5 comments about Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace.
- "Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace" must be one of the best relaxation/self-healing CDs. Since I started using it I stopped smoking, became a vegan, stopped drinking coffee and started exercising daily. I use this CD 3-4 times a week and I wouldn't want to be without it. Don't hesitate to purchase it!
- i found the book to be good, but the things spoken about where at least, for me, obvious...things i already knew about stress and how to eliminate it; but, the cd which comes with the book makes the book worth buying
- Although the book was a quick read, it was packed with solid information. The CD was even better! To date, I have yet to go as deep in my meditation practice as with Dr. Weiss's CD. This little package is a gem and worth every cent. Enjoy!
- This was easy to read and very helpful. The CD was relaxing. I will have to use it a number of times before I get the maximum benefit. Like everything else, you get what you put into it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to eliminate stress and find inner peace. However, this book will provide you with all of the information and tools you need to do it, but YOU have to do it! A very pleasant read.
- This book helps bring the day to day stressors of life into a healthy perspective. It explains stress in a concrete manner and includes ways to increase strategies to handle stress and find inner peace. The CD with the meditation/guided imagery is extremely relaxing and helpful.

5 comments about Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way.
- This book is just what my family needed to get our lives organized!!
- Get organized and stay that way after checking out all the tips in this book. The simple ideas are very easy to put into practice.
- Everything about this book is organized - including the way Marcia Ramsfield presents her systematic method of simplifying all the major compartments of life. She presents practical ideas that are immediately usable and are designed to have life at home and at work running smoothly with as little maintenance as possible.
First, this book is definitely geared toward women, whether working or homemakers. It also includes a short devotional and prayer at the end of each chapter for those who are interested in incorporating it.
I liked the way Ramsfield suggests targeting one facet of life's stressors at a time and really focuses on helping the reader get control over it before moving to the next. She begins with mealtimes and moves through clothes & laundry, cleaning, and projects. She then focuses on special areas, including work life and holidays.
I felt her chapter on holiday organization was especially helpful, and her chapter on cleaning was a bit weak. I didn't feel better equipped to develop my own cleaning schedule based on that chapter. I feel the rest of the book does compensate for that weak point.
This book focuses more on simplification of the stressful facets of life rather than direct organizational techniques. It is about developing good habits, but does incorporate some practical suggestions for your tangible organization needs. For an excellent resource of the nitty-gritty organizational specifics, I highly recommend "Confessions of an Organized Homemaker" by Deniece Schofield.
- I would have given this book 5 stars had it not been full of dreadful, neatly packaged stories. I understand that the writer is trying to use examples to demonstrate principles but they come across as far too contrived.
HOWEVER, and it is a big however...the book is full of very useful pieces of advice that I have found very interesting and helpful. She has lots of wonderful solutions to everyday problems faced by the average woman and suggests many clever habits to develop. Anyone who puts her advice into practice will definitely simplify their life!
Overall - excellent.
- I found this book to be highly resourceful, and I intent to keep it in my reference librabry for future use.

1 comments about The 10 Best-Ever Anxiety Management Techniques: Understanding How Your Brain Makes You Anxious and What You Can Do to Change It (Ten Best-Ever).

5 comments about Courage After Fire: Coping Strategies for Troops Returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and Their Families.
- As a disability service provider, I found this book particularly helpful. It is practical and to the point. Veterans can find tips on everything from how to sleep better to how to relax and cope with stressors. The triggers of anxiety are explained well, as are the ways veterans typically handle their pain. At the end of each chapter are helpful tips for family members. After I read it, I ordered ten copies of this book to give away to student veterans and their families.
- I was skeptical when purchasing this book, but the topics are discussed in such a way that you do not feel like you're reading "self-help". The focus is not on PTSD (although that is one of the topics covered), but more on a healthy transition from a chaotic environment. I would recommend this to any serviceman, spouse, parent, or close friend.
- It wasn't the war, it was when I returned home and could not function. I applaud this book for it's intent and gratitude that it gives to our young warriors. It is one of the few written for "our" generation. Thank you
-Timothy Kendrick author-PTSD: Pathways Through the Secret Door
- My son suggested I read this before he comes home from his tour of duty in Iraq. It has been very helpful to understand what he has to deal with in terms of adjusting from daily combat and normal day to day life at home. Most people don't have a clue what these brave men and women have to deal with. They cannot just turn off their emotions just because they are back home.
