  1. By far Belleruth's tapes are the best in applying guided imagery to health and healing. Her tapes inspire as they help you focus your mind on healing your body. Highly recommended!

  2. I was a skeptic...the operative word being "was"...of these types of materials. However, this tape changed how I look at relaxation and stress mgmt. I manage an Employee Assistance Program and so deal with stress in my work every day. I have found this to be extremely helpful in offering to my clients and/or playing at lunch and learns to help people understand that it's not some crazy hypnosis... It's simple relaxation, and it works. This tape starts off a little cheesy if you're not used to this type of thing, but once you allow yourself to get into it, it really works!! Don't use while driving!!!

  3. I own several guided imagery CD's by this author and this one is my favorite. It contains two CD's with three different guided imagery segments (two to use while relaxing and a third for walking) and concludes with "affirmations," which are statements to combat negative thinking that you repeat to yourself. I started using this CD when my teenage daughter began going through a normal rebellious stage that I found very upsetting. I have diabetes and must control stress, that when high can make blood glucose levels rise and more difficult to control. This CD was a gift to myself that was most welcome at a time in my life when stress was a daily occurence! I tried to use it everyday when times were especially difficult and my anxiety would melt away. I really like the walking meditation as a change, for those times I just had to leave the house or do harm to someone! I highly recommend this CD in particular, but also any of the Health Journey guided imagery CD's. They really do work to calm your mind and begin the healing process.

5 comments about Health Journeys: A Meditation to Help with Anger & Forgiveness (cassette) (Health Journeys).
  1. I have had many struggles with forgiveness, because of some pretty horrendous things that have happened to me. My heart was closed and shut down and I honestly couldn't see how that was going to change. This tape is a mind-blower. Very simple but very effective. It's making a dent on me in a very beautiful way, day by day. (I listen to it every night.) This woman's work is a great blessing. I have many of her audios.

  2. I have suffered from spastic colon for at least six years. I get cramps and other unpleasant symptoms that often require medication. Since I started doing relaxation exercises and listening to this guided meditation my symptoms are down by half and I have much more energy. I find the words, voice and music pleasant, soothing and comforting. Evidently my digestive system feels the same way. Maybe this is a placebo effect, but if it is, who cares? Not me!!!

  3. I turned to this CD when I realized that my anger at my ex-husband over his failure to pay child support and co-parent was making me sick. This is one of the few resources I found that address anger specifically. Naparstek keeps the focus on me, and how my anger, now that it has become habitual, is preventing me from having a full emotional life. I've known that I needed to let go of my anger for awhile, but I haven't known how. This really helps.

  4. I am a therapist and use this CD in an Anger Management Group that I facilitate. After hearing this CD, all of the group members rave about how helpful it is. Ms. Naparstek has the most soothing voice I have heard, and the group members agree that the imagery she uses in the CD is quite useful in helping them "visualize" letting their anger go. I would highly recommend this CD!

  5. I have used this product for the past few weeks most nights as I am falling asleep. It has really done wonders for me. Not only to let go of past hurt and anger, but also to build a comfortable sanctuary within myself to buffer the effects of present difficult relationships. My anger related to past hurtful relationships that caused my self esteem to fall. This meditation and affirmations have helped considerably.

5 comments about How Did I Get So Busy?: The 28-Day Plan to Free Your Time, Reclaim Your Schedule, and Reconnect with What Matters Most.
  1. I bought this book on a busy week while at an airport. I immediately "took" to many of the ideas presented in this book. They are presented in a helpful, non-judgmental way, and address the importance of balancing one's work/school and personal life. Also, many of the ideas presented helped me to "normalize" that what I am and am not doing well is similiar to the challenges of others, such as not always getting to all those items on a to do list. The author, regarding to do lists, presents a different way of approaching these lists anyway. I guess there are some so-called new age ideas here, but I think it just has more to do with recognizing the value of remembering to have a spiritual life as well. My only suggestion for a better book would be to allow more room for writing out the brief exercises in the book itself. The author suggests a journal. I found room in the book for writing, but a little more room would have been helpful.

  2. Valorie's book helped me get clarity, focus and learn how to do what matters most. I love her writing style. So crisp, personal and authentic. This book and a candy bar saved me a lot of money (now I don't have to see a therapist) :) I have to go to the gym, but now that I'm not so busy - I can do this! Thanks Valorie, another hit! God bless you!

