5 comments about Dream Language: The Prophetic Power of Dreams.
  1. Janes & Michal Ann Goll have written a very informative, educational and most of all inspiring book. God does speak to us in our dreams!

  2. Wow, wow wow this was such a blessing, now and then when I don't understand certain things in my dream I will go to the glossary list sort of like a dictionary at the back of the book for dreams. Wow the whole book has being highlighted and praise the Lord is was great and I enjoyed it. The Goll family were right on point and I thank God for the gifts He has given Goll in dream area. Praise the Lord.

  3. Very well written. I highly recommend this book. I would purchase this book again and give to others, that is just how good it is. This is the second book which I have read by the author. The service from this vendor was excellent as well

  4. This book really helps to confirm a lot of what I already know about Dream Journaling and Interpretation. The authors are very Highly Recommended. I have read maybe about 5 in my life time and I always make sure I choose them wisely according to content. This is one that I would tell anybody to please purchase and read. 5 KUDOS!!!

    Lanesa Stubbs

  5. I recommend this VERY highly. The book contains excellent definitions, great stories and is well-written and enjoyable to read (nice for nonfiction!). I enjoyed it so much as I, my family and church members have referred to it for interpretations and clarity. It's also apparent that the Golls have spent years living this out so there is real substance to what they write. Enjoy it yourself!

5 comments about Mastering Your Hidden Self: Guide to the Huna Way (A Quest Book).
  1. I picked up this book while browsing the alternative health section of the Rochester Borders Book Store. I had to stand on the little stool to reach the top shelf & found this little volume by accident. I have been studying Daoist meditation and healing methods and found a great similarity in this book in describing the non-verbal holistic "powers" of the mind. In Tai Chi Chuan we say "Where the mind (yi) goes the energy (qi, chi) follows." The key is to relax and stop trying to analyze everything. Let the chit chat in your mind quiet down, drop your expectations and see what happens. You might be surprised at the powerful results

  2. People who are in the know about the Aquarian Age and the upcoming demands on the psychic advancement of mankind, will find this a great learning manual. Compare these to the works by Hawai`i-based author, Robert B. Stone, _The Power of Miracle Metaphysics_, and _The Magic of Psychotronic Power_, which also involve the reader in activities towards a result: the improvement from within and how to live your life more "deliberately", as Thoreau would have had it... Look at it this way: you could fill your head with TV shows and movies; you could study astronomy or geology for a lifetime; but will these *make you a better person*? Think: How best to spend my precious time on this earth? Watching back-to-back beer and soloflex ads on the tube, or getting your hoo-hah together and moving forward into the future with extra knowledge obtained from vantage points only *you* have traversed? Learn Hawaiian at the same time...the occult parts of a very nature-oriented language that is rife with double-meanings, and within it you will find the secret of your own mind in the beauty of the blossoming of the simple flower. Study, meditate, study, meditate...Malama Pono Mau Loa

  3. I read this book early in my HUNA studies, and did not know enough to spot the errors.

Since then; I have taken the HUNA course from HRI (HUNA Research Inc.), read every HUNA related book I could lay my hands on, and gained first hand HUNA experience.

Here are three errors that bother me the most.

    1. the author implies that Jesus and the early church practised HUNA (Also one of Max Freedom Long's errors in logic). It's true that the early church did energy work, but that does not necessarily mean they practised HUNA. I studied Qigong (originating in China), Reiki (originating in Japan), Seichim (originating in Egypt, HUNA (originating in Hawaii), and others. I am trying to say that energy work has been practised EVERYWHERE.

    2. The author misnames the three selves (or spirits) associated with a person. Unihipili (ku), Uhane (lono), and Aumakua (Kane). Ku, Lono, and Kane are three if the gods Hawaiians acknowledged.

    3. The author lists seven aspects of a human being. This is in error. There are Ten aspects of a human being.

three spirits (Unihipili, Uhane, Aumakua), three aka bodies for the three selves, three voltages of Mana (Mana (used by the Unihipili); Mana mana (used by the Uhane); Mana loa (used by the Aumakua), and the physical body. 3+3+3+1=10

If you are interested in HUNA; I would suggest that you look elsewhere.