Eveyone who has a loved one serving in a war zone should read this book.
- I purchased this for my boyfriend upon him returning home from Fallujah. He didn't open it once. It's just not a book that a war veteran wants to read, or even be reminded of. He went through enough and all he really needed was professional help. Not a book that reiterates the pain and struggles that families endure.

5 comments about Procrastination: Why You Do It, What To Do About It.
- "Procrastination" by Burka and Yuen is clearly the beginning of an answer to what's holding us back from doing things. It is a kind of behavior that masks many problems. It gives a name to the behavior, gives a plausible set of reasons why we do it, and gives us something to do about it.
In a word, fear is the general cause of procrastination, but the authors do a fine job of unpacking that suitcase. With numerous examples to choose from, it is easy for us procrastinators to find some others who do it our way. And just as interesting, some people do it other ways that we haven't recognized before.
Recognizing we are not alone is really a good first step to moving on.
In the second half of the book, the authors begin to show us how to overcome the inertia of procrastination's gravity. I found the "taking stock" inventory of areas of procrastination very helpful. Following the inventory, they suggest a plan of action and ways to make progress.
Procrastination is a more wide-spread problem than most of us want to admit. Perhaps that's because it hits too close to home. What these authors have done is to bring the problem out in the open and deal with it head-on.
Highly recommended. (Don't put off buying it, now.)
- Finally I've found something that can help me overcome the hurdle of procrastination! I know there are different variations and how it affects each of us, but this book outlined behaviors, thoughts, and tactics that describe me to a "T"! I'm happy to know that I'm not crazy...and others share my struggles. If you think you're having more than a "lazy day"...since I seem to have MANY--this book may help you overcome your procrastination issue.
- I agree with the review by DeLonzor - I couldn't bear reading this book because I found the text very "bogged down" myself. Not that it isn't an excellent workbook for the procrastinator. I decided that it's so wordy because one of the goals of the authors must be to lull (i.e., hypnotize) their readers into being more proactive, and to do that you have to use lots of words and examples of situations, to penetrate all the types of mental/emotional blocks readers will put up as they read this book. Obviously this style works because it certainly put me to sleep! Being a fan of REBT (Albert Ellis) myself, I prefer something a lot more to the point, like "Living Without Procrastination" by Susan Roberts, which briefly lays out the research about who does it and why and simply and succinctly describes what each person can do to nudge themselves toward action. So, I'm not knocking the book here, just want readers to know there are other options. No matter which style one prefers, reading a book on procrastination, especially in these overstimulating times, is good for anyone's soul, and for simply increasing one's enjoyment of the world.
- I bought this in conjunction with "The Now Habit". This is quite a different book, much more verbose (but in a good way) and tends to get a bit deeped, in my view, into the psychology of procrastination. Which is useful.
If I absolutely had to choose, I would choose "The Now Habit". But I would strongly suggest that you read this book also. It does cover things that the Now Habit does not cover very well.
Our society tends to take a very simple view of procrastination, which can have fairly complex causes. This book helped me understand many of the roots of my behavior and, painfully, I recognized many of my behavior patterns. That alone is "worth the price of admission". This book will help you deal with your procrastination.
- I've been a procastinator all my life. And I always wanna why I did it, and what to do about it.
I bought this book a few weeks ago. When I first read the first chapter about procastinator's cycle then I said to myself "omg , that's exactly the same thing that happen to me."
Don't wait any second more , Buy it , and read it . No more procastination.

5 comments about The Open-Focus Brain: Harnessing the Power of Attention to Heal Mind and Body.
- The open focus book is very revealing and detailed. It is a real eye poener.I am still reading it.We cannot wait to play the cd and improve our lives.
- This fascinating piece of work is a both a history and a set of methods for those who wish to improve their perceptions, physical well-being and emotional state. Fehmi, one of the original researchers in biofeedback, tells of how he stumbled upon the technique of paying attention to space (like between the eyes, the fingers, etc.) and how that instantly catapulted subjects into an Alpha state, while no other method worked, whether visual, mental, auditory, olfactory, tactile or a combination of these.
