5 comments about Blue Truth: A Spiritual Guide to Life & Death and Love & Sex.
- This is a truly amazing book. This is the second David Deida book I have read. Six months ago I started my first year of law school, in a new city where I knew nobody. I was really lost for a long time and hit a new low. I eventually took the initiative to do several things to improve my situation, and this book was one of them. It has really helped to change my life by realizing just how closed off I was/am to the world. Change is a slow process, of course, but this book really helped and continues to help. The advice is solid, true, and open. There are no false pretenses in this book; no ego; just insight and something that offers to help.
Also, Deida's writing style is very beautiful and sincere, which makes the book that much more helpful.
- What a delight to read a man's perspective on the feminine and have it resonate so clearly. This was recommended by one of my spiritual "brothers" and I found it to be a sensitive, aware portrayal of the masculine/feminine dynamic - at least as far as it goes. I'm sure he says other things elsewhere, and I'll be reading some of them. It's a book for women to better understand men, and vice versa. What a huge contribution that is!
- David Deida is a God send,. Read any and all his books if you are ready to take your whole life to the next level. I am so grateful on many different levels for the wisdom, clarity, love and honor he passes on.
- This book may change your life. I carried it around with me to read soundbites throughout the day for months at a time- after I'd read it cover to cover. I find myself quoting from this book for people who are needing some inspiration or to just give someone a little "medicine" where I think that they might need it. Beautiful and poignant.
I'd like to respond to the only "one star" review given this book. If you notice, it is NOT a book review. It is a character assassination from someone who is obviously bitter about a teacher of David Deida's. I could care less where Deida learned and experienced the concepts of this book, the fact is that they work, they are beautiful- yes, controversial- but still beautiful. I've found my feminine essence where I didn't know it existed. In my lover, I now know what it feels like to be a woman. I did NOT know this before discovering the works of Deida. I hope that you read this book.
- I cried through the first few chapters. I thought the book was concise and yet really powerful. I've read a lot of David Deida's books, and while the message is absolutely stunning, the writing is sometimes confusing. I feel this one is very clear, very much to the point and very deep. Blue Truth could very well be one of these books that I end up reading over and over again, until I feel it is embedded into my very being. The experience that I get reading it is really strong and life altering.

5 comments about 365 Days Of Walking The Red Road: The Native American Path to Leading a Spiritual Life Every Day (Religion and Spirituality).
- I bought this book expecting it to be spiritual and some of the statements were, but they were not backed up with anything that relates to how the Indians incorporated those thoughts into THEIR daily lives. I just got an unrelated history lesson. For example, Feb. 10th-"To clothe a man falsley is to distress his spirit..." Then the next information on that page is about a Native Day in American History on "Feb 10th 1763 The French ceded the North Americans territory to England in the Treaty of Paris, ending the French and Indian War (1754-1763)." Now, what do the two have to do with each other? Or at least put something in about how Native Americans dress or something related to the spiritual quote of the day. The format bugged me. There is some good information, but very poorly organized.
- Recived this book in fast time and am very happy i lost my other one i have been without it for a while, i use this daily, the book was in excelent shape. thank you,if ever i find another item from this person i would diffently buy thank you again
- This book is a wonderful reference for all Native Americans and I have had it for years. My purchase was to pass it along to friends to enjoy as much as I have enjoyed it.
- This book is a clear winner for those that journey the Red Road. The "365 Days of Walking the Red Road" is best read at a time that you and your partner, and children can settle down for a few minutes. It's thought provoking, enlightening, and lots of other good stuff, and they are short, and gentle, and contain much Wisdom. Quotes of famous Native Americans are a Bonus. There are many, "Did You Know?" panels that give little known fact about Native Americans. An all around good book for anybody.
- I have had quite a few one day at a time books and so far I love this one the most. Sometimes I sneak more than one read a day its so good. I sit outside and read with the birds and other critters with my coffee and song in my heart...and this keeps it going.

5 comments about SoulCollage: An Intuitive Collage Process for Individuals and Groups.
- I like this book. It contains useful collage information, wonderful examples of works done and a unique perspective on obtaining ideas for doing the collage. You esentially end up with a beautiful psychic tarot deck, very intuitive and fun. I do wish it had more color pictures.
