5 comments about Healing Meditation: Nourish Mind, Body and Spirit.
  1. I thought when i received the cd that it'd be an entire hour of guided meditation. Turns out the first thirty minutes is and the second thiry minutes is of actual meditation. I absolutely loved the guided version most of all!!! I cried several times the first time i listened from the pure relaxation and happiness i felt. I'm listening again tonight and can't wait. Automatic smiles kept flooding my face. It was tremendous!!! I like the second half because you listen to music and are instructed to listen to your breathing when you go off course in being still; however, i have to get to that point where i can do that for thirty minutes without mental distraction. LOL It teaches you patience and how to just be. The first half went by way too, fast!!!Awesome cd!!!

  2. This CD is a very good support for acting as a healing catalyst of a long term illness.

  3. I bought the CD mainly to let my clients meditate after their massage if they wanted to. So one client happened to pick this CD to listen to DURING her massage. Not only did it help her to relax and release massive amounts of stress/tension, it kept me in a healing frame of mind. After the massage, my client said she felt totally rejuvenated. Besides the massage, I know the healing meditation had a great deal to do with it. Kelly Howell has a very soothing voice and apparently is some sort of pioneer in sound therapy. I'm SO GLAD I had this CD and got such positive effect for my client. I have another client in mind who would likely reap similar benefits.

  4. Kelly Howell's Healing Meditation CD is a must have for anyone who wants to maintain a better balanced state of body, mind & spirit. I have been listening this CD for years. I use it to fall asleep and find that I wake up better recharged each day. It also helps to get me into a state of relaxation quicker at times when need it the most. Kelly's voice is comforting and she is simply the very best at putting together self-improvement brain wave therapy tools that truly transform lives!

  5. I've listened to this guided meditation over a hundred times... I've given them away as gifts to many of my friends and family... Don't miss this one! Kelly was born to do guided meditations...

5 comments about Who Will Cry When You Die? Life Lessons from the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.
  1. Robin Sharma, the Author says: "When you live your truth, your dreams beat a path toward your doorstep". A practical solution to create a sound Life and strikingly balance life filling in the gaps with humility. Robin refers to his father's words that a tree that has most fruits is that which bends to the ground. And though there are some exceptions he have found in his own experience that it is true-the people who know the most, who have achieved the most, and have lived the most, are also the people closest to the ground. In a word, they are humble. There is something special about being in the presence of a person who is humble. Robin sharma thinks that practicing humility shows that you respect others and reminds us that there is something for us to learn. It sends a signal to those around you that you are open to receiving the gift of their knowledge and listening to what they have to say. The book is door to exceptional life and live life to the fullest with a purpose and attain peace. The book is indepth wisdom with absolute life changing solutions to cope with life's trials, challenges, frustrations and so on. As Robin Sharma recently visited India in preparation for the production of 'The Monk who sold his Ferrari' as a major motion picture, Robin reminded in his speech that wherever in the world he went, he found human beings struggle with same challenges, same longings. All people are part of one great family with invisible ties. Thus, peace is at your own doorstep and Robin Sharma's books are real 'Gem Picks' - Yeah, sure you can surf his website too and hear his Gem voice too! Good Pick & Great Message.

  2. I did not read the book but just flipped through it and I felt like stating my opinion.
The book is just a collection of commonsense advices cloaked in quotations from scriptures. You don't need a $16 book to tell you
    1. Have a mentor (My Note: No you dn't need one)
    2. Carry a book with you all the time (My Note: meaningless advice)
    etc
Better free advice is available online or in Project Gutenberg.

  3. very good book. read it after reading the saint, surfer and ceo.

  4. I thought the book was fantastic,. Very easy to read. Finished it in one shot 2 hours.

Lots of good lesson 1. You dont have to finish a book just because you bought it! was the most useful to me. I always felt guilty everytime i bought a book and it was a bad choice.

Loved almost all the chapters. Probably some of them are repetitive but felt good to be reminded again.