The author provides several excellent and well tested methods to open one's focus, and the effects of this process are extremely beneficial in almost all areas of life.
The text is well written and easy to understand, and I recommend it highly for just about anyone that isn't an Aharant.
- From co-author Jim Robbins; "The premise is that we all hold on to emotional stress that we have carried with us since infancy and childhood. Because this stress -- which moves through our body as well as our mind -- is painful, we shut it down reflexively to keep from feeling it. To keep our stress from surfacing we stay in a type of attention called narrow objective. This fear lives on in our stomach, our chest, our heart and other organs and muscles and causes a host of problems, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, ADD, ADHD and many other things. It also contributes to an overall physical and emotional numbness.
Stress and fear is held in place by the narrow focus objective style of attention. We can release this held fear, and reverse negative physiological and psychological symptoms, by moving into a less rigid, more flexible styles of attention. Taken far enough we can even move into transcendent states. The book includes a CD with exercises that very quickly move us out of narrow objective focus, and into other forms of attention."
...I purchased and have been doing the Open Focus exercises for 6 months. After 2 months of twice daily practice, a pleasurable feeling developed throughout my entire body that lasts day and night. This pleasurable feeling is such a gift - I guess I never really knew what true relaxation felt like before as I was unknowingly stuck in alarm-mode 24/7.
Thank you, Dr. Fehmi for this user-friendly, highly effective contribution to the world. It's hard to believe that listening to a CD and using one's imagination can have such a powerful effect on one's life and physiology. Those who panned this book likely failed to hang in there long enough to derive benefits. If stress is the root cause of disease then the relaxation response is the ultimate remedy out there.
These exercises will get you there fast!
- I was recommended this book by Martha Beck, the famous coach on Oprah. And while I was skeptical that a book could actually help with physical conditions, I have been surprised by how effective doing the Open Focus exercises diminish or eliminate pain for days at a time. I've been practicing the exercises for nearly three weeks and have gone from daily migraines to one or two a week.
Reading this book came at an opportune time -- my doctor had just prescribed migraine medication, but I was concerned about the side effects, so I quickly read the book and started the exercises on the first day. Within about 30 minutes of practice, I started to feel the "vise grip" in my head and around my eyes start to dissipate. This all happened before I started any medication.
- Having read a lot of meditation books, zen books, power of now and attention deficit books, this book is a very interesting perspective on the subject of focus and attention.
First off the book explains what open focus is but it took me a while to grasp it. It wasn't until I read the first exercise that I 'felt' what open focus is about. I feel the book does require a few reads. More importantly, I felt I was very drawn to re-reading it, especially after listening to the cd.
Let me try a technique he uses in open focus. So while you are reading this review, imagine the distance of the screen from your eyes while still reading. Then see the edges of the computer screen yet still managing to read. Notice the spaces between each of the lines of words. Can you feel your shoulders? Can you feel if your arms and fingers are tense? Are your eyes relaxed? Still keep reading yet feel your tightness as you are still reading. Perhaps you can soften that tension and still maintain focus. Perhaps that feels more relaxed and now less urgent?
So one of the ideas is to still function but we don't always need what's known as 'narrow focus' or 'hyper-focus'. This is the focus that uses a high level of energy, tension and focus. We don't always need this type of focus with everything we do. This type of focus is very effective at getting things done, but unless we have a knowledge of 'different types' of focus, we can burn out. We don't always need to use narrow-focus for every task and every conversation. There are lots of other things we could do in open focus, enjoy them more and maybe even do a better job. An obvious one is reading. When I did the exercise he gave while reading I noticed my tension and softened it, especially the tension I was using to hold the book.
There is a cd with the book. The exercises on them are really brilliant. For me, going through the exercises really helps digest the sense of open focus.
One of the main themes of open focus training is to focus on space and spaces. Something like the space between your eyes. On the cd there are 15 second pauses between focuses. So imagine the distance from your eyes to the tip of your nose. pause. Imagine the volume of your lips. pause. The idea is not to say "oh its an inch" but more the greater depth of the space, such as the space between the atoms in the space.
