5 comments about Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting: The Astonishing Power of Feelings.
  1. I read the book first, but I wanted to listin to the author also.Boy was I surprised at what I heard, this lady is very down to earth and tells her stories to where you can understand and apply them to your life very easly. She comes across very human and reachable, where her solutions and answers are not out there, they are easly applied. It's a shame she is no longer with us.

  2. Lynn Grabhorn believes that the direction our lives are headed (for the better, or for the worse) is due to our emotional feelings, not our thoughts. I believe that's a very powerful, useful message that we all need to remember, especially when we're experiencing those dreaded "downward spirals" in life.
The fact is that many of us wait for something good to happen to us in order for us to feel good. But that's getting things backwards, and if you take this approach, you may be waiting for a long time. Actually, if you make yourself feel good first and just be happy, you'll increase the chance of good things happening in your life. Ok, easier said than done; but that's the main message of the book.
The problem is that the author doesn't provide a good, effective plan for changing the way you feel in an instant, or even over a longer period of time. In fact, to say that your "thoughts" are insignificant and it's "all about feelings" is misleading, because your thoughts determine your emotional feelings. The fact is, what you focus on determines how you feel emotionally. So you can change the way you feel in an instant, simply by changing your focus. You can also change the feeling of others around you by using the same strategy. For example, if you tell a joke to someone who is in a serious state and they laugh as a result, what has happened is that their emotional state has changed, because their focus has changed. Of course, even though this concept is simple, that doesn't mean it's always easy to use that strategy. But I've found that the more your use it(once you've become aware of it), the easier it becomes to use it effectively. Just change your focus to something that makes you feel good, and you WILL feel good.
So in sum, I gave this book only three stars, not only because the author downplays the importance of thoughts in determing our feelings, but also because I believe the book lacks a powerful, organized plan for changing one's emotional state, either in an instant, or over the long term. Fortunately, Anthony Robbins has a good plan for that in his book "Awaken the Giant Within".

  3. Lynn makes the connection between just visualizing a "want" and getting into the feeling place of actually having it - powerful information once you really get it.

  4. I loved this book for many reasons One being it deals with ones well being. Yes many people I have recommended this to and even given as gifts, have found it difficult to put these good feelings into practice. I feel it is or was difficult as it proves the authors point that we have been taught backwards. No one person is to blame as it has been handed down for eons. We are what we attract as we are all magnetic energy fields encased in a body called human. I agree there are no victims in this life, victimization , like death , is an illusion. What we think about, we bring about regardless if you understand it or not. If you look around you will see how people do indeed create their own reality positive or negative and you are not "doomed" unless you believe/feel that you are and even those feelings can be changed. The reason why so many people get themselves into such tough or disasterous situations is the fact that they do not pay attention to what they are attracting, therefore focusing on. I feel and now know, Miss Grabhorn was into the law of attraction, an invisable powerfully magnetic force that we command regardless if we are aware of it or not. Just think of the law of gravity. You cannot see it but it is in full force 24/7 as is the law of attraction. For those skeptical regarding this work I wish to close with: Just because you don't believe in something does not cancel the reality of its existance. As you are focusing on your skepticism you are bringing about more skepticism.

  5. I have found this to be probably the most exciting book on the Law of Attraction that I have read, and I have read a plethora of them, what I liked about it was the author's obvious ethusiasm in writing about a topic she so eagerly wants to share with others. Whilst many have been critical of her writing style I actually found that is what was so good about it, the fact she just allowed to her energy flow through in her writing and as she says herself we need to let go and stop being such "serious adults" and return to our fun loving nature of our inner child essence. I loved the way she goes fully into the way that it's our FEELINGS that magnetises our experiences into our reality, not just thought alone. The Univeres responds to our feelings (vibrations we're emitting)not thought alone. This why many people have done positive thinking and affirmations for years with little result. And the author keeps on reinforcing this message throughout the book - because they cold statements that lack the necessary emotional charge. As fantastic as this book is I am now working through her "Excuse me You're Life is Waiting Playbook" which follows on from this book and although I have never been drawn to exercise type books, this quite different and very inspiring also as she goes into great depth about the whole process of analysing our psyche to determine our feeling processes, and turn them around to lead a life of absolute Joy and abundance. Also she comes from the perspective of the Divine Spiritual Beings we are. So many books claim to be life-changing, often a trite line, I can say if you apply her techniques you will change your life around.