  5. I love this book and rank it high on my list (along with Winning Nice - another great read I just did a review on)...I LOVE this book because it's so easy to read, you can flip through the tips (they are all about 1-3 pgs long) and the insights he offers are amazing and so easy to use in your everyday life. I buy this book for everyone I know when they are coming on a landmark event in their life or need some inspiration. Get it!

5 comments about Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness Stories And Techniques Designed to Decrease Stress, Anger, Anxiety While Promoting Self-esteem ages 5-10 (Indigo Dreams).
  1. My eleven year old son's ADHD Doctor recommended Lori Lite's relaxation techniques to help my son relax so he could sleep. I purchased the book A Boy and A Bear as well as the Indigo Dreams: Relaxation and Stress Management Bedtime Stories and Indigo Dreams: Garden of Wellness Stories and Techniques Designed to Decrease Bullying, Anger, Anxiety & Obesity, While Promoting Self-esteem & Healthy... CDs. Of the three products I purchased the Garden of Wellness is the CD my son picks to listen to every night. It is his favorite.
Many nights my son would still be awake at midnight distraught that he could not get to sleep, because he was unable to quiet his mind and body. The last two weeks I have seen a change in my son for the positive. He has yet to hear the end of the CD because he is asleep before the CD ends. His anger has diminished; his dread of going to school has diminished; his self-consciousness of being different has also diminished. The Garden of Wellness CD has truly helped my son on many levels of his life and I am truly grateful to Lori Lite.
I must also add the CDs have been very beneficial for me also and the children I work with on a daily bases. The two CDs and the book have helped all our lives become much more peaceful!

  2. I originally bought for my daughter who has some anxiety and anger issues. After listening to the CD she was practicing some of the techniques and understanding their values, I listened to the CD myself this morning and I can see why she was so positive about it! Also there is the "Light Shield" technique in which children learn to imagine an inner light shield to protect themselves from external situations where others may be making them uncomfortable emotionally. This has also help her to deal with 2 deaths close to her in our family!

  3. I bought this for my six year old son who has difficulty handling frustration, and sometimes has a hard time getting to sleep. He absolutely LOVES the stories on the cd, the only problem is there are only two stories. The rest of the cd talks about ways to cope with negative feelings, which were mentioned in the previous stories, and then there are a few tracks of music. My son ends up listening to only 1/4 of the cd. The stories are entertaining, but he's missing out on learning the strategies. What should have been done was to incorporate more of the instruction of the coping strategies within the body of the stories. I may eventually buy the other cd's because the stories help to keep him in bed and feeling content, but I cringe at the idea of paying money, to then use only a portion of what I paid for.

  4. I bought this for my eight year old to relax her and decrease her anxiety before bed. She is used to listening to soothing music before she falls asleep. She said the stories caused her to " stay awake" rather than fall asleep, because she had to hear the end! She said the stories were " too drawn out and repeated themselves." ( yes, her words!) My suggestion would be to alternate a story with soothing music, that way after one story they could fall asleep to the music. Then the next night they could choose a different story to fall asleep by. All the stories together is too long.( she can't stay up that late!) I did listen to the stories and felt like they were well written. The alternation with music would be better though. She does love the soothing song at the end!

  5. My daughter really loves the "Garden" cd. She has enjoyed all the Indigo Dreams in fact. She gets the message too. I found her talking w/her Nana about the music and how relaxed she feels.

5 comments about Beyond the Relaxation Response.
  1. A good, simple read that's also entertaining. The book discusses the possible effects of adding faith to the relaxation response. It would appear that the original 'relaxation response', while good, has an even more profound impact if coupled with a persons personal belief system.

In brief: a good, useful book with easily accessible information.

