die as the Suede started to look crappy but what other daily worn sandel has ever come close to 16 years so while they do need maintance they will last a long time

1. These are the typical Birkenstock fit ... immediately comfortable with the suede version (Five ***** on the suede.)
   
   However, the redish colored hard leather ones I bought at the same time have a terrible SQUEAK that doesn't go away. I've had hard leather Birkenstocks before that didn't have this problem. I should contact customer serivce, but that's just one more hassle (even if it isn't a hassle) to deal with.



2. Just love the shoes. They cost a fortune but are worth every penny and I plan on getting more.

Recently my boyfriend mentioned that he wanted to purchase a pair because he tried on his brother's birks and found them to be really comfortable. We both ordered a pair online and we love them so much that we even where them inside the house.
   
   According to the Birkenstock website, narrow is a North American equivalent of normal so if your width is normal order the narrow. The sizes are true to size so you can't go wrong ordering online. If you're unsure of which size to order, order the smaller one. I'm usually a size 7.5-8 and I ordered the 7-7.5 size (38). The soft footbed is great for me since I have flat feet and now I wonder why it took me over 10 years to replace my first pair.
   
   This is one purchase that you will appreciate and enjoy all summer long.

1. i've been wearing my old pair for 12 years and they are the best shoes for someone who is on their feet a lot. as with all new shoes you have to get used to them and let them mold to your feet. once this is done you won't be able to get your others off and the birkenstocks on.

2. I have worn birks for a number of years & the Arizona has always been my favorite. Love this shoe, the only thing to note is that while the desert sage in the picture looks quite neutral, in reality it is a pale, almost minty green...

1. These sandals are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Well worth the money. I have worn them everyday since they came in the mail. I just love them.



2. I found these Birkenstocks through an amazon search, and was thrilled by the price. (About $40) I wear these shoes indoors nearly every day, so I have become attached to arizona birks because of their comfort and versility throughout the seasons. (Yes I wear socks with them) This particular variety appears to fit just a little differently at the toes than my last pair, but I am not sure if that is because the last ones had worn down by the end, or if this sizing is a little different.
   Either way, they are Birkenstocks, that outstanding brand of shoe, that lasts for years, and are so good to your feet.



3. I got these for a whopping $25 including shipping, and as Birkenstock fans know, that was a bargain! However, the size says it should fit women 5-5.5 and I usually fit size 6-6.5, yet they are still a size too big. I will have to live with them like that since this was the only size at the $25 discontinued price. If you are going to buy Birks online, I recommend going to a local store and trying them on for size first.



4. Obviously, Birkies are great sandals, they take a bit of getting used to, don't give up on them, your feet will thank you! The color makes all the difference, it makes the sandals a bit more modern and girly - less granola like! I'm a convert now, my feet are happy and my back is too! I even bought a pair of the Birkie clogs for around the house, to wear instead of slippers, expensive slippers I know but worth it on my ceramic tile floors, you don't realize the amount of time you spend on your feet at home, it's just as important to have good shoes there as well - go with a fun color to give the sandals an updated look!



5. Buyer beware! My Birkenstocks were in the car this spring and it turned into a 90 degree day. The cork and sole literally separated and shrank! Turns out this is a common flaw. There's a warning on the website and in the care of Birkenstocks info you receive...but it isn't covered by warranty. I wouldn't buy another pair because I would like my sandals to survive in the heat of Montana...
