5 comments about Becoming Orgasmic: A Sexual and Personal Growth Program for Women.
- I got this book hoping it would have some new insight and excersises to help me reach orgasm more frequently with my lover. However, I soon discovered everything in the book had already been thought of. You see, this book is aimed at women who have NEVER ever had an orgasm before in their lives, at women who are afraid to look at or touch themselves, at extremely religious couples who need to be TOLD to loosen up, and so forth. It just wasn't for me, and it isn't for most of you who are seeking more fulfillment in your sex lives. Secondly, the illustrations are drawn by a man, and they look more like bimbo models. I'm sure he enjoyed being paid to draw masturbating women. The pictures are not helpful, they're offensive.
- What I appreciated most about this book was that it was NOT pornography in disguise. Most sexual 'how to' and self help books can be quite degrading, graphic, or base. This is a text book. These two doctors know their stuff and went to great lenghts to write medically accurate and proffionally. (Still, I got a giggle that the doctor's last name is Heiman.)
I like the fact that this book doesn't have a right way, only way, or quick fix formula. It helps one explore all possiblities for sexual dysfunction and helps the woman better unstand her dysfunction. The tone of this book is very encourageing- just what women need to hear, that your problem does not isolate you or make you different. My doctor reccomended this book to me. I reccomend it to you.
- What I liked best about this book, was it was not pornography in disguise. So many sex "self-help" books boarder on the inapproptiate. But not this one. The language was respectful and diagrams tasteful.
"Becoming Orgasmic" is very professionally written by doctors, with a lot of clinical research, both their own and by others. What I appriciated was that the doctors did not present a quick-fix, one size fits all solution. This book is meant to help a woman heal herself. THe book stayed respectful and lets the woman that she is not alone and that her dyfunction does not make her weird or strange. This workbook was recommended to me by a doctor and I recommend it to you.
- For all those women out there who think there's something wrong with them... chances are there's NOT!!!
This book is thoroughly helpful. I was almost at the point of giving up hope altogether... then I purchased this book on a whim, after reading a recommendation of it by an on-line sex therapist. Let me say I have NO regrets!! It was one of the best buys of my life. The style is easy to understand and the tone is compassionate; but it is not patronizing, like some other self-help books can be. On the contrary, I found it to be quite educational. I have learnt a great deal about relationships and dealing with my emotional baggage, in addition to all the detailed stuff about my physiology and how to press the right buttons. On the whole, this book has boosted my confidence in the bedroom ten-fold. To anyone who has problems achieving the big 'O', I couldn't recommend it more. Ten thumbs up!
- This book helped me immensely. I bought the book about 7 years ago. Before I read and followed this book, I thought I would be "faking it" my whole life. I doubt I would have figured out how to acheive "it" if I hadn't read this. I highly recommend it to any woman who just doesn't get it when it comes to orgasm and you feel like you're the only one! This book can truly help you.

5 comments about Better Than Steroids.
- The bad reviews given were by people who already knew much of the information in this book. While there is nothing groundbreaking in this book, it is very well written, easy to follow, and a great book for the novice or intermediate bodybuilder. This book has information on nutrition, training, and supplements. If you are not an advanced bodybuilder or have not read much on this sport, you WILL benefit from this book!
- This book works well for me, it is a straightforward book and Dr. Willey was great in replying when I emailed him with questions. Very satisfied.
- For the beginner this book is indispensible as it introduces you to the basics of bodybuilding from a dieting and measuring standpoint. I found that even myself learned a few things that if asked previously would or should have seemed like common knowledge. If youve been in the game for a long time now you prob wont get much from it as scientifically it is very basic and simple. Overall i think worthy of a place in your library.
- I am using the title as a "hook", because I thought it was a really novel idea to include this in a book, and I enjoyed the author's ideas. The text doesn't flow extremely smoothly, but the chapters are short and most readers aren't expecting a literary masterpiece.
Interesting ideas, concise, specific, and to the point. Down to earth yet far-reaching in scope.
One of several recommended books to build your body without steroids.
- While this book has some good information regarding general body building ideas it is the best book ever written on how food is a drug and if used correctly can be extremely effective in building muscle. This is no fad diet, it is the real deal. Jay Cutler (Mr. Olympia) wrote his testimonial on the back recommending this book and stating that Dr. Willey's diet principles follow exactly what he does on a day to day basis. So if you don't like my opinion it is hard to argue with Mr. Olympia. Great book for anyone trying to put on lean mass while losing fat mass whether you are a seasoned pro or a beginner. I also highly recommend his other book "What does your doctor look like naked." While the books target audience is more the general public it still has some extremely powerful information on how food is a drug and how it can benefit us if we understand how it works.