  2. I have read natural, alternative, holistic books for many years now, most I have recently purchased through Amazon. I rely on the reviews of others to a great extent so when I received this book and was beyond disappointed with its contents I felt annoyed enough to respond with a review of my own to prevent anyone else from this waste of time and money. I am studying to be a relaxation therapist and taking spiritual counseling courses at the same time and both this book and its predecessor, The Relaxation Response, were included on the book list for these courses, so I was really expecting them to provide new, exciting, helpful information, maybe expecting them to make some heretofore unmade connections for me? The two elements I guess worth pulling out of this book are 1) It provides a relaxation method, however, even this is not new nor particularly advanced? and 2) It introduces the addition of one's belief as being an element which intensifies the method?....well...duh...The only way that I even allow for these points is sheer kindness and not real honesty about the value found in the book as there is none! Granted the publishing of this book is a little dated but even for 1984 this information was really lame and old. I cannot fathom why these books are still being added to reading list which include books that far surpass the information found here? No personal offense to Dr. Benson but the book reads like sitting in the company of one who has been isolated for a long period of time and in desperate need of company so they bore their guests to tears and won't be quiet. It goes on and on and on with no real substance at all....

  3. Quite simply Herbert Benson, through the Relaxation Response and Beyond the Relaxation Response, put meditation on the map for the medical profession and for interested laymen who weren't adepts of some guru, yogi, maharishi or other spiritual master. This he did by providing an easy to follow, non-religious based program for eliciting a meditative state AND by validating the results through science. Yes, the book is a little dated now. But, if the content seems familliar, it's beacause there are so many imitators.

If you liked these books, you may also benefit from John Kabbat-Zinn's "Full Catastrophe Living" .

  4. I had read the first book on the relaxation response, but it just didn't "do it" for me. It taught me the basics but I already knew the basics. If you don't know the basics you really should read it first.
This book was awesome. I have so deepened my meditation. He encourages you to tap into your own belief system and that made such a tremendous difference in my meditation experience.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanted to learn the art of meditation.

  5. I found this book to be very helpful in assisting me to deal with the after effects of a stroke and seizures.

4 comments about The Alexander Technique Manual: Take Control of Your Posture and Your Life.
  1. This is a great book for anyone who has heard about the many benefits of the Alexander Technique and would like to find out what it is. The Alexander Technique is often described in very mysterious terms when, in fact, it's quite a simple and practical process. And a very powerful process of self-transformation. Brennan's book is particularly valuable for the newcommer because of its great photographs. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this is certainly true for explaining the ideas of the Alexander Technique. The book also shows how the Alexander Technique can help with various specific activities. It also has some very interesting case histories. If you have an interest in learning more about the Alexander Technique, I'd get this book. Two other good introductions are "Body Learning" by Michael Gelb and "Fitness Without Stress - A Guide to the Alexander Technique" by Robert Rickover.

  2. This book was a big disappointment. From the title and the other customer's review, I assume that it really was a step-by-step guide to achieving at home the good breathing and posture habits that one learns in private lessons. I have taken many lessons from a wonderful teacher, and thought this would help supplement my lessons through home maintenance.

Well, this book is nothing more than a very basic intro to which areas of life Alexander can be applied. It says the same thing over and over - how great poise and good breathing can be for sitting, standing, golf, dance, singing, pool. I would think that your average person who has puchased this book would have already made up their mind that Alexander was a good thing and wouldn't need a glorified, extended promotional pamphlet to confirm this.

There are about 8 pages in the whole thing that give you some tips on self-evaluation and positioning, but other than that, it is really not of much practical use. Yes, there are many photos of people "before and after" alexander in particular positions, but that wasn't enough for my $13.

If you are looking to see how alexander can be applied to your life, maybe then this book would provide some value, but in truth, the Gelb book does a better job doing that anyway.

  3. This is one of the best Alexander Technique books I have seen in the 30 years I have been interested in the technique. The author is an Irish Alexander teacher and trainer of other Alexander teachers.

I have put into immediate use some of the exercises in the book and it has helped me dramatically.

I very highly recommend this book!

  4. Any who struggle with posture issues will find THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE MANUAL: TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR POSTURE AND YOUR LIFE goes beyond the usual admonitions and shows how to release muscular tension, learn new ways of sitting, standing and moving, and relieve common aches. Large color photos show how individuals can achieve their own chiropractic-type adjustments, increase sensitivity to movement choices, and learn new techniques. Both health libraries and general-interest collections will find this invaluable.

