5 comments about The Enneagram Made Easy: Discover the 9 Types of People.
  1. For me this book is delightful (I am a type 7). I already had a couple of very dry and informative books on this topic and then my friend and I were introduced to this book at an Enneagram training session. I makes us laugh, helps us to understand the types in an easily accessible way and I pick it up often. Have just ordered copies for friends and other books by the same authors. Enjoy it for what it is, the clue is in the title. It does not cover all aspects of the Enneagram, you wil need other books for that.

  2. This book makes it easy for beginners to understand the nine types of the enneagram. Illustrated with a number of simple cartoons, this book makes an excellent companion to more in-depth works such as the introduction by Richard Rohr and Andreas EbertThe Enneagram: A Christian Perspective or by Helen PalmerThe Enneagram: Understanding Yourself and the Others In Your Life. The book includes quizzes for readers to use in identifying themselves or others; I found these to be quite helpful. It's a fun book, both textually and visually, but don't think that it's shallow; it contains a great deal of excellent information. If I had one criticism, it's that the book struck me (a male) as written primarily from the female point of view. Then again, that in itself might be a valuable source of insight! This book is well worth the price and a great addition to one's library.

  3. True, this is not going to be one of those dense and scholarly tomes footnoted with information on the deep spiritual history of the Enneagram - but that's okay. In fact, it's a good thing. These authors have decided to put a new spin on the Enneagram and serve up information in a fresh new way. Basically, they're bypassing the reader's formal, conscious mind which has a short attention span and is probably hopelessly burdened with information-overload, and are appealing to one's sense of play.

You open the sturdy, oversized trade paperback and immediately see the cartoon drawings: fun and appealing. Look closer, and you'll notice their insightfulness. Many illustrate all nine Enneagram types in the same setting (such as a dinner party), having distinctly different reactions. The opportunity to compare and contrast the types is funny and illuminating.

Meanwhile the text organizes a chapter for each Enneagram type. Within each chapter is a helpful quiz to determine if you are that type, plus capsule descriptions of that type that emphasize the practical rather than the abstract. For example, How to Get Along with a Four, What I Like about Being a Six, Eights as Children, Twos as Parents, What's Hard about Being a Five, Typical Thoughts of a Seven.

Once you've identified your type, you can turn to the helpful suggestions about improving your health, career, and relationships. You also learn all of the basic information about the Enneagram that one needs to know: the Wing of each type (that is, the neighboring type that influences you), and to which direction on the circular Enneagram diagram you tend to move when evolving in positive or negative ways. Not quite enough info in the book to warrant a five-star review (that would be asking a lot) but highly recommended as an introduction.

  4. this book is soo insightful .... i just breeds compassion for everyone else
out there, who doesn't do things "your way" .... now you understand
their motivation ..... weather it's fear, love, curiosity .... ect. It also
helps you understand where you go under stress .... and when you are in
alignment .... you can see why 2 people who have had the exact same experience
can see things COMPLETELY differently ....

  5. I hestitate to place anyone--particularly children--into personality categories, especially because by using the methods taught to me in this book, The Enneagram Made Easy, I couldn't find a single personality type with which to identify whole-heartedly. One minute I believed I was "The Achiever," only to find equal identifications with "The Perfectionist," "The Helper" and "The Romantic." Now, I ask, is that a flaw with the way the determining factors of the enneagram are presented within these pages or a flaw with me/my interpretation? And what do we really gain by placing labels on people? I will say this philosophy is a bit more interesting to me than using signs of the Zodiac. But they're on a par.

With artistic, coloring book-like layout and several simple cartoon depictions, this book serves as a good and easy-to-understand portrayal of what can be a complicated theory. We used it with high schoolers in a Sunday School program and it served as a good springboard for discussion.

