5 comments about The Power of Focus: What the Worlds Greatest Achievers Know about The Secret of Financial Freedom and Success.
- Good book, it fills some gaps for me, setting goals for example I never knew the detail that was required. At $11.oo worth it!
- This is a great book. I read it until the covers fell off and then read it again. It gives you steps to take not vague theories.
John M. Rowley "Author Climb YOUR Ladder of Success Without Running out of Gas!"
- I have a library with hundreds of books in it. If I were told I could only keep 10 books, this would be one of them. If you are a manager of other people, you must read this book. Then find a way to share it with others. You will find a powerful chapter related to goal setting and performance. " If you do not set goals, someone else will set them for you" The book goes on to tell the story of a man who was a dentist and hated his work. He said that his mother wanted him to be a dentist so she chose his education and career path. Now as an adult male, he hated his work and confessed he never wanted to be a dentist. I see people every day who are trapped in jobs they never wanted or doing things they dont want to do simply becuase they failed to understand the pinciples in this book. There is much more content than just goal setting. There are powerfull tools to help you with time managment, decision making, and sections to help you discover who you are and what you really should be doing with your skills and talents. I recommend that you find the following book as a companion to this one: " Focusing Your Life" by Bobb Biehl
- Sometimes in life, you find a real gem. Like the moment when you knew without any doubt you had found the person you would spend your life with. If you have never read THE POWER OF FOCUS by Canfield, Hanson and Hewitt, you just stumbled across one of life's little gems. This book has the ability to unleash the greatness within you that has been there all along, just waiting to be unleashed.
Don't get me wrong, you're not going to read this book and have your life miraculously change. I believe the authors say it best in their final words. "All the strategies we have shared with you really work. They can dramatically change your life for the better. But only if you choose to use them".
The book focuses on ten strategies to help you reach your maximum potential in your business, personal and financial life. Some of these strategies may sound simplistic to you at first, but putting deodorant on a fever blister to draw out the moisture sounds simplistic too. The point is, simple can often achieve the results your looking for. There's no sense in over-complicating things.
Each of the ten strategies are outlined in their own chapter and followed by practical "action steps" to coach you along. You will find other exercises as well. I recommend buying this book along with a spiral notebook. You'll need it.
If you're ready to take actionable steps in improving every aspect of your life, this book is definitely for you.
Pastor Monty Rainey
- A scattered person rarely attains the goals he or she is seeking. Using the simple strategies in this book you will learn to harness the power of focus and quickly attain goals and results you have been searching for. It is a must read for people seeking success of any kind. Make Today Great! Tom Beal

3 comments about Integral Life Practice: A 21st-Century Blueprint for Physical Health, Emotional Balance, Mental Clarity, and Spiritual Awakening.
- I was pleasantly surprised by this book, considering I had low expectations going in. I'm a fan of Wilber but have thought the previous attempts (A theory of everything and A integral vision) at presenting his theory for a broader audience were, frankly, horrible. This book which is basically written by three others writers (closely connected to Wilber) is probably the best introduction to why an integral approach to spirituality is important.
The book breaks down into important aspects of our selves that we can "work" on and explore. None of the content in itself is groundbreaking, if you're familiar with shadow work the section on it simply presents the basic, but it is lucidly written and well organized. The same goes for all the topics: body work, spiritual practices, mind (i.e. Wilber's integral theory)....though I was glad to see a nice section on devotional approaches or an integral theism, something that is often lacking in popular spiritual books.
The impact of the book was its overall scope, when I step back and really take in all the different practices and important aspect of our human life, its inclusive vision is beautiful and penetrating. The overall drift I got from the book: if you're transcending your limitations, be sure not to reject your simple and grounded humanity. If you're primarily working on psychological/physical improvement think about greater possibilities then simply improving your mortal identity.
If you take the book with a grain of salt, which I did, you will probably find a lot of useful and practical information (maybe even a little inspiration). The most annoying part of the book was that some of the language and design remind me of a computer course: technologies, modules, bubble notes: Am I studying for the SAT or what here?
- There's so much fragmentation in spirituality now days its a sweet refreshment to find a book that integrates body, mind, spirit and shadow practices in a seamless, clear and understandable fashion. Read it, pick up the concepts presented, and practice. In doing so the proof is in the pudding, and you'll be well on your way to experiencing an extraordinarily rich life.