The first of the two long guided sessions is working the head, shoulders and upper back. The second works the whole body. The voice on the cd is very pleasant.
What this book does very well is point out that we are living as if everything is urgent. Yet a lot of the time we aren't aware of it. Our culture rewards this type of focus. We are taught it at school; "stop daydreaming"; "pay attention"; "concentrate". A lot of the time we were paying attention but we look relaxed, or our gaze wasn't looking 'focused' enough.
Theres a lot of scientific biofeedback to back up this open focus training to move the practitioner very quickly into alpha waves using what is know as "imageless imagery".
Les Fehmi has been working with being "a student of how human beings attend both to the world around them and to their internal world of emotions and thoughts" for over 40 years. He's worked with Dallas Cowboys(American Football), the New jersey Nets, and the Olympic Development Committee.

5 comments about How To Enjoy Your Life And Your Job.
- "How to Enjoy Your Life and Your Job" was created by taking excerpts from "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" - both excellent books. Buy those books separately or buy "Dale Carnegies Lifetime Plan for Success : The Great Bestselling Works Complete In One Volume" (ISBN: 1578660394) which contains both complete books. This way you get Carnegie's work in its complete form. I consider Carnegie to be one of the best self-help authors of all time, and that is reflected in these writings. Carnegie's work will help you improve your attitude, relationships, choices, and the results you achieve in life if you are willing to put his advice into practice. I only gave this book 3 stars because it is just a rehash of Carnegie's other books, with material cut out.
- I realize that this book is simply an abridged compilation of HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE and one of Dale Carnegie's other famous books, the title of which eludes me for the moment. However, HOW TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE AND YOUR JOB is still a very important book on its own simply because it allows the reader the opportunity to learn these valuable lessons while concentrating on one central theme, not to mention a theme which is almost always on everone's mind with waking and sleeping: the workplace.
This book was easy to read and offered deep insight on how to work better and smarter. It's not a 12-step program or some kind of money-made-easy scheme. All the techniques in the book require practice, hard work, and a lot of patience. But by doing the best I can to employ these techniques in my workplace, I've become not only more proficient but also more relaxed, and more able to enjoy the job, even to the point at which it's no longer a drudge to have to go to work in the morning.
I highly recommend HOW TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE AND YOUR JOB.
- Dale Carnegie is an amazing author and the wisdom in this book is life-changing.
The real problem with this book is that the product description failed to mention that it is a **COMPILATION** of excerpts from 2 other books:
"How to Stop Worrying and Start Living", and
"How to Win Friends and Influence People".
I already had those two books and, so, wasted my money by buying this book.
- Why did they rehash old stuff into a new book? This book is really two books - How to win friends... and stop worrying, start living. I didn't know and I actually read both books already and I got suckered into buying this. You may say I should've read the fine print, but whatever, it's stupid.
- This book merely takes excerpts from Dale Carnegie's two earlier books: (1) How to stop worrying and start living and (2) How to win friends and influence people.
Rules excerpted from How to Stop Worrying and Start Living include
1. Be yourself, do not imitate others.
2. Work habits:
(a) keep your desk clean except for material related to the current problem at hand
(b) work on more important problems first
(c) when you encounter a problem, solve it right away if you have the necessary information rather than leave it lingering
(d) delegate effectively, you're still responsible for the results
3. Relax
4. Be enthusiastic
5. Count you blessings, not your troubles.
6. Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment.
7. Put in your best effort; don't let others' criticisms get to you
Rules from How to Win Friends and Influence People include
1. Don't criticize, complain
2. Give honest, sincere appreciation
3. Arouse enthusiasm through appreciation and encouragement.
4. Consider and articulate benefits to the other party in pursuing the proposed action
5. Become genuinely interested in other people
6. Make the other person feel important and do it sincerely.
7. Show respect for the other person's opinion.
8. Begin in a friendly way.
9. Get the other person to say successive "yes", "yes" immediately.
10. Let the other person take credit for the idea.
11. Appeal to the nobler motives.
12. Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
13. Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
14. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
15. Let the other man save his face.
The habits are easy to understand and eminently practical. Reading the book will help you become better at human relations.

5 comments about The Secret to Attracting Wealth.
- This is simply an amazing meditation. It leaves you feeling on top of this world...that you can do anything.