5 comments about Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True.
  1. Fantastic book to help you consider what are the really important things in your life NOW - before it's too late. An easy-to-read, entertaining and thought provoking book about how to prioritise the things you feel you need to do,while you still have time. Don't leave it a day longer!

  2. How do you figure out what you truly wish for? What will give you meaning? This book suggests you answer those questions by looking backwards from your deathbed. The author encourages us to ask and re-ask the big questions. He provides five key questions to assess whether you are living a successful life now. He stresses the importance of continuing to ask and answer those fundamental questions in order to stay focused on whether your life is consistent with your answers. The author was prompted to write this book by a stranger who had asked him to imagine himself on his deathbed and to consider the question: "Was your life a complete success?" If not, "What would be the things you'd wish had happened that would have made it a success?" I think the perspective of pretending to be on one's deathbed and then look back is brilliant! This is a wonderful book - after you read it, you will continue to ponder its message. I recommend it along with a companion book for both body and mind, THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams.

  3. This little book has a very powerful, very simple, and life changing challenge. 5 Wishes....that's all. The first time I read this book, I made my list and felt like I was on top of the world for weeks. But the 5 Wishes I had listed weren't exactly what my heart said, they were what my mind said (and still I soared for weeks!). The second time I read over the book and made my list, my 5 wishes were authentic and have been very powerful for me. As someone who has read dozens of books trying to find the "authentic me", this one is my favorite. It is a very quick read, but don't let yourself get lost in the people Mr. Hendricks speaks of....get lost in yourself. I'm becoming the person I want to be now. I'm on the "right path". And this little book has provided me with the inspiration and desire to actually follow my heart. Thank you, Gay Hendricks!

  4. If you were on your deathbed and you were asked, "Was your life a complete success?"

How would you answer this question? If your answer is that your life wasn't a complete success, what things would you wish had been different in your life?

This thought-provoking and soulful inquiry is the basis for "Five Wishes." Through this process, the author comes up with five wishes for things he would change in his life:

    1. Lasting love
    2. Completing
    3. Writing from the heart
    4. Feeling God
    5. Savoring life

Each one of these wishes becomes goals by which to transform your life. This is an inspiring little book that covers a lot of territory.

You have to also read "Nexus: A Neo Novel" - a powerful story of love, compassion and transformation.

  5. A very thought provoking book. It's a quick read but very powerful. I have enjoyed this book very much and plan to give this book to my friends and family as a gift.

5 comments about Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves: Transforming Parent-child Relationships from Reaction And Struggle to Freedom, Power And Joy.
  1. For any parent who wants to break the controlling style of discipline that creates so many problems and weakens relationships. Naomi suggests such a refreshingly simple way of keeping a loving connection with children through communication. Highly recommended.

