5 comments about You Can Heal Your Life Affirmations Kit.
- I LOVE this kit. It is so elegant and fun. It is inspiring and bright... I am such a huge fan of Louise Hay that she can do nothing wrong in my eyes. This is so like her to come up with something so cheerful and delightful. It makes a great gift too...
- This is a wonderful product, little kit! It is simple, easy and fun! It comes with a little magnet board and lots of little magnet words, a book, some cards and a cd! What a great complete kit for the price!!!
- I had bought one for myself & liked it so much just ordered 2 more as gifts
- I love the kit, but was disappointed to find out that the affirmation cd was exactly the same one that comes with the "I can do it" book, which I already had and is a great cd. So I was wanting something different than I already had. Louise Hays items are great, but just a bit repetitive. The cards are wonderful and overall it is a great kit!!!
- I really enjoy Louise Hay's products and thoughts. This kit is a tremendous way to incorporate positive affirmations into your everyday on the go life!

5 comments about The Power of Story: Rewrite Your Destiny in Business and in Life.
- Jim Loehr's latest book is one of a handful of recent, great books dealing with the issue of how the stories we tell ourselves (and others) so shape our lives. Debbie Ford, Steve Chandler and Joe Caruso are authors whose writings on this subject I have highly recommended in previous reviews.
All of these books are convincing as to how our stories shape our lives. All make clear that we can change our life by changing the stories we tell ourselves. Loehr's tops the others by laying out a series of very specific exercises to help readers rewrite their stories. Loehr's deep background as a trainer shines through in his thoughtful exercises.
Now doing self-work is generally a much bigger challenge than merely reading about self-improvement. Loehr's exercises take time and thought....something for which the author (rightly) offers no apology. Few worthwhile things in life are gotten without effort.
Not yet ready to buckle down to change your story and your life; then grab the audios by Ford or Canuso to get some added motivation. Then, use Loehr's process to change your story for the better.
Outstanding book, full of extraordinary potential for those who follow Loehr's prescriptions.
- I have been aware for some time that the way we think about ourselves and the decisions that we make is based on a programming of our sub-conscience mind. This programming has been established from the time we were born through today by a filtering system that we have through our relationships with customs, culture, family, friends, peers, colleagues and education whether thru Academia or Hard Knocks.
Dr. Loehr, in Part One, not only identifies these filters that make up what he and others have called `My Story', showing that if our story is not changed, we are destine to continue on with our life as it is. This "Slow Death", as he calls it, is made up of questions we ask ourselves:
"How did it come to this?
What am I doing?
Where am I going?
What do I want?
Is my life working on any meaningful level? Why doesn't it work better?
Am I right now dieing, slowly for something, I'm not willing to die for?
WHY AM I WORKING SO HARD, MOVING SO FAST, FEELING SO LOUSY?"
This is not just for the individuals themselves, it includes the business we own or work for, showing `Your Story' around; work, family, health, happiness and friends.
After showing the process of identifying `Your Story' now, through writing it down, Dr. Loehr, in Part Two, presents `The Resources, Procedures and Practices' that enable one to write, indoctrinate and live `Your Best Life' possible.
Jim Loehr's writing style is not only involving for the reader; the examples (Including his own.) are those that most everyone can relate to. It is an informative, magnetic, yet easy to read volume for self evaluation and improvement.
This process is not without work and accountability, yet gives a person a whole new outlook on who they are and what they are here for, should they follow through.
This book is not only for those who are oblivious to this phenomenon of how story controls our lives. I also recommend this information and instruction for others who are aware of it (Like Me.), to have a better understanding and procedure on `How To Make My Story Better'!
Dr. D. P. Gatten [...]
- This is a very thought provoking and life changing book. Jim Loehr first brings us face to face with the stories that we tell ourselves. Your first reaction is that you don't tell yourself stories. But you do. We all do. And often the stories we tell ourselves are crafted to fit our excuses for why we do or don't do things. As long as we are telling ourselves stories that are not based in reality, we will continue to live according to the story line we are telling ourself.
The book is not just about stories, it is actually a step by step manual for finding out your old story, discovering where it is wrong and then developinig a new story based around your purpose in life.