5 comments about How Can I Help? Stories and Reflection on Service.
- I read the book called "How can I help" by Ram Dass and Paul Groman when I attended a seminar for care givers. It was intended to help us not get "used up" or "burned out" as the saying goes. The book has a number of vignettes followed by commentary. Each vignettes has proven an inspiration and the commentary has always added to the insight.
I do something I call "peer counseling". What it means is I simply try to provide a really safe place for them to express themselves. I have a structured way of developing that environment but that's too complex for this email. I believe that even if we think very hard about an issue we still need to say the words before we get a complete perspective. When we say the words out loud the first time to someone else we some times think, "Damn I'm right!" other times we think, "Boy is that stupid." and I try to provide a non-judgmental place to reach a conclusion. I also expect that if the outcome is the second they will try to distance themselves from everything that was associated with time spent working in the wrong direction. Generally that means they distance themselves from me too. I have to help them leave me with no feelings of guilt because they are "abandoning" someone who has befriended them. That is the second part of my counsel letting them go guilt free. I sometimes fear "losing" clients will drain me but re-reading the vignettes in the book renews me.
- This book is filled with insights. These insights are hidden gems of wisdom revealing our personalities desire to seek and find what we all have in common. This unity is driven by our need and desire to find peace in the midst of life's most difficult moments. As our heart goes out to those in need, our acts of service contain our soul's longing to connect with a fellow soul. Once our soul is awakened in service, a path opens and leads us into a sacred human relationship infused by the power of peace. Thanks, Ram Dass, for your guidance into the realm of spirit through the words written in this book.
I also recommend: What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living by Samuel Oliver
- I am a social worker and an author. I have recently become involved with writing about medical as well as human rights issues. (My book BEHIND THE BURQA, which is to be published in October by John Wiley, is the memoir of two women who escaped the brutality of Afghanistan and the suffering they endured in the US.) Through my work, I have come into contact with people, such as the two subjects of my book, who have endured excruciating circumstances. HOW CAN I HELP sits on my night table so that I can read it after I've come home from interviewing someone in pain. It addresses all the issues that come up when people try to help each other, whether as "helping professionals" or simply as friends or family who are reaching out--guilt, burnout, fear, sense of helplessness--the myriad emotions that afflict those who want to make a difference in the lives of others. HOW CAN I HELP is psychologically astute, spiritually enlightening and written with great gentleness, compassion and occasional moments of humor. I feel the authors have become my mentors and friends. They accompany me to detention centers when I interview imprisoned asylum-seekers who have fled horrific tortures. They're with me when I visit people in the hospital. Their wisdom and guidance inspire me and inform my ability to remain intimately involved with people who have undergone horrible suffering. This book should be required reading in medical schools, psychology and social work programs, and any other context in which people are being trained to work with others in need.
- An excellent book on helping ourselves which in turn act in helping others in a life of service. The awareness first must be found in ourselves before we can exercise the compassion for others. It is here we gain insight into a larger order of lawfulness we cannot understand rationally but which nevertheless resonates within. Compassion becomes an increasingly automatic response.
Ideas conveyed rest in the process of ambiguity and paradox in the realm of not knowing, resting in mystery. Living in the game of subjectivity, we always remain in touch with the silent observer, the witness self in calm abiding and when caught up in subjectivity to see the absurdity of the game and using absurd comedy to deal with it. We end up trusting in a larger pattern beyond the absurd surface world of our actions. We see the truth in uncertainty, we maintain the Zen beginner's mind. We work on ourselves as a vehicle for our higher selves. And we recognize that all of us have a flag to wave which is the folly of our human existence. We are conscious of our lack of integrity while trying to convince others, as we see ourselves from the outside as the silent witness. We see compassion and peace as the only way to make peace in everything we do and are in touch with the quiet self behind all our subjective roles, behind all the thinking, actions and experiences. We see the polarization's of differences as our habits of thinking, seeing beyond the circle of opposites knowing that our mind acts in Gestalt as it perceives and decides in categorizing what is essentially neutral information.
The way to compassion is simply to just listen, stop thinking, stop speaking and listen. be the observer. Its our reactions that determine our pains and sufferings as opposed to the happenings themselves. We acknowledge our weaknesses and refrain from blinding ourselves in subjectivity. Its our dispassionate need as the observer, the we see our own reactions from the view as an outsider watching our reactions as habitual patterns our physical and mental beings perform.
