  1. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because it is too "God" oriented. I'm a nonbeliever. It was difficult for me to listen to all the references about God and how there is no imperfect thing. If there is no imperfect thing then why are children raped and murdered? There are too many atrocities for me to think of this as a perfect world with perfect people. However, Kelly does try to instill a sense of compassion and love for others and I admire her for that. I think our society would be a better place to live if more people listened with an open heart to this CD. The day after my first use my husband was much more cooperative with me. It was really weird. I don't know if the CD has somehow made a change in me that has caused him to do things I ask or what...All I know is that I was suffering from severe depression and had contemplated suicide because my life with him was so miserable at times. Now things are so much better. He is so cooperative and so much nicer towards me. It is like night and day. I think this CD has had a lot to do with it....

  2. When I start to feel a little overwhelmed with life stress, I immediately start to listen to this CD (or another on of Kelly's CD's) before bedtime each night. Not only do I fall into a peaceful sleep, but i wake up feeling ready to take on the world.

For those of you who said you had experienced bad dreams or unpleasant feeling while listening, I have had occasions where this came up a little bit too. I believe this is just our (sometimes stubborn LOL) old patterns and negative belief systems coming up. We need to work through these, keep listening, and eventually we will get over the hump!

I also listened to "Deep Healing" prior to a surgical procedure as well as while I was recovering, and it helped a TON with my pre anxiety, post pain, and the time it took to heal.

  3. This is a great way to learn positive thinking while your trying to fall asleep - the only issue is you need stereo headphones - I fortunately had comfortable ones so it did not interfer with my sleep.

  4. Has great music. nice to listen to while falling asleep (it's designed to be listened to while falling asleep). If you mediate, but don't have the time that day, this is a great substitute. In any situation, for any person, I'd strongly recommend this propduct. I honestly believe it took all doubt from my mind that the "law of attraction" works. Believing in it is the hardest part, and this CD works for that. SIDE BENEFIT: Having trouble sleeping? Have issues with loud noises keeping you awake? This CD works wonders! It'll put you to bed.

  5. I have several of Kelly's cd's and always enjoy listening to them. This one is different than most, as it does have the affirmations at an audio level. I have been listening to this particular cd for about three weeks and have noticed a difference in my attitude. When I wake up in the morning I feel more open minded and full of positive ideas. I would consider adding this cd to your collection.

  1. Heart palpitations, feeling faint, dizzy, strange sensations all over my body, burning feelings in my chest and arms and head, shaking, scary thoughts, wanting to scream, visual disturbances, shaky legs, nausea, flu-like symptoms, feeling absolutely positive that "I'm going to die at this very moment..."

These are only SOME of the symptoms I experience when I have a panic attack. I have suffered for over 10 years and in those 10 years, NEVER did I find a book so comprehensive and thorough.
This book is also very easy to read because it is broken up into small sections and seems less intimidating than a giant tome.

Dr. Weekes mentions things in this book that I never expected to read in a panic/anxiety book---things that I thought were unique to ME. It seems as though all of those piles of books that I bought about panic are all the same with generic information. People with acute FEAR embedded into themselves feel a set of symptoms and sensations that others do not. This book addresses these manifestations of fear.

I was shocked to read certain things because I honestly thought that I was the only one who felt this way. FEAR can perform some disturbing tricks on a body and we don't fully appreciate or want to accept that something as simple as fear can cause such distress ---NOT JUST AT THE TIME OF PANIC ATTACK, BUT CONTINUOUSLY. Since we are afraid all the time, our bodies are in a constant state of unrest and commotion.

I only WISH professionals (i.e. psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists) would read this book to better understand their patients. Maybe, just maybe, they would know what to say to a patient to help him/her instead of filling him/her with pills that intoxicate the body. I do feel that medication is necessary at times, but all too often it is the first choice for doctors. And it is mostly because doctors DON'T KNOW...but maybe they should find out.

