5 comments about Spiritual Divorce: Divorce as a Catalyst for an Extraordinary Life.
- This is a book that adopts elements of spiritual transformation that are proven successful. It misses the mark completely by implying that divorce "happens" rather than being the result of the shortcomings of one, or both, partners, and forgoes an investigation of what these shortcomings could be, and how to heal them. Yet, it is right in expressing the force that a traumatic event like divorce can have on an individual, normally the one being "dumped", to promote personal transformation. If the divorce is the result of a consensual split, the couple will likely learn little. Likewise, the "dumper's" learning from the experience tends to be precious little too, so much so that statistically the same errors are then replayed in other relationships.
Outside of chemical abuse, physical abuse, severe mental illness, marriages are as a rule repairable, through the commitment to be compassionate, understanding, forgiving and appreciative of the other. It is the childish self-centeredness of many of us that destroys marriages, the unwillingness to be loyal and forgiving, and the lack of desire to give to the partner what one desires to receive. We are all keen to demand what we want, but stingy in behaving the way we would want our partner to behave with us.
This book is in many ways naive. A useless exercise that skips the meat of relationships, including the need to identify what led us to select the partner we married, and how this points to what needs to be healed in ourselves.
I do NOT recommend this book. Focus instead on "Real Love in Marriage" by Dr. Baer, and "Is it love, or is it addiction" by Brenda Schaeffer, to understand the how and why relationships break down, and, most importantly the lessons to be learned. Being in sintony with one's values, that is DOING (acting) in such a way that life follows the course of you deepest values is a most difficult exercise, that however, will bring true freedom. Most cases of divorce hinge on one , or both, partners succumbing to the shadow (in a Jung-ian sense), and being at its mercy, rather than refocusing and acting in harmony with what your deepest beliefs are, as well as exposing and understanding our dark side.
- wow! the information and suggestions in this book really have helped me to mature and reach beyond myself. ford writes in an excellent style that inspires you to greater things. i was very impressed with this work. for many guys, her approach and vocabulary might be seen as a pie-in-the-sky approach. while probably true, if you can look beyond that to the message that she offers, it is well worth it. this book is very affordably priced and is worth the purchase, new or used.
- This book is amazing. It allows you to heal and work through a lot of the issues you have surrounding your divorce. Even if you aren't getting divorced I would recommend this book because it's inspirational and exceptional. I'm now on my third Debbie Ford book and I love her style and ease of writing. She's fun to read and always get's me going ready for a new day!
- Personally, I did not find this book helpful or uplifitng - the content is too "fluffy" during a time when difficult decisons are being made. Might be a better read down the line after the divorce is final and you are moving on. Maybe it's the book for you if you are a big Debbie Ford fan. Books can be trial and error - this was an error for me.
- I love to read, and I read very well, but this book is difficult to follow. It is wordy, contains one analogy after another and quotes from various people, all of which confuse the point the author was trying to make. I started reading it thoroughly, then began skimming, then reading the first sentence or two of paragraphs that weren't describing the author's divorce, then I finally quit, and threw it away. I hate to throw away a book, but this one is blather.

5 comments about The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life.
- one of the best books i have ever read..was able to read it in one sitting could not put it down..the prayers are so helpful
- If you have ever been exposed to a negative image of God, then you must read this book. This book will change your perception and you'll find a kind, loving God who wants everything good to come to you. The practice of asking God for what you want is encouraged in a prayer that will change your life. The belief that God wants everything positive for your life transcends off the pages into your heart. Bruce examines the belief that giving to others will make your life abundant and fulfilled. Have faith, ask God and believe. After reading this book, you know God has answers and miracles just for you.
- I could not find ANYTHING in this little misleading book that was in line with either the specific words,
OR the spirit of the entire New Testament. Most of the emphasized portions of this book directly
contradict the Bible. Much of the teaching contained in this book is false, misleading, and attempts to refute
the very words of Jesus.
Jesus taught us to be satisfied not only with our daily bread, but even with asking
for our daily bread, on a daily basis. I think it is truly a shame that Christians in the richest country in the
world would be so distracted by a simplistic ploy to seek riches rather than the kingdom of God!
This is especially true while so many Christians are starving around the world. How will Christians explain
their Jabezic pursuit of riches by endlessly and repeatedly praying for more and more while Christians are
at this moment being herded into huts and being burned alive?
Are we to believe that all the starving people in the world are starving because of their own personal sin?
The claim that "the only that can break the cycle of abundant living is sin" is absolutely false and directly
contradicts the entire book of Job.
