5 comments about Fight Fat After Forty: The Revolutionary Three-Pronged Approach That Will Break Your Stress-Fat Cycle and Make You Healthy, Fit, and Trim for Life.
- The book was great information and it seems to be working.
- I first heard about Dr. Peeke on Discovery Channel's Body Challenge. I read this book cover to cover and it hit me; this is why I've had trouble losing weight! It helped me to understand how stress-eating was affecting my inability to lose weight; or to keep it off. I highly recommend this book and I'm not kidding about how much help it's been to me. The proof is in the 24 lbs lost and 4% fat loss in 10 weeks! What do you have to lose???
- I haven't even finished this book and I've lost 10 pounds. This is the first weight loss in 5 years for me and all I did was change the times I eat! Pamela Peeke is the first doctor to truly understand and work with how a woman's body changes during perimenopause and menopause and it really validates you as a person. You aren't nuts; you really are changing. I can't believe how motivated I am. This is a definite buy and a book that I will save and give to my own daughter.
- I'm a Stress Overeater over 50 and this book explains a lot. It also explains why it is necessary, not overindulgent, to continue with my twice per week personal trainer for upper body and core workouts (which I rarely would do on my own) and my twice per week long hikes. I have made other changes which have helped me slowly but surely "remove" the excess weight. If I don't do something perfectly, I don't stress over it, which helps in the long run. For some reason, this book made sense to me and convinced me of what habits I need to stop, continue, and do more of.
I also can spot stress undereaters, and I am now more compassionate than envious (the ones I know are thin and look good, but I know they are also stressed.)
- This book is amazing! It is exactly the solution I needed! It explains, in detail, what is happening to my forty something body. My body has been changing for years now, and the weight has piled on and the old solutions just don't do it anymore. This book has helped me to understand that this has been going on for awhile and unless I change the way I treat my body, it will not get any better. It's not about DIET, but about what you eat and when you eat it. It's about recognizing when stress hits and navigating through it in a non-destructive manor. I now have hope and can't wait to begin this new journey. I realize that without my health and well being, I have nothing. Thanks!

5 comments about The One Minute Manager Balances Work and Life (The One Minute Manager).
- For a change, the One Minute Manager is a student in this book. Despite his professional success and fame, he realizes that he has neglected his own physical well being over the years. Then comes a professor who teaches him to put physical fitness first.
There is a simple questionnaire (The Professor's dozen) that the one minute manager needs to answer. It applies to all of us. Depending on the score on this, one may decide the true state of ones "Tone", the word that is used to describe the physical well being of the individual. The four parameters (or moderators that prevent stress) responsible for sustained success in work and life are: 1. Autonomy : The availability of many choices that give good control in life 2. Connectedness : Strong positive relationship at home, at work and in the community 3. Perspective: The direction, purpose and passion about what one is doing. 4. Tone: The feeling about the body, energy level, physical well being and appearance. In a remarkable way, the clear connection between Tone as the enabler for the other three moderators is brought out in this book. The illustrations that support the concepts are excellent. Organizations spend billions of dollars in health care and suffer productivity loss due to the lack of physical well being of their employees. Employees on the other hand are sacrificing their health in the process of achieving career advancement. "In early life, people give up their health to gain wealth. Then, later in life they give up some wealth to regain health." This book is for HR managers and employees at all levels to help achieve substantial gains for the Organization; through employee well being that needs serious attention; as much as we do for career planning.
- This book was originally published under the title "The One Minute Manager Gets Fit." An even better title would have been "The One Minute Manager Takes Care of Himself." The entire volume emphasizes the importance of taking of oneself so that effectiveness in all other areas of life will be at a maximum.
There are four components presented here to insure a fit, healthy life: autonomy, connectedness, perspective and tone. Autonomy pertains to getting control of one's personal schedule so that there is enough time for self-care. Connectedness refers to having a strong, interpersonal support network to keep on track with proper fitness, nutrition, etc. Perspective pertains to how well one views his own life. Tone refers to the actual physical condition and health of a person's body, mind and emotions. This title should be at the top of the list for "One Minute" fans. The format is the same as all the other books in the series and the principles are life-changing. For some persons, this book may even be life-saving!
- I'm guessing the book was retitled to what is now to attract more readers. However, the content doesn't match the title. This is all about the importance of staying fit and being healthy. If that's what you're looking for, this book is for you. But if you're looking to balance work/life, there are better books to purchase.
- Ken Blanchard's little One Minute Manager books define a genre.
Neither riveting reading nor high-stakes illumination, they simply get a message across effectively to the management reader who is not too concerned with aesthetics. Even the illustrations are garden-variety basic.
Yet these books have sold millions and they work.
The One Minute Manager Balances Work and Life presents the usual contrived encounter between the One Minute Manager and another of the usual subjects, this time the Professor. Somewhat off the beaten path, this time it is the One Minute Manager Himself who is desperately in need. Since we last saw him contentedly setting the organization world right, he has foolishly transformed himself into an overweight, out-of-breath victim of his own success.
Bad One Minute Manager!
This gives him the chance to narrate his own turn-around process, a conversion that I must admit I find rather inspiring.
Along the way one is treated to the usual locked doors when he tries to slip away from responsibility for the situation. This habit of assigning personal responsibility is perhaps one of the keys to the success of this series.
If you need to balance work and life, pick up one of these little books on the cheap.
- I love the one minute manager series... and so many of Ken Blancahrd and Spener Johnson books. This book, part of the "One Minute" series of books offers some great principles, however, is lacking the delivery of the other books in ther series.
While it was good to read, it didn't hold me. However, for those who need a major life change in respect to their health and work-life balance... it is a good starting point; pick the book up and read it... then make the changes you need.

