5 comments about Fabulosity: What It Is and How to Get It.
- Really impressed with the thoroughness of this book. A little redundant in parts but well written and informative. I don't know how some of the reviewers didn't get something from this book! I felt inspired to just be me, whatever that may be and tough cookies to those who don't like it. I have plans to use what I've learned to start my own company (small and from home) and found great information on how to do that. More power to Kimora!
- Bought it as a present, and decided to read it first to get an idea of what Baby Phat brand is like. After reading the first chapter, it made me want to throw it out the window! This lady is very full of herself, and it's a bad read! DON'T BUY IT!!!
- I am a twenty-seven year old aspiring entrepreneur. I read "self-help" and autobiographical books related to the subject for inspiration. I knew about Babyphat and Kimora Lee Simmons but never really considered myself a fan. I watched a few episodes of her reality show and became more interested in Kimora. Consequently, I researched her book. The reviews were on each end of the spectrum and not many readers were in between. It was love it or hate it. That intrigued me even more and I decided that I must read the book and draw my own conclusion. I went to Barnes and Noble and grabbed the paperback off the shelf, flipped to the introduction and read the first page. It told of a time, prior to her success in business, where she took out her checkbook, wrote herself a check for a million dollars and tucked it in a box with her most prized possessions. Her intro was about the fact that you have to dream big before anything grand can happen in your life. I was hooked. So hooked that I put the paperback back on the shelf and ordered a hardback copy from Amazon.com and I am so glad that I did. I was reminded of a lot of good principles to apply to business and life in general. I also developed a more accurate perception of Kimora and have come to respect her moreso as a business woman. Read as many reviews of this book as you choose but the most rewarding thing you can do for yourself is read the book...gather your own opinion.
- I wasn't a very big fan of Kimora until I saw a couple of episodes of her reality, I didn't actually know exactly who she was. Then I got caught up, read the reviews and bought the book (love her clothing lines, by the way). I haven't finished reading it, but so far, I'm loving it. Not to say that it makes you see the world the way she does, but it does shine some light on things in a different way: the way you look at yourself and the whole "go do something!" attitude to life, that no matter who you are will help you get where you wanna be, as will the drive, self love and self repect I think she hopes to imprint on all of us girls. I like the way she sees herself as part of her brand and compells one to market oneself to the world (it may sound superficial, but when you read the fundaments to her theories, they kind of actually make sense). In all, I think with a little open-mindness, the book gives women some great pointers on how to get where they want to be.
- I bought this book after I began watching Kimora's tv show. GREAT BOOK--very upbeat and uplifting.

5 comments about Time Management for Unmanageable People: The Guilt-Free Way to Organize, Energize, and Maximize Your Life.
- I thought this book was great. I had the opportunity to hear the author speak years ago and I felt like she was talking to me with her message - both in person and in the book. I'm a very logical person who never felt comfortable organizing in a file-laden, logical way. This book showed me how to use my strengths instead of fighting them.
- This book was not helpful. There is little here that has not been better presented elsewhere. While I liked the first chapter about different styles of time management, knowing this information did little to help me with my own time management issues. Some suggestions even seem silly-such as changing your time management system to suit your mood. Alan Lakein's "How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life" is still the most valuable book on time management out there.
- This is absolutely the best time management book for right brain, creative people like me. I read lots of books and articles on time management, and benefited from many tips. But the fit was never just right. This book addresses monochronic time (linear, clock time), and polychronic time (what creative types deal with). And lots of other key topics that hit home. It answered many questions for me (Why was I always buying some new organizer, or gadget to help me organize myself and my environment? Why could I not just work top-to-bottom on my To Do list?)
I bought my first copy about 8-9 years ago. Now, I am buying my fourth copy, as I keep giving them away to folks like me.
If you are a creative person or right-brain person, you should read this book. If traditional time management techniques don't really "fit" you, you should read this book.
