5 comments about Perfumes: The Guide.
  1. One liners about how bad certain perfumes smell isn't really what I would expect from a book that takes itself so seriously as to be titled "Perfumes: The Guide". I was hopeing for something informative. Instead I got two divas with their claws out.

Yes, they're clever. They're also so superior it's nauseating.

The information in the begining of the book was helpful, I enjoyed that. But the reviews were a waste of time. My issue is not with how many stars they give a certain perfume or whether or not I agree with how much they liked it (or hated it so much they insulted and mocked it), I just would have enjoyed a little more subtance and a little less venom.

And for the people who were insuled by the bad reviews of their perfumes, I can see why you would be. This book is very insulting to what it does not worship. I can understand why someone who enjoys, and smells like a perfume that gets ridiculed in this book could take that a little personally.

  2. I'm older now, and I have a little more disposable income (and a lot more self-confidence), so I have had great fun using this book's witty reviews to guide me in trying and purchasing perfumes. I never had more than one or two bottles of perfume on my vanity table before. Now I have several dozen because this book has made me see perfume in a whole new way.

Yes, the book is a delight to read, but I have found it much more fun to actually use. Interestingly, I discovered just how interactive this book can be because I am a book lover.

I was intrigued by the book's description of a perfume by L'Artisan Parfumeur called Dzing! The authors likened the perfume's scent to a "secondhand bookstore." I purchased a bottle on a whim when I happened across it on a trip to New York. It was only when I was browsing at my favorite used bookstore days later that it struck me. The vanilla overtones in this fabulous scent do indeed evoke the wonderful aroma of old paper. I smelled my wrist, I sniffed the terrific, familiar book-laden air around me, I felt a happy sense of discovery and I was hooked.

Since reading this book, I have stuck it into my tote whenever I plan to be in a major department store. The book's vignettes ignite my curiosity and imagination.

Take, for example, Thierry Mugler's Angel. The authors deem this scent a masterpiece. They tell the reader the history behind the scent -- that it started as a joke which combined the elements of a masculine and a feminine fragrance, but that in making that joke the perfumer came up with a truly new kind of scent. The authors point out that Angel exists in a "high energy state of contradiction. Many perfumes are beautiful or pleasant, but how many are exciting?" Then the authors deliver the zinger, which gives me a mental image for placing the perfume into my own life context. They say that Angel evokes that " woman in a film who seethes "He's so annoying!" and marries him in the end." I got that! I could then smell the contradiction and the attraction in the scent. I purchased a bottle because the scent now "speaks" to me in a way it never could have before I read this book.

Is perfume necessary to my existence? No. When my children were small and we had meager time, money or energy, perfume was simply that handy bottle of Chanel No. 5 my mother had sent me for Christmas which I sprayed on to feel pretty on those infrequent dinner/movie dates with my husband (when we could get a babysitter.) Do I agree with everything the authors say about the various perfumes? No, but that's part of the fun.

This book has opened a pleasant door for me. Perfume has become a fascinating foray into sensual exploration. I enjoy reading the metaphors and similes, the creative adjectives and backstories describing these perfumes, and then experimenting with the truth of them for myself.

The authors have done something wonderful with this book. They have taken the mystique which advertising has always made sure surrounded fragrance and swept it away. But they have replaced that mystique with something better -- little personalities, if you will, for the different scents. Now browsing at the perfume counter has become like attending a cocktail party filled with famous people. Some will speak to you immediately. Some will stand back, but become friendly if you approach. Some are dull as dishwater. Some you will dislike. But being an insider at the party is exciting. I love that I have an invitation.

  3. I was disappointed in this book and didn't find it useful. It doesn't have entries for KL, Jess (or any Jessica McClintock), or Giorgio - some of my favorites from the past. Scent is a very personal issue for me. First time I ever returned something to Amazon.

  4. After reading an outstanding review in the New Yorker for this book, I went out and bought it, and have loved it. As that review says, it is a model for anyone who is interested in aesthetics, particularly talking about food and wine. It is a fantastic combination of art (whimsical, evocative, and funny descriptions) and science (describing the chemical families and compounds that make up perfumes). The authors provide a five star rating system for lots of perfumes, which makes for amusing reading (a friend who had just spent $100 on a perfume was shocked to hear it called "reminiscent of ham"), and has interested me in seeking out some of the five-star perfumes. This book also makes a great gift.