5 comments about The Instinct to Heal: Curing Depression, Anxiety and Stress Without Drugs and Without Talk Therapy.
  1. Reading this book, reiterated a regimen I once used to follow. Taking fish oil, (as one of the procedures). Could not believe how effective it was. Here I am on one of the worst days of my menstrual cycle (usually) day 27, smiling, relaxed, and totally happy, without a care in the world. So unusual is that for me. This book has a few other solutions such as excercise and acupuncture, and one of them is bound to work for you as well. Thanks David Servan-Schreiber, for writing this book!

  2. This is a great book on depression, stress and anxiety. I had a little "baby blues" after my first child was born, so I checked this book out from the library. I liked it so much that I bought it for reference and to lend out to my friends and family. It is full of very good information on depression, and the examples are very interesting. It reads slowly at first because it is so dense with information and new ideas, but if you can get through the first 100 pages, it moves a lot faster. It seems like we all know someone who suffers from these problems, and we all have them ourselves from time to time. I recommend this book without inhibition to anyone interested in the subject.

  3. When a member of our book club picked this for our discussion, I was less than enthusiastic. Oh, another one of those, I thought. Then, as a loyal member, I started to read and was amazed. Well documented scientifically, extremely well written and eye-openning. The Instinct to Heal is an invitation to a way of looking at alternative ways of managing both physical and mental health that even nay-sayers can enagage with. Well worth a read.

  4. This book gives both an excellent scientific basis (the author is an MD and a neuroscientist) for how emotions work and an excellent roadmap for how to gain emotional wellness through the physical self (attention to certain dietary aspects, exercise, and Eastern practices, along with the author's special technique of EMDR.) This book is easy to read and understand, with excellent practical advice. It is refreshing to get advice from a Western doctor that is not just about pill-pushing! The ideas and goals in the book are attainable by everyone.

  5. This is a wonderful book for health practitioners and also people who experience depression. This book is full of alternative options to explore the mind and body.

5 comments about When Perfect Isn't Good Enough: Strategies for Coping with Perfectionism.
  1. I've struggled my whole life with a number of issues: perfectionism, low self-esteem, self-destructive behaviour.

This despite the fact that I'm intelligent. Intelligence isn't always enough. Some of us need practical help to see where our thinking patterns and actions are flawed or self-defeating. Without external help it's difficult to be objective about this.

"When Perfect isn't Good Enough" is a practical self-help book to assist you in identifying and changing perfectionistic thinking patterns. I only bought the book recently, but I've already been bowled over by the number of insights I've gained from its pages. I plan to study and fully integrate the info over time. I can only imagine how doing so will contribute to my productivity!

Other exceptional self-help books that I would like to recommend are:
    * The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
    * The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden
    * Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman

None of these books are quick-fixes. Integrating their contents takes a lot of work and courage, but the results are of inestimable value!

  2. This book contains exactly what I was looking for the past 10 years. I've learned much about myself. I would probably not read the last section b/c it's just a repeat of what's in the book, but being a perfectionist, I had to. If you can stand it, only read what applies to you in the last section and save your time for something else.

  3. After reading Leman's "The Birth Order Book" and seeing that my wife and myself have been struggling with the predicted first-born power struggles and head butting for the last 10 years, both of us as "discouraged perfectionists" were looking for a book to offer pragmatic solutions for change.