- There are some definite pros and cons to this text. It was not at all what I expected, but I did find some value in it. Overall, the authors were so politically-correct as to be irritating to me, and the worldview - especially in the first section - was subtly anti-biblical. (This will, of course, be viewed by some readers as a strength and by others as a weakness.)
For my purposes, there are two great weaknesses here. The first is that the bulk of the book is simply not practical; it's theoretical. Some of this theory was very interesting, but it wasn't what I was looking for when I purchased a book about time management. The second is that the examples all relate to the corporate world. As a full-time wife and mother, I would have appreciated some examples demonstrating how the theories apply to homemaking and family.
I did, however, derive one significant benefit from the book which was completely unexpected. The portions about the importance of PLAY were very enlightening for me. Having been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue (read: stress syndrome), I have been made profoundly aware of my own dysfunction in this area of "play" or "relaxation." The authors of this book have not only presented the importance of play in a very balanced manner, they have also offered practical suggestions for regaining one's ability to "play."
I am glad I bought the book, but if specific, practical methods of time management are what you seek, you might want to look at others, instead.
- By the time they seek the help of a professional organizer, many people have already read countless books about getting organized, only to become frustrated when they're unable to apply the authors' suggestions. While teaching time management courses, author Ann McGee-Cooper noticed that the prescribed systems worked well for half of the class, but that the others had reverted to their previous methods in less than a week.
Studies show that the two sides of the brain control different modes of thinking, and that most individuals have a preference for one side or the other. The preferences located on the left side of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® type chart (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking and Judging) correspond to left brain thinking, and those on the right side (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling and Perceiving) correspond to right brain thinking. It is not surprising that many time management experts are left-brain thinkers for whom organization comes naturally. Unfortunately, their suggestions are often ineffective for right-brain thinkers, due to the different ways they process information. McGee-Cooper recognized this fact, and set out to write a guide on time management for right-brained thinkers. As a right-brained individual who has overcome traits of dyslexia, hyperactivity, and attention deficit disorder to become a successful author, lecturer, business consultant, creativity expert and business owner, Ann McGee-Cooper knows her subject matter well, and presents her information clearly and with a sense of humor.
This book is fun, and so is McGee-Cooper's approach to time management. She encourages the reader to make important information stand out on his or her calendar by using highly visual cues such as colors, pictures, symbols, or stickers, and to reduce stress by incorporating play time into daily life. With self-assessments, helpful hints, time-related quotes, and humorous illustrations, even left-brained thinkers are sure to enjoy reading this book and to find some ideas for fine-tuning their own time management systems.

5 comments about The Women's Book of Empowerment.
- Many books of affirmations speak to creating the life you want - but few address the issues women face like The Woman's Book of Empowerment.
Written by author Charlene Proctor, the book's meditations reinforce seven spiritual lessons introduced in Proctor's Let Your Goddess Grow!, also newly released. Written in present tense and with a brightly positive sense of completion, the affirmations describe what we intend - rather than what is. The idea, Proctor writes, is to focus on living consciously and powerfully, co-creating the future with our Higher Power.
"A positive, affirmative statement is a declaration to the universe that you choose to take the upper hand and never accept anything less than what you deserve," Proctor writes in her introduction. "Affirmations are always made in the present tense, and they train the mind to stay in the present moment. They help you arrest the impulse to self-doubt and give you more energy to focus your attention on a life filled with prosperity, love, good health, and happiness."
Affirmations cover virtually every aspect of life, from simple boredom and laziness to "legal action against me" and a variety of workplace crises, many specific to women. Proctor also reiterates that every challenge comes with the opportunity to gain wisdom and insight.
- Every day we have an opportunity to choose our attitude and focus our intentions in the present moment. Because of this choice, our own personal lives and all that we see in this world originate within the mind...Changing our perception of worldly experiences is he only way to separate the concept of failure from our vocabulary and substitute a language of success and learning. ~Charlene M. Proctor
Charlene M. Proctor has created a tiny book with a lot of powerful affirmations. The main topics include:
Insight
Balance
Resiliency
Your Authentic Self
Abundance
Corporate Soul/Work
The Goddess in You
Within this beautiful little book you will find solutions for everything from boredom and loneliness to facing destructive patterns in your life. You can find affirmations to manage the daily complexity of your life or create an entire new future by finding out who you truly are and stepping into a new environment.
