5 comments about The Zen of Organizing.
- The author notes that most of her clients have assistants and/or housekeepers. I have neither, but am my own in both cases. I did find the book inspirational, though not a read from cover to cover. I'm flipping through several organizational/clutter buster books at one time.
- I expected more from this book. I was looking for some great organizing tips, but there was nothing new in this book that I haven't read elsewhere before. Many of the tips (and the zen philosophy on being organized) could be found for free on the internet. If you're new to organizing or not very organized at all, this book may help you. If you're pretty organized to start with, you won't find anything special.
- Yes, I need to organize my office - but I also need to organize my books, my closet, the pantry shelves, and the cat's toys. I am cognizant of the deep psychological implications of constant clutter, but I would prefer to get my space organized before I meditate on that aspect of the disarray. And I totally agree with the reviewer's comment about overpriced dinner parties. Let's get real! No `housewives, corporate execs and business people' I know would fritter that amount of money on dinner, nor do I consider movie stars or producers to be realistic role models for organized living.
For me, this book neither confronted nor eased the painful step-by-creaking step journey of sifting your precious possessions, only to come to the realization that what you have been keeping is not a `memento' but an anchor to your past and a hindrance to your progress. Far from her desire to bridge the gap between Thomas Moore and Suze Orman, she made the environment more confusing. This book is neither `Zen' nor `die-hard' organizing; it's more like `Reality TV'.
Although some people doubt the authenticity of Feng Shui, it has been an essential planning tool in the Far East for thousands of years - chicanery cannot survive that long! A fundamental precept is that one must be organized, uncluttered, to succeed in life. A FAR better anti-clutter book is 'Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life' by Karen Rauch Carter. It does lack an index, but her ideas are much more concrete and, no, you do not have to paint your front door purple.
For an introspective, esoteric view of clutter, read 'Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui' or `Creating Sacred Space With Feng Shui', both by Karen Kingston. Although it is not an instruction book on organization, `Sacred Space' by Denise Linn also confronts on the deep-seated malaise of clutter.
- I bought this book because I am always looking for hints to help me help my ADHD husband become more organized. This book was more about Regina Leeds than about organizing. And she characterized those with ADD/ADHD as "lazy" which demonstrated her enormous ignorance. I tossed it into the recycling bin.
- I have been so excited about Regina Leeds books. The first one I read was "The Zen of Organizing". After reading her first book, I had to find her other books. She is sensational.
BTW, I believe her newest book, "One YEar to an Organized Life," is the best of all and really motivates one to be on the mark and ready to go toward an organized life.
I am really going to be refined in this new organized life by the end of this year!!!

- Comfort for mothers and women who think they must be and do all. A call to prioritize our lives and draw closer to Christ. Pages 30 and 31 are the most challenging words I have ever written about pride as related to being too busy. At the end of each chapter are prayers and journaling starters. They were invaluable as I made my way throught this book. Take the time out of your busy schedule to read, you won't regret it !!

- This is an excellent "real life" text for gaining control in today's fast paced world. The author avoids many of the errors that make some other time managment texts seem distant and unreal. This text is for real people with real lives. I appreciate that this text relates to all aspects of one's life, not only to the work world.
- I am getting *so much* out of this book. Especially the part about establishing a mission statement and making your goals reflect that. It is all about living a conscious life. Making your life happen rather than letting the events of your life just happen to you, "by accident." It is very empowering.
- Stephanie Culp is the only time management expert who really gets it. You can't just tell people how to work faster and harder. You have to tell them how to reduce the number of items on their to do lists. This is one terrific book!

- very practical,my house has plenty of stuff inside, it gave me the force of throwing away a lot.It is written for women with many children, which in North Italy are now rare.I personally am single.Neat statements, useful advice. For me, their ideal rooms are too much empty.
- I was living in the fast lane until I read this wonderful little gem of a book and implemented its tips. I now have more free time for fun with family and friends.
- I've had this book for several years and I re-read it occasionally. It has fantastic ideas. Maybe common sense to other people, but I'd never thought of them. It's a great book, it's just not long enough. I want more info like this!!
- This book is not only a how-to book. It deals with changing your attitude and ideas about organization and clutter. That alone was the catalyst to my new road to organization. Then you get a list of great ideas and tips to get you going!
- I love Connie! I'll read anything she has to write!
She has a great style.
Long Live Connie!

- Although this book was written well enough, with a catchy, accessible tone, I was disappointed by how little of it related to organization. I'd been expecting a volume that would offer me good, concrete hints on organizing the clutter in my house and office. And indeed, "Get Organized with Heloise" starts out that way, but quickly veers off course. Hints for finding a mover? Taking your pet to the vet? Throwing a party? All useful I'm sure, but what do they have to do with organization?
I haven't read one of Heloise's books before, so for all I know this grab-bag approach may be her preferred format, and maybe it's a format her loyal readers enjoy. But for me this book didn't provide the organizational tips it advertised. The final mark of its weakness is that after only finishing it a couple of days ago I can only remember two suggestions made in this book, one of which is useful to me ("five minutes or five things") and the other of which is not (color-coding your pantry). I'd hoped for much more.
- I love shopping on Amazon, they ship fast, and the selection is great....I would recommend this book and everything I purchased from
Amazon, excellent, BB from Michigan