"Fundamentals Of Hawaiian Mysticism" Charlotte Berney

    "HUNA Magic" John Bainbridge

"Hawaiian Magic And Spirituality" Scott Cunningham

"The Secret Science At Work" Max Freedom Long

Please see my complete list of HUNA related titles.

I encourage questions and comments about my reviews; Two Bears.

Wah doh Ogedoda (We give thanks Great Spirit)

  4. While I don't claim to be a master of what Huna "should" be, I will just comment on some of the useful things that I enjoy about this book.

I like things that do what they claim they will. As simply as possible, the results I get when I apply the Huna principles within Mastering Your Hidden Self are the results that are claimed I will get. That's good enough for me.

As another reviewer elegantly stated, there is a nice "description" of how the "subconscious" works.

From someone without a degree in Huna (myself) this book is very helpful in making changes.

  5. This book explains everything, psychology, sociology, cosmology and it is easy to read, best self help book I read.

5 comments about Finding Your Way Home: A Soul Survival Kit.
  1. I first read this book about 8 years ago and reread it this year. I thought it was excellent as a first read, and even better the second time around. It has definitely changed my life in a very positive way once again. I am going to keep this one on my nightstand for times when I need simple reminders to guide me through difficult situations. Though they seem simplistic at first glance, her ideas and suggestions are extremely profound and wonderful for those of us searching for peace.

  2. Ok book. I don't much like the remedies at end of many of the activities, but the main text is pretty good. I underlined a lot of things that were powerful to me.

  3. This book has a much more of a "new age" feel to it than Codependent No More. This might be a selling point for someone else, but it was a real turn off for me. Codependent No More and Beyond Codependency are still my favorites by her.

  4. I have long been a fan of Melody Beattie and this book is no different. Very well written and based on Melody's life experiences, this book helped me understand that, really, I am not alone in my confusion with my life.

  5. I searched for this book, based on my familiarity with Beattie's other helpful works. I found a chapter entitled, "Healing Fear," read a few paragraphs, and decided this book was a keeper. This ability to find a title of a chapter and not follow any sequential order is a strength of the book for me. This particular chapter on healing fear is concrete, specific and rich with examples and simple truths that help me.

Beattie offers mantras as the end of each chapter. Some have wording that I find awkward, even with repetition. Others I use easily. Her concept of a "Soul Survival Kit" resonates with me, as I relate well to visual images.

The book is a good resource for me when I find I have wandered off track and need balance restored in my life. Thumbing through the index, or selecting a particular chapter title always offers me some wisdom.

5 comments about It's Not About the Money: Unlock Your Money Type to Achieve Spiritual and Financial Abundance.
  1. I first read of archetypes in the book "Money Magic: Unleashing Your True Potential for Prosperity and Fulfillment" by Deborah L. Price (originally published in 2000 as "Money Therapy: Using the Eight Money Types to Create Wealth and Prosperity"). The archetypes in Kessel's book are a bit less distinct in their habits and attitudes about money and how it impacts one's life than those described in Price's book. And the "how to" exercises don't seem to be as well defined in helping one to understand how their Core Story (which Price calls the "Money Biography") has developed through subconscious patterning. But the application of using the knowledge of one's "Money Type" (a term first used by Price in her books) in developing a financial planning and investing strategy is unique and quite helpful. Concerning the exercise determining one's "money type", I find it not as well structured as that of Price's, which is on her website at [...] As J. Butterworth said, "This is a very creative adaptation of Price's book with great practical information." I too would have given a higher score had the archetype concept not already been published and applied through Price's work.

  2. This is one of the most inspiring books I've read on the subject of money in a long time. What I like about it is that it is written in an easy to read manner that makes the concepts very accessible. Whether you are attracted or put off by the link to yoga and eastern thought, don't let that get in the way - this is a book about money, and the author draws upon all traditions to illustrate his points.

Read this book with an open mind - if necessary, read it downstairs, in the basement, in a closet with the door closed and the light on, at night after everyone else is asleep, if that'll make you feel secure and certain that no-one can see your reactions. Then be brutally honest with yourself as you work through the archetypes, recognize your behavior patterns, and identify your core story. The experience will be transformative. Then try to follow the suggestions - that'll be harder, but the results will be worth it. Even if it takes you just a few steps in the right direction, it'll be time well spent.