- The SoulCollage process is an amazing tool for exploring your inner world and discovering who/what resides within. Highly recommended.
- If you love the idea of collage because you can't draw... If you enjoy using "cards" in a spiritual practice... This is just such a lovely book and opens so many creative and wonderful personal possibilities.
- SoulCollage is a truly relevant and important process orientated book by a very knowledgeable author. This book is clear, concise and to the point. Inner processes, thoughts and knowledge(s) are discovered, explored, and analysed. I believe that this book could change lives.
- From the review I thought this might be a Christian based art book. It is not at all! It kind of gives me the creeps actually.

5 comments about The Dark Night of the Soul: A Psychiatrist Explores the Connection Between Darkness and Spiritual Growth.
- While I didn't feel this book was incredible, probably due to my lack of knowledge about works of John and Theresa ....
...however I read this book while I was going through my own dark night of the soul..it was the whole reason I bought it..I had broken a leg and was on some type of soul journey..It helped me calm some fears, and helped me further my spirituality quest...it aligned with some other things I was reading at the time, and led me on a search into buddhism.. If you are looking for a book that' self help..this probably isn't it.. but if you want someone to make sense of all the things you feel about your spirutuality, espicially in the "dark night" ...this may be the book for you.
I do recommend this book, however I only gave it three stars because I wasn't blown away by it, and once I felt better...I kinda didn't care to read it :/..but it made it's impact on me nonetheless.
- In his last book published before his death, Jerry May unfolds his vast knowledge and understanding of the spirtual state known as the Dark Night. Contrary to what one might think, the Dark Night is not the same as clinical depression, nor is it dark and depressing. Rather, it is, in the words of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross, "obscure," because we don't understand what God is accomplishing in us. It is a very comforting and illuminating book. No one can make these Sixteenth Century saints clearer in the light of modern psychiatry like Gerald May, MD. An excellent book.
- For years I have tried to understand St. John of the Cross's meaning of this phrase. Dr. May has taken the thoughts and writtings of St. John and brought it to an understandable level. What does it mean to suffer pain in this life? Is it something that only I suffer or is it a common experience among all of us? Dr. May answers the question and explains the beauty of St. John's words and the debth of spirit in the story of St. John's own life.
- I have read a lot of John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, this book is a must for anyone that is interested in Spirituality. It explains how the read John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila. It is written in a way any one can understand. The book will answer a lot of questions for you.
I will always keep the book close to reread it.
- Dr. May's book provides an easy to understand introduction to the Dark Night of the Soul works of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila. The book is infused with humor and practical ways to interpret dark night concepts. Readers who have 12-step experience will appreciate the references to compulsions and addictions.

5 comments about Finding Your Way Home: A Soul Survival Kit.
- I first read this book about 8 years ago and reread it this year. I thought it was excellent as a first read, and even better the second time around. It has definitely changed my life in a very positive way once again. I am going to keep this one on my nightstand for times when I need simple reminders to guide me through difficult situations. Though they seem simplistic at first glance, her ideas and suggestions are extremely profound and wonderful for those of us searching for peace.
- Ok book. I don't much like the remedies at end of many of the activities, but the main text is pretty good. I underlined a lot of things that were powerful to me.
- This book has a much more of a "new age" feel to it than Codependent No More. This might be a selling point for someone else, but it was a real turn off for me. Codependent No More and Beyond Codependency are still my favorites by her.
- I have long been a fan of Melody Beattie and this book is no different. Very well written and based on Melody's life experiences, this book helped me understand that, really, I am not alone in my confusion with my life.
- I searched for this book, based on my familiarity with Beattie's other helpful works. I found a chapter entitled, "Healing Fear," read a few paragraphs, and decided this book was a keeper. This ability to find a title of a chapter and not follow any sequential order is a strength of the book for me. This particular chapter on healing fear is concrete, specific and rich with examples and simple truths that help me.
Beattie offers mantras as the end of each chapter. Some have wording that I find awkward, even with repetition. Others I use easily. Her concept of a "Soul Survival Kit" resonates with me, as I relate well to visual images.
The book is a good resource for me when I find I have wandered off track and need balance restored in my life. Thumbing through the index, or selecting a particular chapter title always offers me some wisdom.

