5 comments about Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives.
- If you consider this book as nothing more than "common sense", count yourself as blessed - some of us actually needed to hear it. I bought this book at a major turning point in my life and it changed the way I looked at my future. Dr. Laura is "technically" right on almost all moral points but she does, at times, lack grace which, I admit, bothers me. And yet, at other times, I have heard her exhibit heartfelt compassion to her callers. But anyway, it is not for me to determine the motives of her heart; I can only say her advice is sound and her standard is truth.
- I think every woman of all ages should read this book. It is interesting to read, simple to understand, and so true.
- I don't know. I bought the book as a gift and haven't spoken to the recipient since. Personally I loved the book myself
- I bought this for my sister and she loved it. I think it is good and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the character from the Gone with the Wind book.
- Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives
This book is ok. She certainly needs to have someone proofread and spruce up her writing. She said some things that might help some women who are in dire straights and think they don't know what to do. This was kind of common knowledge for me though. More of a reiteration of what I already knew.

5 comments about The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety: A Guide to Breaking Free from Anxiety, Phobias, and Worry Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
- If your life has been on hold while you have been unsuccessfully trying to free yourself from your struggles and suffering with anxiety, this workbook is for you. Forsyth and Eifert will not offer you more of the same old tips and suggestions on how to bring anxiety to its knees, but a kinder and gentler approach based upon mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion. The workbook is well-organized, easy to follow, and informed by both the clinical and research experiences that have made the authors experts in applying acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT)to anxiety disorders. A CD that accompanies the workbook is itself worth its cost. It provides an array of printable worksheets to take you through a series of exercises as well as audiofiles of 9 different mindfulness exercises that will teach you how to bring a more open and caring attitude to your experience of anxiety. This workbook is not only recommended to those who wrestle with anxiety on a daily basis, but also for those who have loved ones who do and to mental health professionals with anxious clients.
The workbook in particular is the pefect companion to Forsyth and Eifert's earlier practitioner's guidebook on ACT for anxiety disorders. Mental health professionals who are relatively new to ACT will find coordinating their services with progessing through the workbook with anxious clients invaluable.
- I am very excited about this book. I am a therapist and work with a lot of clients who deal with anxiety that causes them differing problems in life. The workbook is easy to follow and explains everything step by step. There are heaps of easy to follow exercises and it is written in a user friendly caring manner.
I love that it is based on the latest research.
I can use the excercises myself and this is the acid test for me. I never recommend a book that I would work with myself and get results. This will be a must have book. The downside is it that it makes all my other books redundant.
- After years of struggling with stress and anxiety, trying everything under the sun to fix my problems (with some stuff making things distinctly worse!), the message behind ACT was like a breath of fresh air. My problem wasn't the anxiety itself - it was with my struggles and ineffective coping methods. After some good work and reading books like this one, I can happily say that I am living a meaningful live in the service of what matters most to me.
I've been a member of the ACT community going on four years now. I've read several of the books, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Anxiety Disorders so I eagerly anticipated the arrival of this new workbook. It's safe to say I wasn't disappointed. I can say hands down this is the most powerful and useful self-help book out there for people who are struggling with anxiety. Period.
The authors approach this work with gentleness, humility, and compassion. If you're like many people who have been suffering from excessive stress, fear, or anxiety, you don't need more information or knowledge. You need something that works, and that's just what they're offering in this new workbook. The emphasis is on finding workable ways of living a more valued and meaningful life.
Here it is in plain English. If you're struggling with worry, fear, stress, or anxiety, and what you've been doing to control or manage your problems isn't working, get this workbook. It might just change your life.
- This book is excellent news for anyone -therapist or client - using ACT to work with anxiety disorders. It is written in an easy-to-read, down-to-earth, entertaining manner, accompanied by excellent illustrations, and a wealth of practical tools. I particularly like the way they place such strong emphasis on compassion. A CD is included with recordings of mindfulness skills, and pdf files of key worksheets. John and George do a great job of making ACT clear and accessible, in a simple but effective step-by-step program that nicely complements their textbook. It's a `must have' for any budding ACT therapist - and also for most of their clients!
- This is a great book! I have read a number of the ACT books, and without a doubt this is one of the best to date. Drs. Forsyth & Eifert have done a superb job of making complicated concepts simple yet effectively explained. The exercises are well designed and useful for a variety of problems. The authors write with a rare sense of clarity, expertise and humaneness.
I have used this book as an adjunct to patient care, and have also recommended it to people to use on it's own. The accompanying CD is extremely well done and something of value all by itself. As a psychologist who treats a large number of anxiety disorders, I recommend it highly.