You may want to revisit the concepts after an initial reading, but that will be efficient because the book is easy to follow. The book is well organized with chapters & sections for various archetypes, so that in the future the reader can just refer to the pertinent sections.

The primary complaint some readers may have about the book is that actual investment advice is presented in summary form. However I would suggest otherwise - there is plenty of reading material out there with details of the practical steps. This book has many references that can guide you in the right direction. What is key in this book (and its important to recognize this) is that it links it to you, specifically, by working through how you are likely to react under various circumstances. From my personal experience, I can say that once you get there, the rest is downhill.

May you find the harmony you are searching for.

It's Not About the Money: Unlock Your Money Type to Achieve Spiritual and Financial Abundance

  3. At a time when I have been trying to convince my wife and two teenage children that we should spend less, summer 2008, I became captivated by the title, "it's not about the money." Ironically, I spent money impulsively, and bought the book. I confess. I only read half of it, and skimmed the rest. Perhaps, in skimming, I somehow overlooked exciting and new information. But I doubt it.

Essentially, "it's not about the money" tries to help you understand your relationship to money by identifying "The Eight Financial Archetypes." However, the simplicity of that assertion and the repetitious description of these "archetypes" suggest this book could have been condensed to a magazine article. Here are the magical eight: The Guardian, The Pleasure Seeker, The Idealist, The Saver, The Star, The Innocent, The Caretaker, and The Empire Builder. And here is an example of the "in depth" descriptive prose. "Idealists are, as the name implies, highly idealistic." The author does attempt to dig a little deeper, but the numerous, equally pointless sentences made me stop.

To be fair, this book might be appealing to perhaps a college freshman with a sudden profound interest in psychology and finance and absolutely no prior experience. The three stars result from this sense of fairness, and my reluctance to give bad reviews. I much prefer positive ones.

As always, if you don't agree, you can feed my writing to the fish.

  4. This was an interesting book, if you just wanted to see how you fit into the categories he mentions, but there were some glaring inconsistencies. For example, he lists Your Money or Your Life in his recommended reading list, but no books such as The Tightwad Gazette or any others that have any kinds of money-saving hints that you can do right now to help you get to financial abundance.

From reading his book I also got the distinct impression that it never occurs to him that there are people who think it is a game to be frugal and get enjoyment out of frugality for its own sake. Others prefer to donate their time to charity rather than money, and he seems much more oriented towards donating money.

Finally, this is not really a book about do-it-yourself investing, because the reader is constantly told to go to a fee-only financial planner.

    Borrow from the library.

  5. Always a sucker for the free psychoanalysis offered by the typical fashion magazines "Take this Test!" page, I was prepared to fill out a few questionnaires and then chuckle over the results. Other personal finance books dealing with emotions and money have disappointed me with their fluffy injunctions to deep breath, relax and release those traumatic money memories. The problem is that I don't have deepseated money issues from my financially stable childhood, so I have always questioned how much of my approach to money is due to my past, and how much due to current circumstance.

To my happy surprise. Kessel's work turned out to be an interesting read. He still invokes some of the language of pop psychology, but it is presented in a more moderate concrete fashion than is usual. He begins from a religious/philosophical base and I was especially struck by his discussion of the Wanting Mind, and the assertion that we do not necessarily want the object of our desire, as much as we want the absence of desire, or a rest from desiring.

The middle portion of the book, (before you get to the tests, by the way,)describes the various money types. Derived from observations working as a financial advisor, the types rang true, and the author emphasizes that each is a coping mechanism, not a deliberate attempt by your spouse to infuriate you. I encourage you, if you are part of a couple, to at least skim these chapters. You might understand yourself a little better, and you will definitely have more sympathy for your spouse, who is probably your opposite type. Mine certainly was.

Kessel includes some nuts and bolts advice in the final portion to counter the philosophical and psychological approach of the earlier chapters. Previously, the personal finance subgenre of money and emotions has often been a bit superficial or condescending. Kessel, using a moderate tone and matter of fact writing style, forges his own path making this a very readable book and a welcome departure from the past.