5 comments about The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook.
- I found this book to be easy to read and extremely helpful. After one read-through, I ripped out the pages I wanted to refer to on a regular basis: deep-breathing techniques, peaceful scene visualizations, lists of positive affirmations, among others. I read through these each morning and night. This book, coupled with daily exercise, meditation, good nutrition, and "me" time, has made a vast difference in my life.
- I have found the Anxiety Phobia Workbook to be an outstanding tool in working with young people ages 12-18. I have used it in small groups, and individually. Depending on the age and maturity of the client, the workbook guides an individual to take responsibility and ownership of the diagnosis, and the specific part they play in the healing of this complex disorder.
Mary Anne Brookshire
- The axiety and phobia book. Im still reading it. Its a great reassurance book. Keeps it in your mind that when your having anxiety and feel like your gonna die.. your actually not. And its perfectly normal and healthy for your body to do those things. I love the book so far!
- This book was a life saver!!! We had brought our son to several Doctors, tried some medications and were getting no where. What finally helped us and our son was the social worker at my sons' school, and this book. If you follow what this book tells you to do to get through full blown panic attacks and anxiety, it will work. I had bought several books before this one, that were absolutely worthless. This is the only book you need to learn helpful techniques to work through your anxiety. This book changed our sons life. He is a happy, healthy boy again. He feels empowered, because now when he feels a panic attack coming on he has coping strategies that work for him.
- Very comprehensive and detailed description on many aspects of dealing with anxiety and phobia. From physical and mental, all the explanations, the exercises and workshops, and the advice and examples will help you get back on the road to recovery. Book recommended by psychologists.