  3. I got this book from the library with high hopes but I am disappointed in it. There are many instances I felt the author was just bragging about herself, in the guise of "sharing". By that, I mean she makes opportunities to "share" her own story, but somehow even her so-called problems seem contrived to promote herself. For example, in one part of the book, she was relating that she thinks her own tendency to be busy all the time started in childhood, when her mother put her in kindergarten at the age of four. She then goes on to say she was trying to prove to the world she is "smart" by getting her masters degree at age 21. Well, that does prove she is smart, and surely she knows it, but by the time she is done with telling the story, I was annoyed by the obvious self-promotion. In another segment, she relates of how she and her husband took a leap and bought a home that "nourishes" them physically, emotionally and spiritually. She then gushes about how lovely it is to walk in the streets near her home, how happy she is they took the leap and bought it. Well, that's great, but in these economic times, that sure does seem like bragging.

I got the feeling the author led something of a life of priviledge, and cannot relate to why many of us are busy. She never mentions having children and as a busy mom, I can say a large part of why I am overly busy is the care of my children. Like many moms, I was looking for advice on things like how to slow down without shortchanging the kids, but kids were never really addressed in this book. That is a glaring omission, because kids (or the care of adult parents, or both) add tremendously to one's busyness and most women are in some sort of caregiving role for a large part of their lives. It is very easy to make the adjustments listed in the book if you are a woman with few caregiving obligations, but if you have those issues, then many of the suggestions here will be difficult, if not impossible to put into practice.

The author lacks insight into the reasons why people are so busy, the very real obligations some of us face, and cannot simply reduce by self examination. Some of her points are good, but there appears to be a lack of understanding of the serious responsibilites many of us face.It is very easy to say "slow down" and "take time" but when one is faced with the care of parents and children, or working two jobs to save a home from foreclosure, such advice seems worse than trite.

  4. Valorie Burton is an amazing woman who has used her talents to empower us in our everyday life. As a mother, professor and political candidate, life can get extremely busy. When I purchased this book, I expected to simply get tips of how to maintain an organized schedule. However, I received so much more. Valorie explains how "busyness is often based on fear" (p. 52). What a revelation!

I've shared usurps of "How Did I Get So Busy" with my students and they are astounded at how 28 days of application can change their habits. I encourage all of you to take a moment and read this book from cover to cover and I assure you, the profound message(s) will change your life. Thank you Valorie for helping me to get my thoughts and life back on track. You're truly divine. Sincerely, Dr. Ro 2010

  5. When I first saw "How Did I Get So Busy?" I knew it was a book I needed to read. Even with all that was going on in my life that contributed to my busy-ness (wife, mother, student), I knew that I needed to make the time to read this book. I am so glad that I did! This book has really made a positive difference in my life, and continues to do so even as I reflect on the lessons I learned. No matter what is contributing to your busy-ness, this book is for everyone. If you want things to change, they won't until you put forth the effort to make the change happen. Stop waiting for the right timing to happen. Make the right timing happen! This book is very enjoyable to read and the structured format is so helpful! I highly recommend "How Did I Get So Busy?"

  1. Robert Griswold and all the Love tapes from Effective Learning Systems (I have over 10) are great. I have used a few different tapes by others and none of them even come close to comparing!

  2. I've listened to several hypnosis and affirmation tapes. This one was disappointing and often annoying. Disappointing because it was primarily a series of repetitious affirmations without focus on the causes of anxiety and fear or how to release those feelings. Annoying because of some of the background music. I'm sure the affirmations will work as presented but there are so many tapes out there that are better. Try a Barrie Konicov tape and hear the difference!

4 comments about Common Sense Organizing: A Step-by-Step Program for Taking Control of Your Home and Your Life.
  1. Debbie's great humor and joy come through every page in her latest book. It's like having your very own organizational specialist come to your home and hold your hand through every step and every room. And this is a lot cheaper!

Debbie takes you through every aspect of becoming organized. And included are many little tips like how to get wrinkles out of those clothes that have been sitting around unfolded. Has she been sneaking into my house?!

I didn't even know where to begin to organize and de-clutter. It just seemed too overwhelming. I have always been amazed at those people who have perfectly organized homes without clutter. They know where everything is! How do they do it? It is embarrassing to have unexpected guests over when you live in a cluttered world. But how do you go about organizing your life? What is the first step? Where do I begin? Debbie makes it seem so simple! I finally have a plan and vision and practical steps for living a different life: one of no clutter. Let's face it: when your house and your life are in order, there is also peace in your life. There is happiness and joy.