Our thoughts act as clouds that pass by and we can be aware of this if we can gain the ability to observe them as an outside consciousness, alert to when we get sucked up in subjectivity. To rest in awareness in ourselves, with company, allowing and helping others to find themselves. The sage helps the ten thousand things find their own nature. We move away from viewing the world strictly in concepts and recognize the intellect blinds intuitive awareness. We see our self image as a prison we create, roles to survive in this game of life but also a prison for us if we fail to find our higher objective observer selves. We need our roles to survive as humans and communicate with one another but in order not to get trapped in them we have to enter behind our roles out of the blindness.
"The most familiar models of who we are - father and daughter, doctor and patient, helper and helped - often turn out to be major obstacles to the expression of our caring instincts; they limit the full measure of what we have to offer one another . . they are delusions of separateness. Our task is to free our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty . . " p.20
- My wife and I are both first person volunteers (Red Cross and St. Vincent de Paul Society) and we both have full time jobs. I thought that we know about helping until I read this book.
Basically, it starts with a focus on knowing and understanding yourself, tossing in a little mediation practice for good measure. If you are helping to feel better about yourself, you are not really helping.
Along the way there are, as other reviewers have said, inspirational stories that (well) inspire. It is a great balance of discussion and insight with stories about service.
When I got to the section on burn-out, I presumed that I know the answers. I have survive burnout and read several really good books on the subject. Relax, step back, etc. This book has an entirely different perspective that I think is more useful than the other books.
If you want to help people, and I presume if you are reading this book that you do, then you should consider reading this book. Thanks for helping.

5 comments about Flipping the Switch...: Unleash the Power of Personal Accountability Using the QBQ!.
- I used this book for our annual staff retreat. It is great for employee development of personal accountability. This book has made a difference in the lives of my employees and subsequently in the culture of our company!
- I think the book is so great that I purchased several copies for my employees to help them see what I saw...personal responsibility starts with ME! This books teaches you how to practically apply "giving" and "serving." It's about ME. I also think our politicians should read this book to learn what REAL personal responsibility is so that they can stop blaming the government for not doing enough.
I'm responsible. It's about me. I change! It's not about them. It's MY life and I can change.
- I liked the first book and it really got me thinking of all those IQ's in my life and how to get rid of them. I think I expected the same thing with this book but for whatever reason I came away feeling let down. It just seemed like less substance than the first and more of a fluff of highlights while trying to cling on to book 1. NOT a bad read but not as inspiring as the first.
- Flipping the switch is a very enjoyable read in which the author John Miller is basically asking the question: Would you rather be part of the problem or the solution? To be part of the solution, all it takes, according to him, is a shift in perspective. Instead of asking "why me?" switch to "what can I do?". It is a simple shift, which takes you from the victim's chair into the driver's seat and allows you to experience satisfaction and transformation in all areas of your life.
In this respect the book reminded me very much of the work of Ariel and Shya Kane Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation , How To Create a Magical Relationship and Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment. The Kanes also present the idea that a shift in perspective can transform your life instantaneously and take you from the realm of working on yourself and thinking, to the realm of being yourself and being enlightened. Instantaneous Transformation is accessible when you flip the switch and choose to be present in the moment rather than lost in your thoughts.
I highly recommend both the work of John Miller and Ariel and Shya Kane to anybody looking to live a "bright" life!
- Flipping the Switch is a great follow up to QBQ. The concept of QBQ is great but to really make it a core value, it takes follow up and understanding on the part of the leaders. This book helps leaders to understand what is needed to make personal accountability a core value. It is a little more to think about than QBQ, but very helpful. It will be part of the whole package of personal accountability for me.

5 comments about Maximum Confidence: Ten Secrets of Extreme Self-Esteem.
- I was not expecting this program to be this good for the price I thought I was only getting 1 disc. Not 5 and when I applied some of the techniquies he mentions during the course THEY work.
- I thought this was supposed to help me gain confidence it does not cover that subject at all I already had this in a cassete tape since 2001 talks about the same things here whatever...
- Jack Canfield is absolutely wonderful. This is perfect for anyone looking to maximize their confidence and live life to the fullest! Don't be skeptical, this REALLY does work! I've spent hours listening to it and using his advice and my life has gotten so much better by the day!! Listen to me, you cannot waste another minute even thinking about this...just get it! and you absolutely will not regret it!