5 comments about The Goodnight Caterpillar: A Children's Relaxation Story to Improve Sleep, Manage Stress, Anxiety, Anger (Indigo Dreams)(Hardcover).
- As a mother of a 9 year-old ADHD daughter, I found this story to be an excellent way to teach relaxation techniques. My daughter is always rushing through her homework assignments, chores and school projects. This unique story teaches children to slow down and use the same relaxation and stress management techniques for their everyday projects and life experiences as the turtle used in this story. I find it so difficult to select good stories for my daughter that will keep her focus and attention. "The Goodnight Caterpillar" has all the qualities that I look for. The delightful water color illustrations, excellent choice of vocabulary, and captivating story line is presented in an easy to read format that my daughter loves to hear over and over again. This book would make a great gift for any child as it teaches important life skills.
- I love this author I have almost all her books and cds I gave all the kids in my family her books and cds this year my niece cant wait to get home from school to listen to her cds and all the parents were thrilled to actually have a fun way to help their kids learn about relaxation.
- My recent purchase of The Goodnight Catepillar by Lori Light was prompted by my 2 yo daughter's difficulty finding sleep at the end of the day. Since receiving the book, I find the nights we choose "the Catepillar book" result in quicker, deeper sleep for her. As an added bonus, my husband finds 10-15 mins relaxation too as he and my daughter lay side by side to relax. I recommend it to 2+ with the caveat that the 2 yo will have difficulty embracing the whole concept of breathing and relaxing but will like the tone and pace of the story.
- My boys ages 6 and 8 love this book. We talk about about how to relax when feeling nervous or scared about something. Kids today worry about so many things. It's nice to see Lite's books showing ways to manage stress in children.
- I bought this book for my five year old son, who has anxiety disorder. He was having difficulty sleeping at night, due to anxiety about the next days' events (school, soccer, etc). We read this book together each night and he says he can feel himself relaxing, "just like the caterpillar in the book, mom!" He's sleeping really well most nights and his teacher says he uses the deep breathing techniques at school when things seem overwhelming for him.
The story line is pretty basic and if you can pair this with actually growing caterpillars, the book really comes to life. It's age appropriate, too, with something for kids of all ages. I even relax while I read it!

5 comments about Since Strangling Isn't An Option... Dealing with Difficult People -- Common Problems and Uncommon Solutions.
- This book has a user friendly approach and avoids concentrating on defining the "difficult people" by style, type or category. There are several interesting approaches offered for changing your behavior when dealing with difficult people because, as the author points out, the only behavior you can really control is your own.
The author includes a number of scenarios, some carrying over from chapter to chapter, which aid in understanding the process for dealing with difficult behavior and the predicted, or actual, outcome. While the process suggested by the author may not work for you, and may not work in every instance where you are dealing with a difficult person, there is certainly enough wisdom and information to justify the time spent reading the book.
- Some greet perspectives, and provokes great thought and can be very helpful for anyone looking to gain knowledge to help them gain insights that will help give confidence when dealing with others.
- Very Helpful to me.
Helps me relate/understand why I get annoyed with people because of my already-always-thinking process from my past. I have begun to hear other in a more understanding way...when I am in a good mood that is..some days, if I am not thinking I revert back to my other thinking and lose my patience..!
- This book was not what I thought it was. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it not only defines the types of difficult people and how to deal with them, but it had the reader take a look at how he/she reacts to the difficult person's behavior. I was under the misconception that the problem was inherently theirs, but Sandra Crowe points out that there are things I may be doing to provoke or instigate the situation. This book is surely an excellent resource for those dealing with difficult people - especially when you must maintain relationships with them and cannot avoid them.
- I was facing problems at work where my review would be entirely different from my feedback. I felt like I was being cheated and had absolutely no credibility. I thought this book may help, but it covers different situations.
The book talks about people that misbehave and how to deal with them. It also talks about overcoming communication problems, but the situations mentioned were too extreme to be able to relate to. I wonder if people like those (as portrayed in the book) even exist.
People this book will help:
1) Want to control anger
2) Someone at work hates you or you hate him/her i.e. if *a* person is making your life at work miserable
3) Learn about different types of people and why they behave the way they do (psychology)
People for who this book is useless:
1) Do not know the stem or root of your problems at work
2) Problem lies in the work environment and not a person
In cases where this book may not prove useful, you may want to try a book on street smartness, communication skills and reading body language.

5 comments about A Boy and a Turtle: A Children's Relaxation Story to improve sleep, manage stress, anxiety, anger (Indigo Dreams).
- Great! My 3 yr olds love it.
- The book has poor drawing quality and pictures. My 5 year son did not like this book at all because of pictures and was always visualizing the same when we played the CD. He doesn't want to hear the CD or see the book anymore.
- This is a wonderful story to teach my ADHD daughter simple breathing exercises and visualization relaxation techniques in a simple and straight forward manner. She loves listening to this story every night before going to sleep.
- What a beautiful book! This is so very child friendly. It teaches in such a bright, colorful way HOW to relax your body. Both my children love to follow along relaxing each part of their bodies as they prepare to relax for bed. As a pediatric occupational therapist I have also used this book and its wonderful methods to teach relaxation to some of my clients and their families. GREAT! Kelly Giaquinto
- I bought this book based upon my 7 year old son having a lot of anxiety issues with school related issues. I read this book to him the first night, and I have not been able to put it down since. EVERY night around bedtime he asks me to read him his relaxation book. He goes through the motions of closing his eyes, and really trying to relax. After about 1 week of reading it to him, he can start relaxing on his own.