5 comments about From Panic to Power: Proven Techniques to Calm Your Anxieties, Conquer Your Fears, and Put You in Control of Your Life.
- I can say that after going through "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" and reading,"From Panic To Power" I have come to relize just how important every word Lucinda had to say. This lady is an angel, and I thank Jehovah God for sending her into my life, I'd have no clue where I be today if it was'nt for her annointed words. THIS WOMEN TAUGHT ME WHAT THE WORD FAITH TRULY MEANS.
- OK...well written, but didn't tell anything we don't already know all over the internet on this subject. Basically, breathe deep and think positive. Duh.
- Only listen to a little but like what i heard, it makes you feel the fear and go for it. Because you can conquere your fears and be free.
- This author was actually pretty screwed up before she wrote this, and she's better now. She tells about what she (and some support group members) did to overcome agoraphobia and anxiety. If it worked for her, it has to work for anyone. This is great in conjuction with Edmund J. Bourne's Anxiety and Phobia Workbook. The techniques she used are more detailed in his workbook. They actually work if you can master them.
- I was literally ABUSED when I called for the "free cd" she does not really offer. After asking for it to be sent to me so I could make an informed decision I was told by her salespeople, "I've told you everything thats on the cd, you do not need to recieve it". And then I was literally BULLIED into ordering the extrememly expensive program with no chance to think it over. Even when I later became angry about the hard sell & tried to cancel the order, the person I spoke to literally tried to force, refused & even DEMANDED, that I not cancel my order! Only when I finally gave up on politeness & literally screamed at the salesperson, "I said CANCEL THE GD ORDER"!! & then threatened to change my credit card info with my bank, did the person finally cancel the order. This woman uses extreme bullying techniques to push a wayyyy over priced questionable product, taking advantage of people already weakened by mental distress. She & her infomercial need to be investigated by the BBB and consumer watch dog groups!! As far as all these supposedly good "reviews" this woman's "program" is getting, I have to wonder, after my own experience, how many of these she wrote herself (or had her toadies write for her). BUYER BEWARE!!!!

5 comments about Taming Your Gremlin (Revised Edition): A Surprisingly Simple Method for Getting Out of Your Own Way.
- Rick Carson does a great job of providing a practical approach to managing one of the most common challenges for people of all ages and stations. If you are looking for detailed clinical case studies you will be disappointed with this book. On the other hand if you have a sense of humor, or did at one time, this book will entertain as well as inform you. When you apply the concepts to your own life you will be even more pleased.
- This is a great book for readers who are willing to engage in some potentially serious self exploration with a real sense of humor. In the end there is no right or wrong way to "do" self exploration. The important thing is that we do it.
Carson offers some excellent strategies, insights and suggestions for raising awareness around the self talk (Gremlin) that holds us back from achieving our full potential. I particularly enjoy and appreciate the reminders to simply observe our own process -- to remain mindful and in the current moment context.
Fun illustrations engage our childlike (and sometimes childish) desires to bring the Gremlin to life, encouraging curiosity, imagination and play while downgrading the potential power of the Gremlin itself.
This is definitely not for everyone, but as a coach the question I would ask is: what is it you are resisting and why? The information is solid and has the potential to be life changing. Sometimes that which we resist has the most to offer. And sometimes it just isn't a good match. Open the book and see what happens for you.
- I have read the book several times and keep going over the chapter on awareness. It is the most helpful information in the book and very practical. Mr. Carson presents the "gremlin" as a means to convey these ideas, so take it with a grain of salt.
In truth this book has led me to search for others on the same subject and as such has been tremendously valuable.
- The voice that keeps you awake or wakes you up at 2am is that gremlin described. I have started using the taming technicques and wish I had learned how to notice, decide and choice options years ago.
- This book was specifically recommended to me by a lifecoach I've been working with. Like many people I frequently get in my own way. I related to the idea of "Taming your Gremlin", believing that the gremlin is that part of my brain or habit that tells me what to do and what I had better not do all the time. The lifecoach calls it the Saboteur. This book explores the problem of our powerful and deeply internalized voices that tell us what we can and cannot do,what we do and don't deserve to have in our lives. This author is clear, direct and amusing in his approach. The book describes common situations and scenarios, offering advice and guided exercises. Illustrations, imagery and anecdotes are used to connect readers to concepts that might otherwise be somewhat abstract. I haven't completed the book or gone through all of the exercises yet but I plan to keep using it for a while. It is handy to pick up when you are anxious, stressed, feeling stuck or stymied by your own fears. It can definitely be helpful to increase awareness and offer simple and effective strategies to deal with these deeply ingrained thoughts and habits.