- Yes, I agree that positive attracts positive. I also remember listening to the CD and realizing it was helping me to remove obstacles. HOWEVER, the title of this CD is 'attract wealth'. I've read and reread all the other reviews, and although everyone is happy and rejuvenated, etc., not one person, including myself, can honestly say they became wealthy after listening to this, and I believe that was the reason for buying it, right?
- I have other meditation cds from Kelly Howell which I really enjoy, and maybe its because some of the others are subliminal meditation, but I think my mind is programmed to fall asleep when Ms. Howell speaks. I might be rich if I didn't fall asleep every time I listened to it.
- This cd is really good. However, I am a bit perplexed as to why Ms Howell never has anywhere in writing the
transcript of her cd's. People would like to know what is in their brain-entrainment cd's you know:) She should
print the transcripts in her CD jackets, or on her website. I think she'd sell more of her products, that way:)
I have taken the liberty of transcribing most of what she says on Track 2:
You can lavish in abundance, right now. Just imagine it!
The more relaxed you become, the powerful your experience will be.
You can create prosperity in an easy and relaxed manner.
(then she instructs the various muscles and body parts to relax)
Abundance is a state of relaxation; deep, delicious relaxation.
You can relax, let go. Relax in the golden light of adundance.
New channels of prosperity are constantly trying to open to you.
Your supply can come to you through expected channels, as it should.
But it can also come to you through unexpected channels, in countless, unexpected ways.
Open to it.
Open to it, now.
She then counts down from 10 to one, giving you relaxing instructions with each count.
Then she states you are now in level of deep mind.
She says:
At this level, you become what you think you are.
Then she describes overcoming three barriers and explains how to overcome them.
She explains that overcoming these obstacles/barriers, then you will be better
able to bring prosperity and abundance in your life.
First obstacle: Scarcity. She gives statements/affirmations overcoming this barrier:
'There's more than enough prosperity for everyone'
'You allow thoughts of prosperity thoughts to flow into your consciousness'
'Each day brings a constant demonstration of the wonder and power of the Universe and Yourself'
'You are gifted'
'You are richly rewarded'
'You give generously of yourself'
Second obstacle: Unworthiness.
'You have special talents, skills to share with others'
'You honor, respect and appreciate yourself'
'You know your ultimate success is on the other side of this barrier'
'You are magnificant and your potential to acheive is unlimted'
'From this moment on, you love and honor yourself. You think and act successfuly'
'You make the most of your gifts and talents'
'You are able to handle large sums of money, responsibly'
Third obstacle: Self-Doubt.
'You think and act, condifently'
'Take a deep breath and release all the self-doubt and insecurity'
'You are confident'
'the Path ahead is clear'
'Success is inevitable'
'Prosperity will be delivered to you in the speediest way, possible'
'Bask in your accomplishment'
She then guides you to the top of a mountain and too look at all the magical sights around
you and to create and dream from this high, magical, wonderous, place in your mind.
She then guides you to create an image of yourself enjoying something you desire and to
see and feel yourself enjoying this desire.
Transform everything you have created into a radiant, jewel. Everything you've envisioned
is inside this, luminous, magnificant, gem. Look lovingly at the beauty, you have created.
Feel the desire and love.
Then let it go, let it fall to the earth like a comet.
'Know that everything you have desired is already on its way to you'
'You are richly blessed'
- I listened to this cd every other night for 2 weeks; the other nights I listened to Kelly Howell's Universal Mind Meditation II. Everything was fine for those 2 weeks. The Cd's were very relaxing and even helped put me to sleep. On the following Mionday morning, things went to hell. For over 2 weeks now, I have had an ever-present dull headache with frequent intermittent crushing pains, mostly in the back of my head. Plus I have often felt at times that I am out-of-body and have even had to leave work. I know this is from these cd's; there is nothing else it could be. I am very healthy, 33 years old, and no history of anything like this. Plus the morning I first awoke with the symptoms, I felt like I was still stuck in the meditative state, like I was stuck between being awake and dreaming. I contacted the brain sync company multiple times, and after about 10 days they finally got back to me and said it wasn't their cd's and that I should seek medical attention. Everything checked out fine with my physician, but my ongoing research on the negative effects associated with meditation has only solidifed my belief that these brain-wave entrainment cd's are highly dangerous. If you want to research for yourself, run a search on the following: meditation, hypersynchrony, intercranial pressure, harmful effects of meditation, etc. I look back and wonder why I was so dumb to trust anything that would alter my brainwaves. Let this be a warning to everyone.