  5. If you love perfume, and I mean REALLY love perfume, then this book is for you.

It gives you details on every perfume on the market (and many that aren't but can still be acquired on the internet) and not just the facts but the EXPERIENCE of what it's like to sniff each one. I may not always agree with their opinion, but this is irrelevant: they have given me an idea; something to work with.

I am a person who will literally follow someone down the street if they are wearing a perfume I like. In recent years I had not fallen in love with any scent. This book fixed that. By buying samples of scents they recommended, I now have two signature scents.

Truly, for the perfume lover, a sumptuous feast!

2 comments about Love Matters.
  1. For years I've occasionally helped pass the time on a long drive or train ride by discovering Delilah's soothing voice as I surfed the car radio or my Walkman for some entertainment to help me stay awake. Since I only seem to hear her shows in the dark of the night and she has a name of one of the most infamous temptresses in history and her voice seems to personify the song of the fabled sirens of myth, I began to wonder if she was some kind of "reformed vampire of love." To me vampirism has always seemed a romantic incarnation of eternal life and love. The bite of the vampire is the ultimate kiss that drives humans crazy.
Naturally I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this autobiographical work that I figured would confirm of dispel my various fantasies about this mesmerizing self-proclaimed after-dark "Queen of the Sappy Love Songs." Was she the beaconing temptress calling the love-sick to their death on the rocky coast of the "Sea of Love," or was she a mild-manner grandmother taking calls and broadcasting from some suburban home's basement? This book answers those questions and many others.
First of all, Delilah informs the reader that this book is only the first in a series of her radio audience's stories that will be published by Harlequin. So those readers who enjoy this book can look forward to sequels. This book is also "a chick" book and since I'm a man, I probably don't appreciate the nuances of the tome as much as women will? This book consists mostly of stories shared by her radio show audiences. It's what most of us males would call a touchy-feely Oprah-Dr. Laura-Dr. Pill advice book tied together with brief transition segments about Delilah's own life experience. I was disappointed as I read the introduction because all of it is posted on Delilah's website or the book description at the beginning of her Amazon Book listing and I'd already read it. I was already wondering if I was going to learn much more in the way of biographical information?
My original guess that the voice behind the radio mike might well be a grandmother living in a suburb was pretty close probably because I knew I'd been listening to her off and on for decades. Delilah is the single mother of ten children and five grandchildren. Three of the kids are her birth children and seven of them are adopted. One of the reason's the self-described "Queen of Sappy Love Songs" is so obviously sympathetic and empathic with her radio listeners is that she has personally been through a lot of unhappy personal dramas and marriages. Her belief in God has carried her through her many trials. She defines or describes the different types of love in her first two chapters
"Love for Family and Friends" and "True Love." Her next three chapters and stories deal with "Lost and Found Love", "Second Chance at Love" and "Letting Love Go." A reoccurring theme with Delilah is that it's possible to love more than one person at a time and after you've truly loved one person, you will always love that person no matter what happens. That earlier love won't keep you from also truly loving others.
Delilah is a very loving person and what you hear her say on the air is the real her.
She not only has her own multi-racial family members, but she is the sponsor of her Point Hope Foundation whose main focus has been aiding a refugee camp at Buduburam, Ghana. She lives outside Seattle on "forty-five acres of gardens and farmland." More than eight million listeners a night on 250 plus stations hear her syndicated radio show across the United States and Canada. The limited information about Delilah didn't answer all the questions I'd had from only having listened to her show, but it was a start. I'm probably too cynical, clueless and not sappy enough to really get over-excited about this book, but I know many of my women friends and female relatives will be transfixed while reading it. And I did agree with many of the things she said about the various forms of love and even her very frequent Biblical references. Her constant reference to popular love songs didn't quite fit with all the Biblical references. That may work well on her show when she actually plays the music, but the juxtaposition seemed a little shallow when used in this tome. Again, I'm certain this book will be required reading for her millions of fans. She will also grab all the Oprah viewers. This is her radio show in print but with a little more biographical information about the host.

  2. This book will make you rejoice in mankind and also know that love has many faces and destiny makes a difference in the lives of so many people we will never meet. A 'hard to put down' book about all aspects of love and loving relationships.