5 comments about I Don't Know What I Want, But I Know It's Not This: A Step-by-Step Guide to Finding Gratifying Work.
  1. A book like this is as good as the reader. In order to find one self one must look inward and that takes a little work, maybe even more than a little. Julie Jansen's book is a great help in helping the reader start that search and she then guides the reader to the direction he or she must take. Does the book guarantee a new career? No, I don't think so but if the reader works at it, it can come.It probably will. Julie Jansen's Guide is as good as a book like this can get. It is then up to the reader to make use of it. That's the work part. I like the book very much. Anyone willing to work to impove their lives will like it too.

  2. This book gets into the "meat and potatoes" of career development. I encourage anyone who is "lost" to read this and start doing what it takes to find a realistic, economically sound, and FUN job! They do exist...I found one.

  3. This is a concisely written career book that doesn't waste your time and invites you in even for scary stuff like self-assessment. If you believe that 'real jobs' have not lived up to their promise, you should check out this book. Also, the author, Julie Jansen, is highly responsive to email questions and sincere about helping those of us seeking something more than a paycheck.

  4. The Renaissance Soul: Life Design for People with Too Many Passions to Pick Just One This book, even the title alone!, is a great comfort for those of us who find it easier to say what we don't want to do than to identify the next right position for us. And if you're like me and have lots of different interests, any five of which might sound just fine today as long as we can pick five more tomorrow, the job of identification can be even harder. It's great to have the support of a book like Jansen's to make our daunting task a little easier.

  5. This is a great book for anyone considering a career change but doesn't quite know where to begin or how to decide what they want to be when they grow up. The book is filled with various self-assessments to help the reader determine particular strengths or interests. It begins by assessing where you are now and looking at where you would like to be. Next, the book moves on to how to get to where you want to be by using the self-assessments and offers the "keys" to success. The self-assessments are a valuable tool to the reader.

5 comments about A Woman's Way Through the Twelve Steps.
  1. I purchased this for my sponser, as she saw my copy and really liked it.

  2. I have gone through the Steps using this twice in small groups. Excellent way to work the steps with those you sponsor.

  3. The language of the 12Steps, writen over 70 years ago, primarily for male alcoholics is a tried and true series of 'suggestions' that have seen many men and women find sobriety and a better way of life. A Woman's Way Through the Twelve Steps is very faithful to the 12 Steps as written in the Big Book but 'plumps out' the language in a way that is helpful and speaks to the spiritual and emotional needs of women. We have used this book in several groups and found the content to be so rich that we have to often take the Steps in two or three sessions. Its a gift!

  4. If you need help understanding how the 12 step work, for you or a loved one, read this book

  5. Just a few words to call attention to the omissions. Anne Ripley Smith, wife of A.A. cofounder Dr. Bob, was called the "Mother of A.A." It was she who taught about God, the Bible, prayer, and guidance to early AAs and their families. She formed the first Women's Group in 1936--a year after A.A. itself was founded. Then there was Henrietta Buckler Seiberling who "infused much needed spirituality" into Dr. Bob and Bill in the founding days and helped the Christian Fellowship in Akron to produce the astonishing successes between 1935 and 1938. Finally, there was Grace Moore Snyder, a recovered alcoholic, a long-time AA worker, and the wife of the venerable Clarence Snyder. These three were "women in recovery." And their roles underline the part that Christian women played and can play when the goal is reliance on God, growth in fellowship with Him, and carrying the message of God's power to those who still suffer. God Bless, Dick B.Anne Smith's Journal, 1933-1939: A.A.'s Principles of Success; Henrietta B. 5 comments about The Art of Loving.
  1. Fromm makes it clear that love is not some cheap sentiment that we receive or that we become "loveable" to earn love. He makes it clear that no easy cliches will teach us the art of loving. In other words, this is no self-help book packaging easy-to-swallow bromides about love. Rather, Fromm argues we must first eradicate our illogical and inaccurate notions of love in modern society and see that love is not an "object" but a "faculty," a way of being that requires complete transformation of the whole personality. Once he establishes that being loving is a rare achievement, he establishes the theory and practice of love. The theory is rooted in a tragic view of humans, namely, we are lonely and separate and this separateness can only be overcome by love, which requires discipline and patience and of course practice. This small gem of a book has survived and will survive because even though the answers are not easy they are true and universal. An excellent companion to this masterpiece is Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning.