When most people list their priorities in life, they go something like this: God, family, work and other. But when they really examine their lives, they have made their career the most important thing in their lives. They devote most of their energy to their career and never have enough left for the other things in their lives. They tell themself one story but live another.
There is another very important lesson in the book. We all think that time is our most important asset. As Jim points out, it is not time but the energy we bring to the time we devote to any activity. He gives countless examples of people spending time with family but not fully engaged. The energy is not there.
If we are not physically fit, we do not have sufficient energy to accomplish the tasks we set out to do.
This is not theory. Jim runs the Human Performance Institute in Orlando, FL and the book is filled with examples from the work he has done with thousands of people.
The book is well written, easy to read and a real eye-opener.
There is a step by step plan for the individual to come face to face with their old story, write their new one and change their lifestyle so that they bring their life into harmony.
Well worth reading. You will never be living your ideal life until you get your life aligned with your story. This book tell you why and shows you how. The rest is up to you.
- What stories do you tell yourself about your life? That you must spend every waking hour at the office? That you have no time for exercise? That self-fulfillment is an impossible dream? If this is your internal dialogue, then you should not be surprised if it is also your external reality. Acclaimed performance psychologist Jim Loehr spells out a program that will enable you to discard your old negative stories and develop new positive ones that will make your life better. He shows you how to turn these new stories into your new reality. Plus, he explains why physical energy is crucial in this changeover, and what you must do to stay constantly energized. getAbstract believes that anyone who is stuck in a rut will benefit from reading Loehr's inspirational book and putting his transformational principles to work.
- The Power of Story gives you the opportunity to challenge your current story and decide how you will define your story from this point forward. If the traditional self-help books have not produced results, perhaps it is now time for you to consider digging deeper to create the story of your life. Well...are you ready to write the next chapter...your way?? If you are willing, you will be guided by author Jim Loehr who has worked with Olympic and Professional athletes and the Captains of industry.
Why not take the next step...and see what happens!

5 comments about Living Your Unlived Life: Coping with Unrealized Dreams and Fulfilling Your Purpose in the...Second Half of Life.
- The guidance I sought in reading this book was unrealized. It has many good thoughts such as, "bringing the calmness and focus of being into doing activities is a supreme achievement.""In the second half of life it is not so much what you do that matters; it is the level of consciousness that you bring to your doing." Its many examples are based on Jungian theory and practices. If you have the background, the reading might be more enjoyable.
- From John Howard Prin, author of Secret Keeping: Overcoming Hidden Habits and Addictions
I heartily recommend this book for everyone who yearns to live their dream. The authors have packed much wisdom into 200+ pages, all in a highly readable style. Their insights opened up many mysteries of the unconscious for me and showed healthy ways to experience freedom and fulfillment...to drink life to the last drop.
What I learned was: No matter what path in life we choose, other paths must go "unchosen." Some of those unchosen paths are deeply connected to who we really are and want to be, but priorities during our growing-up years such as college, career, marriage, and raising a family often trump them. As we build our lives, certain key choices naturally go excluded.
When an early gift for music gets put aside in adolescence, for example, it can lurk in the shadows for decades -- calling for our attention and demanding a stronger presence in our lives. Gifts and talents like these, long "unlived," become more insistent as we reach mid-life and beg for expression and full appreciation. Whenever possible, we should get out of our comfort zone and "just do it," rather than waiting until it's too late. As the popularity of the movie The Bucket List attests, this message resonates strongly among millions of people.
But whenever our limits or circumstances make it impossible, there is still good news -- there is another way, an inner way. The authors explain how using techniques such as "active imagination" can fulfill one's potential and lead to lasting satisfaction, rather than our having to wallow in neurotic suffering. Simply put, living symbolically -- and many useful passages demonstrate how -- is the avenue to satisfying our hunger for the unlived life "without upending the life you have worked so hard to build."
Thankfully, LIVING YOUR UNLIVED LIFE shows us ways to live out these tensions in healthy ways and to experience the fulfillment of a well-rounded life that we all long for.