- I came to be exposed to the teaching of Jack canfield shortly after the Secret. I subsenquently, after reading the Success Principle, bought practically all his material. This Maximum confident material gave me more than I expected. Canfield went beyond just helping me with confident he covered more and I am grateful.
Dr. Israel King, Ph.D. Author of How To Keep A Man
- From making me laugh one minute to crying the next, Jack really gets down to the point on getting maximum confidence. He hit the nail right on the head with me, and from now on I doubt there will be any looking back. Highly recommended for anyone who honestly wants to make big change in their life, this disc set is full of great advice and tips on how you can achieve anything with great confidence. A++

5 comments about Type Talk: The 16 Personality Types That Determine How We Live, Love, and Work.
- The descriptions of the types are great. This is very well written and most informative. I recommend it most definitely and wish the inefficient, one-size-fits-all obsolete psych of the education system could get thrown out in favor of this more practical psych system.
The only place the Otto and Janet missed the boat completely is where they try and guess famous people's types: they are nearly always off base, strangely.
- Have you ever walked into a co-workers office and asked them a question as they first look at you with a glazed look, and then ask you to repeat the question? Have you dealt with a people who take forever to answer anything? How about trying to understand individuals who seem to be somewhat unfocused and a bit scattered in their conversation?
The book Type Talk is a great introduction to understanding the personality make up of these types of people and basically everyone else. This book breaks down the 16 Myers Briggs Types to come up with an introduction to individuals who want to know why people do the things they do. For individuals who know types through the MBTI, this book will assist you in understanding the type of almost anyone you talk with, and be able to relate better with them. For someone who has not been through the MBTI, this book will allow you to be introduced to personality types without animal names, colors or something that sounds like a sickness (phlegmatic....ahem....) You will come to understand and reflect on how someone who tends to be more Introverted or Extroverted, Sensing or iNtuitive, Thinking or Feeling, Judging or Perceiving and how a combination of the above will determine how people tend to relate to the people in their lives, how they approach life in general and daily. This book could help everyone to understand the world we live in. One thing though, don't put people in a box. If someone is considered one of the 16 types, that is not a box they are in, that is the reference they usually feel most comfortbably working from. Thuesen and Kroeger bring together their years of research and have a lot of documentation for back up and instruction. A must book if you are in Human Resources, Training or Education or if you love the differences that make up the human race.
- This book is an amazing introduction to Typology. I started reading it and could not put it down. There is so much useful information in this book that can only help you when you have dealings with others. It can also help you learn a great deal about yourself. The authors pointed out that was the main purpose of this book.
For example is was able to determine that I am a INFP. I also learned that it's very uncommon to be an INFP, being a male. I was also able to learn what types of work envoirnments I work well in, what types of careers people with my type are attracted too, what other types I correspond with best, and much more. Also finding out that all of my poor Introverted people were persecuted for being so quiet, and often recieved constant day-to-day pressure to get out and be normal (so I'm not alone). Not realizing that this behavior could not be more normal. This book is a very easy and enjoyable read. Everything is well organized and laid out. The authors use alot of conversation examples between different personality types, often a riot to read, it also makes a point about different types of people, which really helped me the most. This book has so much to offer, everybody can benefit greatly from it.
- Morphological
You can't really tell what personality type a person is just by using the guide in this book, you need Socionic's morphological method in order to get trough that first step. It's a great book once you know what personality types everybody is.
There are other serious problems with the typelogic tests. The one you take on typelogic dot com determines your internal self. Myself for example-internally I am ESTJ but in reality I am INFJ (ESTJ is my dual-the person who is the best match for my personality type). Second, as you can see from my example of testing ESTJ my internal dual-seeking self is manifesting outwardly flawing the results of the test thereby putting you in a pool of people you wouldn't get along with. For correct results-type yourself using How to Find Yourself and Your Best Match Socionics by Rod Novichkov then take the MBTI test and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
- This book was recommended to me by someone who is trained in Personality Types. I took the questionnaire with this person so this book is the 'companion' to the work I've been doing. But, it is not necessary to use the book along with a professional!!
Type Talk is written very well, easy to understand, with a lot of examples. It's not written in a technical fashion, so any lay person can understand what is discussed.
As far as the information: packed full. This is a great book. I'm thinking of picking up a few copies for some people close to me. (I'd give them my copy when I'm done but I'm going to hang on to for future reference!) The authors don't expect the book to be the final, end-all problem solver. Rather, it's a tool to understand the way people tend to act, think and talk.
It's great for figuring out relationships at home, work or with friends and why we all react the way we do. I highly recommend it.