5 comments about Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers.
  1. Every woman should read this book. The assessment gives you a starting point and you won't need to read every page...just those that apply. Everything else is a bonus. I swear! The material will enlighten you and stick with you years after you've read it. Practice will make it stick. I've given this book as gifts. Even if you are not ready to apply yourself to practice, just recognizing how you are perceived is worth it. Buy this book and read it today! It's not about becoming an overachieving "B" and man hater; it's about learning to play the game.

  2. I use this book all the time in my life leadership coaching with women whether they work in corporations or they're entrepreneurs because for women to succeed anywhere they have to grow to overcome their own self-limiting behaviors and beliefs.

What I love about this book is how clearly the 101 mistakes are organized under 7 broad areas. I am not big on quizzes because they often stop at only giving information. That is not the case here. Instead the author has created a quiz that very easily identifies and ranks an individual woman's 7 areas from strong to weak. Then once a woman identifies the two or three areas she's weakest she can read the chapters and further focus in on which of the mistakes she makes. The coaching tips and simple exercises at the end of each mistake support practice and self-improvement.

Every time I've used this quiz with clients they have benefited from the clarity and direction. This is one of the best thought out and useful books for self-employed women, managers and executives I have ever seen or used. To step up as leaders of their lives women must get to know and change self-defeating behaviors. Nice Girls can help get them started.

  3. As a father of two toddler daughters, I read Dr. Frankel's book to open my mind to ways I could avoid instilling in them unhelpful behaviors. I found a well thought out list of workable suggestions focussed mostly on a few central topics - better communication and ways to play "the game" without merely adopting behaviors typical to men. This book does not make judgments about how the business world operates mainly according to historically male behavior. Rather, it focuses on how to work within this world without changing who you are.

Some of the suggestions were definitely simplistic ("have a firm handshake") while others were more involved (defining your "personal brand" and promoting it to others). Mostly they were common sense business tactics and strategies for self marketing that one could find in countless business self-help books. Indeed, I found several helpful suggestions that I felt were applicable to myself. Overall, much of the advice could have been pulled from a bigger picture course for men and women on how to interact more effectively in the workplace.

In Dr. Frankel's book this information is obviously presented from a woman's perspective. She states in the first pages of the book that not all points will apply to any one person, that the way to use the book is to select those behaviors that are the biggest hindrances to the reader's advancement and then follow her advice to change those behaviors. She makes an attempt not to suggest women act like men, but rather "quit bein' a girl".

The tone can sometimes feel condescending which will be off-putting to some readers, but if one looks past this there is a range of good advice covering many topics. Dr. Frankel's frequent use of anecdotes from her consulting career serves to make the book readable without feeling like a textbook or list of action items.

I believe many women would find this book helpful in identifying and modifying behavior that is giving others the wrong impression of who they are or even masking their true capabilities. Men, too, can find new ways to understand women's behavior and hopefully achieve greater communication through that understanding. As a father I feel more aware of some things to focus on or avoid as I raise my daughters. This book will not feel useful to everyone, but for those who approach it with an open mind it can provide new insight into business relationships between the sexes.

  4. I hadn't realized just how many things I was doing on a daily basis that were keeping me from acheiving my full potential at work. Some things in this book applied to me, others did not, but I have learned what I have been doing that is holding me back from moving forward at work and am working on changing those bad habits. A MUST READ for every professional woman.

  5. Nice girls dont get the corner office is a big corner of negativity. If you want to feel aweful just give this CD a listen. Lois Frankel put me to sleep. She sounds like the the unseen teacher in the charlie brown series. "Mistake number 6854984742 dont pick your nose the board room...wah wah wah." Terrible. Dont waste your money. Try Tom Hopkins advanced sales survival training CD#2 hilarious, uplifting and helpful to all.

5 comments about Your Brain: The Missing Manual.
  1. When I picked up this book I thought it was going to be yet another one on memory and techniques for recall. I could not have been more wrong. This is an excellent book on understanding the brain and how it works in all its wondrous details. The author delves into the physical structure, the synapses, effect of hormones on the brain and the effect that diet has on those hormones, how it interacts with your appetite and other aspects of the physical brain. Not contented to stop there he then goes into other aspects of the brain including the effect of sleep or lack thereof, perception, emotions, and personality. Your Brain: The Missing Manual is very interesting and highly recommended.