Bottom line, if you suffer from panic:
    1. Read this book
    2. Find a psychiatrist who has a clue
    3. Try not to get discouraged if #2 doesn't happen as quickly as you had hoped.

I think HOPE AND HELP FOR YOUR NERVES is the only book you need if you suffer from nervous illness. It helped me in many ways and now I can breathe.

  2. If you have read other people's reviews of this book they pretty much capture everything that is great about this book. I think that most of the reviews are so long because we all want more than anything to thank Dr. Weekes for saving our lives.
We all get asked the question if you could have anyone in history over for dinner who would it be? My answer is absolutely Dr. Weekes but it wouldn't be because I was interested in picking her mind some more; it would simply be a dinner that I would have so lavishly prepared and serve to her in my greatest appreciation of her work. I would hope that she enjoyed every bite.
The book really is that good.

  3. This book is simply a classic. Dr. Claire Weekes is considered a "pioneer of panic disorder". Although originally written in the 1960's it is still perhaps one of the best books ever published on anxiety. It is a simple read, which is the hallmark of Dr. Weekes inner genius. She doesn't speak complicated and does not try to impress you. She simply takes you by the hand and walks your through life with panic disorder. RIP Dr. Weekes, the world is a better place for having known you!!

  4. If you're looking for help with generalized or "free floating" anxiety ... don't bother with this book. However, if you're unfortunate enough to be suffering for severe anxiety and other associated feelings; this book is worth reading.

  5. I love this book. The author has such a dear way of "talking to" the reader, as though she were right there, guiding you through the steps to overcome your anxiety. Some things in it are out of date. For example, she talks about ECT, and how her methods will help overcome anxiety without it. She talks about heavy sedation, under a doctor's supervision, in order to rest up and recuperate from "nervous illness". But all in all, she talks, throughout the book, about concepts which are used today. Without using the same words, she is talking about acceptance, mindfulness, and stress management techniques. One thing to be aware of is that the author describes some symptoms of anxiety, which could mimic a serious health crisis, yet reassures the reader that it is not to be worried about. She reassures the readers that they won't die, that nobody ever died of an anxiety attack. Yet, in fairness to the author, she also emphasizes that this advice applies only if someone has actually seen a doctor and had other medical issues ruled out. Overall, the book may be seen as very soothing, comforting, and pleasant to read. Kate Boswell MFT

5 comments about Meditations for Manifesting : Morning and Evening Meditations to Literally Create Your Heart's Desire.
  1. I have been using this CD for about 2 weeks now, mostly in the car on the way to work and on the way to pick up my kids from school. For the most part I enjoy the "Ah" meditations. Although Dr. Dyer's tonality is off at times, and that can be distracting, I enjoy the gentle reminders and directions. But I do have some problems with some of the affirmations that I find rather negative (ie: "My judgments prevent me from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances"). To make the most of the cd I no longer listen to the affirmations, instead I rewind back to the guided meditation and focus on my own affirmations for the day.

I was finally able to listen to the evening "Om" meditation and was very disappointed. The Om sound is fine, but the meditation itself disturbed me. It is very "God-oriented" and directs one to "find God within yourself" and really learn how to love God. As Dr. Dyer continues through the Om meditation he diverges from thankfulness and gratitude affirmations and begins to intersperse quotes from Meher Baba on the 12 ways of realizing God - Longing ("have the same longing and thirst for union with God as one who has been laying for days in the hot sun of the Sahara experiences the longing for water, then you will realize God."), Peace of Mind, Humility, Desperation ("if you experience the desperation that causes a man to commit suicide and you feel that you cannot live without seeing God, then you will see God"), Faith, Fidelity, Control Through Love, Selfless Service, Renunciation ("if you renounce for God everything physical, mental and spiritual then you have God"), Obedience, Surrender, Love ("if you have that love for me which St. Francis had for Jesus then not only will you realize God, but you will please God"). Then he finishes off with Shaloms.