5 comments about The Orgasm Bible: The Latest Research and Techniques for Reaching More Powerful Climaxes More Often.
- This book, along with Sex, Your Woman and You: How to Sexually Please Your Woman in the Bedroom and Beyond has been a godsend! It really shows you how to improve your sex life. It's definitely worth every penny I paid for it.
- This book is packed with great info about orgams--how to get there, what they are and how to get more. A definite must read! I also liked Good Sex: A Woman's Guide to Losing Inhibition .
- This book reminds me of a Cosmo article with illustrations. For example, page 70 is nothing more than a brief explanation of caressing, use of feathers, silk and stroking. The book is only 160 pages and much of that is pictures. That leaves very little room for actual instuction.
Lacking is a detailed explanation of the orgasm and the anal component of the female orgasm. Anal sex receives only a few comments on pages, 122-125. I was fairly disappointed in the lack of information in this book.
For a better explanation of orgasm, I recommend "The Technology of Orgasm" by Maines and "Anal Sex for Couples" by Strong.
- I love the way she writes, so female sex postive. Because of this, I recommend that every woman who can have access to this book, should read it and make their own conclusions.
- Great writer, great pictures--all-in-all a lovely book. Every woman should keep one in her personal library so that she can have it handy for reference. I say it is ALMOST the last word on orgasm, because another book specifically address women's difficulty having orgasms while engaging in intercourse. Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love: Female Orgasm Made Simple tackles this problem with a simple, easy-to-follow three step technique. And if you really want mind-blowing orgasms, have your lover learn the art of cunnilingus. Reciprocate by learning the art of fellatio yourself. How? By reading this great book: The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex. It's a flip over book with everything you need to know about cunnilingus on one side and everything you need to know about fellatio on the other. Buy all three, and you will really be in business!

5 comments about Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives for 101 Days (No Excuses!).
- Cute book, I agree with other reviewers that the writing is poor. Sometimes that was a distraction, but to be fair, it's not the great American novel. Nothing special, but something to fill time. I'm surprised people are complaining that it wasn't erotic enough. If you read the description, it's obviously not erotica nor really self-help- just a cute love story.
- This is not a well written book. Not really that much fun unless you like listening to other people whine about there lives. Yes, I get that the author doesn't like Denver and he grew up 'poor' (who didn't?). Anyone that has kids will not sypathize with the routine juggling act that we ALL do with marriage, kids, family, etc. This one's going in the trash - never to be read again.
- This is a look into Doug and Annie's marriage and commitment to each other much more than a look into their bedroom.
I recommend this to anyone looking to get the passion and intimacy .
Other recommendation is: I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't
- Cute book, but it had some flaws. Unlike "Julie and Julia" this read like it was straight from some blog. Near the end (ahem), the author inserted (sorry) emails from his wife that weren't all that relevant to the story and felt like a lazy way to fill space.
The big problem I had was that the authors seemed to make use of hot and cold running childcare. Free care from his parents, who would fly in for weekends, then eventually a paid nanny. The kids never seemed to mind being left, never cried, showed very little resentment. We could take out a 2nd mortgage and do the same thing, but my kids would have thrown hissy fits every time. Of course, the Browns could write off the cost of each sitter and hotel because it was an expense related to the book. The rest of us have to make do.
Interestingly, they were back to once or twice a week after the "marathon" ended.
- I bought this book because I read it was more a light-hearted memoir, not a "how-to" for spicing up marriage. Douglas Brown and his wife, Annie, are a couple I could relate to-- dealing with life, work, children, while trying to manage "adult" time. They seemed to be a laid back, traditional couple, who really love their kids. I think I enjoyed learning about their family as much as I did the purpose for the memoir. Of course, it was fun reading about their trials in "sexploration." There were several "LOL" moments, particularly when struggling through sex during sickness and snot. Brown's knack for humorous writing made this a joy to read.