- This book is truly a gift to humanity. It contains simple yet essential practices for those looking to take the leap of faith into the next stage of human consciousness and evolution. It is written intelligently yet it's tone is warm, friendly, and easy-to understand. The team of writers challenge and engage us not just to think about ways to improve our lives, but to actually practice those ways, to do and be those ways. The writers give us a dynamic and effective tool to actualize our true and widest and highest potentials.
The book distills a variety of powerful techniques and information from ancient traditions and the latest cutting-edge technologies into one short, sweet, and potent read. I especially liked the examples they give on how to start your own Integral Life Practice (ILP). This book is a great addition to the Integral Life Practice Starter Kit It expands on many of the products included in the kit.
I think that this book will attract a larger and broader audience than Ken Wilber's previous works did. It is sure to change and transform many people lives. Can't wait to see what Ken and the folks at Integral have in store for the future. This book is highly recommended.

5 comments about I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was: How to Discover What You Really Want and How to Get It.
- This book will likely help you if you really have never accomplished anything in life yet are reasonably capable but tied in knots by psychological, childhood related fears. Otherwise, I think you'd be wise to look for career guidance elsewhere.
- I Could do Anything if I Only Knew what it Was provides practical common sense guide for determining what career you should decide on. In other words it helps you discover what makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning.
The book is informative, refreshing and extremely useful. There are many rich topics for anyone who isn't sure what he/she wants to be when he/she grows up! Some of the topics are: What are you suppose to be doing?, Fear of Success: Leaving the Ones You Love Behind, I Want too Many Things, I'm all over the Map, Help! I'm not Ready to be Born Yet, How to Live an Extraordinary Life and much more.
Besides excellent topics there are fun exercises and explanations to learn what makes you tick.
For example, I wasn't sure if the book could categorize me very well, but it did. I have many varied types of interests and the book validated who I am and what I enjoy doing.
Barbara Sher called us Scanners. These are individual who want to taste everything. She goes on to say "To scanners, the universe is a treasure house full of a million works of art, and life is hardly long enough to see them all." Sher notes that career aptitude tests tend to miss scanners. This book provides some great recommendations to be successful by not changing.
The thread throughout the book is to be true to whom you are and mold a career around yourself! This is an excellent book for anyone who is ready to make a decision on finding their dream career!
The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking
- This book is helpful to an extent and has some interesting ways of looking at the problem. Like many such books however, it is lacking when it gets down to brass tacks. She has you fantasize about your Dream Job (and she does mean fantasize: your dream job might be rockstar on weekdays, fighter pilot on weekends)and next thing you know she has you trying to make it happen. What's missing is that crucial jump from fantasizing to identifying real, practical jobs that suit you.
Also, most of the chapters deal with various types of resistance you may have to finding your perfect job. These can be useful, but again she omits a certain amount of reality and practicality. What if your 'resistance' is not the result of a personality trait, but of practical concerns about earning a living? What if they are not hiring rockstars this week?
You can get some insight and inspiration here, but it's not necessarily going to actually deliever what it promises.
- If the title of this book caught your eye, then it will probably be perfect for you. It is very well written and has many great chapters about what may be holding you back from realizing your full potential. The woman who wrote this really knew exactly what she was doing. Take her advice, which is specific and goal oriented. Her exercises are difficult but they help solve dilemmas in finding direction in life. Inspiring, funny, and a quick read.
- I really enjoyed this book, even though I have changed careers many times. I am what Barbara calls a "scanner" and want to do everything in the world - this helped me see that this is fine, but I have to have my adventures sequentially. It also reminded me that life is long and I have time to achieve it all. I particularly liked the exercise on planning your life until you are 95 - yes, I have time!
I like Barbara's non-nonsense approach - I can almost hear her counselling me at times! The book profiles different situations you might be in, and how to change them. I absolutely agree with taking action at anything to make a change - even if you don't get it right the first time, it is easier to change direction when you are moving.
Great book - love it! I even blogged on it! Thanks Barbara.

5 comments about Tuned In: Uncover the Extraordinary Opportunities That Lead to Business Breakthroughs.