I wish that a transcript of the CD had been provided or that more detailed information had been included in the "book description" as the evening meditation is definitely not about manifesting or even gratitude, but rather Meher Baba's religious philosophy. Dr. Dyer also states that this is not the way that he does this meditation every day, but then does not go on to explain how he does do it and we're left to wonder what the difference is.

  2. I love Wayne Dyer's books and watch his videos on youtube. So I expected a great deal from this CD. I really thought it would be a guided meditation for AM and PM. If this is what you are expecting you will be disappointed. The AM meditaion is 20 mins of literally "ah" being said over and over... and for the night meditation, 20 mins of "om" being said over and over. I could have recorded this myself and saved some $$. Buy his books but skip this CD.

  3. Dr. Dyer's content is almost always right on. This version of his wisdom helped me to tap into a bigger conciousness and manifest my new novel. My own content was previously "out there" and his "Meditations..." helped me capture my story and channel it through my head and out my hands. The result is Uncle Juan's Cabin which is a dramatic, timely tale. It is entertaining and inspriational...just like Dr. Dyer's many works.

  4. Wayne Dwyer is fabulous to listen to. He's got a lovely voice which is great for chanting as he leads you through this Meditation for Manifesting,

  5. I didn't plan on buying this CD at the time but somehow mistakenly or was it a mistake, I received this CD instead of what I thought I ordered. I am so grateful for the mistake I thought I made because I am learning with the use of this CD how to meditate and relax my thoughts everyday.

5 comments about The PTSD Workbook: Simple, Effective Techniques for Overcoming Traumatic Stress Symptoms.
  1. This book is awesome. I am going through it with a counslor. I even enjoy doing the work. If you have been diagnosed with PTSD and you are having a hard time working through or need more help-I strongly recommend this book.

  2. The book is really helping me get unstuck. PTSD has gotten in the way of work and some housekeeping, but now that I am doing the work I feel like I am getting unstuck. I really recommend this book and recommend having a therapist while you do the work. My traumatic incident happened 4 years ago and even though I have tried to help myself I didn't have the tools that this workbook has. Now I am taking steps to get more centered and less overwhelmed. I give the book credit for this new energy and focus and sense of security.

  3. Both books were very helpful in understanding PTSD.I haven't had time to read the sourcebook and the workbook but what I have read has really opened my eyes.My eyes were open to the fact that I have to do something about Post Traumatic Stress or it will continue to consume my innermost being.I realized that I had work to do if I was going to feel any better. The work that I did in the workbook suggested that I continuously do some journaling.Journaling has helped me.I also like to read the sourcebook about recovery and healing.I think it is important to get all the important information read about PTSD that you possibly can, so you'll get a better understanding(like these books have given me.) Ash

  4. If you have this, read this book, do the exercises and you will learn more about yourself, your reactions and your interaction with everyday life. I had an exceptional experience with this purchase. Thank you.

  5. This workbook has good points and bad. There is helpful information here about trauma and its possible effects on body and mind, and there are SOME useful exercises and techniques herein.

However, if you've looked around lately and found that half the world seems to have been contaminated by the veiled (or not) contempt for survivors of trauma found in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and its many knockoffs, I'm sorry to say you'll find that same attitude - inconsistently - in this workbook, as well. [It is not itself one of the aforementioned knockoffs, thankfully.] Too many of the exercises are about how the client/survivor is wrong, not about how to feel and be better.

This workbook is not a complete waste of time, but there are better workbooks and approaches out there. "Growing Beyond Survival" by Elizabeth G. Vermilyea is both helpful in developing skills to deal with PTSD symptoms, and respectful of the person who desires better mental health.

5 comments about When Panic Attacks: The New, Drug-Free Anxiety Therapy That Can Change Your Life.
  1. Very practical method to cope with panic attack. I want to incorporate this method in my current work as crisis worker.