  2. Although I like Naomi Aldort's approach and techniques , I think that this book is not for everyone.
I agree that most parents should let go of their will of control over their children's behavior, and try to connect with them more on an emotional level. I also agree that bribes, punishments, time-outs and such methods are best avoided and do not work in the long run ( with my 3 y old they never worked even as short-term solutions).
But since parents are in charge, they sometimes need to take action in a firm and loving way. This book does NOT provide tools to figure out this proper way to deal with everyday issues.
It just points vaguely to the need to provide a strong leadership.
Perhaps for some enlightened people, like Naomi actually appears to be, there is no need for further explanation. Most parents would appreciate it though, including myself, who have always been a wishy-washy kind of parent.
Furthermore, I find Aldort's style a bit lousy and not very empathetic towards parents, despite her best intentions. While reading, I often found myself thinking " Gee, I'd really like to be like her" . But I'm not. So what?
Her approach stems out of her unique way to be an exceptionally nurturing, loving person rather than being a technique that everyone can learn ad apply.
It must be said that the books offers a very important tool with the S.A.L.V.E. technique which helps the parent to accept children the way they are, and validate their feelings. This is the most valuable part.
I have found a similar, yet much more useful and powerful approach in "Playful Parenting" by dr.L Cohen. "Playful Parenting" is a very nice book that helps you reconnecting with children and meeting their needs without giving up 100% on cooperation ( While I agree that power struggles are best avoided, Aldort seems to consider the parental wish of kid cooperation just a sneaky form of control, and gives the parent full responsibility in cleaning up after children).
Another thing I do not like about this book is that it treats children like little adults. Aldort condemns praise and expectations, but after trying the "praise avoidance" for a couple of months, I have realized that my daughter actually needs and craves my approval and my cheers. I think we all need some praise from close people who loves us and which we love. Maybe there are some people (m including Naomi) who are so grounded and self-confident not to need praise anymore, what can I say? I'm not amongst them.
I recommend this book to already "good" and balanced parents who want to fine-tune their skills. I would also recommend it to parents that have shy, introverted children. Anyone can give it a read, but most parents will not be ready to go for Naomi's method without some additional skills to help them "offer guidance" to the children going completely wild! This is especially true for parents of strong-willed little people, who will benefit from coupling this book with another book focusing on EFFECTIVE parenting skills and tips.

  3. This book has been one of the most transformative things i have read in my parenting journey. i am so inspired by naomi aldort's words and the way she guides you in your journey. i have found the book has had significant impact upon my life as a parent, and as a wife! my kids are happier and i am so much more connected to them.

i am not perfect as a parent but i feel naomi aldort affirms me on my journey and meets anyone who picks up her book exactly where they are at. there is no condemnation for anyone in the pages of this book, just love, acceptance and guidance. how refreshing and life giving!

i wish you many life changing moments as you read this book.

    bea marshall

ps. her website is brill too [...]

  4. I have read and reread this amazing book "Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves" so many times and have found it to be such a wonderful resource as I strive to be the best parent I can be. To be able to figure out myself as a parent first and why I act/respond the way I do, and then to apply that to the way I raise my child is truly a gift. And that is what this book is to me - an incredible gift that is changing myself, my marriage and my child's life as I can choose to parent him differently than I was raised. I was so impressed with Naomi's insights in this book, that I also bought her CD's for my husband so he can share in this rich knowledge for himself in the car on his way to and from work. He now wants to buy these for his dad friends as every day he walks in the door, he has some new information to share with me or to demonstrate with our son that makes our home such a happy place to be a child AND a parent.

Naomi has it right - parenting is no longer a struggle if you understand yourself first, and the way you were parented, and then you will be able to have your blinders removed to parent your children with joy and peace instead of the struggle we are falsely led to believe parenting is simply about. I wish every parent chould have access to such amazing insight in helping to change the world one parent and child at a time!

  5. Aldort's book is far enough outside the accepted norm for parenting that I wish she had spent more time in the text making the TRANSLATION between what people CURRENTLY practice and what she is INVITING them to practice. There is too much wisdom here for her to be dismissed because her perspective is so different from traditional approaches.

Apart from this criticism, however, the book is quite readable and what she recommends operationalizes for parents in modern times (among other things)the "turn the other cheek" sensibility of ancient wisdom.

2 comments about The Impulse Factor: Why Some of Us Play It Safe and Others Risk It All.
  1. I read a piece in Marie Claire about this book and had to buy a copy. It's really great! In short, the premise of the book is to help you understand why some people tend to play it safe and others tend to risk it all, including:

~ Risk-taking is chemical. 25% of people have a mutated gene that causes a dopamine deficit that makes them seek thrills. Whether it's a new job, skydiving, or choosing a risky mate, these thrills make impulsive people feel good.