5 comments about Heal Yourself With Medical Hypnosis: The Most Immediate Way to Use Your Mind-Body Connection!.
- I really found all of the inductions that Gurgevich uses to be very effective.
- I'm trained in hypnosis myself. I think these guys are great. I enjoyed listening to the CD - more than once! I bought 2 of theirs...
- I was skeptical of the whole hypnosis scene. I tried it a few times at nightclubs and there was no way I could be hypnotized. Last year I was treated for breast cancer, and although everything appears to be fine,I am still dealing with the anxiety of the whole ordeal. I have followed Dr. Weil's advise for years and find him to be solid in his recommendations regarding alternative medicine. I am in the medical profession myself, so I have done some research in this area. I wouldn't have even given this cd a second glance, but because of Dr. Weil's endorsement, I gave it a whirl. Well, one month later, I am thrilled with the progress I have made. I can easily slip into the "trance" state without any real effort and let my subconscious do all the work. The side effects that I have been experiencing from the aromatase inhibitor drugs have all but vanished. It almost seems like cheating! Hypnosis seems like its on the fringe of medicine, but the proof is in the pudding. It certainly cant harm you and is well worth a try.
- Leave it to Dr. Weil as a trusted source to open your mind and provide a great introduction to the concept of medical hypnosis. I was in a lot of pain last year and willing to try just about anything, so being a long-time fan of Dr. Weil's work on other aspects of healthy eating and living, I figured, why not give it a try? Boy am I ever glad I did, because from the reassuring and valid points that Dr. Weil's friend and colleague Dr. Steven Gurgevich made, it got me to actually try the sessions included in the audio. I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed them, and since then, searched out more of Dr. Gurgevich's work and now have 5 of his own audios which have helped me improve to 90% better in the last few months I have been using them. Check out my favorites Healing Mind: Healing Body, Pain Relief, and Stress Ease.
--Melanie R. Jordan, author of Have Your Cheeseburger And Keep Your Health Too! Have Your Cheeseburger And Keep Your Health Too!
- The lecture by Dr. Weil is excellent information on the dynamics and scientific work being done with medical hypnosis. The sessions with Dr. Gurgevich on Disc 2 were a review for me having already been trained as a hypnotherapist. Therefore, this is a CD I would only listen to once and/or refer to if trying to start someone else out with hypnosis. However, I did go to Dr. Gurgevich's website and order 4 of his CD's specific to some medical issues and impending surgery I am dealing with. Therefore, I do belive their information is accurate and effective.