  2. Self-help books are usually very hard to read, I can't seem to get through them. This book is a very easy read. I find myself not wanting to put it down. It has practical examples and easy to interpret instructions that are helping me get control of my thoughts. I would recommend it to anyone with anxiety or panic problems.

  3. Of all the books and therapy that I tried for my growing anxiaty attacks this was the best help: I definetely recommend this book for anybody with this kind of issues; it will give you a truly way to cure your panic drug free!

  4. I found the book to be very helpful. It provided useful tools and skills that one could apply to reducing anxiety. It also gave good history and information about the positives of drug free anxiety therapy. I strongly recommend.

  5. The information and techniques presented in this book changed my life in a profound way. Not only have I become a FAR less anxious individual in general, but I have the tools to combat every type of mood swing imaginable. My self esteem is at heights I could have never imagined. Whether you panic left and right, have mild anxiety, or are simply a human being, I GUARANTEE this book is worth your time. This is the real stuff: researched based and tested over and over again.

Also, while I agree that a lot of this information is the same that has appeared in Burns' older classics "Feeling Good" and the "Feeling Good Handbook" I do find that it is presented in a more organized, easy to digest format that is focused on anxiety instead of depression. Despite containing the same underlying theories, it has expansions, re-organizations, and specifics that I feel easily make it a worthwhile addition to the Burns catalog.

I, obviously, wholeheartedly and passionately recommend this book for ANYONE.

5 comments about Waking the Tiger : Healing Trauma : The Innate Capacity to Transform Overwhelming Experiences.
  1. On the positive side, I think the author had a few good things to tell those of us who struggle w/ trauma, which I noted at the side of each page, i.e., facts about the numbers of people living w/ trauma & the struggle we have w/ folks who haven't been traumatized but urge you to get on w/ your life, etc. On the negative side, if you start at the wrong place you will arrive there every time. I choose not to believe I have a reptilian brain, that I am a human animal or that I am a product of chance or evolution. That was insulting, but predictable. I believe that trauma has meaning, even if I never discover what it is. If it doesn't serve some purpose then life is meaningless, truly. If we are all basically animals, why be moral? He believes that most of our problems in the world are due to unresolved trauma. That's the blind leading the blind. How do I, as an organism, trust what he's saying is true? This book raises more issues for me than it solves, not only because of its starting point, but also because of how blatantly absurd it is in that it does not conform to real reality even if there are similarities in the animal world. I wasn't helped by this gibberish.

  2. The fact that the body remembers the psychological injuries inflicted on the mind is not new. What I found very disappointing and almost incredible is the fact that the author draws up a list of possible abuses and puts at the same level the trauma of a painful surgery and the emotional or/and sexual abuse of a child mistreated by her parents for years. The book is simplistic and first of all sends the wrong message to people who carries deep emotional wounds. It is close to the superficial self-help books that claim that they can solve your problems once and for all. This must be untrue given the huge number of books of this kind, all of them promising what they do not deliver. And the reader who needs serious help keeps buying the latest "secret" book that holds all the answers to your problems.

  3. Great book, best not to read it in one sitting as I found it "woke my tigers" all at once, which the book says can happen.I did seek help as book suggests.Well worth it all.

  4. I am a Marriage Family Therapist Trainee who has suffered from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for over 15 years. Western medicine includes some form of medication and desensitization from the traumatic event. Although this treatment has been helpful, I believed that my PTSD symptoms were a life-sentence, which included anxiety, fear, phobia's, bodily sensations, depression and a sense of confusion because my life never seemed to be the same again after the traumatic event.
This book has given me new hope in the 'healing' of PTSD. Because this book shows you how to "discharge" the trauma from the nervous system, one can experience freedom again from the torment of living with traumatic symptoms.
This book entails much more than I will be writing in this review, but I can tell you that this book offers hope, practical exercises, and an in-depth, yet simple, knowledge of trauma and a recovery process so that an individual may begin to experience a joyful life again.

  5. This is a very informative and important book that explains the very core of what trauma is, how it affects us, and what we can do to overcome our suffering.