  2. I read Erich Fromm's book many years ago, when I was in college in the late 60s/early 70s. It subtantially changed the way I viewed the world and to today influences what I believe and do.

I just bought a copy of the volume for my daughter who is working her way into adulthood, on the hope that it can help her the way it helped me.

I don't think there is any other work I have recommended to others more in my life and I recommend it to you. It is a short, wise book.

    William J. Trinkle----

  3. This book was very impressive and I learned a lot about the subject of love and myself. It would be nice if every couple who are deciding to get married would read this book. If they did, perhaps they would understand going in that there is a lot more to it than 'what is in it for me.' Perhaps the sad divorce rate in our country would dissipate some extent. This book belongs on the top shelf with the other books I consider master works. I plan on reading the rest of Fromm's works.

  4. "Most people see the problem of love primarily as that of being loved, rather than that of loving, of one's capacity to love. Hence the problem to them is how to be loved, not how to love." -Eric Fromm, The Art of Loving

I picked up this book by chance at the Miami Dade County Book Fair. I had heard of Fromm briefly in my psychology class, and thought this little book (the actual text not more than 130 pages) would be a great companion to another book I picked up on love in Shakespeare's plays. Judging by his background psychology, I prepared myself for The Art of Loving to turn out like many other psychoanalytic books tend to be: a small book that would take an unimaginable amount of time to read. However, it was quite the contrary; what I encountered in this small book was an eye-opening experienced that made me aware of both my accomplishments and my failures in life. I found myself reading the book from cover to cover, flipping it over and starting again.

As I read (and reread) the book felt like Fromm was talking directly to me, as if he and I were sitting down and having an in-depth conversation on love's role in my life. Fromm touches on all forms of love from parental love, to brotherly (neighborly) love, to erotic love, to love of God, and to self love, which he specifically explains is very different from narcissism. He speaks of the problem in the Western world's concept of love as a temporary gratification and a purely selfish act and discusses how to rectify it by attempting to invert what is seen and practiced in the world by learning to live in love, hinging it on the art of giving of oneself.

However, do not expect, as Fromm states in the first section of this book, that you will find a step by step guide on `how to love'. This book is more of an awareness of what love is and how humanity does not love. It very much reveals yourself to yourself, and shows you how love is verb not a noun (thus an art and not a name). It is something you have to do constantly, not wait for it to come to you. As Fromm says, "What are the necessary steps in learning any art? One, mastery of the theory; two, mastery of the practice." For Fromm love is the answer to human existence and one must first learn to love oneself before he can attempt to love others. It is a self-changing experience.

  5. This author is amazing. His insight from back in the 30's- 50's is really incredible.
A perceptive and great writer. I enjoy his work. This book is very special because it the first one I read of his. I've given this book to many friends.
    Highly recommended.

5 comments about The Orgasm Bible: The Latest Research and Techniques for Reaching More Powerful Climaxes More Often.
  1. This book, along with Sex, Your Woman and You: How to Sexually Please Your Woman in the Bedroom and Beyond has been a godsend! It really shows you how to improve your sex life. It's definitely worth every penny I paid for it.

  2. This book is packed with great info about orgams--how to get there, what they are and how to get more. A definite must read! I also liked Good Sex: A Woman's Guide to Losing Inhibition .

  3. This book reminds me of a Cosmo article with illustrations. For example, page 70 is nothing more than a brief explanation of caressing, use of feathers, silk and stroking. The book is only 160 pages and much of that is pictures. That leaves very little room for actual instuction.

Lacking is a detailed explanation of the orgasm and the anal component of the female orgasm. Anal sex receives only a few comments on pages, 122-125. I was fairly disappointed in the lack of information in this book.

