3 comments about Comfortable Chaos: Forget "Balance" and Make Career and Family Choices That Work for You.
- When one part of our lives is disproportionate to the others, either assuming overwhelming importance or suffering from extreme neglect, we feel unhealthy, both physically and mentally. As a health educator, my entire life has been devoted to helping people achieve "balance." What my students have found, as have I, is that balance is a moving target and never achievable for any length of time. Comfortable Chaos is a concept whose time has come. Once we remove the burden of thinking we have to be balanced, we are liberated to better enjoy our life as it is- a bit chaotic, sometimes more than others. As Harvey and Herrild have expressed, we periodically can hit those pools of quiet water, but most of the time, we may be shooting rapids. The trick is to enjoy the ride. Realize that some chaos in our lives is inevitable and engineer them to strive for a tolerant level of chaos where we can focus on the experiences, the joys, and the stimulation of it all. Having a full life must, by definition, involve turmoil and stress. But stress makes us grow. Comfortable Chaos is a realistic helpful book with some excellent tools to apply to our own situation. I plan to recommend the book to my stress management and "Eating an Elephant' class participants.
- I always thought there was something wrong with me. Why couldn't I find the "balance" between work and family and having a life that would make me happy in all areas? This book put me straight. There's no such thing!
But you can do some things to help life work out better, starting by figuring out your tolerance for chaos and then managing the stuff in life that creates chaos. This book is entertaining and designed to be read in short bits. It's loaded with simple (not stupid) exercises, good advice and case histories of other people. Very helpful. Now I recognize "high chaos" people a mile off.
- This book was a breath of fresh air for me! It outlines a very logical approach to understanding your "chaos coefficient" and learning to manage your life and time to stay within your comfort range. Stress is unavoidable but knowing what my tolerance levels are and gaining some tools to determine the root causes will prove invaluable to me.
This book is very engaging since it's filled with real life antic dotes and simple exercises. I plan to keep it on my shelf and pick it up occasionally when my life seems to be getting out of WaC (my Want and Can area) again!

2 comments about Good Stress, Bad Stress: An Indispensable Guide to Identifying and Managing Your Stress.
- A friend recommended this book to me, and lent me a copy, or I might never have been incined to open it up. What a surprise. It is really exciting, offering a very different way to look at stress than many books that offer cookie-cutter advice on deep breathing, meditating and other symptomatic remedies for stress.
Lenson's idea is to fully accept the scientific findings that there are good stresses in life (the ones that excite us, energize us, let us try new things and boost our immune systems) as well as the bad stresses we all know about(those that break us down and do us physical damage). He offers a self-test that helps uncover hidden areas of stress in life. Then he gives focused advice on identifying the good stresses among them and using them to get into flow, improve our relationships, perform better and achieve more. Finally, he offers advice on how to minimize the damage done by bad stresses, such as illnesses, dead-end jobs, problems that won't go away. You come away from every chapter with some new ideas to put into practice. I recommend this book highly. It presents a really different, original and practical way of dealiing with stress. I'd give it five stars.
- Gave me a new appreciation of good stress and how to use it to the max. Contains a complete stress assessment inventory, allowing the reader to learn what specific things are stressors in his/her life. The book encourages us to think about how we've handled stress in the past and use those successes to meet current and future challenges. Specific exercises and suggestions are presented - ready to use!
There's a lot of insight and wisdom in the book, e.g., there's an "... unspoken belief that through worrying, you will be able to control the outcome of what is about to happen to you. You think you are planning ... but in reality you are obsessing." (p. 133) Lenson makes us feel better about ourselves when we are enduring bad stress. The book is concise, inviting and easy to read. The situational examples are compelling, and sometimes even amusing - this is a book everyone can identify with, understand and benefit from.

1 comments about Touch the Ocean: The Power of Our Collective Emotions.
- James Nemec gives us a comprehensive portrayal of how our emotions both individually and collectively affect our bodies and that of nature around the world. Mr. Nemec dicusses his methods during craniosacral therapy sessions which help us as individuals release our emotions physically. He also teaches us how our actions and reactions to world events can also cause an effect in nature and its behavior to our world environment.
I believe this book, in all its simplicity, serves as a guide and as a gentle reminder to all of us on how the principles of thought and emotion can manifest.

4 comments about The Divine Light Invocation: A Healing Meditation.
- This book is small enough to put in your pocket or purse, but big enough to change your life. It describes how to do a standing meditation practice where you visualize yourself filled with light, then open your heart and see this light protecting and blessing people you care about, or those in need, and even the souls of those who have died. I find the Divine Light Invocation a positive influence, even in events like world conflict, where I would otherwise feel helpless. The practice also helps me stay focused and centered. Clear, simple instructions! I highly recommend it.
- This book describes the story how Swami Radha first received this practice from Babaji. It also has step by step instructions how to do the practice. It is a standing meditation which looks quite simple in its format but it can be a profound practice. My understanding of this practice is that it is like a shortcut in realization of the Self. This practice if practiced regulary and with concentration provides us with means to achieve this aim.
Swami Radha says that if we identify with our many different prsonality aspects which are constantly shifting we will stay confused. She also says that this practice can desolve our identification with the body and mind which is quite hypnotic. And if we do the practice with sincerity and diligence it will unable us to realize our devinity. She says that once we accept the concept of Higher Self, or soul or Inner Light, then we should idenify with nothing else but this source. She also suggests that identification with the Light within connects us to the divinity we share with others. My conviction is that through the use of this practice we can build a spiritual foundation for ourselves in our daily life. This book is also available in expanded version.
- A succint and powerful ancient practice from the east of invoking light is brought to us with much care here. Given to Swami Sivananda Radha by the glorious Babaji, the Divine Light Invocation is an initiation into a more divine life. Wether you're interested in learning about the light invocation for the first time or revitilizing your practice please for the good of us all read this again and again. Invigorating every time this is among the top three most worthwhile books I have ever read. When I asked my precious friend Jan why she sleeps with it under her pillow the reply was 'it just makes me feel better that way." and I know what she means. If you only ever have ten books, let this be one of them!
- I'm thrilled I bought this CD. Just listening to the ladies repeat the invocation early in the morning helps me manage any stress I might encounter thru the day. Repeating the mantra to myself has a profound effect.