5 comments about Guided Mindfulness Meditation (Guided Mindfulness).
  1. If you read "Full Catastrophe Living" as I did, and found it difficult to put into practice the mindfulness meditations described, these CD's will be a great help. They have been for me, especially with the body scan.
I actually found it easier to follow without a musical background, as I find myself extremely distracted and annoyed when in an environment where I do not really like the background music. On the other hand, Kabat-Zinn's voice was actually soothing and relaxing to me.
As for the 'buddhist' comments: I'm sure the Buddha would not have a problem with this book or the related CD's. I'll bet he would welcome anything that helps one to increased mindfullness. I also believe the teachings of Jesus admonish us to be and act mindfully, and this book and CD set have turned out to be a great help in my own personal spiritual growth.

  2. In his CD meditations, Kabat-Zinn offers a graet introduction to mindfulness meditation that is non-religious and that acknowledges the challenges beginning meditators have in developing the skill of mindfulness... The CDs are best when accompanied by the Kabat-Zinn's books to give them context. I have used them, have noticed great changes in my daily life (less stress, more enjoyment of everyday activities) and fully recommend them.

  3. These CDs have enhanced my life. I listen to them each day to allow me to be mindful of calmness.MBW

  4. The CD set exceeded my expectations for ease of use. They are much easier to follow than I anticipated. The mediations are simple and completely agnostic, and therefore should be non-offensive to any religious orientation. I recommend this product to anyone looking for a way to improve their mental and physical health in an extremely enjoyable and accessible manner!

  5. I bought this CD for a Stress Reduction class and it does it's job quite well. Kabat-Zinn narrates through a 40-minute body scan, two 40-minute yoga exercises, and a sitting meditation in this series alone (you can purchase other series for more exercises). If done properly, all exercises are helpful in understanding the body, relaxation, beginning yoga, and mindfulness, but Kabat-Zinn's voice can wear on the nerves after a while. His voice isn't exactly what I would call "soothing," and he has an annoying tendency to smack. But mindfulness is all about letting go of little things and learning acceptance, so maybe there is something to be said about learning to ignore the minor things that can cause annoyance on this c.d. Also, there is no accompanying music, so if you need a good soothing soundtrack for your meditation you might want to look elsewhere. Overall a good choice for beginners.

5 comments about Guided Meditations: For Calmness, Awareness, and Love.
  1. As other reviews have stated - it is just the guy's voice... he has a very faint accent (somewhat Irish, but again - very faint). His delivery is unhurried, and smooth. No background music is both good and bad: it's great because if done poorly that can really be distracting... but if done well it does help, and can also block out background noises a little too. This CD will work best if you're fortunate enough to have absolute silence to work with... which for many of us simply isn't the case.

The breathing meditation is really good - you can really relax to it and he keeps your mind at rest nicely. The 2nd mdeitation is nice as well, and has some positive affirmations mixed in: a nice "feel good" meditation. the third is a "walking meditation"... I don't foresee using that one, but I do like the first two a lot, both in there own way are great.

  2. The voice of Bodhipaksa is very calming to a stressed out mind and body.
I now use this meditation CD and another CD of his,Guided Meditations for Stress Reduction as a routine part of my life. They are and continue to be plesant and peaceful experience. It is my opinion that anyone would enjoy these CD's

  3. It could be that after reading the rave reviews I expected more, but I think this CD was mediocre and way over-priced.

  4. I found this meditation to be forgettable. Long bouts of silence throughout. If I am going to pay for a CD, why would I want to pay for silence? Just not what I was looking for. Very little guided meditation. A lot of down time.

  5. This is a wonderfully relaxing CD. The instructors voice is calm and soothing (with an intriguing accent) with instruction that is straightforward and easy to follow.

I am new to meditation and relaxation that I am developing with my yoga practice and I found this to be a valuable addition and if I do not haave time to set aside for a full session, I do find even giving myself a few moments is helpful.