- Remove the examples from the book, and you have for the most part a collection of already known high level concepts without much depth. Granted, marketing does not have to be complicated and it should not be, but creating innovative products requires more than concepts. For example, the first step in the authors' Tuned-in "process" is "Find unresolved problems". OK, good point, but I knew that and you probably did know that too! How do I do it? The authors's advice: "ask the customers"! But I knew that too. Tell me more. "Ask your non-customers". Wow,I would never have thought of that. Tell me more. "Go to trade shows" say the authors. I knew that too. Tell me more. "Ask open questions", "Keep an open mind", etc. say the authors. At the end of this chapter and of most chapters, I fell frustrated of not learning approaches or tips I have not heard about before and of not learning more how to do it.
At the end of Chapter 4, I was going to drop the book, but the examples kept me going. There are at least 50 examples of Tuned-in companies from Disneyland to the Maganavox remote control that locates itself to the ubiquitous iPod. These examples are interesting by themselves. They are spread through the book to illustrate each step and to validate the entire tuned-in "process".
I keep putting process in between quotes because what the authors present is not really a process. It is more a framework. In addition, it seems that not one of the examples was actually the result of applying the authors' framework under their guidance. So the whole edifice is an after-the-fact analysis of successful innovations that serves to justify the author's framework. I would have liked to see at least one example of a product that the authors actually helped develop.
The book itself is an example of the framework the authors propose, and in particular of "Step 5: Articulate Powerful Ideas". This chapter develops the idea of establishing "memorable concepts that speak to the problems the customers have". The authors here eat their own dog food, and it is clear that they spent time thinking about how they should name that book and what memorable concepts they should articulate it in. "Tuned-in" is a sgood and simple concept that is repeated over and over throughout the book so that it sticks in your mind. There is an other one that is used over and over; it is "resonators" to designate successful products that resonate with customers.
In summary, the value of this book is probably in this Chapter 5. At least it is for me. We typically underestimate that the least number of words a concept can be described in, the more powerful it is. "Tuned in" is a useful concept to keep in mind to designate that idea that we need to be "tuned in" to the market and the customer. But you will need many other books and workshops to know how to do it. But, that's what the authors' core business is: delivering seminars! No doubt that they will have demand.
- I've been through the seminars on Practical Product Management delivered through the authors' firm (Pragmatic Marketing). As a CTO it was an eye-opener to see an approach to Product Management that meshed with the concepts of Agile Development in the software field. The two disciplines work well together to create software products that resonate with customers.
This book is not so much breaking new ground, but distilling years of learning into a simple introductory form for folks who might be interested in moving from an inside-out/command-and-control view of the market. It makes a strong empirical business case for doing things differently.
Highly recommended if you're starting a business, launching a new business unit or product line, or simple want to spark growth in existing efforts. You might even learn which existing efforts are not tuned-in and pull back on their funding so you can invest in products and services that the market wants.
- This straight-talking book is a great addition to any entrepreneur's bookshelf. When positioning a company or a product - or a candidate for public office, there are several rules to follow, among them: Who is your customer? What is important to your customer? And how does your service or product meet the "perceived" needs of your customer? The key words are "perceived needs." You must know what your customer is buying and why, and what they want to buy. You also need to know what they are not buying - and why. It's all about establishing authentic connections, or as Myers, Stull and Scott say, how we tell our buyer that we've solved their problems - so that they listen to what we have to say, buy our products or services, or vote for us. (The reviewer is author of two books:Personal Publicity Planner: A Guide to Marketing YOU and Top Cops: Profiles of Women in Command.)
- This book is a must read for all entrepreneurs and their marketing department. If you're lucky enough to read this book before developing your business plan, you're going to benefit greatly. This book really helped our team dig at how we were developing and marketing our application and our business.
The examples of the book are unique and interesting, supporting the entire premise. Perhaps the best feature of the book is that it can easily be used as a checklist for your company, your product or your service. This book must be purchased by you and must be read by your staff.
- Great Book!! Your own personal opinion is irrelevant no matter what situation you are in. You can accomplish more than you've ever imagined in your personal and professional life by observing and listening to others and what they want. And whether it's right or wrong, let it go. Just give them what they want and the paybacks will come. This book is another great spin on the principles of Dale Carnegie.

5 comments about Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised.
- A classic. Principles of getting rich are mentioned. Even though I didn't get rich, it did help me achieve
another goal.