  2. Was initially drawn in by the title of the book actually.

Some portions are pretty interesting. On a number of occasions, gives you a quick laugh and makes you think "oh, that's why i feel that sometimes".

Though i find couple of sections are abit tough to digest cos they introduced a number of medical terms, but overall it's still quite good.

I would describe it as a good factual book (interesting facts that you don't even realise even as you do some of those stuff everyday)... and which at the same time, also has a number of tricks you can apply or look out for in your actual daily life.

Overall, not a bad read.. assuming if you can pull yourself past the medically technical portion.

  3. When you think about it, the thing we think *with* is one of the biggest mysteries to us. In Your Brain: The Missing Manual by Matthew MacDonald, you'll gain some level of understanding about how the brain works, what makes it tick, and how you can manipulate it to work better. Even better, you don't have to be a brain surgeon to understand it all.

    Contents:
Part 1 - Warming Up: A Lap Around the Brain; Brain Food - Healthy Eating; Sleep - Taking Your Brain Offline
Part 2 - Exploring Your Brain: Perception; Memory; Emotions; Reason; Your Personality
Part 3 - Understanding Other People's Brains: The Battle of the Sexes; The Developing Brain
    Index

The thing I appreciate most about the Missing Manual series is the way they are designed to be readable for a "normal" person. Part 1 takes you through more of the "hardware" part of the brain... what the different parts are, the roles they serve, and how they interact with each other. Couple clear writing with plenty of illustrations, and you end up with a firm foundation in Brain 101. From there, MacDonald starts digging into more of the "software" aspect of the brain, as in how are memories stored. He uses the most current studies and findings to explain what makes you, you. The items that made this exceptionally interesting to me are the examples of people who, through some abnormality in the brain, don't quite process things the same way we do. For instance, "Henry M." had his hippocampus removed in 1953 to prevent seizures. The side-effect was that he lost his ability to form long-term memories. Imagine your mind stuck in a time warp, where your last memory is as it was before your surgery. Anything presented to you since then only lasts a few minutes before you have absolutely no recollection of it. By tracking what he could and couldn't do in this state, researchers were able to draw conclusions as to what role the hippocampus played in memory. That kind of stuff is something that amazes me, and confirms the fact that we still only have a fraction of a clue as to how the mind works.

If you're at all interested about your mind, or if you're simply curious about how such things as optical illusions work, this would be a great book to read.

  4. Science meets self-help in a survey for general-interest readers which covers everything from brain function to quirks, aging changes, boundaries between physical brain activity and psychology, and more. YOUR BRAIN is studded with color sidebars of information and plenty of color illustrations for maximum impact, making this a pick not just for high school to college level health and science collections, but for the general-interest library, as well.

  5. Opinion

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. After purchasing this book, I briefly skimmed through the pages of the book to get an idea of what it would be like. I was surprised to find the book was full of pictures and diagrams. It seemed like the book would be very lacking in actual scientific facts and more geared towards a shallow description of the brain. Surprisingly the book has a good foundation in science. The book is designed more as a practical guide to understanding and improving brain function, but it also provides the necessary scientific knowledge to understand what is happening in the brain. This books is a good mix of brain exercises and science and is worth reading.

    Section Synopsis

The book is divided into three general sections titled: "Warming Up," "Exploring Your Brain," and "Understanding Other People's Brains."

The warming up section focuses on the basic functions and needs of the brain. It covers the general anatomy and connections of the brain, the importance and results of eating on the brain, and the effects of sleep on the brain. This section of the book introduces the reader to the brain and focuses mainly on the science of the brain.

The second section of the book explores perception, memory, emotions, reason, and personality. It looks at the specific regions of the brain that are activated when the processes are going on. It also analyzes how and what factors promotes and limits these processes. Common misconceptions, voluntary and involuntary control, and evolutionary context are all addressed when describing these various processes.

The final section of the book looks at differences in sexes and development of the brain. The chapter on gender looks at genetic factors, relationships, and mindset in conceptual differences and relationships. It also goes into great detail mentioning the effects of various hormones. The development chapter gives a good, scientific description of changes in the brain at different stages of life. It describes the effects of aging on your brain and the age old question of nature versus nurture.