Example of affirmation: "Repeating Same Patterns"
I keep experiencing the same events in my life because I have not learned a lesson at the deep level of the soul. I am committed to changing my behavior, attitude, and negative belief systems. I learn from past mistakes. Life is a self-educational process and I am a perceptive individual. I watch others as they model what I need to learn . I love all my talents as well as my imperfections because that is what makes me the beloved person I am.
Most of the affirmations encourage you to look at life in a more positive way and encourage a change in your thinking patterns so you can eventually start to move out of negative patterns of behavior.
Lots of the affirmations solve life problems like a crying baby, unemployment, exercise hurdles, lost pets, regrets, insomnia and taking care of aging parents.
As you look through this book you will realize how much you have survived in your short time on this earth and that alone can be empowering.
Probably the most useful way to use this book is to buy two books. One to keep on your bookshelf for when you want to look up topics and one for cutting out affirmations and posting them around in places where you can read them daily. This book would be perfect as a set of cards. I hope the author will consider that option in the near future. You can make your own cards or laminate various topics. I think some of these affirmations can change your life. It can take years to start thinking differently and sometimes life can be a slow walk out of disempowering situations all while you have your eyes on heaven.
If you are looking forward to a more peaceful and positive lifestyle, then this book can help you achieve those dreams. Sometimes it is about taking control of your life, but sometimes it is just letting go of the past.
~The Rebecca Review
- The book wasn't quite what I expected. It was nice but I wanted it to be a bit more specific on helping me for the day not quite so dreamy or wistful.
- Very motivational and interesting book, I would have liked a bit more on the affirmations (as to explain more deeply) but overall a good book to have.
- Great inspiration in this small book. Read a quote each day on life in all areas.

- This book can help anyone feel better about themselves. It really goes to the heart of low self esteem. It has lots of activities and hints and is easy to read. The world would be a better place if everyone loved themselves a little more.
- This is one of the best self-help books I've ever read about self-esteem. It's a short and easy read but the real help comes if you actually think about and work through the exercises. The book does more than "point fingers" at causes of poor self esteem. Instead it deals with practical ways to work through issues and accomplish healing. This is the type of book you want to own so you can return to it whenever your image of yourself starts feeling tarnished.

5 comments about Emotional Intelligence Quickbook.
- I bought the book to help with my diet because I've noticed that my emotions and what I do with them has a big effect upon when I eat and what I eat. Emotional intelligence was extremely helpful in understanding what to do with my feelings on the rough days, and is making the diet go much better. I thought the online emotional intelligence test that came with the book is neat.
- This is a brilliant condensed volume of information designed to inspire and inform the reader on the benefits of developing emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is the basis of success, it allows you to cope constructively with no matter what ever life hands you. The online test also gives the reader greater insight into how their skills can be developed.
Well done. I would recomend this to my clients and readers as being a no nonsense resource. I have studdied and worked with developing resources arround Emotional Intelligence for years and this is good.
A great practical down to earth book which reinforces values "A wonderfuly practical book that will change your life." TRUITY Williams from Wanabelong, author of Workbook of Choices, Sweetest Revenge - a successful life and Feathers in the Mist.
- The Quickbook is the only book on emotional intelligence that is compelling. I found the book easy to read and understand and had success introducing it in my company. I'm looking forward to obtaining the new edition in a few months when it is published by Simon and Schuster.
- I really enjoyed this book and thought that the message was powerful and easy to digest. I've also seen that a new version is coming out next month in bookstores and is completely updated with new stories and research.
- I bought this book for four reasons: 1. Rave reviews here, 2. Intro by Patrick Lencioni, 3. Review by Dalai Lama, and 4. that the work is based on lots of research.