Topics like Desire, Faith, Autosuggestion and Specialized Knowledge
are all essential to get rich. I do feel something is missing
from this book. Great violinists and pianists can also be
rich but I don't think they have to begin with the first chapter:
Desire (for money). They simply have a temperament, gift,
and passion for music. Because the perform well in their
professions, the money comes in naturally.
This book might have made some people rich but I don't
think it's the only way. To be fair, no reading of any single
book can make you rich. You need to have understanding,
practice, and application of what you've read - together
with other books.
I am not rich yet so I give this classic 3 stars.
Besides, "The mystery of sex transmutation" is no longer a
mystery. The male reproductive system and the brain both
compete for the same protein tyrosine (with B6, copper,
iron etc). More tyrosine for one will deprive the other part
of the body - naturally.
- If you want an action tool to use to follow all the principles of this great book, read and apply Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook, you will not be disappointed. You will enjoy the combination of these 2 books.
- There is no such thing as a perfect book. People tend to see things in black and white, well there's nothing completely black or white; there's only shades of gray. You can get some good advice out of most books, even if a little. But there is no perfect book that presents you a complete and truthful view of the road to success.
Many books appear to be unreasonable in some of its content; but lucky us we are born with a powerful tool that helps us discern between what we should take and leave from a book: common sense. I should use it, and you probably should too.
This book is no exception. Personally, I would suggest that you read the first part of the book with a higher focus than the rest. It is very inspirational, and explain a success principle that, even though very common nowadays in other books, is still of major importance. For someone who hasn't read much of success books, these chapters are a good start.
The metaphysics and new age theories that Napoleon Hill proposes should be taken with a measure of healthy skepticism. To believe in them is a personal choice, and you should use your common sense to decide.
To people that has read many success books before, this book proposes nothing new. Though I should state this around, as this book came first than most of the others. It basically tells how you need to have a burning desire to achieve success, and have faith that you will succeed. Mostly, it presents this with an inspirational tone; so if you're looking to get your spirit up, try it.
- This book (with light blue cover with trees, and ISBN-10: 1438241585) has somehow gotten mixed up on Amazon with another version of "Think and Grow Rich," namely the one whose full title is "Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (with a dark red, royal blue, gold cover and ISBN-10: 1593302002, published by Aventine Press). The 126 or so "reader reviews" that appear with THIS book (light blue cover) have somehow been "lifted" from the Amazon page for the other book (published by Aventine)! For one thing, this light-blue cover book is only 244 pages. The other book (ISBN-10:1593302002) has 412 pages - and many valuable features that this light-blue book does not contain!
If you are looking for the 412-page book with the full title "Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised," you must do a search for that exact title or for ISBN-10:1593302002.
- The title of this book is slightly misleading, at least in our age of magical "get rich quick" schemes (like "The Secret"). As Napoleon Hill repeats, you cant get money for nothing. Instead, success depends on actions--but successful actions depend on positive thoughts. Unlike today's short books that say "think about money and you'll get it," Hill spends fourteen chapters spelling out exactly how we can focus our minds on definite goals, convert our deepest desires into actions, succeed, and then--finally!--grow rich.

5 comments about The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel.
- I was not very impressed, after having read other reviews, I expected more. Think and Grow Rich or other books do better job in my opinion.
- If you want to know more about your subc.I heartily recommend these CDs
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
The Master Key System
Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World
The Science of Getting Rich
The Science of Mind
Think and Grow Rich: Original Version
- In the introductory biography which precedes Haanel's work, the publishers highlight at least one reason why you might want to read this book:
"It is Silicon Valley's secret that almost every entrepreneur who made a fortune in recent years did so by studying the words Mr Haanel penned over eighty years ago....Since this book was no longer in print until recently, copies of The Master Key System became a hot commodity in the Valley".
Now I've no way of knowing if this statement is true, but such is the power of Haanel's system that it seems eminently plausible. I would not for a moment want anyone to think that Haanel presents some kind of 'cosmic ordering'-type, 'get-rich-quick' system, and neither is it a book about Law of Attraction. It is far deeper, and more important, than that. Haanel claims that his system can revolutionise your life. I've been working with this kind of system for years, and am emphatically convinced that it works.