~ There is a strong link between impulsivity and ADHD. Essentially, ADHD is a disorder that makes you dopamine hungry and you follow you impulses to make up for the dopamine deficit.

~ Love makes us all thrill junkies. When people fall in love their dopamine level spikes and serotonin drops.

~ Impulsivity is good for professional success. The most cautious workers receive the fewest promotions, report the lowest job performance and make the least money.

The book includes a code to go online and take The Impulse Factor test that tells you how impulsive you are, and whether you might be one of the 25% that have the mutation. Cool book!

  2. Nothing more I can add here that hasn't been said already in reader reviews and published reviews, this is a must read. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of this book!

5 comments about Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love: Female Orgasm Made Simple.
  1. but nothing new. i was disappointed, however i think this is the best information out there. i think there is a quite a bit that might be a bit sexist against men and that's not necessary!

  2. Maybe some people knew this stuff, but I sure didn't, at least not the way it's presented here. This book helped me to get off for the first time without having to go at it all night long.

  3. I'm what you might call a late bloomer. I saved myself for marriage, and stayed a virgin until my wedding night. Naturally, I didn't have anything to compare it to, and I definitely did not reach an orgasm that night. I remained faithful and married to the same man for 20 years. During that time, I never learned to masturbate or pleasure myself in any way. I could count on one hand the number of times I reached orgasm through intercourse alone. And intercourse alone is pretty much the way we always had sex. My husband did not like to perform oral sex on me since he was very religious, and thought it was dirty. After our children were grown, I decided there had to be more to life than what I had experienced so far. I divorced him, and became quite promiscuous, searching for that elusive butterfly--the female orgasm. I never found it until I read this book. This book does not assume that a woman is sophisticated or experienced in sex. I assumes that a woman who is unable to have an orgasm with just intercourse either (a) lacks knowledge or (b) is inexperienced. I was both. I needed to start at the beginning and work forward, just as the author shows you how to do. Now that I am having the time of my life with my new, much younger, boyfriend, we have moved on to more sophisticated things. Here is the helpful book, which was co-authored by Ms. Hutchins, that has taken my new partner and I to higher levels of orgamic bliss: The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex. It's a flip over book that has Fellatio on one side and Cunnilingus on the other. Buy both books and start a library!

  4. not as great as others have reviewed the book i could recommend female ejacualation and the g spot book which is much better read than this one

  5. This book was really disappointing. Basically, it tells women: "just give up, you will always take too long to have an orgasm with your partner; just close your eyes, be on top, masturbate, and fantasize while you do it". Nothing wrong with doing any of this, but I couldn't help sensing a feeling of defeat while reading this book...on one hand, the book has its merits for translating to words what many women feel about orgasm, that it takes much longer with a partner than alone, that men have trouble learning the right speed and pressure a women need, that sometimes we are just lazy to go through the whole "process", how frustrated women get when the sex is over and the women hasn't come, etc. (and this why I gave it 2 starts instead of 1 - for its honesty!). However, the solution that the author points out (the so called "3 step") is basically: (1) be on top of your lover (we all know this is the best position for women); (ii) masturbate while you are on top; and (iii) have fantasies to help you have an orgasm quicker.
Guess what the 5 min refer to? Women usually take 4 min to reach orgasm when masturbating themselves! So why not 5 min when doing te same on top of your lover?
In the end, I felt she was talking more about 2 people masturbating on each other, than about a sexual experience you can only have as a couple. This is quite sad. Her honesty and good descriptions added to the "solution" she proposes translates to me as the following message: "just give up women, and masturbate!"
I want to keep trytng to reach orgasm faster with my lover without having to masturbate. This I can do alone! Agree?

