  1. I found this tape stashed away in a relatives closet, when we were cleaning. It was mixed with some other tapes made by Dr. David Illig, but it was well worn. She gave it to me, and I've been using it since. It works great! I was hoping to get another, because this one is so worn out, but its not being manufactured anymore. I hope it makes a comeback, along with some of the other tapes I would like to order from Dr. Illig.

  2. Dr. Illig addresses self image and guides the listener to relases excess worries. He is careful to note that certain amouts or types of stress are useful and that the listerner is in control. I haven't finished the 30 day cycle but can say that I do envision contnuing with the CD. When I find myself stressed I do use the audio program and have started to examine current and past circumstances and am avoiding traps that have caused stress in the past.If you are stressed out while others around you are not try this cd.

  3. This is a very useful tool for anyone who is under stress. If it is used regularly, you can train yourself to recognize the signs of stress and use the breathing techniques to relax and lower stress levels. I have used this program for several years and have found it to be very helpful.

  4. I LIKE THE FACT THAT I FEEL RELAX EVEYTHING TIME I HEAR THE CD THAT I FALL AS SLEEP, BUT THE REALITY IS THAT IT DOESN'T HELP ME MUCH AS ADVERTISED. I HAD A BETTER SUBLIMINAL CASSETTE I WISH I CAN FIND IT TO RE-SELL THIS ONE ...

  1. There are plenty of useful suggestions as to how to make a busy life more manageable, in this self-help book. The chapters are easily digestible, and it's good to read about people who have already turned their lives around by putting some of Lynette Allen's ideas into practice.

Mind you, sometimes I couldn't quite relate to the examples. I CANNOT imagine myself in a different job, earning much more money. Not in my profession! All the visualising in the world won't turn a librarian into a high-earner.

Nonetheless, when one can't afford a real, true life-coach of one's own, then this is a great handbook to keep by the bedside table for self-encouragement.

  1. Naparstek did an amazing job when she created this CD. Not just with the words she chose but also with the music. By listening to the CD, you are meditating upon words that are enhanced with the music. I believe this gives the CD a more powerful impact. I never really thought about listenting to a motivational CD. I really didn't think I needed it. But i'm very glad that I took a friend's advice because this CD has really helped me with my self-confidence. and not just with that but also I feel that i can focus better. I also haven't felt any anxiety since i started to listen to it. I started off listening to it every night before I went to bed. Now i probably just listen to it once a week. It's a great CD I hope you try it!

  2. I have found this CD to improve my overall daily state of mind. I find that I am less stressed on a daily basis and my ability to make quick and reliable decisions has also improved. Simply put; I feel more serene.

  3. This meditation and guided imagery session is extremely helpful for reducing anxiety and particularly performance anxiety. True to its title, it also helps to improve self-confidence. I find it useful to listen at night, as I am falling asleep. Just as Belleruth suggests, I find the thoughts repeating in my mind as I go through my day, calming and encouraging me. I have several of Belleruth's products (e.g., Grief, and Wellness) and I highly recommend all of them.

  4. This is great tool to help you bild calm, happy state of mind. I highly recomend this! Very talanted and inspiring work. Charlie.

  5. The only thing I can say about this CD is that it is annoying. Don't waste your money. There are far better materials out there.

1 comments about Staying Sane When You're Planning Your Wedding (Staying Sane).
  1. This book, part of a series of 'Staying Sane' through some of the common experiences of life features a series of stories/articles/essays or whatever you'd call them from people who've 'been there, done that, and made every other mistake as well.'

The editors of this book are female. Most of the articles are by females, and I feel obligated to make a make comment or two. First and perhaps second, third and fourth -- This is not your place, so I'll offer a few guidelines. Your whole life will go better if you:

. Show up when you're told.
    . Wear what you're told.
    . Stand where you're told.
. Promptly handle the emergency tasks you're given.
    . Stay reasonably sober.
. Remain calm when hurricane Ernesto blows in on your outdoor wedding.
. Don't try to help the groom make a getaway if he suddenly comes to his senses and decides to flee.

If you're experienced with weddings, the next one will be different, this book will give you a lot of humor. If you're new to the game, there is more truth here than you would expect.

  1. Bryant and Harvey who are well known in the field of Acute Stress Disorder and Post traumatic Stress Disorder are authors of this excellent book. The content is suitable for those who work with traumatised individuals and provides a balanced account of research to date in this area while highlighting areas as yet to be researched. This book gives a useful account of methods used in the treatment of ASD and PTSD and tends to focus on cognitive behavioural methods mostly ( in particular- Prolonged Exposure),unfortunately it does not really address biological theories and treatments available.Examples of clients traumas are given and methods of addressing these in a safe manner in every day practise situations .The background theories of Acute Stress Disorder are dealt with in three chapters ,two chapters deal with assessment and the remaining deal with management.Included in the appendix are the Acute Stress Disorder Interview and Acute Stress Disorder Scale which may be helpful to anyone involved in research. In addition to the tools listed in the appendix other assesment tools are also discussed . Overall however an excellent book which I am pleased to say was an easy read and most informative.

4 comments about What to Do When You're Totally Screwed: Simple Strategies for Bringing Your Life into Balance.
  1. Reading this book was the best way to simplify everyday life. Brian brings clarity to life's challenges. I found it to be the practicle explanation of the "Serenity Prayer." No matter where one is in their life, we all can use a little clarity. The section on the "the life model" was exceptionally insightful and usefull. I use this model when I am doing my family therapy sessions. I hope that this book is discovered by many.
    Kathy W, Chicago, IL.