- Five Wishes: How Answering One Simple Question Can Make Your Dreams Come True
By Gay Hendricks
In a time when we are all looking for answers, we often overlook the necessity of finding the right questions. This is an easy-to-read book that guides you toward finding the right questions, and by reframing your answers, coming up with powerful affirmations. It also comes with a 17-minute video you can download that dramatizes the event that led to the book. Visit www.5wishesbook.com.Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide magazine www.lotusguide.com
- Fantastic book to help you consider what are the really important things in your life NOW - before it's too late. An easy-to-read, entertaining and thought provoking book about how to prioritise the things you feel you need to do,while you still have time. Don't leave it a day longer!
- This little book has a very powerful, very simple, and life changing challenge. 5 Wishes....that's all. The first time I read this book, I made my list and felt like I was on top of the world for weeks. But the 5 Wishes I had listed weren't exactly what my heart said, they were what my mind said (and still I soared for weeks!). The second time I read over the book and made my list, my 5 wishes were authentic and have been very powerful for me. As someone who has read dozens of books trying to find the "authentic me", this one is my favorite. It is a very quick read, but don't let yourself get lost in the people Mr. Hendricks speaks of....get lost in yourself. I'm becoming the person I want to be now. I'm on the "right path". And this little book has provided me with the inspiration and desire to actually follow my heart. Thank you, Gay Hendricks!
- If you were on your deathbed and you were asked, "Was your life a complete success?"
How would you answer this question? If your answer is that your life wasn't a complete success, what things would you wish had been different in your life?
This thought-provoking and soulful inquiry is the basis for "Five Wishes." Through this process, the author comes up with five wishes for things he would change in his life:
1. Lasting love
2. Completing
3. Writing from the heart
4. Feeling God
5. Savoring life
Each one of these wishes becomes goals by which to transform your life. This is an inspiring little book that covers a lot of territory.
You have to also read "Nexus: A Neo Novel" - a powerful story of love, compassion and transformation.
- A very thought provoking book. It's a quick read but very powerful. I have enjoyed this book very much and plan to give this book to my friends and family as a gift.

5 comments about Stick Up for Yourself: Every Kid's Guide to Personal Power & Positive Self-Esteem (Revised & Updated Edition).
- This is an excellent book. My son and I read a little bit of it at bedtime and keep a notebook to jot down our thoughts. It has improved his self-worth and it has helped me relearn social skills that I should be using in my own life.
- this is an important work. I've submitted it for consideration by the youth education faculty at my church.
- This is an excellent tool for kids...also another must-read for parents isBully-Proofing Children: A Practical, Hands-On Guide to Stop Bullying Can't fall victim with these two.
- Suggestions and anecdotes in _Stick Up For Yourself_ are helpful for opening discussions with little ones, particularly those who may be socially sensitive or (too) highly adaptable. I don't agree with all its suggestions, but the basic premise is sound -- that to develop personal integrity and firmness of resolve requires thoughtful practice -- and overall, it's a nice resource.
- Self-esteem is so important to promoting happy, balanced and empowered children. This is a great start for children since it does a great job explaining to them what their personal power is all about. A companion book for parents that I have found invaluable to parenting my children is:Bully-Proofing Children: A Practical, Hands-On Guide to Stop Bullying. It goes way beyond bullying as it gives you incredible strategies, stories to share with your kids and tips on buiding their self-esteem and communication skills so your child never becomes a bully or victim. Get them both to round out your bookshelf.