5 comments about The Minds of Boys: Saving Our Sons From Falling Behind in School and Life.
  1. As a mother of a young boy(5) who is experiencing several of the symptoms described in the book (disliking school, lack of participation, academic difficulties, occasional disruptive behavior, etc), this book has helped me, if nothing else, to be more empathetic, understanding and patient towards him. This in itself is worth a solid recommendation for the book. Our sons need love, support and understanding, despite the aggravation that their behaviour sometimes causes. In a world where teachers and doctors are quick to diagnose ADHD and prescribe drugs, this book also equipped me to have better discussions with doctors and teachers. It does not provide a quick fix, but strong support along the journey.

  2. A lot of boys are being drugged because their teachers don't know how to handle "boy energy" and find it easier (for them, the teachers) to teach boys who are stoned.

Gurian is a champion for boys' learning styles. Read this and buy a copy for any teacher who wants you to drug your son.

  3. This book is an especially good read for any one who interacts or teaches childresn. This book helped me to understand why my personality and my classroom management style of "sit-still" and "be quiet" is contrary to the nature of boys.

    I did learn a lot.

  4. I recommend this book to anyone who is raising a boy or teaching boys. It is a fairly easy read with lots of great information about how boys think, learn, etc.

  5. Good book by a well known, great writer. Check out his other titles, too!

5 comments about The Magic of Believing.
  1. The subconscious mind is a colossal dynamo. Throughout history, great rulers, warriors, statesmen, inventors, writers, artists, poets and religious leaders have used it to attain their objectives. You, too, can put your mind's remarkable force to work. In this enduringly popular, updated 1948 classic, Claude M. Bristol asserts that if you firmly believe that you can be successful, and remind yourself of this belief, over and over, you will succeed. His book is filled with colorful stories and anecdotes about people throughout history who used the power of belief to get what they wanted. He is a true believer that thinking about something the right way will make it happen. Many of Bristol's tales are intriguing, though some of his advice may seem a bit farfetched. For example, when guests overstay their welcome, try getting them to leave quickly by thinking, "Go home now, go home now, go home now." According to Bristol, if you formulate this thought when the conversation lulls and you can barely contain your yawns, "The results will astonish you." Whether or not this particular mind-control technique works, we recognize the lasting popularity of Bristol's inspirational book. For nearly 60 years, he has told people worldwide how to achieve their goals with the power of thought and attitude. Read it to learn his ideas on putting belief, imagination and suggestion to work for you.

  2. Phyllis Diller was right. This book has changed my life. it's a must read. I have it in paperback & audio cd. I listen to it daily!

  3. This book will teach you so simply the greatest of the secrets of succes.
I love teaching the loa to young people and I have passed out copies to help people on the road to self help and transformation, and I find this book one of the best to start out with.

  4. This is one of the best books I have read in the subject of manifesting and attracting what you want into your life.

5 comments about The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-Being.
  1. This book is a must read for anyone trying to make spiritual and emotional progress. The funny thing is, it is even for those just trying to get ahead in business. The Sedona Method will amaze you, if you do the techniques. It is like no other book I have ever read.

  2. This is actually a good book. However, this method's results are negligable at best; and otherwise seriously depressing. If you read half of this book, you'll likely be left with a feeling that you have too many suppressed negative feelings to overcome in one lifetime. The author says to welcome the feeling, then ask yourself if you're willing to let go, and then if you are, ask yourself whem. Then supposedly the negative feeling is released forever. What a crock of garbage.

  3. The system is simple but extremely powerful, and based on solid ideas and principles. While everything is explained clearly, and thus is easy to use, the book is comprehensive, providing various examples and potential applications

  4. This book is an excellent read for anyone on the path of personal development. Initially I thought "Why would I want to dive into THAT feeling?" But I read through the introduction and learned a little more about the techniques and was pleasantly surprised at the immediate improvement in my mood and emotion. The Sedona Method offers practical and effective key strategies. I refer back to the text quite often. This book should definitely be included in your wellness library!

  5. just started reading but I am truy enjoying this book.