5 comments about Emotional Vampires: Dealing With People Who Drain You Dry.
  1. I came across this book when a close friend of mine ran into issues with a difficult person in her life. Some one gave her the book, and (because I read everything in sight!) I subsequently read it. It was very beneficial in explaining my relationship with my youngest son and in helping him understand me as well. I have tendencies toward the obsessive-compulsive side, while he tends toward the hystrionic. I credit this book with helping both of us to come to terms with our very different views of the world, and I am happy to say that our relationship is stronger and much more positive because of this book. The book helps you pinpoint your own strengths and weaknesses, gives you strategies for self-improvement, and recommends specific steps for dealing with all types of difficult, puzzling people in your life. It does all this in and easy-to-read, informative, and entertaining format. If you have a person in your life whose personality you just can't seem to "get," or if you seem to rub others the wrong way and don't understand why, I highly recommend this book! I have given away copies and continue to loan my own out on a regular basis.

  2. I found this book to be very interesting and eye-opening. I was amazed to see some of the most difficult people in my life so perfectly described. I thought that the advice was helpful and the warnings about these folks well worth heeding.

  3. Overall, the information about these types of people is great. But the book focuses almost entirely on encountering these types in the work place, not in personal life. I deal with a histrionic cousin, who maintains her blond hair and Jaguar, while crying to me that she doesn't have enough money for food or medicine. Her non-stop need for me to take care of her has drained me. While I was able to get a lot of understanding from the chapter on histrionic vampires, I had to take the workplace solutions offered and try to tailor them to personal life. I would have liked the book better if it dealt with both personal and professional types and offered solutions for both.

And I do agree with the others that he does take the vampire analogy too far. It seems to me he almost felt obligated to talk about vampires when it wasn't appropriate to do so.

  4. This review is about an apparent manufacturing or publisher defect: pages 37 to 84 are missing! They are not ripped out of the book, they are simply not there. I did not start reading it and get to page 37 until after the Amazon 30-day return period was over, so I've had to go thru a rigmarole with Customer Service about how to replace the book, ship back the other one, get a refund, etc. Very frustrating. Also, the customer service dept at Amazon classified this as a "damaged in shipment" problem, although I did my best to explain it's a publishing problem. So now how do I know when they send me the replacement book, the pages will not also be missing. I highly recommend the book, but get it at your local bookshop or if you buy from Amazon, check those pages right away.

  5. It seems that this book is simply negative. If you are so concerned about these "insane crazy people" then get away from them. Reading a book while imagining these people seems extremely obsessive and histrionic in itself.

5 comments about Don't Sweat the Small Stuff--and it's all small stuff (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series).
  1. This is a perfect book to have on your coffee table or at your bedside. Reading
any of Richard Carlson's 2 page chapters a day is wonderful support in having
a great life. This book has helped me feel at ease in myself. For example - the
chapter "Cut Your Some Slack," reminds me "Life is a process - just one thing after
another. When you lose it just start over again" - I love this! It's nice to
remember that every moment is new and full of possibilities.

I have also found books by authors Ariel & Shya Kane enlightening. By reading
their books, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation, How to Create a Magical Relationship and Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, self-discovery has become so easy and fun. They say that "awareness is not an achievement - it is a way of life." If you enjoy books written by Richard Carlson, I have a feeling you would also enjoy those written by the Kanes.

  2. In keeping with Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" this book continues to be a motivational addition to my collection. It was worth me sweating to find an inexpensive copy.

  3. This book has brief every day narrations of every day life situations and gives you advice to stay calm or take the best out of the situation.
I think that it is helpful to read the authors point of view and realize that you dont have to choose to get angry about dirty dishes in the sink, and many many other indexed toppings.

  4. No matter what your mood, or what's going on in your life, this book has a section to bring a smile to your face. Guaranteed!

  5. GET IT GET IT GET IT YOU NEED IT FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY FRIENDS ENEMIES