5 comments about My Descent Into Death: A Second Chance at Life.
  1. This is a most interesting book in which the author describes his experience of entering Hell, and then being transported to Heaven. Not sure I believe it all, but his experiences are certainly in line with other books I have read on heaven and hell. His experience is believable to a point, and it does seem to have changed his life, but does seem to get carried away with his projections of the future (life in this world will get better and better, happily ever after and all that) and his many visits from angels. Can't say that it is definitely NOT true though, so I think it is worth reading and you decide. And it certainly makes you think more about eternity and where you may be spending it.

  2. This is a must read book. I have shared with several friends and all have had a postive feedback from reading this book!

  3. First, I would like to say that I am so tired of the christians & the catholics with their bible opinions about this book. New age is not really new age it's old just as Gnostic Christianity/Jewish Mysticism are ancient religions. Nobody disrespects your religion don't disrespect others for their beliefs. BTW who wrote the bible? How does anyone know that is truly the word of god & not lies? Everyone knows that the bible has had texts taken out, manipulated texts, & things added in by the catholic church. So do not assume that you know the truth because really no one does & all religions will bring you to god. As for this book I loved it & I thought it was absolutely beautifully written. Truly inspiring!!!

  4. I loved this book. I think every human being should read this. Really let's you see what's important in life and what's not. This is a wonderful glimpse of the other side. It's easy to read and such an encouragement.

  5. Ok, I've read something like 10 NDE books as well as countless stories of them from the IANDS site, but this book is by far the best. If you're looking for something that is realistic, and doesn't lie to you about virtually everybody going to Heaven (now there's an inconvenient truth, eh?), then this is the book for you. Keep in mind that even Dannion Brinkley himself admits that he was wrong about telling everyone that there is nothing other than love and light in the afterlife. In his recent book (Secrets of the Light) he acknowledges that his experiences are not, and are not going to be, everyone's. I commend Dannion for coming to that realization and helping others to see it too. And it was this book that helped me do a 360 when I was in the midst of persecuting everything except new age fluff (*shakes head* all that time wasted, as a self-righteous fool indeed). All I search for is the truth, and I believe that can best be found in this book as well as some of Emanuel Swedenborg's writings. I know that in recent times Christianity has gotten a horrible rep, and the Inquisition is inexcusable we can all agree (see how no one is denying that, let's face it they were demons in sheep's clothing were they not?), however, you might possibly feel caught up in the lie that everything is fine and dandy in the new-age fluff world, which of course you know isn't true (visit your local ER on a Friday night or penitentiary on any day, as a reference for why that's a conclusion to be made) so I highly recommend this book for you. For all we really know, all those people "lying to you about hellfire" might have really cared about you and been trying to warn you about hell's salivating mouth that's waiting to give you your real welcome. And if you don't think that hell should exist then I must introduce you to some of my neighbors at once. In this book Jesus says that religion isn't the important thing it's people's hearts that matter, nice message and I very much agree with it, but let's face it it was Jesus Himself that saved this man and not just some multidimensional martian entity with a soft-spot for humankind. Recommended but not for the faint of heart, as I believe Mr. Storm really did experience the bowels of hell. My Descent Into Death, the book that changed me for the better and might change you too.

  1. I have not read many of M. Scott Peck's books although they have all been highly reccomended. I got this one and it was a PERFECT PLACE TO JUMP IN FOR NEW READERS. He briefly summarizes the highlights of his works and then goes further to bring in his more recent insights. A great book.

  2. Practical, level headed advice. Great psychological insights!

This book would make a great gift for friends or relatives who may be searching for some understanding and meaning in their lives.

    I recommend this book!

  3. Again M. Scott Peck has created a tool for discovering meaning in the complexity of life. There are answers to be found in the reading of this masterpiece.

  4. It's true, this book is not an "easy" read. I have been stuck at some points in the book because what he said rang so true to my life. I've had to take his ideas seriously into account and review my thinking style. Which has been quite erroneous, not due to me, but to a bad upbringing. Also, being a human soul, I need to progress. So what do I do? I need to change the way I think to a more realistic way. "Know the truth and the truth will set you free". Thinking with God is now my #1 ambition.

I like the real life case studies he presents from his practice as a shrink. I can relate to many of these people. They are like me in many ways ( neurotic). It has given me a new perspective on my past. In my opinion, that's all that therapy can do for you, e.g., give you new framework to view your life from. I've had a little therapy, but so far, the best way I've discovered is to learn a new way of thinking about everything. That's a lot of work and many will not go there.