At the heart of Haanel's approach is an analytical thesis that was pioneered by Thomas Troward (to whom Haanel refers in this book). Essentially, this thesis is that the universe is governed by an overarching creative process.
Haanel calls this "Universal Consciousness"; Troward called it "Spirit". Neither refers to "God", because the Universal Mind that they describe is an essentially impersonal, 'subjective' force, equivalent to the subconscious rather than the conscious in the human mind. It is more akin to a highest law of nature - a law of creativity - than to a deity. It is impersonal. You do not worship it, but you align your approach with it. Haanel's term "Universal Consciousness" is probably more apt than Troward's "Spirit" because the latter might carry connotations of the occult (though that was certainly not what Troward meant).
Haanel argues that everyone's subconscious is a part of the Universal Consciousness. This gives the individual access to great creative power, in any aspect of life. Anything that manifests in your external world, Haanel argues, has been manifested first in the inner world of your mind. The trick, therefore, is to learn how to discipline your inner world - in other words, to channel your thinking - so that inner creation is positive.
His method, originally published as a part-work, is to set out twenty-four stages of study, each including a mental exercise. Each chapter contains a list of numbered, very precise propositions. This is a very effective, very focused approach.
If you are sceptical about the idea of a universal creative process - and do not believe that thought drives the material - you are not going to like The Master Key System. But if you accept a Troward/Haanel-type analysis of cause and effect, you will find The Master Key System an extremely powerful and effective tool.
- This is an excellent book for organizing your mind to reach your goals. I think the information has also allowed me to remain calm in stressful situations and think things through...
- This book and Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbookcan truly change your life. Mr Haanel's book gives you the theory and principles of the law of Attraction while Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook gives you all the practical and daily tips to incorporate these valuable principles into your life each and every day.

5 comments about Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment.
- This book is what you need if you desire to master any skill. I'm a musician - a pianist - with a degree in music. I was "stuck" technically and wanted to go to the next level. George Leonard showed me how to get there. I have shared his principles with many people who also have desired to go to a higher level in other skills.
- This is one of the most simple but profound books on how to Master Your Life. It gives you a simple blueprint for Mastery. I highly recommend it. Very practical and useful.
- I am a Certified Business and Life Coach and I highly recommend the book, "Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment". This book is one that I often suggest to clients who are looking to master different things in their lives and I have only received positive feedback from them.
In this book, Leonard gives us terrific examples and metaphor to explain 'mastery'. He gives us the tools and guidelines we need to achieve it. Drawing from his wisdom, Leonard is a 'master' himself at educating us on the five essential keys to mastery.
The subject matter of the book can be taken from the title and nothing more need be said.
Susan Samakow, CPCC, PCC
Certified Business and Life Coach
- I read a lot of nonfiction, spiritual growth, and self-help books. Over the past twenty years I've participated in the "human potential" community and consciousness movement, through workshops, retreats, and support groups. Why have I never heard of this book before I stumbled across it here on Amazon??? This may not be the "best," most profound or life-changing book I ever read (a generalization I generally try not to make), but in terms of that rare combination easy-to-read AND profoundly thought-provoking, this book ranks close to the top. Leonard writes in a refreshingly plain and direct style, without relying on a lot of outside sources and quotes. I found "Mastery" just as provocative as, say, James Hillman's "The Soul's Code," and a lot less complex and redundant.
See other reviews for details. But for me, the most helpful/provocative thesis in this little book (only 150 pp.) is Leonard's emphasis that real growth (mastery, self-fulfillment, englightenment, satisfaction--whatever you want to call it) comes in small spurts/peaks with A LOT of practice, even seeming stagnation, in-between. Recognizing this can avoid a lot of frustration. It also emphasizes that you have to love the practice (what Leonard calls the "plateau") as much as the goal, seeing "practice" as a way of life, not a means to an end. This is one of the best descriptions of "loving what you do/doing what you love" (as Rumi put it) that I have encountered.
- George Leonard explains in a short, easy to read book, the simple steps to be come a master of anything. Using his experiences with Aikado he shows you what is necessary to become really good at something. Anyone who thinks there is a quick route to mastery should read this.

5 comments about Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential.