5 comments about Entering the Castle: Exploring Your Mystical Experience of God: 9-CD Live Lecture!.
- I have only words of gratitude and praise for this particular work of Caroline Myss. Having read her books and listened to many of her other audio lectures over the years, for me this was the most powerful, honest, and uplifting. I did not find any part of this lecture to be "harsh" or "shrill" (as some have commented) -- but instead found her to be at her most passionate. Love radiates from this CD set -- love for Humanity, personal and impersonal. I would recommend it to anyone on this Path who is capable of being sternly honest with themselves, on all levels. A beautiful work!
- When I first started to listen to this set of Cd's I almost stopped listening to them. They are so punitive. Yet I found kernels of truth within the words. The book is about Teresa of Avila, a mystic that lived within the confines of the Spanish Inquisition. It is all about getting closer to God. Yet, that closeness is the ultimate sacrifice, giving up any ideas of rewards. I had the impression that I should adorn a hair shirt and rip myself to shreds. There is little within it that is uplifting. If you enter upon this journey according to the author be prepared to suffer, you will not enter a spa. Yet, I continued to listen because there were still things about it that spoke to me. Perhaps it was my southern baptist fire and brimstone raising. It is different and will perhaps teach you how to get rid of the reptiles in your soul.
- I couldn't even get through the all the CD's. When she was active as a medical intuitive, then her work shined. It's when she veered off course into subjects such as "grace", that she lost me. I don't need to be scolded and name calling is definitely something that I will not tolerate and if I was to hear her carry on in a workshop like that, well, I'd have to leave. On one of her earlier CD's, I can recall her saying that she doesn't read letters of criticism, so she probably doesn't read online reviews either. Arrogant! No matter. It's the buyer that should beware. She preaches humility but she sure doesn't practice it. I haven't renewed my online newsletter either because of her mean spirited attitude towards her students in general and New Agers in particular, who are her bread and butter, whether she admits to it or not. Her earlier work...love it! Now, though, she's full of herself and I'm going to resist the urge to purchase any more of her work because I know it will just be more of the same angry diatribe and I just do not need it!
- The subject matter of this book and CD set is fascinating. However, Myss has so contaminated it with her berating, shrill, negative parent tone I couldn't stand to listen for very long. Worse, as anyone who has studied meditation knows, when you are in a meditative state you are very receptive to what other people say. As a result, I felt like I was being psychicly abused every time I would follow her directions into a deep meditative state and then be berated by her. As far as I am concerned, this is spiritual abuse and until she changes her ways people should stop buying CDs, reading books or attending workshops by this woman.
- I've had this CD series since it was released (May 2007), and after listening to the first two CDs--I just couldn't take Caroline's sneering, spiteful rants against her audience.
I've reviewed many of Caroline's books, audios and DVDs and have been a student of her various teachings for almost a decade. So yes, I'm definitely used to her bluntness and questionable "teaching" methods, especially in audio format (it doesn't come out in book form, thankfully).
But the Entering the Castle series stunned me. It just blew me away. I'm sitting there thinking "Oh my God. She's lecturing about mysticism, about closeness with the Divine, about getting rid of so-called 'reptiles'--and then spits out condescending, mean-spirited, belittling, lambasting rants."
After taking careful notes for the first two CDs, I just had to stop. I simply couldn't do it anymore.
So it's been sitting on my shelf all this time. And I'm getting ready to sell it.
As one who has lived a mystic's life since I was a child (it was an archetypal pattern, nothing that my environment fostered--that's for sure), as well as hearing the voice of Jesus since about age 6, I'm quite familiar with mystical visions, voices, revelations and insights.
But this? This stuff sounds like a bitter nun raging against the lack of righteousness among humanity while, at the same time, attempting to teach about the incredible wonder of the Divine, virtues like humility (?!), and intimacy with one's soul. Caroline's God resembles the deity of fundamentalism: angry, capricious, conditional and in need of appeasement.
Your true interior castle is just that: within. And, frankly, no one--not even a supposed mystic--can take you there. You must journey for yourself, exploring each room, appointing it with what matters to you--as well as what scares you--and then confront, accept, and transform what you find there with the aid of Divine strength.
Sorry, but Caroline's offerings are getting worse and worse, especially the audio CDs. If you must, buy her book Interior Castle--but realize that her portrait and experience of Divinity doesn't have to be yours.