For a better explanation of orgasm, I recommend "The Technology of Orgasm" by Maines and "Anal Sex for Couples" by Strong.

  4. I love the way she writes, so female sex postive. Because of this, I recommend that every woman who can have access to this book, should read it and make their own conclusions.

  5. Great writer, great pictures--all-in-all a lovely book. Every woman should keep one in her personal library so that she can have it handy for reference. I say it is ALMOST the last word on orgasm, because another book specifically address women's difficulty having orgasms while engaging in intercourse. Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love: Female Orgasm Made Simple tackles this problem with a simple, easy-to-follow three step technique. And if you really want mind-blowing orgasms, have your lover learn the art of cunnilingus. Reciprocate by learning the art of fellatio yourself. How? By reading this great book: The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex. It's a flip over book with everything you need to know about cunnilingus on one side and everything you need to know about fellatio on the other. Buy all three, and you will really be in business!

5 comments about The Anger Control Workbook.
  1. This workbook provides comprehensive and practical information for one of the greatest issues in our society today. It includes an explanation of the costs of anger, undertanding your anger, and a myriad of techniques to effectively control your anger including relaxation skills, Cognitive Behavioral skills, problem solving and much more. this book is a great resource for clinicinas working with anegr in theoir careers as well as those who desire a resource to help them explore and handle the anger that resides within them. Highly recommended.

  2. I've enjoyed Matthew McKay's other anger management books "When Anger Hurts" and especially "Being a Man: A Guide to the New Maculinity." -- the latter book changed the tenor of my life for which I am truly grateful.

"Being a Man" was an excellent book, and a precursor to this book "The Anger Control Workbook." And as the title says, it is a WORKBOOK. It incorporates ALL the suggestions made in the earlier books, provides an immediate set of exercises to use, and simplifies the process without having to "read" a lot of background material as you had to do with the earlier books.

I suggest this book to individuals needing IMMEDIATE relief from anger arousal. I keep many copies on hand and give to friends seeking help. I think it works only for people seeking help and wanting change; and wouldn't apply to those in trouble and not willing to make personal changes.

The book comes with many photocopy-ready pages, with easy methods to handle the next 24-hours, and then a few days, and then a week, progressing up to a month and more. The work is structured in such a way that real change happens.

If you want a change in yourself, or in someone close to you (e.g., a partner, a therapy client, a coaching client, etc.) this book is an a must read and own!

I consider Matthew McKay PhD as one of the few gifted experts in this field. He is able to write in a way that is easy to understand and easy to incorporate.

  3. I love using self-help books as therapy: they are reasonably cheap and they mobilize you sometimes even better than a therapist - as you know you can't become passive or rely on someone else for your progress.

Over the years, I've seen quite a few good self-help books, and God knows, I've been duped by a few unhelpful ones in glossy covers. It always puzzles me to see how some of these real duds can manage to make it to the best seller's lists and stay there. I know it's human to seek simplistic answers, only to find out, that the solution to a long-term problem is never as easy and quick as the book promises.

A while back, I was lucky to get a hold of a book called The Authoritative Guide to Self-Help Books. The book is a result of a well-respected study that rates hundreds of self-help books/films/websites for various disorders such as depression, anger, obesity, anxiety, low self-esteem and so on. In the anger category, the only book found to be highly effective (5 stars) was the book I am currently reviewing.

This is the most concise book I've seen on this complex subject about 150 pages), but it's the essence of all I needed.

In my opinion, a self help book is good if:

    1. It's simple, clear and free of psychobabble with a minimum of stories of non-existant humans;

    2. It doesn't dwell exessively on the past no matter how sad, but rather enourages action to change;

    3. The issues feel relevant and you see the application to your unique situation immediately;

    4. It is scientifically proven to work. It does not promise you easy and quick results but realistic and common-sense;

The Anger Control Workbook is such self-help book.