- The book is very readable with stories, information and exercises that are understandable, doable and I am noticing I am able to integrate very sweetly into my life. At 55, this book is just what the Doctor ordered for my mid life questions!
- I've been a fan of Robert A. Johnson's work for many years. He was a student of Carl Jung at the Jung Institute in Switzerland. He uses mythological themes to illuminate human situations. In this book, he uses the story of Castor and Pollux to talk about the dimensions of human consciousness(one foot in conscious awareness, another foot in the underworld of the unconscious). As with many of his books, he advocates paying attention to our night dreams and trying to discover the themes that are happening in the unconscious. He wants us to engage the figures of the unconscious in active dialog, a technique called "active imagination".
- I gave this book a chance but I could not stand to finish it. It is full of platitudes and unsubstantiated statements. Anyone could write a book like this consisting of just lot of statements which are not supported by reason or argument. The central theme seems to be: if you do not deal with your unlived potential, it will affect you negatively whether you know it or not. So far so good. But there really isn't much more to the book for me after that. What makes it unreadable to me are the generalizations and statements of fact that are not in fact fact. For example, the authors state that seeking romantic love is really seeking God in the object of love, as this is God's last chance to reach a person.
However, since this book has gotten many positive reviews, I can only assume that it has helped many people. For that I am glad. It hasn't helped me. I feel like I wasted my fifty cents putting a hold on this book.

5 comments about Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class Second Edtion: Edited.
- This is the best exercise/health book I have ever purchased. Well illustrated and written. If you do Bikram Yoga this is a definite book to have.
- After taking Bikram Yoga classes for five months, I bought this book, and my practice will never be the same! Bikram breaks down every pose, through pictures and words, allowing you to truly understand what the body should look like and how it should feel in each pose. Even better, he also shows you through words and pictures how the body shouldn't look, allowing you to know what you are doing wrong. I would recommened this book to any Bikram Yogi, as well as anyone who is interested in a great work out for not only your body, but for your mind as well.
- This is a great book for Bikram lovers! Nice pictures of all the postures in his beginning series. Also dicusses the right way and the realistic way of doing the poses. "26 postures, 2 breathing exercises, every day!" Bikram created this sequence with his teacher Bishnu Gosh after Bikram blew out a knee in a weightlifting accident. Doing this sequence healed his knee without needing the surgery the doctors where recomending. I love the Bikram quote "you can [...] with the Gods, but you cannot [...] with the knees!" Lots of people experience this truth for themselves when they jump into a yoga practice with a little to much gusto:)
- I bought the CDs set for 24 dollars becuase I thought there would be some videos that would help me to make perfect postures but to my surprise the CDs are just Audio. I mean what the heck??? How can one get the idea of what Bikram is blabering???? Total wastage of the money and CD don't even work properly if you try to copy them to your disc. How sad and pathetic...
- The style is a bit annoying to read but the explanation of poses along with the (extremely dated) photos is very helpful especially for beginners.
I read the book through once... then realized that it is broken up into 2 parts -- for each pose. The top portion is for advanced students who have a general idea of the poses. The bottom portion is for complete beginners. Although Bikram writes in the book that someone who has never taken a class can follow the book, I would highly disagree with that. I think you need to have gone to a few classes to get a general idea of the flow, then you can read about each poses and tips to get a deeper stretch/proper form.
I wish they would have redone the photos for the updated copy. Now that I have read through it once, I find that I go back to it for reference for some of the poses I find more challenging. I would highly recommend this book.

5 comments about Staying Sober: A Guide for Relapse Prevention.
- This is an excellent foundation to understanding the complex causes of relapse and their early indentification. It gives good information on indentification of relapse warning signs and constructive ways to abort another sprial into relapse. This book is written to supplament your 12 step program and is most useful when coupled with a relapse prevention support group that is not AA. If you can find or found a relapse group this book will be invaluable and rated 5 stars. Only relapse prone alcholic's need read this.