For a great audio on Christian mysticism, I recommend Wild at Heart: Radical Teachings of the Christian Mystics by Tessa Bielecki instead.
Blessings,
Janet Boyer - Author of Back in Time Tarot

5 comments about The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny.
- I bought this book because it was recommended to me by someone I trust, but upon starting to read it, I was almost convinced I would return it. Among other things, the writing style is a mess, the voice of the narrator keeps shifting, the design with purple bars down the margins and purple boxes for different texts is irritating. However, I kept reading because I got caught up in the story of the Jane Attwood's trip to India, and I was intrigued about the Passion Test: a method to discover the 5 top things you are passionate about and how to achieve them in your life.
I found the test to be incredibly helpful to me. I am a woman in my mid-30s with a relatively successful career, but I feel that I have always been uncommitted to my profession. Taking the Passion Test helped me to clarify my goals, realize what I like and dislike about my job, and motivate me towards further career growth. It also helped me for personal growth as well, but it was really insight into my professional life that blew me away and made me decide that this is a book worth having around.
One of the things that I like best about this book is that it advocates an active approach to life. Other books that emphasize positive thinking seem to focus on patience and passive acceptance. As a goal-oriented person, I like to take the bull by the horns and set things in motion myself, not wait for them to happen. In that respect, this book is a great motivator.
This book takes as a point of departure the belief in a higher power. It is not for atheists or skeptics. It is regrettable that the negative reviews of this book are what people find the most helpful. Clearly, The Passion Test is not for everyone and could have done with more careful editing, but it is a book that will help people that are at a crossroads in their life, that need to make crucial decisions, and/or that need a little push to propel them towards the road to success.
- I received this as a recommendation from T. Harv Eker so I naturally was excited to read the book. I really wanted to believe but at the end I felt that it didn't really teach me anything. God bless this woman for her treks to India and wherever.. but it didn't really help to answer any deep questions for me.
If you are drawn to this book I believe there are certainly better options to help you find your path. Although this may speak differently to certain people.
- I should have read the other negative reviews before buying this book. The Passion Test is nothing more than making a list of 10 things you like and then whittling it down. No insight, no creativity, no help.
One thing is clear: The author's passion is marketing pap to the pseudo-spiritual seekers. Save your money.
- The Passion Test system of clarifying, prioritizing, deepening and aligning yourself with your dreams and purpose has been like a rocket launch for my life, propelling me forward into higher realms of peace, joy and fulfillment I have never known before. Following every step in the process, "working" and living the principles set forth in this powerful book has freed me to utilize the gifts I was given, and Be the person I was meant to be, on a whole new level. I am a counselor and motivational speaker and the Passion Test system has been a great tool in helping my client break free out of their own boxes and begin to fly! This book is not for everyone, only those who truly want to live a passionate, amazing life!
- This is a very easy read, with a very simple process that will absolutely help you define yourself. And if you think you have already done that, then this book is even more important for you. Creating clarity is the first step towards achieving anything.
Maybe, just maybe you will be one of the few that can not relate to this book, but is it worth the time and money to determine that for yourself? Absolutely. I have read countless books on success, leadership, spirituality and everything in between, this book is a must for anyone seeking to create more abundance, joy and peace in their lives.

5 comments about Practicing Peace in Times of War.
- I loved this book. It was concise and powerful, like a distillation of her other books. It also gave me new perspectives on the subjects that have already been talked about, which is sometimes exactly what one needs.
- The book concept is great. But in actuality, trying to apply this is really hard. If each one of us could wait to respond to provoking situations, and really think about how to respond in a kind and compassionate, non-provoking manner, and then teach our children, friends and family the same method, wow! what potential for peace! The book is very short and easy to read. I would like to have the author narrate how in specific situations this actually works. She does, but personally I need more help than this small book to really catch on. I will probably look into another book by this author in hopes of finding more on this subject.