5 comments about Coping with Anxiety: 10 Simple Ways to Relieve Anxiety, Fear & Worry.
- Very common sense approach to dealing with anxiety.
- It's conscise, but offers practical suggestions. It dosent really go into depth with any one topic, but gives enough information so you can have something to work with.
- I haven't finished reading this yet, but overall my first impression is good. It is straight forward and quick to read through. Recommend for anyone working through anxiety issues or helping someone else work through them.
- This is a very good book. It gives you everything you need to know and do in 10 easy steps. I have read many books on anxiety and all the advice boils down to what is written in this book. I believe it to be the most valuable book that I have gotten on anxiety so far. It does not replace what one on one therapy provides because people with anxiety always want to know how they got their problems to begin with. Once that is answered with the aid of a therapist, this book will help you on the road to recovery.
- Like the title says its great if you want to look at your anxiety in general but its not for a specific anxiety disorder

5 comments about Five Good Minutes in the Evening: 100 Mindful Practices to Help You Unwind from the Day & Make the Most of Your Night (Five Good Minutes).
- I picked up this book thinking, "Ahhh, a small, fluffy, 'try this or try that' collection of tips in a book form. How.... splendid." I am always glad when I find out how wrong I was about a really valuable resource such as this one!
The book is broken into sections - an introduction which explains the premise of the book, the foundation - incredibly valuable section, and then four sections filled with exercises to try. The exercise sections include Leaving Work at Work, Enriching Your Home Life, Reconnecting with Yourself and Others, and Preparing for a Good Night's Rest.
The Foundation includes an explanation (and practice) of the basic Mindful breathing and Mindful listening techniques. This section alone is worth the investment of the book. You could read that over and over (and apply it, over and over) and change your life significantly.
The practices are icing on the cake, a wide menu of ideas to try out and see what works the best for you.
Highly recommended.
- I love this book. It offers great ways to stay calm & focused in just five minutes.
- What a great resource to have on the bedside table - or keep it in your car and carve out 5 minutes before shifting from work to home.
This book has a thorough introduction for those new to the practice of mindfulness. It is full of brief meditations, visualizations and exercises to help you leave work at work, enrich your home life, reconnect with self and others and preparing for a good night's rest. As a performance coach, I work with many elite competitors and business people who have trouble winding down at night or getting a good night's sleep. There are some gems in this book to help work through these challenges.
I personally found that after using the book for a short while, just seeing the book was enough to create a mental shift back to being truly present at home in the evening and not letting my mind get pulled back to work when I wanted to be giving my family my full attention. I love my family and I love my work. One of the keys to balancing this equation is being fully present wherever I am at the moment.
Highly recommended for all. Special recommendation as tool for working mothers who are under such high demands to switch from super woman at work to super mom upon walking in the front door at night.
Give yourself the gift of this book and 5 minutes each evening to learn how to better unwind and create more for yourself so you can take better care of those you love. You really can create big changes in a short amount of time. Who does not have or is not worth this type of 5 minute daily investment? If you really don't think so and won't do it for yourself, then do it for your family.

Author, Selling: Powerful New Strategies for Sales Success
- i use this all the time. Hard job so I need a wind down.
- Initially picked this one up for my personal use. Was looking for ways to detour myself away from the stressful, negative routines I seemed to be following more and more frequently these days. Then, I brought it into my tobacco cessation program- and it really grabbed the attention of the participants.(I would use one of the exercises as a 'meditation' to end each session). Members soon began to recommend it to friends and relatives. Next, I brought it into another program for patients who have chronic conditions and who are trying to cope with the stress of the diagnosis, and overcome that crippling inner, negative, sabotaging voice.
What a treat this entire series of books is!
I absolutely recommend these to anyone wanting to jumpstart their efforts to de-stress, make major changes in their lives...or even, just get that elusive good night's sleep.