It starts by teaching you how to relax on demand. Try to be angry when you are completely relaxed-it's impossible.

Relaxation is a skill that you perfect with 20-minute daily practice. You use this skill to temporarily calm yourself and buy time so that you can plead and reason with yourself not to act impulsively and cause an unrepairable damage.

Then, the book addresses your thought and belief system and helps to correct some of the distortions that are surely lurking there. Automatic and unnoticed distortions provide fertile ground for anger. They help sustain and justify its philosophical existance by painting all sort of seemingly inevitable catastrophes. Authors say, testing and correcting your silent dialog is the most important step in gaining control in any mood change, a.k.a. cognitive therapy.

Finally, the book teaches you how to inoculate yourself against various situations that make you angry by preventing any outbursts in the future. You compile the description of the situations that tick you off and deal with them on your own terms-at home while you are totally relaxed and safe by imagining yourself in the hot situation, and desensitizing yourself, until you get in control.

Often times, I actually found myself memorizing some of the books sentences, and reciting them to myself like mantra. For example, when getting pissed at people whom I deem as incompetent, I'd quell my anger by saying to myself "PEOPLE ARE DOING THEIR BEST". This sentence, as simple as corny as it might sound, would honestly humble myself and make me more human, calming a rising storm inside. It just had that click with me.

In the end, the obvious is worth repeating: this book or any self-help book works only if you use it! Deliberately seeking out situations that make you angry - not avoiding them - and acting in a new, non-agressive fashion, is key. Good luck!

  4. I found this workbook especially helpful for clients I see regarding anger managment. It gives them specific worksheets I can assign as homework outside the therapy office.

  5. Great tool. The principal of my son's school recommended I get this book. That was right after he informed me that my son's mother had restricted my access to all his school records and all after school events until the judge makes a decision. I didn't think anything would help. But, I don't drink so I thought I would give it a try. It really has helped. Get it, use it. It will help.

5 comments about Loser.
  1. Loser by Jerry Spinelli could have been an interesting and overall good book but, in my opinion it was not because it was rushed and undeveloped. The book chronicles the life of Donald Zinkoff from his first day of kindergarten to his last day of eighth grade in a mere two hundred pages. Thus no grade is well developed and neither is any character but the loveable loser and main character Donald Zinkoff. This book was attempting to give a good message about the life through school of a loser. Because it is hard to go through your time in school with out true friends or any real interests to speak of let alone to be unatheletic on top of it. But although the message was no doubt an outstanding one, it left much to be desired as a whole.

  2. Jerry Spinelli is probably the greatest young adult novelist (yes, novelist) for a very good reason. Not only are his books incredibly human and powerful, capturing those illusive essential truths of childhood and adolescence, but they are written in an incredible (yet accessible) modernist, lyrical, and, well--beautiful--prose that captures all the emotions, wonders, and confusions of childhood. His stories seem familiar, and yet they never fall into the trappings of predictability or neatly convenient packaging. In all of these ways, he writes novels that really are good for children of every age (from 0 to 118). In Loser, Zinkoff is one of those off-center kids (another Spinelli gem), messy and silly, a klutz and a joke, gets everything wrong and loses every race. And yet, he is an incredibly happy, innocent, and deeply loving creature. The book is really a character study of this kid, how the world views him, how he views the world. As such, it is incredibly beautiful and poetic, dreamy and childlike. It's an incredible novel, for any age. Grade: A-

  3. I liked this book called Loser. It was about this kid that never really fit in, and threw out his life from when he was a baby to 6th grade. The characters seemed a little more realistic then the other books i have read. I liked the plot, but i thought they could of done a better job with were it took place and a couple other things. I thought there were some parts that I couldnt wait to find out what happened next. I would recomended this book to anyone that likes funny, good books. I enjoyed reading this book and there were alot of funny parts to it. This is deffinatly a book that they could have a sequeal, like when he starts 7th grade and gets a girlfriend of something.