5 comments about From Panic to Power: Proven Techniques to Calm Your Anxieties, Conquer Your Fears, and Put You in Control of Your Life.
  1. I can say that after going through "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" and reading,"From Panic To Power" I have come to relize just how important every word Lucinda had to say. This lady is an angel, and I thank Jehovah God for sending her into my life, I'd have no clue where I be today if it was'nt for her annointed words. THIS WOMEN TAUGHT ME WHAT THE WORD FAITH TRULY MEANS.

  2. OK...well written, but didn't tell anything we don't already know all over the internet on this subject. Basically, breathe deep and think positive. Duh.

  3. Only listen to a little but like what i heard, it makes you feel the fear and go for it. Because you can conquere your fears and be free.

  4. This author was actually pretty screwed up before she wrote this, and she's better now. She tells about what she (and some support group members) did to overcome agoraphobia and anxiety. If it worked for her, it has to work for anyone. This is great in conjuction with Edmund J. Bourne's Anxiety and Phobia Workbook. The techniques she used are more detailed in his workbook. They actually work if you can master them.

  5. I was literally ABUSED when I called for the "free cd" she does not really offer. After asking for it to be sent to me so I could make an informed decision I was told by her salespeople, "I've told you everything thats on the cd, you do not need to recieve it". And then I was literally BULLIED into ordering the extrememly expensive program with no chance to think it over. Even when I later became angry about the hard sell & tried to cancel the order, the person I spoke to literally tried to force, refused & even DEMANDED, that I not cancel my order! Only when I finally gave up on politeness & literally screamed at the salesperson, "I said CANCEL THE GD ORDER"!! & then threatened to change my credit card info with my bank, did the person finally cancel the order. This woman uses extreme bullying techniques to push a wayyyy over priced questionable product, taking advantage of people already weakened by mental distress. She & her infomercial need to be investigated by the BBB and consumer watch dog groups!! As far as all these supposedly good "reviews" this woman's "program" is getting, I have to wonder, after my own experience, how many of these she wrote herself (or had her toadies write for her). BUYER BEWARE!!!!

5 comments about The Seeker's Guide (previously published as The New American Spirituality).
  1. One Day She'll Darken: The Mysterious Beginnings of Fauna Hodel

I heard about this book..when I heard Oprah Interview Ms. Lessor...I ordered it..I found it to be informative..tying in all the religions..pointing us to our oneness...

  2. I am approaching my 50's and one of the first things that changed was my vision. This being such a wonderful book for those in their "wisdom" years, I would like to recommend that it is reprinted and made available in LARGE print. I am really challenged with the fine print and the word congestion on each page. Thank you for the consideration!

  3. Nicely written, personal and relevant for anyone "seeking" information on spirituality. It doesn't promise anything but makes a compelling case for meditation. Several tips for meditating are offered throughout the book and a variety of specific meditation practices are available to integrate into your life. I liked that the author understands that changing your daily routine to include meditation takes forgiveness and patience. If it becomes an exercise in obligations too early on, one may be easily discouraged.
Well done and enjoyable read promoting meditation as part of a spiritual path.

  4. This book is extremely hard to read because of the small print--some lines are squeezed together and the print becomes even smaller. The reader needs to be aware that this book is dry and much like a text book. The author concentrates so much time on her lifestory. There are many other books about spirituality that are positive and uplifting for the reader to enjoy.

  5. I am about two-thirds into The Seeker's Guide. I read 10 - 20 pages per day. The subject matter is very interesting to me. However, I'm finding the writing tedious. I often re-read exerpts and have difficulty with Ms. Lesser's personal reactions to everything she has experienced. I find myself wanting to know her experiences but not her evaluation. She's traveled a phenomonal path and I'm anxious to learn about her evolvement, relationships, travels and teachers. Just as I begin to have some vicarious experience, I'm thrown off by another personal opinion she has. I find it distracting. To me, it feels like she wrote more for her personal gratification and not so much to assist the reader in a search for spirituality. Still valuable stuff!