I like the quotes he makes from the wisdom of great thinkers. He stresses that life is complex, no way around it. No easy way of thinking either. It's not black vs white. The gray area is the reality.

He delves into the world of psycho-therapy. It's hard work to face therapy and " the truth" . Often, people live like ostriches with their heads buried up to their necks in sand to escape the truths they ought to face up to.

His view of the purpose of life as a training ground for learning is very interesting. I'm also reading Rick Warren's "The Purpose Driven Life" and this ties into his thinking perfectly. We are a creation of God, we live here in His power for His purposes during our time here. The creation can't out think the creator, that's for certain. Maybe all this was covered in his earlier books, I don't know because I didn't read them.

This book has been my therapist for a few weeks. It's a good thing.

  5. Excellent book in a series or spiritually invigorating books. Particulary good in today's age of fear and rampant consumerism.

5 comments about David: 90 Days With a Heart Like His (Personal Reflections Series).
  1. Very well written and thought provoking book with plenty of room for contemplative notes ans exercises to help one evaluate and study David. My only problem, and hence the 3 not 5 stars, is she relates and compares, way too often, David to Jesus. It is a book about David according to its title and yet she falls in the same trap as most Christian authors. Everything in the bible is NOT about Jesus nor is there any need to try and force every verse, person, etc. to fit to some explanation or elaboration of him. It is about GOD and his message via his prophets. I would love to see some of the great Christian authors, Mrs. Moore included, give the Bible its just treatment especially when dealing with the Hebrew Scriptures portion (aka OT).

  2. There is a high value to do this devotional. Writing out your prayers helps you to remember to pray them more thru the day. Also you can go back and write when they are answered and how.

Beth Moore's insights never stop amazing me. The length is just right for a daily devotional. The book is so high quality you feel as if you have an old world treasure in your hands.

  3. Beth Moore is an awesome teacher of the Father's word to us. My wife and I love her books and study materials! We use them for life group study, topics, and couples reading to build one's personal responsible to the call of Christ and who we are in Him.

  4. I have just recently started this book. And I just love it. It is a wonderful work book that I will treasure forever. I love exploring the world of King David and the struggles he goes through. In comparison his struggles are not unlike our own. It is nice to see that the Old Testament is relevant in today's world. Every day I look forward to reading the Bible and working in this book. I recommend this work book to anyone who is looking to dig deeper into their faith and get closer to God.

  5. Each day there are about 2-3 pages of commentary and instruction from Beth Moore followed by 2 or 3 questions to consider and a space with a suggested prayer starter.

I purchased this book as part of an infomal bible study gathering with a few other ladies. We aimed to complete 6 days each week and compaired our impressions with each other once a week.

I highly recommend this book even if you don't have a group to share with. Just be sure to take the time to consider the questions and write out your answers and prayers.

5 comments about Essential Spirituality: The 7 Central Practices to Awaken Heart and Mind.
  1. If you are on a quest of spirituality, this book is a must for your libarary of references.

  2. I've been a fan of Roger Walsh for a long time and was extremely honored that he endorsed my latest book, Beyond the Secret. In many ways this book inspired my own. Though the sub-title says this book is about seven practices, there is much more here than that. the book is filled with practical advice and exercises on how to reduce craving to find your soul's desire (similar to the theme of my book to move from consumption to contribution), to cultivate emotional wisdom (which inspired the chapter in my book on tapping into your feelings), living ethically by feeing good by doing good (are you listening followers of the popular book The Secret that only emphasizes the feel good part), calming your mind, developing wisdom, and learning to embrace the joy of service (service being a spiritual "law" that I emphasize in my own book is far more important than any law of attraction technique). In short, I am indebted to Roger Walsh and especially this book for having done so much to open my own heart and inspire my life. And, you will do very well to have this book in your library as it will truly help you make a difference in your life. - Dr. Lisa Love, Beyond the Secret

  3. This is an interesting and somewhat unique book because the emphasis isn't theological or philosophical at all, but rather on spiritual practices one can apply in daily life.