    Structure of Book

As mentioned above, the book is divided into three sections. Within each section are chapters that related to the overall theme of the section. A typical chapter of the book begins with a brief overview of the chapter. It then briefs the reader on structural portions of the brain and the role and effects it plays in the process the chapter describes. For instance the chapter on sleeping begins with a description of the biological clock, "This time-keeping device is embedded in a region of the brain called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN)." The chapter then typically describes the components of the specific process such as the different stages of sleep and what goes on during these stages. The chapter then ends on how best to utilize the process described in order to achieve certain goals. In the sleep chapter the book describes the amount of time one should sleep and nap to optimize the learning process. This is general format for each chapter in the book.

    Interesting Elements

The book is full of good pictures, graphs, and puzzles. It offers great optical illusions for the perception section and interesting puzzles for the logic section. The book also has unique notes, tips, and science boxes that are separated from the text. These are similar to "related information" sections one might encounter in a text book. The notes section typically introduces an interesting fact. Tip boxes offer addition reading and websites where a reader can learn more about a specific topic. Most of the books and websites mentioned are relatively new and current with the field of neuroscience. The science box gives an in depth description of a certain topic that may have been briefly introduced in the main text. The book also has a personality questionnaire and analysis the reader can follow in order to determine his or her personality type.

    Interesting Quotes

"They [dolphins] have the remarkable ability to keep an ever-watchful eye on their surroundings by putting half of their brain to sleep at a time."

"It's thought that over the past few million years, our brains tripled in size while our [prefrontal cortex] grew a staggering six times bigger."

"The amygdale is mature at birth, but the pathways that connect the cortex to the amygdale aren't as developed. This immature wiring just might be to blame for raging toddler tantrums."

    Recommendation

I feel that this book is worth getting for anyone interested in the brain or improving and understanding daily interactions. This book is not a reference book or textbook. The information in this book is scientifically based and does introduce neuroscience concepts and structures, but does not give an in depth understanding of neuroscience. Instead it uses the scientific information to explain neuroscience processes in a manner that relates to everyday uses of the brain. This book is an easy read and is packed with informative illustrations that make concepts easier to understand. This book can be purchased online or at any major bookstore.

  1. This book is an excellent guide to wholeness through story telling, but in addition to that it guides you through the steps necessary to make a personal relationship with your higher power closer.
    Don Busick

  2. The Spirituality of Imperfection: Storytelling and the Search for Meaning

This clearly establishes the important differences between "religion" and spirituality. An expansive read and reference source to store with your most prized literature.

  3. I immediately began rereading this book upon completion. It has given me a new outlook on my sobriety and spirituality as well as the wisdom of the ages. I look forward to reading it again and again as I trudge the happy road of destiny.

  4. I thought I would like this book from the few pages I glanced at on Amazon.com, but it is absolutely horrible. It's like a research paper where stories/anecdotes are strung together with nothing in common. The author supposedly has been part of the 12-Steps, but this book is as far from a "12 Step book" or a meeting as one can get. The main author (Kurtz) has many prejudices about the 12-step fellowships and totally ignores any influence of the Oxford Group in AA's roots. I realize that AA didn't follow exactly in the Oxford Group's steps (absolutely honesty was too much understandably for alcoholics) but I think Kurtz just revises history by eliminating all the influence that group had on AA.

The stories are mostly by rabbis, and I love generally rabbinical stories, but these are pointless, dull and just used to pad the book. There are absolutely no feelings of the authors included, so that's why I think it's like a dull research paper. Didactic lecturing that didn't bring out any spirituality (of imperfection or perfection) in any friends that read it also. I hated being lectured to.

Try a book like You Can't Make Me Angry or one that helps one to grow.

  5. This book arrived amazingly quick and the packaging was perfect. Book was as described and will use this seller again.

5 comments about Before You Leap: A Frog's Eye View of Life's Greatest Lessons.
  1. I don't know who really wrote this book because I don't think the writer takes any credit for it, but that's just another thing that blew me away about this book. I mean, the frog's right about almost everything. Some of the best advice and/or quotes I've ever heard seem to be in this book as well as other things I really needed to hear recently. I was pondering saying something like "it's so odd that the best self-improvement book out there was written by a frog" but then I realized that, nah, there's nothing odd about that at all.