- Choderon's books keep getting shorter and clearer. Here she gives a little classic of straight-talking compassion. In a world obsessed with finding security she speaks of living with "positive insecurity". In a simple, honest way she demonstrates how to culivate our own peace step by step, and why it matters so much:
"If we arn't training inch by inch, one moment at a time, in overcoming our fear of pain, then we'll be very limited in how much we can help. We'll be limited in helping ourselves, and limited in helping anyone else. So, let's start with ourselves just as we are, here and now." (p. 78)
- Love this tiny book, which fits in my purse. I can refer to it when I'm running errands. I am becoming aware of how powerful my ego is. I am "awakening" slowly and it helps me get my head around this ego issue and how detramental ego is to me, personally.
- This is not a long read, but it takes time to go through it.
In a veryto-the-point manner, Chodron explains how the seeds of peace and war start with the individual reaction to life situations. We have the choice to effect others by our reaction to potentially violent situations. We can choose to get angry when someone cuts off off, or we can continue on our way. Like the inmate in San Quentin, we can take out our frustrations on a sea gull blown in by a storm or we can tell the crowd to back off because "the bird has my wings."
For therapists who use cognitive behavior therephy, the third chapter is the best description of how to engage cognitive thinking when faced with a situation which can trigger a patterned response.
A book that will linger with you long after reading. Get 2 copies. You will want to pass it along to a friend. Once you do, it will be sent out never to return!

5 comments about The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond.
- I bought three books (this is one of them) to give as gifts from amazon. I was apprehensive they would not be on time for a golden wedding anniversary and 50th birthday of a close relative.
Firstly, the books where in mint condition with superb contents and apropos for the occasion (good guidance from brief descriptions by amazon) and best of all delivery was precise. Provided tracking was accurate with a couple of days to spare.
Amazon is still excellent in all aspect as I keep dealing with it! KUDOS!!!!
- I thought I had ordered the book but it seems the CD was ordered instead. Fortunately the author was kind enough to refund my money but I was very disappointed. After researching what had been the communication problem, the person who was circulating the CD as part of her lecture series was advertising the CD under the book title then stating she was replacing the book with the CD. I personally feel that is an inappropriate way to advertise her product and it should be done separately. I may reorder the book at a later date obviously through a different Amazon distributor.
- Thought-provoking, comprehensive, and chock full of pertinent information, Pamela Blair's book is an invaluable guide for the woman crossing over to midlife.
The reader can explore every aspect of what lies ahead for her as an older woman in 150 short essays that range from cultural attitudes and myths about aging women to such practical matters as health, finances, and relationships.
The author poses questions at the end of each essay to which the reader can respond to by journaling right in the book, making it a highly personal experience.
As an added bonus, a study guide is provided at the end of the book for women who wish to meet in discussion groups using The Next Fifty Years.
This book is the perfect companion for the woman who wants to better understand and enter in celebratory fashion midlife and beyond.
- Chloe Jon Paul
- I liked this workbook. It is comprehensive and divided into four sections: Thoughts, Cultural Attitudes and Myths about Women Aging; Who we are, Who and What We Live With; and Looking Forward. In her introduction, Blair suggests that we skip sections which do not apply to us. All of her short essays are followed by space in which to respond to questions such as "how does this feel?" or, more specifically, asking for a response to the issue addressed.
There were sections which did not pique my curiosity and I did read through those quickly. However, on a whole, the issues addressed are those which we, as women in the second half of life, should be thinking about. Her style gives us an opportunity for reflection, but does not ask us to spend hours thinking and writing. One could work through a section or even a few pages, put it down, pick it up and still follow the flow of the concepts.
Blair's book is intended to be used as a personal journal but could be used in a discussion/writing group following the study guide in the back or any other format deemed fitting for a group of women. It is well written researched and easy to follow.
The titles of her essays are enough to entice one to read. For example: Myths to Not Live By, Changing Tempo, Aging Can Be Fun? Ages and Stages and An Attitude of Gratitude. There is a long bibliography and a study guide. Her writing is pleasing and her flashes of humor and mini-stories about herself keep The Next Fifty Years from being a dry workbook. Blair feels that "we have an assignment to make clear our role in society: to inscribe the possibilities of age on the guideposts to the future."

5 comments about Radiant Mind: Awakening Unconditioned Awareness.
- Whether you are an experienced meditator and long-time scholar or a complete beginner, Peter's teaching on these CDs will lead you to a direct experience of unconditioned mind, which is ineffable, i.e. your mind in its natural state, beyond words, ideas and concepts.