5 comments about Overcoming Compulsive Hoarding: Why You Save & How You Can Stop (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook).
- Covering a limited range of emotional reasons for this compulsion & how to address them. Useful to those particular sufferers..
But if like me, hoping to help a family member with their hoarding, whose particular attitudes & reactions aren't mentioned anywhere, not really much help.
I did learn a few things - the difference between OCPD & OCD.. Not the book it claims to be..
Strongly suggest reading review by Betsy1479 (Jan. 18th).
- This book is so good, I couldn't read it all in one sitting, in that I didn't want to distill the feeling that it gave me in the beginning, for fear the author would destroy it all with nonsense words. It has opened possibilties I'd never before considered. It's made me think differently about why I can't let go of things. And after reading this book, for the first time in my life, I'm coming closer to understanding why what is material is important to me.
And by "material," I mean, just old photographs, my grandmother's wedding gown, my great-grandmother's piano, stuff like that. This book explains how it's not important.
But maybe this author didn't go through watching almost everyting destroyed through three hurricanes, two floods, and an absent-minded tornado. So I also feel a bit of angst when someone living in a highrise in New York writes a book explaining to me why "material" things are important to me....and shouldn't be.
At the same time, the writer made some good points and I'm going to try and follow them. Honest.
- Compulsive hoarding is a dirty little secret in America. If you have a friend or family member who will never allow you into their home, that is a big red flag warning you that they are afflicted with this disorder.
Someone who cannot bear to part with anything someone else would consider minor, such as junk mail, twist ties, broken pens and pencils--to the point there are literally hundreds or thousands of such items and it affects their ability to walk through their living space is a compulsive hoarder.
Everyone has a bit of the pack rat in them, this book helps the person, and especially the families of such individuals, identify this disorder and gives a method of dealing with the consequences.
- Overcoming Compulsive Hoarding: Why You Save & How You Can Stop (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) As a "recovering" hoarder, I found this book useful and helpful. I even bought a second copy for a friend who is also trying to come to grips with the problem.
It is an easy read and it's full of insights. Besides that, it takes up very little space!
- As someone who hoards along with her mother, this book is a tremendous help in understanding the problem, and provides assistance in helping to alleviate the compulsive hoarding.
As advertised within the book, THE BOOK NEVER MAKES YOU FEEL BAD about your problem.
I higly recommend this book to anyone who has a compulsive hoarding problem or is a packrat of sorts.
My living situation is improving based on my reading this book. Soon I'll have the whole coach cleaned off and will be able to enjoy sitting and watching TV for once in years.
I grew up in a dysfunctional family where we never had any company because you could not walk through the house and it was so embarassing. I can remember as far back as age 13 (now 46), when the house was a mess thanks to my mother. How depressing. Never had friends over, never had a birthday party for me or most of my other siblings. We, as children, were miserable and had a rotten childhood because of my mom's problem which I inherited or learned to some degree.
Again, this book never makes you feel like you're an idiot or psychotic for having a problem. The book is supportive and very informative. I haven't finished reading it yet, but an half way through and already I am empowered to clean up and do the right thing. I hope I can keep the house clean from now on and not hoard anymore. I use to be a dumpster diver - literally.

5 comments about Focusing.
- Gedlin should be hugely applauded for this book. "Focusing" details, simply and clearly, the steps needed to make significant, life-altering changes. The book centers on the characteristics of people who are able to make the necessary changes as opposed to those who continue on the path of therapy forever.
- This book is certainly not what I expected. It's quite "dated"-- I got the impression that the technique described in the book was a fad in the 80s. I'll just say it did not help me learn how to actually "focus"...
- A wonderful technique for those who have read enough books and are ready to take on the adventure of reading their own inner world.
- I have applied the idea of felt sense a few times and found it very interesting and helpful. I learned to be more in tune with my feelings, even though it's really through bodily sensations.
- This approach seems very Gestaltian. I found this book by reading "Toward a Psychology of Awakening." I found the method is effective until the last step or two. Focusers seem to believe that these felt shifts are easy and can happen any time you focus correctly. I do not believe this pattern fits all people. These 'felt shifts' seem to happen later, with more awareness of the bodily manifestations of my mind. And I cannot force anything to happen when I want it to, but it does happen in its own way, spontaneously. It's like what Fritz Perls emphasized, with enough awareness, the organism automatically heals itself.

5 comments about The Way: Using the Wisdom of Kabbalah for Spiritual Transformation and Fulfillment.