  2. I opened this book with the intention of skimming through the pages, however, I found myself up until the weee hours of the night because I couldn't stop reading it! It seemed to begin as a non-fiction novel but then turned into the most inspiring book I've read in years. If you're open to learning more about yourself and why your life is what it is, you'll just love reading this book. I've recommended it to all my friends.

  3. The Life Team concept is outstanding. We've all heard the "don't associate with negative people,"idea. This book takes it steps further, packages it, labels it and in effect puts on a WARNING label. "Don't read any further UNLESS you're willing to take ACTION !! Getting NEW members on your Life Team...earth shaking!!!

  4. The book begins with an inspirational story of survivorship then gives tools to improve one's own life. Filled with a little something for everyone- humor, practical advice, poetry, and crafted together in a way that you can re-read often.

  1. In an ideal world, it would be easy to go to a temple and sit in the presence of a compassionate teacher who can open our hearts. Thanks to Ken McRae, we get the next best thing. If you want to learn the basics of meditating or know someone who does, look no further than The Daily Practice of Meditation. The CD begins with Ken's simple yet insightful comments on his experiences of teaching meditation for the past 20 years. The next track gives clear recommendations of how to begin a session, urging potential meditators that there is no "one way of meditatinng". Ken also reminds us not to take it too seriously. The next tracks contain three twelve minute sequences. The first concentrates on the breath; the second on a mantra or sacred sound; and the third is a silent track. Having studied under McRae, I have experienced first hand the benifits of his clear and helpful instruction. Anyone can benefit from practice, even as little as 12 minutes a day.

5 comments about Stand Like Mountain Flow Like Water.
  1. For someone who is spiritual, but not religious in the sense that there is ONLY one way, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is going through one (or many,as the case may be) life crises. This book is written in a simple manner on a very profound topic that meets you where you are and brings you up a few levels. Balance is the key to life, and I now have the key!

  2. After the September 11th tragedy, I found myself rereading from the wisdom of Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water to try to find some meaning in all the sadness. His synthesis of the "Ageless wisdom" was very comforting in this time of spiritual hunger. I also found many passages which took on a greater meaning than when I first read it many years ago. I have given the book as a gift to many friends. I HIGHY recommend this book to anyone looking for meaning in their lives at this time. This book is a classic!

  3. Psychophysiologist Brian Luke Seaward advocates finding balance in life as a way of overcoming stress. The title of his book, Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water: Reflections on Stress and Human Spirituality, is based on a t'ai chi saying. Seaward says "to stand like a mountain suggests a sense of stability, resistant to the winds of change. To move like water implies the ability to go with the flow, rather than trying to change things we have no control over."
He says that balance can be learned, but doing so requires becoming aware of, and using, our inner resources. Inner resources include humor, creativity, courage, intuition, and faith, among others. Inner resources "can and should be employed every day," not just during times of crisis.
Study after study has documented the harmful effects of stress on the human body. Seward says many people feel stress because they have betrayed their spiritual nature by not living the lives they know they should be living. He compares life to climbing up a mountain, with each of us picking out the one path that is best for us. He says "not only are there numerous paths, but we each move at a pace conducive to our soul's growth process." He adds that "it is impossible to get lost on the spiritual path. We can only be immobilized by our own fears." Confronting stressors overcomes those fears and brings balance to our lives.
Seward drew from many disciplines, including psychology, theology, quantum physics, philosophy, sociology, and mythology, as well as from his experience as a therapist, to write Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water. He says that "it is my sole wish that the collective wisdom found among these pages serve as a reminder of what we already know, because the guidance we seek is really within us."

  4. Desipte the title, this book does NOT teach you how to stand like mountain or to flow like water.

It is not a practical book on how to cope with stress.

However, if you want an academic account of human spiritualaity, it is not a bad book, but this is not I am looking for so just 2 stars.

  5. Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water, by Brian Luke Seaward, is a delightful tool for spiritual awakening.

Our souls often walk bare feet in the bogs of spiritual limbo while we physically wear expensive socks and shoes, and tread fancy floors. We ought to consciously unite with our true nature, the knowledge of which reveals our true calling, as human creations of the creative power behind the universal order. And once our consciousness has penetrated the depth of our reality, we discover that this power manifests itself divinely as love, as a force for good.

Admittedly, the good of one may be the bad of another, as in the case of a predator and its prey in the natural world. Within civilization, however, humans are meant to rise above this dog-eat-dog way through solidarity: love your neighbor as yourself, as Christ dictates. Nothing could be truer to our life mission than aligning our actions with this love in the most elevated, civilized manner. We are then the inspired servants of the creative power, within the compass of our humanity; and peace of mind spontaneously follows. This peace is a refined form of happiness, unlike the crude pleasure of the senses that is but a side dish and cannot satisfy our spiritual appetite. As Brian Luke Seaward himself says: "Trying to fill the spiritual void with material means is like cramming a square peg into a round hole."

This author's hypothesis that stress is best handled when we are spiritually charged - mindful of our true nature and all its precious lessons on the meaning of our lives - is one that commands respect. Furthermore, I contend that his book Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water - which richly expands on this hypothesis and contains a host of excellent insights, advices, and references - should be read by any truth seeker, even a non-Christian, provided he or she keeps an open mind.

He writes: "Our mission is to build bridges, not walls; to offer a hand in guidance, rather than turn our backs with indifference." Without a doubt, Mr. Seaward is a builder of bridges, and that with the knowledge and skill of a civil engineer of the soul.