If you have read the book, you should still order the audio CDs. The richness of Peter's verbal expression, with its emphasis and significant spaces communicates this experience in a way the book cannot. You can actually participte with him in this experience. He is an extraordinary teacher.
Radiant Mind: Teachings & Practices to Awaken Unconditioned Awareness (Sounds True Audio Learning Course)
- The purpose of Radiant Mind is to turn the reader's attention toward cultivating unconditioned awareness in the midst of everyday experience. Peter Fenner is a well known teacher, writer, scholar, and counselor. In the world of nonduality, Radiant Mind is one of the few all-encompassing, structured nondual teachings for students of the early 2000s. If your current involvement with nondual teachings is unsatisfactory, you may be very pleased with the breadth and depth of Radiant Mind. I recommend investigating it.
Fenner anticipates and confronts the reader's avoidance and dishonesty. He points out the difference between disconnecting from and deconstructing our problems. He's honest: "We don't necessarily want to examine our patterns. In fact, the patterns are constructed with a dual purpose. They are designed to sabotage our life and the lives of others, but in such a way that we don't recognize them."
Following each chapter are exercises. Their initial objective is to connect you with your fixations or conditioned existence. Then the exercises are designed to cultivate unconditioned awareness through sitting, pure listening, and various ways of deconstruction, especially conversations: "These conversations dismantle the structures of our conditioning and introduce us to the experience of contentless awareness."
For those who think they are beyond meditation, or contemplative practice, Fenner points out that practice is necessary in order to reveal to us that practice is not necessary. More honesty: "This constant denial saps our energy and demoralizes us, because we're engaged in a losing battle with a reality that simply isn't interested in our existence."
Peter Fenner does not allow you hide anywhere. He knows all your tricks and spells them out. At the same time, he is open about the paradox of functioning out of the nondual space. He says, "You're so complete it doesn't mean anything to say you're complete. This book is a paradox. ... I'm sure you also know that it has nothing to do with unconditioned awareness."
Counselors, psychotherapists, coaches, spiritual teachers, and self-realized gurus looking for ways to explain things better, and anyone functioning within, or with, or as the paradox, will benefit from reading Radiant Mind.
Radiant Mind may also be engaged as an 8-month course. Fenner mentions the course in passing at the very end of the book. He gives all he's got within the limitations of a book. The course is not necessary, however the serious reader/student will know soon enough.
Finally, I want to briefly talk about the index. The index is excellent and professional. The only thing that puzzles me is why the material in the exercises at the end of each chapter was not indexed.
For example, under the entry "pure listening," all the appropriate page numbers in the book are noted except for pages 123-124, which are exercises in pure listening. Perhaps the indexer or publisher could explain to me the justification. Aside from that, it is one of the best indexes in the nonduality genre today. That the Appendix on Radiant Communication was indexed is commendable.
Jerry Katz
One: Essential Writings on Nonduality
- For those seeking some form of Enlightenment, Fenner shines a bright, if not harsh, light on just what enlightment is - and is not. His writing is actually very positive and helps one to experience the non-dual in everyday life (hence: Radiant Mind), instead of merely seeking to "be" non-dual, which of course is an impossibility. This is the CD version - it is clear but Fenner does speak a bit slowly, perhaps attempting to induce a calm aura into his ideas. Very straight forward and down to earth, a welcome change to the Ken Wilber style. A valuable addition to a seeker's library.
- This book is exceptionally clear and lucid, while covering material that is deep and too often difficult.
If you pay close attention, you'll be able to notice that the author gives us readers a *process*, somethings to do...that help us get results.
This isn't theory-only, it's very practical.
If you want good background and foundation, processes and methods that work, if you want to come away with clarity and be able to make progress -- then this is one of those rare books that will give you all that.
- Radiant Mind is a fantastic book! Having read many books on Zen, Buddhism and meditation, along with personal training and meditation retreats, I have to say Fenner nails it! It is difficult to say exactly what it was in the book that was most meaningful, but what Fenner says and how he says it definately gave me several Ah-Ha moments. Similar to Adyashanti's teachings, if you have moved beyond dogma and liturgy in Buddhism, and are truely looking for the essense of Buddha's awakening, then this work is where you want to spend time. It is a book I will return to many times.