- Ignore the fundamentalists (scribes and pharisees all!) who keep creeping into these reviews and bad-mouthing Osteen. Christianity has been hijacked long enough by word-worshipping Bible Bangers. What did Jesus say about the fundamentalists of His day? "Ye search the scriptures daily for in them you think you have truth." Osteen has written a wonderful book. I also reccomend watching & listening to Joel's broadcasts too. So refreshing! The world needs more of this kind of positive and encouraging teaching and much less of people like "Sandra F." who keeps admonishing positive reviewers with her little sermonettes and quoting Bible verses to prove her point(s). You can use the Bible to prove anything and you can use the Bible to represent (and justify) a miserable and joyless Christianity - which many have! You take FEAR and GUILT away from these people and their churches would empty out and go broke in a week.
- Over the last few years (this year in particular), my soul has been on a search for something. As a result, I've read so many books I could not even begin to list them all. To make a long story short, this book is by far on #1 on my list and as I've said--that would speak volumes to you if you saw my collection. Joel is down to earth & the real deal. He speaks with such sincerity when he does sermons, and in this book. While on this spiritual quest, a lot of the books I've read were related to manifesting-the most well known book being "The Secret". While I thought this book had some good things to say, I later found myself still feeling a void in the way this information was presented. "Your Best Life Now" filled the void and explained everything in such a way that made complete sense to me. This book really will enable you to live your best life now, and I can say that confidently after reading nearly every similar book out there. To Joel: Add this to your file that you read for inspiration and a quick pick me up--You are a wonderful person and you are the perfect example of the words you preach. You don't just talk the talk, you walk the walk. You and your life are proof of everything you speak of in this book. My favorite book of all time--one I would give to friends, family, my future children, or a stranger on the street. Truly life transforming. Congratulations!
- Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential
This is a great motivational book for anyone, whether they are Christian or not. Osteen has been criticized for his super positivism and theory of entitlement from God for good in life. Anyone that bothers can easily ignore those sentiments and still derive a whole lot of benefit from the book. I find no problem with anyone who encourages a positive attitude. This is one of the best self-help books I've read and I've read loads of them. It is an excellent gift book also. I've given several of them as gifts. The doughnuts in this book far outweigh any perceived holes.
- A wonderful uplifting read. You can hear Joel's voice as you read. I would compare this book to Norman Vincent Peale's motional books with the addition statement that this comes with a fresher touch and breath of God's Love given through his servant Joel. Definitely inspirational and a must read for all of God's children - that means everyone, those who consider themselves Christians and especially everyone who considers themselves something or nothing else.
- What did I think about this book? I think this book was great. I learned so much from Pastor Olsteen. I learned that life doesn't have to be so heavy because we have God who walks alongside with us, constantly leading and guiding us. AND, the best part, we are never alone. I learned how to pray with this book (how to talk with God) and how to declare blessings over my family. I often felt my prayers were going out unanswered into some holding tank, but this book showed me where they were actually going and why. It wasn't that God wasn't answering my prayers, He was holding them until the right time. I learned so many things with this book, too many to mention. I found this book to be an easy read, yet so rich in information and examples. The thing that helped me the MOST was the little sample prayers such as: "God, I thank you for your favor, your favor is causing..." Some people are not eloquent when addressing God. Joel tells us to remember God in the good times and the bad. However, another best part is he tells us where WE fit in, and that we are not alone, ever. After reading this book. My brother met him at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo, Joel was walking around with his two children and my brother went up to him and they both prayed together. My brother said, that Joel has a very approachable personality and is a very humble person with a great heart who only wants to help people find God. And to that Joel, I thank you for helping me find God. I do not attend Lakewood Church neither am I Christian but I still found God. Now when I look back, I think the message was for me. I finally understand and my journey continues. Thank you.

5 comments about Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!.
- Awaken the Giant Within encourages taking control of ones life to promote positive change. Robbins has read extensively on human development and has rolled many worthwhile concepts into his book. He explores topics including belief systems, how to change, positive decision making, destroying blocks to success and more. This book gives a good overview of how to take better control of one's like.
The reading is quick, but he could have been somewhat less verbose and get the same points across. Then again, it is a relatively minor point if this is what is needed to motivate people to take control of their lives.
Although interesting, Robbin's book did not change me significantly. Almost all of his concepts can be found in other sources. However, Robbins work has helped many people a great deal...and it would be unwise to argue with this success!