The claim that "the only thing that can break the cycle of abundant living is sin" is absolutely false and directly contradicts the entire book of Job (not to mention several books in the N.T.).
Job was not just more righteous than his brothers like Jabez, Job was the most blameless, righteous and upright man on the entire planet, yet his "abundant living" was severely "broken"! This is an example of end-time preaching where selfish people gather to themselves someone willing to tell them what their itching ears want to hear.
CLEARLY the "Prayer of Jabez" book and the Bible are at opposite ends of the spectrum regarding this teaching!
Tape this divisive little book closed (to protect innocent eyes), and use it for a coaster, or to balance your
dining room table. To do otherwise will lead you astray!
Jesus describes the reality of being hungry, thirsty, naked, and a stranger but He told us to feed, clothe, and welcome others. He made no mention of sin, or praying to "expand our borders", or to pray for a "larger cup"!
If your cup runneth over, do NOT pray for a larger cup, share what is in your cup with others!
Matthew 25:32-46
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
?Then the King will say to those on his right, ?Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.? " Then he will say to those on his left, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me."
They also will answer, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?? ?He will reply, ?I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.? ?Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Franz Sigel Shroy
- If you believe, it serves its purpose. If you are trying to believe, read the book. If you absolutely don't believe, then I would save your money for now...
It liked it.
- This book is great no matter what condition it is in. Next to the Bible and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, it is one of the best books I've ever read and I buy it for people who are looking for dramatic changes in their life. This is one of the books that will do just that. I recommend the Bible study that is a companion to this book.
Just be careful who you buy it from if you're looking for a "new" one

5 comments about Soulcraft: Crossing into the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche.
- The inhabitants of our alienated modern society--and those suffering globally from its negative influences--are desperate for meaning. Self-Help books abound beyond belief. People of all ages, especially in the workplace and corporate world, live lives of such "quiet desperation," as Thoreau wrote, that they can barely discern even the surface they're skating on, much less the depths that lay beneath. Young people worldwide fall into depression, crime, or the false promise of fundamentalism and fanaticism, sacrificing themselves for--what? Surely not our shared humanity.
Bill Plotkin's SOULCRAFT is, I believe, at last, the "definitive" self-help guide, one so profound that it has the capacity, for those open to it, to help reshape our entire vision of the world--and restore to ourselves a fulfilling home within it.
I write this as a cultural anthropologist, author and lecturer who has himself sorted his way through any number of methods to a more balanced, centered life. Plotkin draws from traditional and Jungian psychology, the deep wisdom of the natural world (one of the richest sources of meaning which we have almost succeeded in destroying), and from a wealth of knowledge about traditional cultural practices the world over that provide ancient keys to holistic living. Plotkin draws out the essence of all this and spins it into a welcoming web, each strand another guiding rope hung with tools to empower one on a perilous and promising journey to center.
Make no mistake--this book is not psycho-babble and or self-help pablum. It is not an instant solution; it is a challenging way to open yourself up to an ever-widening world through which, with courage and commitment, you will continue to journey the rest of your life.
There may be some who think the notion of "soul-crafting" is uncomfortably "New Age" (I feared so at first). If so then this is a work that synthesizes everything good and wise that emerged from the wild and ecstatic upheavals of the late `60s, filtered over decades through Plotkin's formal social-psychological training, shaped by his rigorous, wide-ranging scholarship, and brought finally to fruition through the power of his personal experience and heartfelt vision.
And now his newest book has appeared: "Nature and the Human Soul: Cultivating Wholeness and Community in a Fragmented World." I just ordered mine from Amazon and got it immediately. After what Plotkin has just given me in the earlier book, I can only imagine what this book, described as a culminating life's work, can offer me. I can't wait to read it. --Jud Newborn, Ph.D., author, "Sophie Scholl and the White Rose."
- I read this book as part of a course in personality. This book gives you the definitions and differences between spirit and soul, and how a journey to know the soul can be a road less travelled. It is an amazing insight into the state of coming to know one's soul and the difficult road that must be taken to get there. The author also gives many examples of his participants vision quests and how they can relate to psychological issues in one's life. This book should be read by all humans. We have all lost our connection with nature and through this book we might be able to regain that relationship
- Last year I met, quite out of the blue, a gifted shamanic practitioner in my own locale who has taken me under her wing (and has not requested a single penny from me for doing so). This was a catalyst event which has prompted my own "second cocooning," a concept explained in "Soulcraft" that I now understand. So much about this book has provided me vital context for understanding my current stage of life and showed me the next couple of steps that I need to take from here.