While I agree that the book is easy to read, I did not experience much substance in the book, and I think it only provided a very basic introduction to Emotional Intelligence. Given all the research the authors clamim to have done, there is not much analysis or explanation of what the research means. The 2nd star in this rating comes from the self-assessment.
There are many other books on EQ out there (Goleman for example) that provide much more substance and depth.

5 comments about Z.B.A.: Zen of Business Administration - How Zen Practice Can Transform Your Work And Your Life.
- Marc's book is insightful and full of tips not just for business but for leading a better life. I really think the world would be a better place if everyone practiced his techniques.
Mo Fathelbab, President of Forum Resources Network
- This was more about zen practice and ethics than it was about business administration. I was disappointed. You may not be.
- when you think someone has applied zen to business practices you think maybe someone has been able to put the zen into some perspective through the real world not just again put the real world into some perspective through zen. people in the real (or should i say ugly) world need to have a bridge built to get them half-way there with some new and very straight forward practices that can be applied. (so far) this book is just a reminder how everyone should practice zen - even busy business people.
- One evening when my daughter Erin was young, and I was unusually grumpy, she looked up at me and asked, "Daddy, have you been meditating?" We both laughed and it has become a family joke ever since. Of course I hadn't been meditating. The demands of work and the rest of life had pushed my practice into the background and she noticed. My lack of patience with her, my lack of presence, was only too obvious and she called me on it.
What I realized then is that practice was changing my life, my family life and my work life too. When I practiced interactions with employees were less strained. I didn't respond so quickly out of habit and was able to deal with the ups and downs of daily business life with less effort and emotional repercussion. I was a better businessperson.
Zen is content agnostic. It isn't about family life, or work, or motorcycle maintenance, gardening, or grooming, which is why I sometimes chafe when I see the word Zen put next to some new preoccupation.
This almost kept me from ordering Marc Lesser's book Z.B.A., which would have been a loss because he's the real deal, a devoted Zen student and priest who is also an accomplished businessperson. He draws from both disciplines and we see through his candid revelations how someone who has been transformed by Zen deals with business struggles, disappointments and change. This is the living essence of right livelihood.
Now I see that some are disappointed that there isn't more business focus here. The title, with its play on MBA does suggest a master level business course, but this book is about much more than that.
My daughters are grown now and are working and I regularly listen to their worklife dilemmas, their commitments and how and where they hold back. I hope someday they read this book because Lesser shows us that Zen allows us to fully enter our lives, work and otherwise; to be present to whatever arises and to meet it with our full selves.
So I heartily recommend this book because it reminds us, as Lesser himself discovers, that there is no escape from what we bring or more tragically don't bring, to the moment. That's the real work.
- This book is an example of the approach of supposed Zen adherents who miss the whole point. About the 3rd time the author said "try to do good" or "follow the right path" I put it down in disgust. One cannot filter everyday experience through a lens of rules and regulations. One cannot scrutinize every action and reaction-that interfers with life and is anti-Zen. The author did seem very impressed with himself and his humility(yeah right). Don't buy it. "Zen mind, beginners mind" is still the best.

- ...the other 1/2 is quotes.
Lorayne seems to peddle his other works in _Mind Power_, a book touted to increase one's memory skills and positive thinking. After a careful read, though, one doesn't gain any more information than what a few minutes with a positive-minded friend would yield. Lorayne taps from his other two memory books to bore the reader into inane mnemonics and tricks at remembering names, practices now long-jejoun. At the price I paid, though ($0.00 at a used book store), I can't completely discredit it as being worthless.
- This book cost less than two at the movies. The knowledge I obtained from this book enabled me to memozize thousands of pages from networking manuals. I successfully became a networking engineer with a major corporation. Before I became a engineer, I used the techniques to become a Visual Basic programmer. Which required me to memorize thousands of commands and sub-routines. I would recommend this book to anyone attempting to succeed in a internet based society.

4 comments about Before You Plan Your Wedding...Plan Your Marriage.