The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking
- Obviously Tony Robbins is a very committed and intense individual. That is worth 3 stars. But, a self-help book should be just that: a book that enables you to help yourself, so you don't need to use Tony or his seminars or tapes for constant reinforcement.
The book is applicable to everyday life situations, but the practicality is questionable. Everything he writes has been said before, and could be distilled down to a few lines that you could concentrate on, as has been done by other Spiritualists. Instead, you need to remember 6 NAC steps, 5 problem solving questions, 10 emotions of power, 6 steps to emotional mastery, 10 Action signals, 6 Master steps to change, and the list goes on. Whew! You need a briefcase just to carry all that around with you.
The bottom line is no one is going to remember all those steps. So what do you do then?
- Anthony Robbins covers a vast amount of information regarding personal achievement and taking control of your life starting from your own attitude and habits. There are countless books on discovering individual achievement and few packs as much content as Awaken The Giant Within.
The volume of content in this book is a double edged sword; whereas Robbins in clearly in possession of considerable knowledge on the topic yet appears to have difficulty or a lack of interest articulating his points with any brevity. Robbins could have cut this book into a fifth its size and maintained its usefulness.
Robbins has the ability to motivate and this book will give certainly give you an uplifting pep talk...if you can get through it quick enough. There are, however, many books on personal achievement that are far superior (Think & grow Rich, Magic of Thinking Big) that get to the heart of the material more rapidly and articulate their intent better.
- It's clear why Tony has become so successful. His theories are sound and his methodology is extremely effective. Those who never reached their goals either failed to apply his techniques or simpy gave up.
Definitely worth your time and money!
Finding Your Costa Rica : 5 Powerful Steps to Personal, Professional and Financial Success
- I have not finished the book but so far I have liked what I have read. He is funny, personnable, and yet he has a meaning behind the words of the book. He writes so you understand just what he is saying just like you were talking to him face to face.

5 comments about The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea.
- This small book opened my eyes to several success paradigms of life. The five laws of stratospheric success described in the book are:
The law of value
The law of compensation
The law of influence
The law of authenticity
The law of reciprocity
The character ethic that Stephen Covey talks about in his book "7 habits of highly effective people" is illustrated at its best in this book!
All these are principles that need to be followed in every aspect of our lives to live a truly successful life.
A fabulous book! Well worth the investment and the time it takes to read it!
- This book is well worth reading for some valuable insights into what really matters in business. But can the authors actually hear theselves when it comes to portrayals of women in this book? Women "make the best coffee," they serve men as happy assistants, they cry themselves to sleep, they start preschool programs that become big companies, etc. The funniest part was in a two-career couple where they've both had a long day at the office, so SHE cooks dinner!
I'm trying to take the lessons without worrying about the rest (it's a charming book with an important story to tell), but as a woman the female portrayals completely grated on me. Note to authors Bob Burg and John David Mann: Margaret Thatcher, Angela Ahrendts, Benazir Bhutto, Elizabeth Dole, Christine Todd Whitman, Melinda French Gates, Indra Nooyi, Christiane Amanpour, Amy Woods Brinkley, Ursula Burns, Arianna Huffington, DREW GILPIN FAUST, Ambassador Susan Schwab, Meg Whitman, and Susan Arnold. Not a coffee-fetcher in the bunch, and I'll bet they don't cry themselves to sleep, either. :-)
- I've been looking for someone to SHOW me how they achieved success, still am. When you are born on the "wrong side" of the track and are ambitious, it can be tough to find anyone successful who can help you, teach, take you by the hand.
Although I'm still looking for a mentor, I've found one in Pindar as I can relate to Joe.
If like me you THIRST for true success and don't know where to begin, then "there's someone I'd like you to meet".
- This book is fantastic and should be read again every once in a while, when you get so caught up in life that you forget your basic principles. It would make a great graduation gift for those just starting out. The summary in the back should be copied and put in everyone's daily planner!
- Upon completing this little book (that I couldn't put down) I immediately ordered 5 more copies. I knew that I had to share this message with family and friends. I continue to recommend The Go-Giver to family, friends, associates and and new acquaintances, many of which have already heard of it or even own a copy. It's a powerful message wrapped in a very human story. I truly enjoyed this book.