Some might be tempted to dismiss Soulcraft as "fluffy New Age tripe," but I hope you won't make that mistake. Plotkin doesn't blow sweetness and light up anyone's butt. The journey to soul is not an easy one, and no one--no teacher, no seer, no guru--can make the journey for you. This book encourages you to do the *necessary and difficult* work of finding your own soul, your own vision, your own task--it's important not only for you, but for the way we all live on this earth. Not only that, this book gives you some real-world strategies and activities for how to actually do that.
I am reminded of Jesus saying in the gospels, "what does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul?" This book provides some context for understanding what's happening as you lose the world in order to gain your soul. While we ultimately make this inward and downward journey alone, on another level we're not really alone--others have gone before us (and some examples are given in the book), and the presence of Spirit is in all and around all.
My thanks are given gratefully to Bill Plotkin for birthing this book into the world.
One thing, though: I appreciated Plotkin's brief statement in the book that we should not be appropriating culturally from native peoples--but then he quoted Harley Swift Deer in the book, someone who is reputedly/reportedly a "plastic shaman." That was a disappointment, but overall the book is still worth five stars.
- This is one of those rare books that's very wise and deep, yet also highly accessible. No daunting technical language, just practical advice spiced with true stories about real people's experiences. Reading this wonderful book was a transformational experience for me. I highly recommend it for anyone who's looking for a path to a more authentic life, especially if you are drawn to the world of nature.
- I carry this book with me as often as I can (when I'm not hauling around books for class) and reference it often. Working toward a degree in Ecopsychology, I am certain that this book will be the main reference book for the work I will be doing with clients. Bill Plotkin clarifies the importance of rites of passage journeys, journeying into the shadow or dark side to fully realize your personal calling and the light that lives within you. This is an amazing book, very well written and is already a beloved classic for me.

5 comments about Path, The: Creating Your Mission Statement for Work and for Life.
- I am only part-way through the book, but I give it a high rating because it's quality so far. It offers both theory and practicality, and a "how to", along with plenty of examples; everything good teaching should do.
Now, I noticed that people that gave this book fewer stars did so because they approached the title of the book assuming it was to create a mission statement for their BUSINESS or CORPORATION. But, I interpret "create a mission statement for work and life" as creating your INDIVIDUAL mission statement for your INDIVIDUAL work...not necessarily your company as a whole. I'm imagining that'd be a whole 'nother book perhaps with a more global-systems take in regards to companies. I do believe Laurie Beth Jones has several workshops a year and private consulting to help with that, though, if you check out her personal website. Anyhow, for individuals, this seems to have a lot of value to me. But, the exercises in this book do not lend themselves, nor do they seem to be created for "companies". Just a clarification. Great book so far.
- This is a great book for gaining clarity about your life mission. The author understands why having a consistent context is a powerful element to bring to all that you do. I enjoy her succinct exercises and have used them with clients in the past.
- This book is a wonderful tool for those hoping to have a life vision. If you don't have a vision for your life--read this book!
- Recently, I purchased my 4th copy of The Path: Creating Your Mission Statement for Work and for Life to give away and constantly recommend it to friends. Through a process of choosing verbs, Laurie Beth Jones simplifies the process of clarifying and fine tuning a mission statement that applies not only work but one's entire life. A small group can use the same method to find an shared mission statement for their work together. Jones concludes with a study of the life of Nehemiah and relates it to the concept of being guided by a mission throughout one's lifetime.
- As a business and relationship coach, I used to be discouraged at how few people have created and are living their mission. However, after closer study of corporate mission statements and how many of them are little more than convoluted ramblings totally inappropriate for their application, it became clear to me that people don't develop their personal mission statements simply because they lack understanding of just how powerful knowing your mission can be.
Working mostly with small businesses, many of them do not even have mission statements. Of those that do, it never surprises me that none of their employees can recite them. Is it any wonder that these same employees lack having developed their own personal or marital missions?
One of the things I hear most often in marriage coaching is how much of a difference in the marriage since the creation and implementation of their own marriage mission. Many couples have told me through the years that having them create their mission statement was the most valuable part of the pre-marriage coaching and has served to keep their marriage focused.
THE PATH by Laurie Beth Jones is such an enjoyable read. It is geared more toward creating ones personal mission, but can easily be adopted for corporate use as well. Laurie Beth uses the One with the ultimate mission statement, Jesus Christ, in various examples, as well as other familiar references from God's Word. Reading this book has been a great pleasure.