As such, the author doesn't burden himself (or the reader) with trying to rigorously justify the recommended practices, nor does he attempt to build a theoretical framework. Instead, he simply presents the practices and suggests that readers give them a try. I agree with this approach, because it seems that sometimes, especially in spiritual matters, we have to first take action and experience the consequences of that action in order to develop our understanding, rather than the more typical (and skeptically cautious) western approach of first developing understanding on rational grounds, then acting on that understanding.

Although the book doesn't include rigorous argumentation, the author does link the practices to a variety of spiritual traditions, including many quotes from sages and spiritual texts. I presume this is mainly to show the universality of the practices, and also to increase the chance that each reader will find things they can resonate with. Here and there, the author also mentions cases in which modern psychology and neuroscience provide scientific evidence supporting the practices, but this is a minor component of the book.

The book is divided into short chapters, and I think that reading a chapter a day will work well for most readers. I've read the book once, and I think it's valuable enough that I'll periodically reread it in the future.

Overall, I highly recommend the book to anyone motivated to grow spiritually, and who is open-minded enough to not be troubled by seeing references to many different spiritual traditions. Also be sure to check out 50 Spiritual Classics: Timeless Wisdom from 50 Great Books on Inner Discovery, Enlightenment and Purpose, which I think nicely complements this book.

As a final note, please remember that the key is to implement the practices in your daily life, not just read about them and understand them intellectually.

  4. An incredible work of art. I've sent copies to a devote Catholic and Orthodox Jew that I know and both were equally impressed. If you have any interest in the Spirituality of the World's great religions, read this book.

  5. For those who have not considered spirituality before, this is a great book, it is very thorough without being confusing. For those who are natuarally introspective -- this is also a good book, one that will either stregthen or validate what you already know in your heart.

5 comments about The Unmistakable Touch of Grace: How to Recognize and Respond to the Spiritual Signposts in Your Life.
  1. Cheryl Richardson has put into words what many of us have experienced in our lives but didn't know how to explain or articulate. This is not just another "how to" book on creating the perfect life. It is a book that will help you become more mindful of what is already present in your life. You won't miss another "signpost" after reading this book and you'll become more aware of how grace has been a presence in your life from the beginning. Bravo, Cheryl! Pamela D. Blair, Author, The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond, co-author I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye (Updated Edition): Surviving, Coping and Healing After the Sudden Death of a Loved One

  2. It was truly a touch of grace for me to find myself watching Oprah (which I don't usually do)the day she had Cheryl Richardson, Martha Beck, and Louise Hay on her show. This book is wonderful, as is Martha's, and I have owned Louise Hay's book and given it to many friends over the past 25 or more years.

"...Touch of Grace" is a very personal, easy to follow book. Common sense is not usually a phrase one applies to a book that is probably categorized as "spiritual" or "metaphysical" but this book just makes a lot of sense, and if one is truly open to looking at how grace has touched their lives and willing to be aware, this book will be a great help along the way...to...peace and serenity, joy, etc., etc.

  3. Cheryl's book "The Unmistakable Touch of Grace" was an excellent book. I think she has a lot to offer and I like her writing style. Excellent ideas to use to accomplish one's own "touch of grace". An excellent book.

  4. Cheryl's book is an easy read. It's like your having a cup of coffee with her as you read the book. I followed her advice and journaled my feelings, thougths, and questions. Not only did this book help me move out of a deep depression, but it also showed me how to discoiver my passion for writing and the power behind the creative process. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for the first step to start them on their own journey of self - development. make sure you have a notebook and pen ready when you sit down to do the exercises. They are very simple, yet powerful.

  5. The topic of divine grace has been written about for centuries--must it be merited? Can it be revoked? How do you know when you've got it?--and this book happily, carelessly, skips by all of them.

The point of the book is this: "Coincidences" aren't. You can learn from them, too!

There. I've just saved you from reading 256 pages of stories of "miraculous" coincidences. Now then: Where's my book deal?

There is a saying that goes, "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous." I like that saying. This book almost says that but the author admits many times she is uncomfortable with the word "God" but totally cool with using "grace" in the theological, divine sense (and as covered more than cogently by Aquinas et. al.).

The author, Cheryl Richardson, declares herself a life coach. She is not the first to do so, but never clearly explains what this is and how it ties into grace (unless being a life coach means appearing on Oprah and writing New Age-lite books).