- I just bought this book and read it and I love it. I'm engaged and this book really talks about relating to one's partner and how to properly communicate with one another. I liked how it talked about dealing with conflict in your relationship. In the book, they likened the fighting that couples do to a "dance", when couples fight, they push each other's buttons and get reactions that just go back and forth in a "dance". This book definitely made me think about how I deal with my relationship and how I fight with my fiance. Another point the book brought up is that you should never be against your partner in an argument, you need to remember you both are on the same side, going for the same goal (the argument being resolved!) This book made me think about how I treat my partner, I should treat him with respect because he is God's gift to me, not my enemy!! I really, really think this book should be read by everyone before they get married and divorce would be prevented a large amount of the time! I highly, highly recommend it!
- This is an excellent pre-marital tool. I have learned a lot and I highly recommend it to anyone considering marriage. It is a great counselor before the couselling. Our date is actually a little over a year into the future, but we both are of the mindset to have our heads as well as our hearts and spirits on straight before venturing into our life together. This books helps to outline as well as provide details of how to make rational decisions regarding the most important decision one can make in a lifetime. I caution everyone. Do not take your vows lightly. Count the cost before you start to build.
- My fiance and I have read this book and discussed each chapter. Overall, it is a great practical tool that helps spark conversations. It helped us realize more about ourselves and how we relate to each other. There are 2 downsides to this book. One, it could be much shorter. Some parts repeat themselves too much and could be tightened. Two, many of the stories the Smalleys tell are a little...cheesy. But, if a book can get you and your significant other to start opening up and talking about issues you haven't discussed before, it's done its job!
- This book had a lot of good information, especially for those in their first serious Christian relationship. As a 26-year old, who has gone through a couple of serious relationships (not as far as engagement), I found some of this information was nothing new or did not really pertain to me. The middle of the book focuses a lot of conflict-resolution. This material was not too helpful, as I haven't had an issue with this in my relationships and feel that the more mature Christian would have a better grasp on dealing with issues of personal conflict in a relationship. The most helpful parts of the book were the beginning and end. The beginning went over things that should be discussed in depth prior to marriage. The end (part 4: oneness), was insightful in its discussion of how other relationships will have to change (family and friends) once the couple is married.

5 comments about BeliefWorks: The Art of Living Your Dreams.
- For some of us, Ray Dodd's book is a good reminder of what we know but often fail to apply. To others it may open a world of new ideas never thought of before. It is a book I intend to keep at hand to remind myself when I slip back into old ways of thought and habits, that I really can live my dream.
- This is a book which rises to magnificent in it's insightfulness and clarity regarding how beliefs "run us". I highly recommend for anyone who is interested in transcending their current dream...
- THIS BOOK IS SO TOTALLY NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. i WAS PULLED INTO READING IT BY READING HE WAS A STUDENT OF DON MIGUELLE. SO TOTALLY NOT LIKE HIM AT ALL. GOOD FOR THE GARBAGE IS MY OPINION.
- Often, I think we all get so caught up in the chaos of the day that we don't even look at our surroundings. We complain that our life isn't what we wanted yet we don't take a moment to realize how we got there. The notion that we are what we believe and that we manifest our own beliefs about the world is practically alien to us. It's not that we don't see that we attract our fears and that we limit ourselves with misguided beliefs. Mostly, we are just so estranged from our thoughts and actions that we don't see the problem.
BeliefWorks is the product of one of those ah-huh experiences. The author met a man named Luis who told him about his Toltec heritage, information that didn't seem to quite match with the archaeological records and the history books. Luis told the author that he gained this knowledge from his teacher, a nagual. This teacher was don Miguel Ruiz, M.D., author of The Four Agreements. Eventually, the author would meet this man and learn a lot about beliefs, particularly their hidden qualities, the limitations of denial, the secret of awareness, and the power of intent.
- I liked this book. Sure of itself but not too dogmatic.
Really insightful info about how we action with respect to the past, present and how to move into the present moment in a thoughtful way. Agreements with yourself are in motion and making some life-changing progress can be sometimes quick and beneficial.
A blessing