- Simply said, this book is amazing. It is straight from the mouth of God. I have purchsed this book for many friends in need of spiritual inspiration. I am about to buy another copy for myself since I have almost worn out the original. If the current day's reading does not resonate, ask God to show you something else, flip the pages and you will read what your soul needs. This is my favorite book of all time!!!!
- "Until Today" helped me get through the day at one of the toughest times of my life. I would read the daily devotions everyday, and it would motivate and heal the pain away. It drew me closer to the Lord and helped my prayer life as well. I am so greatful to you Iyanla Vanzant, for all that you do for people. You are a life changer. 5 comments about The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham.
- The name of the book says it all. This is an amazing book...sets out clearly what to do and what not to do to give you the life you want. It is simple to understand and an easy read. It has certainly changed the way I think and feel..as soon as I start to feel 'down' I immediately change my thought pattern. It makes you realise why things have happened in your life and why they have not. It is certainly worth buying and having in your bookshelf so you can refer back to it.
I give it *****
- This was a fantastic and eye opening experience. I was looking for something to make me understand myself and the world around me. This truly works if you apply Abraham teachings. This is a must for everyone, especially for someone that is looking for answers.
- This book really works for me. I understand my life and myself better, and truly believe that I am in the process of turning my life around, and that I will turn my life around. I am already getting pleasant results from applying the principles given.
- This book is a wonderful read,
I believe in magic again, I believe in my fellow human beings again too.
If we could all practice what is in this book we would be so much happier.
- This is without a shadow of a doubt the most amazing knowledge available today in this planet. All the science, all the wise, all that is only human does not compare to the nature of our inner being.
I cannot express in words the deep joy I feel when I hear Esther's voice as the non-physical entity known as Abraham (not the one from the Bible though just in case you are wondering). I just know is good because I can feel it, they cannot fool me otherwise. I'm also deeply religious where conversations with God were just the daily norm for our Restoration Prophet. How can I then reject this knowledge? This book is just the beginning, I have been reading these materials for a little over two years and cannot stop reading, I can care less how much it costs, I'll but it no matter what.
If you care about your life experience in this planet, you owe it to yourself to read this material and put it to work for you.
I have never felt so free, so happy and so confident everytime I find an obstacle.... I can't say thank you Jerry, Esther and Abraham enough times, it just gets better and better when I get into that mode.
Love you all,
Efren

5 comments about There Is Nothing Wrong with You: Going Beyond Self-Hate.
- Cheri Huber has put into a clear, understandable book everything I've been trying to teach my psychotherapy clients. It's one of the books I've been recommending on a regular basis ever since I read it. It includes terrific information and motivational, workable suggestions for letting go of your destructive, self-limiting inner dialogue. Pamela D. Blair, Author The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond
- Cheri Huber has a small masterpiece in this gem of a book. Unlike many self-help books I've read, Ms. Huber doesn't use it to grandstand, nor does she get bogged down in minutiae. The message is simple, clear, yet incredibly powerful.
- This book along with BEING ZEN by Ezra Bayda, FREE YOUR MIND by Anthony Stultz and BIG MIND by Dennis Merzel-represent the best of new teachers of
mindfulness in daily life. They offer us fresh and innovative perspectives on old teachings. You cannot go wrong-they will help you to change your life!
- This is another of Cheri Huber's practical books on how to live with Yourself. Free of religious and Diagnostic clutter, it offers a viewpoint which can alleviate the guilt so often encountered in one's search for happiness.
The premise that "nothing needs to be fixed" is almost completely missing in contemporary Psychology because of Medicine and Psychiatry's dogma of "Diagnosis First, Treatment afterwards".
There are many copies of Huber's books in my office lending-library, and my patients have usually found her style and viewpoint refreshing and useful.

- I have struggled with a strong Inner Critic for a very long time when I found this book. It is simple and straight forward and has been immensely helpful in breaking the pattern with my Critic. I have read it numerous times and keep returning to it for reminders and support. I highly recommend it to anyone who struggles with low self-esteem. It is not you. There is nothing wrong with you. This book will help you come to realize that Truth. Cheri's explanations are clear, understandable and based on deep knowing. I am grateful for her teachings. I have read Cheri's Fear Book and listened to her CD course Unconditional Self-Acceptance. All were helpful in breaking patterns of conditioning that keep me in bondage. Highly beneficial work!