In looking at the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this book, I purchased it. The book has some major draw-backs:

    1. The text addresses perfectionism according to Hewitt & Flett, and Frost; however, the typical treatment of perfectionism is one usually of an aggressive perfectionist, such as a "nag" or a critical boss; this is not reflective of the "discouraged perfectionist" and often leaves one thinking "ok... this would be a good strategy if I was a freak-out, but it doesn't really apply to me"

    2. The authors have an ideological bias that is evident throughout the text which I would describe as "open-minded liberalism" combined with "anti-religious," which is really quite disturbing. Examples that stick out in my mind include:
p46 - a comparison of "the right way" to wash dishes is compared with "wrong" ways leads to reader to accept that "washing" may entail soaking dishes in water without soap is somehow equally acceptable (as if sanitation is invalid as a basis for a "right way")
p50 - Attending church services are an outlet of attempting to confirm perfectionistic beliefs rather than seeking out experiences that "challenge" those beliefs
p180 - where a therapist convinces a patient that the daughter comes home from college with a lip-piercing isn't as big of a deal as it feels

    3. The demeanor the authors use is almost as if they are not addressing a condition that affects people in very personal ways which causes internal conflict and real heart-ache. They might as well be addressing bicycle repair, how to implement work-arounds in Chebyshev filter design software, or dog-training. These are exactly the kinds of individuals I strongly suspect of total hypocrisy, and I wonder how screwed up their own marriages and children are

In conclusion, this book may be very good for a certain cross-section of people (which is why I gave it two stars instead of one), i.e. perfectionists who are obsessive, angry, controlling neat-freaks. But for the rest of those who might be considered relatively "normal" or who are just looking to relate better with others, this book will probably be inadequate.

  4. It was a blow for me when I learned that I am a perfectionist. I started reading about it, and this was my first book. It was hard from time to time to face the truth that this book was presenting me.

  5. Hardly user friendly, though it attempts to be a book for a lay audience, it fails miserably succeeding only in writing a watered down academic article. If you are a fan of superficial platitudes masquerading as strategy, then this is book for you. Might as well save your 10 or 13 dollars, google perfectionism, and read the ehow version--you're getting the same thing minus the money and the time wasted sifting through bad writing and even worse style.

5 comments about Unleash Your True Potential (Diviniti) (Diviniti) (Diviniti) (Divinity).
  1. I've only recently discovered the work of Glenn Harold. This is one of his most popular CDs and there is a good reason why. I like this CD mainly because there is no b.s. like on so many others. Everything is straight to the point, first you relax, then some positive affirmations are suggested to your unconscious mind which has to absorb them and start executing. One drawback is that I find he speaks a little too fast and leaves no time for the material to sink in. Perhaps if the pace was a bit slower, I would've given this CD five stars. Overall, good starting point for hypnosis exploration.

  2. I own several of Glenn Harrold's CDs. I've tried many other relaxation/hypnosis products over the years and Glenn Harrold's are by far-and-away the best I've heard. As many of the other reviews have pointed out, the production values on these CDs are extraordinary, but that's not what makes them special. What makes these CDs special is how good they leave you FEELING.

Many of the other hypnosis recordings I've tried would either put me to sleep half of the time or just feel like a chore to listen to. Glenn Harrold's CDs actually make for a very enjoyable and pleasant listening experience. And regardless of how I felt before hand, I'm always left feeling refreshed, serene and on an "even keel".

If you're looking to purchase just one hypnosis title, make it one of Glenn Harrold's. You will not be disappointed.

  3. His voice an proper grammar have taken a while for me to get used to without smiling. By the second track I am often out. Whether my life is changing I will have to keep you all posted.
    ;-)

  4. These CD's are an easy listen filled with wonderfully phrased, motivational words. Glenn's Australian accent is a pleasure to listen to. Places on the CD have music as well that accompanies the voice. I LOVE these CD's and own most of them. If you live in the states you may hear an occassional terminology that is not common in the U.S. (Example, in the weight series he uses a weight measurement of a 'stone' which is a British term that represents 14 pounds). This happen rarely and certainly does not detract from the message presented in any of Glenn's CD's. You can't really listen to these in the car as they are a little hypnotic so be sure you are in a stress free mind set and location when you listen to any of therse CD's. I felt they were worth every penny.

  5. Glenn Harold's voice is hypnotic and relaxing to listen to.

The echoes, music and other special effects used in this cd really helps, by the next day I catch myself restating the affirmations in my mind.

(I'll be purchasing more of Glenn Ford's hypnosis!)