- "The Way" -- with a title like that you'd think you were purchasing your very own spiritual epiphany. In less than one hundred pages if I remember correctly.
I actually picked this up when I was walking through the mall. I'd already been sort of curious about the subject, I've been studying Wicca and Buddhism for years and I'm always open to new ideas.
So as you might be able to imagine, I with my new found interest, curled up in a chair and began reading about "The Way". Oooh.
A mere 30 minutes later it was done. Nothing had been said in that thing that a teenager can't sit and think about on their own. For being a ten dollar book, this thing can seriously just as well serve as an intro to a much more thorough book. But then again that wouldn't make as much money. Had this been written out of passion it wouldn't have been so vague and brief.
Don't waste your time on this, or on anything written by the Bergs.
Kabbalah has a lot of great ideas and I still haven't given up hope, I'm still reading and looking for good writing. Someone give me something thought provoking and detail oriented.
-
This is a very interesting book. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for spiritual answers. You may not agree with everything -- and that's OK. But take whatever you get from this book and simply make it yours. You don't have to become a follower of Kabbalah to put some of the ideas into practice. Try it. You may like it.
Also recommended: "What Did Jesus Really Say, How Christianity Went Astray: [What To Say To A Born Again Christian Fundamentalist, But Never Had The Information]" by Peter Cayce
- This book helps to develop personal relationship with God and find the way to Eternal Life. The person who gains Eternal Life has accomplished the goal of life. This book helps the humanity to accomplished the goal of life.
- This was the first Kabbalah book that I read, definetely the right one, the subject being so new to me, since I am not Jewish, but Michael Berg writes so beautifully and it such simple words that I understood easily and so did my soul. It gave me a very good intro to Kabbalah, has beautiful stories about the Baalshemtov (a Tzadik, mystic, sage), it has the beautiful story about the white Angels, the black Angels and the grey Angels, after this story, I see dificulties in my life from a totally diferent perspective. This book talks about redemption, and God's mercy, and many more subjects that can only enrich your life!!! After this book I continue to read The Essential Zohar, the 72 names of God, which I meditate on frequently, and so on, the journey continues!!!
- great book + great author = a perfect combination...even if i dont agree upon some of 'the way', it is indeed a great source for reference or personal library and spiritual quest...and although im not jewish, i know that i will flip the pages on a periodic basis ;)

- I didn't like the book at first. But that is characteristic of anyone seeing something in themselves that needs to be changed. After going through the book 3 times and using it as a practical guide I am remembering how to like myself again. My "what if's" don't have to rule my life.
- I have found many books and articles on this topic but this one stands alone. It is the refreshing way in which the problems are solved, not the symptoms. I was in a place I simply hated, and all aspects of my life were involved. I didn't know where to start, but knew something had to be done. They say the first step is the toughest, but buying this book made it easier. I refuse not let myself get to that place again. I have been taught how it happens and I am in control. If you truley want to make a change for the better TODAY, then start by buying this book. You will never get as much for so little!!
- It's spooky really. The more I read this book, it seems the more the author is "reading" me! I'm not yet finished, but can say without a doubt there's something for everyone here. The last part of the sub-title, "creating the life you want", pretty much sums it up.
- On the good side, this book is well-written, flows nicely from paragraph to paragraph, and is very easy to read. On the bad side, I simply didn't find anything deeply insightful like I was expecting. It is fairly simplistic book about developing a better relationship with yourself, and is probably best suited for someone who is starting out on this path. As someone who has done a bit of self-analysis and self-improvement over the years, I feel this book simply didn't offer anything new or have enough compelling content to earn a recommendation. If you are looking for something that is more meaty, I think there are better choices out there.
- I had about given up on feeling better. It was just not meant for me. So I got this CD set (honestly, who could stand reading?) and listened while I drove to work. Then I listened some more. The things Luciani pointed out were so obvious and so stark from what I had over-analyzed before, it made a difference in my life immediately. It's like lending someone your watch so they can tell you what time it is.
If you're read Dale Carnegie's 'How to Stop Worrying...' and agreed with it in principle but just couldn't make the ideas work (I had this problem), this book is very similar - with one exception. It helps you to see the self-sabotage going on inside you head. I see the two books as being very similar, but Self-Coaching gives you the ammo. It helps you recognize what's going on - when it's happening. And then it gives you the tools to combat it.
Things continue to get better now. I keep working at the very simple ideas and that propels me on. I am glad I took the chance with this CD set. If you've about given up, I suggest you give it a shot.