5 comments about Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness Stories And Techniques Designed to Decrease Stress, Anger, Anxiety While Promoting Self-esteem ages 5-10 (Indigo Dreams).
- My eleven year old son's ADHD Doctor recommended Lori Lite's relaxation techniques to help my son relax so he could sleep. I purchased the book A Boy and A Bear as well as the Indigo Dreams: Relaxation and Stress Management Bedtime Stories and Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness Stories and Techniques Designed to Decrease Bullying, Anger, Anxiety & Obesity, While Promoting Self-esteem & Healthy... CDs. Of the three products I purchased the Garden of Wellness is the CD my son picks to listen to every night. It is his favorite.
Many nights my son would still be awake at midnight distraught that he could not get to sleep, because he was unable to quiet his mind and body. The last two weeks I have seen a change in my son for the positive. He has yet to hear the end of the CD because he is asleep before the CD ends. His anger has diminished; his dread of going to school has diminished; his self-consciousness of being different has also diminished. The Garden of Wellness CD has truly helped my son on many levels of his life and I am truly grateful to Lori Lite.
I must also add the CDs have been very beneficial for me also and the children I work with on a daily bases. The two CDs and the book have helped all our lives become much more peaceful!
- I originally bought for my daughter who has some anxiety and anger issues. After listening to the CD she was practicing some of the techniques and understanding their values, I listened to the CD myself this morning and I can see why she was so positive about it! Also there is the "Light Shield" technique in which children learn to imagine an inner light shield to protect themselves from external situations where others may be making them uncomfortable emotionally. This has also help her to deal with 2 deaths close to her in our family!
- I bought this for my six year old son who has difficulty handling frustration, and sometimes has a hard time getting to sleep. He absolutely LOVES the stories on the cd, the only problem is there are only two stories. The rest of the cd talks about ways to cope with negative feelings, which were mentioned in the previous stories, and then there are a few tracks of music. My son ends up listening to only 1/4 of the cd. The stories are entertaining, but he's missing out on learning the strategies. What should have been done was to incorporate more of the instruction of the coping strategies within the body of the stories. I may eventually buy the other cd's because the stories help to keep him in bed and feeling content, but I cringe at the idea of paying money, to then use only a portion of what I paid for.
- I bought this for my eight year old to relax her and decrease her anxiety before bed. She is used to listening to soothing music before she falls asleep. She said the stories caused her to " stay awake" rather than fall asleep, because she had to hear the end! She said the stories were " too drawn out and repeated themselves." ( yes, her words!) My suggestion would be to alternate a story with soothing music, that way after one story they could fall asleep to the music. Then the next night they could choose a different story to fall asleep by. All the stories together is too long.( she can't stay up that late!) I did listen to the stories and felt like they were well written. The alternation with music would be better though. She does love the soothing song at the end!
- My daughter really loves the "Garden" cd. She has enjoyed all the Indigo Dreams in fact. She gets the message too. I found her talking w/her Nana about the music and how relaxed she feels.

1 comments about The End of Your World: Uncensored Straight Talk on the Nature of Enlightenment (Sounds True Audio Learning Course).
- In his usual intelligent and no nonsense manner, Adyashanti warns the spiritual seeker that they just might find what they are looking for! This is straight talk about the nature of enlightenment and outlines the pitfalls of the spiritual awakening process.
With penetrating insight, Adya navigates beyond the common traps which include the sense of meaningless, the ego's attempt to co-opt spiritual awakening for its own purposes, the sense of superiority that may accompany profound breakthroughs, and grasping the intoxicating bliss.
This is an honest investigation into the truth of who you really are and offers direction in how to live this truth once it has been discovered. In addition, the six cd set also offers teaching stories and an interview with Adyashanti.
He frankly shares that awakening does not offer a "new version of you," but rather no version at all. The wisdom of this collection points to the profound spiritual realization that lies beyond "you and your thoughts," "you and your emotion" and "you and your personal will."

5 comments about The Gregg Braden Audio Collection: Awakening the Power of Spiritual Technology : Beyond zero point; The lost mode of Prayer; The Gift of the Blessing; The Isaiah Effect.
- I STUMBLED ONTO GREG BRADEN'S WORK BY ACCIDENT. I LOVE THIS GUY, VERY WELL DONE CD. HE'S VERY INTERESTING TO LISTEN TO. I WOULD BUY ALL HIS STUFF.
- I've only listened to "The Isaiah Effect." There is lots and lots of "filler." He repeats the same vague generalities many times. I was hoping for something more specific. Haven't listened to the others yet.
- Gregg Braden has a wonderfully silky voice (and not bad to look at either). I can listen to his CDs for hours. And his message is thought provoking and inspirational, especially when taken together with other "new thought" products... The Secret, Infinite Possibilities by Mike Dooley, The Attractor Factor, etc. The only comment I will make in listening to many of his CDs is that he repeats selections of his messages over and over again - but maybe its good to hear things numerous times packaged/surrounded in slightly different messages with each CD title. I definitely recommend Gregg Braden and any number of his CDs.
- This is a solid boxed set although it tends to be verbose at times. Offsetting this opinion is Braden being an excellent speaker. The ideas are exciting and I especially appreciate it when he backs up his facts. This set has me on the precipice of my core beliefs, emotions and feelings...all unseen energies that take form sooner or later.
- Insightful, enlightening and well presented. Although there is some redundant information between the sets, it is all good!