    AS

  4. Have you ever felt as if you were the loser of your class? Everyone in his class thinks of Donald Zinkoff is the loser of there class, but Donald is oblivious to the names he is called. Donald Zinkoff is clumsy, awkward, asks too many questions, laughs too much, and not quite the same as the others in his class. The story takes place in a town from when Donald is in first grade until he is in fifth grade

Its the first day of first grade and Donald loves it. He loves school in general. Everyday is an adventure and he hates being bored. In fourth grade Donald is in the same team as the most athletic kid in class for field day. Their team is in first until Donald messes up and there team loses. By then, everyone seems to notice that he is not like others in the class. People begin to whisper about him and call him names behind his back, but Zinkoff doesn't seem to notice. Donald has never had a best friend, but he is content with himself.

I think that the theme of the book is that everyone deserves a second chance and that you should accept everyone even if they are a little different. Jerry Spinelli writes in a way that really describes how the main characters are feeling. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. The book was good, but there was no climax in the book, and some might find it a little boring. The pacing is slow to medium throughout the book. I would recommend this book to middle school students and those who like realistic fiction and don't mind slow paced books.

  5. Jentz Z. review of Loser by Jerry Spinelli, March 19, 2008.
Donald Zinkoff is a kid who never fit in. Growing up for him was hard, he was teased and bullied. He grew up in the suburbs all his life. Donald has an internal conflict. Ever sense fifth grade he had the nickname loser. The only people he ever connected with were his dad and a girl named Claudia. Near the end of the book Claudia was lost and found shortly after but Donald didn't know and spent hours and hours looking for her. So when Donald was found everyone loved him because he was looking for a girl that had already been found. From then on everyone started calling Donald, Zinkoff, and they loved him again.

5 comments about Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty-first Century.
  1. Tantra i not Kama Sutra. Tantrika is not Sacred sexuality. Tantra is a path of self-realization, a path of merging with the divine, a path of enlightenment and divine bliss. Only one ritual in one school of tantra contains sex, as FIFTH of the ritual! It's not the end all and be all of Tantra. I really wish that western people would STOP calling this sexual escapades of sensuality, "Tantra". Because it's NOT. It's a great perversion and blasphemy to an age old tradtion that requires a powerful guru from a lineage of gurus to initiate and guide you. So called "neo-tantra" is a path of SELF DELUSION and PERVERSION... and utilizes Kama Sutra at best. All of these perverse deluded books about "urban Tantra", "neo-tantra" are just manuals of self delusion, perversion, and ignorance. Please people, wake up and stop ruining age old traditions with all this new age, sexual frenzy mumbo-jumbo.

  2. This is a very excellent book that brings the reader into a deeper spiritual connection with their sexuality; and I do mean spiritual connection, not to be confused with religious connections. The best thing about this book is its openness, it caters to no single ideology, philosophy, or way of life, it only seeks to help people heal all of the damage that sexual repression has wrought in the 20th Century by helping people to accept their passions without guilt. The activities and exercises in the book highlight the slow, rhythmic, energetic nature of tantric sex and include breathing exercises, visualisation techniques, and all sorts of creative sexual fun and games to play with a partner or by yourself. Happy healing!

  3. The book is informative and the author is intelligent. She makes a compelling case for her arguments and her sense of humor is impossible to ignore. In fact, I religiously followed most of the exercises in the book and came to conclude she sure knows her turf.
However, if you are planning on learning Tantra know that this is not the book you want to buy or read. She skews the message of Tantra to appeal to the sex-saturated. Hers was an effort to write a book that transgender people can relate with, she chose Tantra to do that. Keep in mind also that it is written by a prostitute for both normal people and prostitutes. The book has just enough metaphysical wisdom to make it attractive to the seeking mind and enough (spiritual)errors to make the unwary go astray. In this sense, it is a deadly mixture.
The author has a great deal of disdain and animosity towards organized religion. She continually heaped the blame for our sexual problems on our puritanical heritage. She seemed to be intolerant of religious intolerance! Our country owes it greatness to the Puritans who founded it, if they have been f**king around like the author strongly advocates, we would be as backward as the nations where these religions originated from. If some of the ways to meditate and calm your spirit in the book doesn't work for you, I will suggest you grab a Bible and study any Psalm, I have had enough Psalm-gasms (bliss and ecstasy) by just reading these ancient poems.