5 comments about The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution.
- Here's a fantastic book that really gets to the point about plantar fasciitis. It contains a wealth of information that I'd expect to spend a lot more money than its price to get. There's a detailed but non-intimidating or boring description of the condition, how to treat it effectively and how to prevent its return. The material is based on scientific evidence and the book even includes a chapter-by-chapter comprehensive list of supporting references. I found such detailed authentication very impressive.
The author targets the facts and presents them in a way that is easy to understand. Illustrations, organized charts, boxed paragraphs and chapter summaries appear throughout this book. They helped me to visualize, comprehend, and remember the essentials for the self-help process.
I particularly liked the question and answer format used to lay out the facts. It set a friendly, congenial tone to my reading experience which helped me with the learning process. This style and the easy-to-understand explanations gave me a comfort level with terminology that otherwise might have been intimidating or boring. And I felt like I stayed on track as I read because the author seemed to anticipate what my next question or concern would be. Invariably they appeared along with answers and solutions within the next page or so. The book has a very well-organized, logical flow of thought and information from one chapter section to the next and on to the following chapter. In my opinion, besides containing comprehensive information about plantar fasciitis, there is no question that the book's author has the instructional skills to effectively present it to people in a crystal-clear style that allows them to understand it and feel better as a result.
I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing or concerned about plantar fasciitis. It is truly a bargain for the high quality book and comprehensive information you get for its cost.
- I have spent a lot of money on my foot with this problem. After reading this book and doing the recommended treatment. I am healing. I have had Plantar Fascitis for over two years. This is the only thing that has worked for me.
- This pamphlet/workbook seemed a bit overpriced for such a small book, but it's worth every penny. The therapy described in the book is effective and easy to accomplish. I have some trouble with the stretches described first thing in the morning owing to general stiffness overall, but have discovered that I can use a proStretch device (also available at amazon.com with supersaver shipping) to accomplish the morning stretches. It almost seems unlikely that the exercises in this book can be so effective as they are. Yet only two weeks ago I was worried about how I would be able to manage this fall's teaching work up on my feet. Now, I don't have any significant plantars fasciitis pain at all. In addition to these really effective simple foot stretches, the book evaluates other therapies for treating PF by researching medical studies. The author concludes that additional helpful measures include calf stretching and some arch support in shoes (I chose Tuli diamondbacks - very effective and small, also with free supersaver shipping). If you are really suffering from PF, I think this is worth your time to try it.
- I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars only because of the cost. I had tried many suggestions found online, from my Dr. & even from a PT to help my Plantar Fasciitis. This book has one simple exercise that takes a total of 5 mins. a day and it REALLY WORKS. At first I was skeptical because it is similar to a stretch given to me by a PT but the secret seems to be in the timing of when you do it. I won't say anymore so as not to give away the author's secret! As other readers have stated, the book also offers information on the topic in a quick & easy to read format. Although I hated paying so much for a short & simple book that I won't use again, the relief of pain is worth far more than the price of the book!
- Best solution I've tried yet. Still in the recoup stage, but for the money, a good buy.

5 comments about Discover the Power Within You: A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within.
- Intelligent, practical, makes Christianity make sense again.
A MUST have for anyone interested in understanding our true relationship with God.
- This book is awesome it just goes a bit more in depth than the other book I read called the Error of Job. Both had the same principle in mind.
- If you are looking to escape organized religions' continuous pajorative thinking and limits towards humanity, Eric Butterworth sums up the writting of Jesus the Christ into what was truly meant! We have all the abilities of Jesus...We simply have to remember the true meaning of Jesus' words. Eric Butterworth sorts through all the religious bias and man dominated thinking of our history, and explains in plain English the exact message Jesus was attempting to clear up about the Christ within us all!
- The book is spiritual yes, however religious NO. There is not one religion or doctrine centered in this writing. In fact, it is about your becoming and remaining connected with GOD. How we work with the power within not without (ie religions) is what makes the difference. The author centers on the life of the Christ not from a religious stand point but as a demonstration of what man is capable of. GOD didn't create Christianity, Buddhism, Judiasm, Islam, Taoism, or any other religion...man did.
I encourage persons reading these critiques to look at what others have written. Our lives are what we make it. Connecting with GOD as our source changes us from being a victim to an individual that has found and helps to create "Peace on Earth".
- How Many Times Have We Desperately Searched Outside of Ourselves...Only To Realize That We Need To Slow Down, Be Still, & Become Truly Conscious!
A Great Read!