- This book offers easily understood explanations of addiction and the relapse process. The book was offered to me through an out-patient rehabilitation program and has been an invaluable tool on countless occasions since. The book offers examples that you can apply to your own experiences. By fully understanding the cycle of addiction can the addict most successfully break the cycle. I strongly recommend this book to anyone suffering from the disease of addiction, the sober family coping with a drug addicted member, or those offering education on the subject.
- you were very easy for a computer novice (me) to order, pay, confirm, and deliver. thank you so much. look forward to more business with you. rosie
- Excellent, ease to comprehend book on the prevention of relapse from addictions. Author is well known in the field and this is a must for clinicians library. However it is easy to read for anyone.
- Great book for the newly abstinent. Describes the difference between not drinking and being sober. Provides a clear framework to identify signs of coming relapse and develop a plan to avoid it. I know this will be useful as I regain a fulfilling sober life.

1 comments about Rebound Rules: The Art of Success 2.0.
- Have you ever watched a person go through life and just said to yourself, "That man surely leads a charmed life." If anyone should fit that description, it would be Rick Pitino.
I had came into REBOUND RULES with a few prejudices of my own--I'm an enormous Kentucky Wildcat fan and I consider him "the best coach, if not, the ONLY coach" we ever had. So yes, you could say, I might have had a slight bit of a bias when picking up my copy of REBOUND RULES.
But what a refreshing surprise! Yes, there is basketball aplenty for all us Wildcat, Cardinal and Celtic fans. And Pitino goes far beyond that, taking the players and coaches, breaking down their good and bad points far beyond anything I'd ever expected.
I was also humbled by the way that Pitino shared the tragedies of his life. At times, I felt like a curtain was being pulled back, allowing me to witness firsthand his families pain. This left me with a greater admiration for Rick Pitino, the coach and the man.
There are so many good points I could make about this book, but I will make myself stop and leave you with only one.
In college, I attended a class for leadership and the textbook was nowhere near the caliber of REBOUND RULES. I think this should be mandantory reading for college freshman to help them develop PHD. And if you don't know what that means, read the book:)
Just a thought to leave you with.

5 comments about I Don't Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression.
- I honestly don't understand the many rave reviews! The title is misleading in that it does NOT help you to overcome depression. I do not recall any content that guides the reader through this disorder.
By the way, this is my first review and I'm not even the target male audience. However, my opinion mirrors that of my fiance for whom this book was intended. Usually we end up liking the library book so much we end up buying. Not the case for this book!
We both feel that this is more of an autobiography of his work with depressed patients. As another reviewer pointed out, it is basically a collection of stories. Even if the reader has the Exact childhood history/trauma and adult frustrations as one of his patients, I don't see any possible way for him to be helped with this book.
Most of the stories vaguely allude to the therapy sessions with the doctor but he never told us how he managed to help each of them. Organization wise, it's more of a novel and is a disappointment for someone who is looking for clear distinct chapters/categories.
One star because there are a few things we can take away from this book. For instance, the doctor made some social observations about depression which helps the reader understand how some male depression came about. Some of the stories might help parents to become more sensitive towards their children so that they won't grow up with self-esteem or any other issues.
- I've read this book over and over. It's insightful and brave. Some of the less enthusiastic reviewers are missing the point. You can be happy indeed if the traumas described here don't explain your or your loved ones' depression. There are plenty of people who WILL be helped by this book, even if you aren't.
- This book is an awesome book. It's got a lot of interesting cases in it as well as the scientific reasonings. I'm not a big reader, but this book really got me hooked.
- Literate to a high degree, insightful, helpful, and even revelatory, Terry Real's book, "I Don't Want to Talk About It" explores, with heoric assiduousness, the causes, manifestations, ramifications, implications, and possible releases from the contemporary problems included by the term "depression". One of the books triumphs is its accessibility, another its fertiltiy. I Don't Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression
- This book was very insightful and honest and helps you to see your situation from outside all the emotions. There aren't always answers but it helps to at least understand the source of some actions and feelings.

5 comments about Ready for Anything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work and Life.
- David Allen's "Ready for Everything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work & Life" is excellent! As the companion book following his widely popular "Getting Things Done", it is a great addition to enhance personal productivity. I found myself revisiting the book time and again to get back on track whenever I felt overwhelmed. It inspired me to look with clarity and I discovered that it is entirely possible to make things happen with less stress and more effectiveness.