  4. It's true that Carrellas does not hold fast to any one Tantric lineage or tradition and situates Tantric practice emphatically in the realm of sacred sexuality. If you are looking for an in-depth exploration of traditional Tantric precepts and teachings, you may be disappointed by the book's expansive approach. However, if you're looking for a book that makes traditional Tantric principles accessible and applicable to transformative spiritual and sexual practices, look no further.

This book is amazing. Carrellas conveys so much information; her words and exercises lead to the heart of the matter, revealing the connections between ecstasy and embodiment. Urban Tantra covers everything from breath and energy work to massage techniques, from Tantric approaches to SM to sexual magic, never forgetting that these practices ultimately lead to more holistic and holy ways of being in our bodies. Plus, it's accessible to people of all genders, sexualities, backgrounds, and physicalities-- this is not a book that assumes its audience is composed solely of white, middle-class, monogamous heterosexual couples.

This is one of my all-time favorite books, hands down.

  5. This is a wondeful book for those who want to take their lovemaking to a higher level. I especially loved the techniques that did not specifically focus on the body but on the goal of becoming one totally with your partner.

  1. Chris Prentiss has done it again! This time, however, he goes into more detail than in his excellant book 'The Zen of happiness'. This book is practical in that it includes exercises.
Unlike some other books these are not a drag to complete, but rather they precise the words before and emphatically reinforce the message. Unlike some other genre of books such as 'cosmic ordering' where you make a wish, sit back and wait for your 'request'to happen, this book's message is that the Universe knows what you are thinking, but you must also put in the effort too! The author gives examples from his own life to illustrate the point.
The position is made quite clear 'you create your own reality', make no mistake about it. If you believe otherwise, you will be setting yourself up for a low level of achievement throughout your life and you only have yourself to blame.
I particularly like Chris's explanation on how we perceive everything around us. He dispels the myth almost all of us make that the 'the world is out there' and explains that what we see is reflected light to which we add our own perceptions gained by our experiences.
This book is powerful stuff in that it will strighten out your thinking if you let it and put into practice the exercises. It is difficult to see how what is written here can be improved on now or in the future.
The truth is the truth, always!

  2. It takes more than sheer will power to change a life, alter a life style, deal with life issues. It takes an understanding of the underlying principles of human behavior, the conditions necessitated to successfully dealing with obstacles to desired change, and a practical guide to what is possible with respect to personal self-improvement, self-help goals. "Be Who You Want, Have What You Want" by Chris Prentiss (co-founder and co-director of the Passages Addiction Cure Center, in Malibu, California) is just such a manual of step-by-step procedures for accomplishing significant and enduring personal changes, the attainment of goals and desires, the overcoming of negativity and emotional obstacles to success (including letting go of the past), and the instilling of daily life with peace of mind, enthusiasm for, and the joy of, oneself and the surrounding world. "Be Who You Want, Have What You Want" is a deftly written and superbly presented 288-page compendium of insightful advice and practical assistance also includes work spaces and exercises that make it a truly interactive instructional that can be confidently recommended to non-specialist general readers seeking to improve themselves and their circumstances.

  1. Iyanla did a fabulous job with this album. Her voice is so inspiring, and just helps you get through it or over it! I remember being in a very long relationship and when it ended I did not know which way to turn. A friend made me listen to this album, and I can truly say "that was all she wrote!" Iyanla takes you step by step to begin healing after having to let go. The songs are so inspring as well. If you don't have a copy of this album I suggest you go ahead and get it. You won't regret it!

  2. This book got me through a rough time in my life.