Topics covered in this book are getting it together, common sense organizing, conquering the clutter, the organized parent (yes, it is possible to be an organized parent), office management, time management, cleaning, and many resources listed in the back. Everything you need for a completely clutter-free, organized life!

I love Debbie's style of writing and all of her common sense ideas to help you take control of your life. She has a beautiful attitude and faith that shine through the entire book. You will NOT be disappointed with this. I can't recommend it enough. I only wish I had it a long time ago. Thanks Debbie!

  2. If you've ever done spring cleaning, you know that the most important step is to get rid of what you don't need. To do that, you have to sort through everything you do need. And then you found that a lot of the stuff you kept . . . you didn't really need . . . the next time you did your spring cleaning.

Having moved offices several times in the last 15 years, I was struck by how much I could toss each time I moved . . . and how much more I should have tossed.

The principles in this helpful book build on that observation and experience, and turn the thought into a process. That's the beauty of the book: Plan; Sort; Organize What's Left; and Maintain the System You've Established. That process works for me!

Although a lot of the book is about getting rid of stuff and condensing what's left into more usable locations and less space, Ms. Williams also looks at organizing your role as a parent and making better use of your time. I thought the latter two subjects needed more depth than Ms. Williams brought to the subjects.

Ms. Williams is at her best when she's diving into a closet, a bathroom or a car . . . and turning it into a more usable location. Much of her book is specialized to the special problems of different living and work environments. How much did I learn? Well, a lot of the tips are ones that I didn't feel inclined to follow. For me, the book was too . . . well . . . organized. There's lots of list making and list checking. I'm more of a free form fellow who likes to plow ahead and just get it done.

If you like making lists and checking them twice, you will be thrilled with this book and be convinced it's the ultimate in five star efforts.

For those who have little experience with organizing space, I'm sure the many boxed "Bright Ideas" will be a high point.

When I write a review of a book I try to think of who the ideal reader is. For this book, it's a young couple who have just moved to a Manhattan apartment on the fifth floor of a walk-up that's half the size they had before in Ann Arbor . . . and who are expecting triplets.

Spring's here. So what are you waiting for?

  3. This book would be a good "first" book to have on the subject of organizing and home management, but it might be a little light if you've read a few and are more than a novice.

Even though I don't like to visualize what this space would be like and other "pie-in-the-sky" planning, I found that when I actually answered those questions and determined what would be ideal, it's easier to get there and maintain it.

I really like organizing and home management books and I've written some reviews and comparisons of these kinds of books on my website: www.momsplaceonline.com

This book is good for the money and it has some good ideas, even if it's not the best on the market. It's all a learning process.

    Ginger

  4. I honestly wasn't a big fan of this book...it has some common sense information, but other than that, it just wasn't helpful for me. Perhaps it just wasn't what I was looking for.

  1. Great voice and pretty good content, but it either put me to sleep or my mind wandered to other subjects. It didn't keep me focused. I don't think I'm getting what I was looking for.

  2. I bought this tape without knowing anything about it, and I feel like I stumbled onto a real treasure. I've listened to the guided meditation dozens of times, and it never fails to relax and nurture me. Unlike other self-confidence tapes that seek to "pump up" the listener, this tape guides you through imagery that is simple, gentle, and heart-warming. I'd listen to it even if I weren't a performer, but it has helped me many times to relax and focus before and during performances. I'm very grateful to have it.

  3. Even though I frequently consult amazon.com's reviews about books, music and everything else, this is the first review I write and I write because I really want to share the incredible experience I had when listening to this audio tape! Belleruth Naparstek's words took me into a beautiful place on Earth and reconnected me with my beloved grandmother who passed away many years ago! It was so powerful that I cried for half an hour, and I felt such release after I was done! I want to thank you, Belleruth, for this amazing gift!

I have listened to an watched many meditation tapes and this is by far the best I have encountered because it reaches you on a very deep level. I can't wait to experience Belleruth's other tapes!

  4. I bought this several months ago and it continues to strengthen and inspire me. The visualization techniques really work and the music is beautiful and calming. I often use the tape nightly before going to sleep. The affirmations are equally effective and I really enjoy Ms. Naparsteks soothing voice.

  5. The guided meditation is so generic you would not know it was to help you with self-confidence or reaching peak performance. It is basically just a guided relaxation. Side B has affirmations which are soothing.