Another great resource I found that has helped me tremendously are books and podcasts by Ariel and Shya Kane. If you like David's approach, you might enjoy the Kanes' Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, and Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation. Though not specifically tailored for productivity, the Kanes' books have made a huge impact on my work and life because they have inspired me to look at the root- how I operate in my life and not to judge what I have done or see. It is very freeing to learn to live in the moment. I can be appropriate to what's showing up in my life and this helps me get things completed with satisfaction. I highly recommend them!
- Both books by David Allen: "Getting Things Done" and "Ready for Anything", are amazing. I recommend starting with the first book and then proceed to the second one. I have reviewed "Getting Things Done" on January 3, 2003, and since that, did not find a better English-writing author on productivity and time management. The only one who is as influential as David Allen is Gleb Arkhangelsky, with his famous book "Time Drive" and other titles.
"Ready for anything" is a shorter reiteration of David Allen's principles first laid out in the "Getting Things Done", but this reiteration has deeper philosophical approach.
The most valuable technique that I have borrowed from David Allen is e-mail management habits. While there are many books devoted to email like "The Hamster Revolution", "Never Check E-Mail In the Morning", "Time Management for System Administrators", for me the framework by David Allen is the most actionable, which I'm using successfully for five years so far.
I can also recommend the audio version of "Ready for anything".
- Compared to nothing, perhaps this book gets four stars, but you just can't be objective about the writer of the classic book "Getting Things Done." This little book is a very fine accomplishment, easy to read, and packed with great advice. The quotes which also litter this book from other writers, philosophers, etc, are excellent - it's almost worth reading the book just for those quotations.
After finishing the book, I thought, "good, but not great.." so I guess I'm sticking with that initial reaction. One of the best things about this book is it's length. It's short. Right to the point, not a lot of fluff nor repetition of the same ideas. It's easy to read in one sitting, and I think I'll end up reading it several times. I usually wait until the second or third reading to make a complete judgment on a book, so I'm wagering that this one may rise in stature after a couple of more reads. I'll also say it was well worth the price I paid for it - I bought the hardcover at Building #19 for $2.98.
- This book is a waste of money. It is a collection of emails that David sent to his subscribers and repackaged in book form. Just stick with the original book, "Getting Things Done"; you don't need the sequel.
Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
- 1) read Getting THings Done. The knowledge inside this work has been so powerful it has even effected how I sleep; much better. The information here is life changing but like most revivals it can be like thunder a loud exciting burst followed by stillness. Read ahead---->
2) get Ready for Anything 52 Principles.... I read a chapter from this book everymorning, after listening to GTD, and it has helped me through the most difficult part; maintaining enough enthusiam and focus to make it a way of life. The chapters are short to the point and filled with everyday, real life, easy to digest reminders on getting things done.
The fire is still burning well after the storm.

5 comments about 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace.
- If you are one of those that flips to any page in a book every now & then for a little insight & inspiration, on days when you need a little extra dose of "truth", then this is a perfect book for you. The pages are decorative glossy, and the chapters are full of analogies. It's worth the money!!
- This book is truly inspirational if you need a little pick me up. It will make you a little more happier and a little more nicer. It has a lot of good things to think about, about forgiveness and letting go of your past- which I had a lot of problems with and thanks to Wayne Dyer I've considered some of these teachings and activated them within my life.
- he's a bit religious but it doesnt get in the way of his screts for inner peace. also, he has a soothing voice.
- Well, after 4 or 5 wives who were pretty much 'enslaved' by Wayne Dyer, I know the 'spin' he expounds for the $$$,$$$... SOOOOO sad that he twists the truths of the universe (whatever those are) to his slimey advantage. Better to return to simple truths (like the Dalai Lama, Thich Nan, etc) instead of promoting this shyster. His wives could tell you he's a pr*ck. Sorry if this is dissolusing, but as most 'gurus' are fake...
- This book is very easy to read and inspiring. The book elaborates on 10 basic ideas. I shared this book with friends.