  2. This is a charmer of a book directed primarily to those with fond recollections of The Muppet Show and to a lesser degree, Sesame Street. Kermit the Frog is given full credit for the authorship since it is his perspective we are reading, but the anonymous creators have taken a creative approach by having the first third of the book dedicated to Kermit's life story and legendary successes and the remainder a motivational self-help tome along the lines of Stephen Covey's The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. Both parts are amusing, though I have to admit I like the memoir portion a bit more since the personal history includes a nice tribute to Muppet creator Jim Henson and lots of pictures of the memorable sketches from The Muppet Show and follow-up movies. Born in a swamp as one of 2,353 tadpole progeny in a single family, Kermit harbored show business dreams at an early age. He didn't let his non-human standing get in the way of getting an honorary doctorate or being a substitute host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

In fact, he embraces his inner amphibian so much that he shares his fourteen lessons in leading a fulfilling life. Provocative chapter titles include "The Seven Dreams of Highly Effective Amphibians", "When Bad Things Happen to Good Frogs", "It's Not Easy Eating Greens", "Finding Your Inner Tadpole" and "Moving Your Own Cheese". My favorite piece is "Fridays with Fozzie", a humorous send-up of Mitch Albom's best-seller Tuesdays with Morrie, in which Kermit and his best friend Fozzie the Bear provide validation for one another on their journey toward self-discovery. The other significant Muppets show up, including of course, Miss Piggy, the subject of a Dr. Phil-type chapter, "Love Amphibian Style", on how to keep the romance alive. As you can surmise, this book is really geared for adults more than children, and yet the coffee-table format, large-font type and pleasing graphics are certain to arouse interest at any age. After all, it is written by a frog, and so typical of Kermit, his post script on the last page states, "Hi there! This is the end of the book. You can put it down now." He is lovably helpful to the end.

  3. Oh my goodness, this book made me laugh and smile more than any other book I've read. I adore the Muppets and Kermit and this has increased my adoration(if that's possible). Very well done. Very true to the tone and spirit of the Muppets. It was actually inspirational, as if Kermit's words could be anything less. :) Totally terrific and I reccommend it to anyone who appreciates the Muppets, wisdom, and silliness... in other words anyone with any sense at all!
    <3

  4. I gave this to my sister for her birthday. She is an adult and a fan of Kermit. It would be a cute gift for say a 16th 20th or 30th birthday or a graduation because it has a lot of good life lesson stuff in it. It wouldn't be that useful or entertaining for a young child, although the muppet pictures are awesome and very cute! The book I ordered had a few gray scuffs on the cover so that is why this didn't get 5 stars. The book itself is definitely worth 5 stars for content and pictures. I really need to get a copy for myself!

  5. Kermit reminds us that it may not be easy to be green, but it can still be fun! This book is a goofy way to look at life's priorities. It's encouraging and fun, however, if you're not a muppet fan, some of the things would seem childish and over your head!! For those of you who love Kermy, Miss Piggy and the gang, this is a must have for your book and muppet collections!

5 comments about The Three Big Questions for a Frantic Family: A Leadership Fable About Restoring Sanity To The Most Important Organization In Your Life.
  1. This book is written in true Lencioni style: a fable throughout. He likens the family to any other organization that needs assistance with management, focus, and purpose. I can see where this will be a difficult pill for families to swallow, but overall, I think it is a good idea. Personally, I would like to see some additional information for how to bring older children into the fold of decision-making for the family, but that may not play into Lencioni's overall belief system. I would recommend this book if you like Lencioni's other books and would enjoy reading about how to apply management principles to the family organization.

  2. Great book and great read. Another Lencioni hit. I would recommend it for all families. It would be great for newlyweds too, to help them start things right from the beginning.

  3. Great book. I enjoyed it's concise style, and interesting "fable" approach.

  4. Running a family can be even more challenging than running a successful business. In `The Three Big Questions for a Frantic Family', Lencioni takes proven business skills and applies them to running a family.

This is another of Lencioni's fables, which tells the story of Theresa, a stay at home mom, and Jude, a freelance business consultant. Theresa borrows her husband's business know-how to organize their frantic family as well seeks to find a balance between business and family life.

Lencioni uses three big questions to target what is most important about running a family while keeping it in balance with having a successful career. These questions are useful to those of us seeking to make changes in our lives - particularly vocational changes.

When seeking a new career, it is important to consider how it will fit in with your family life, and the three big questions should be asked by every job seeker. I recommend this book as a great starting point for anyone seeking to make changes in their family and working lives.

  5. As a relationship coach, I am thrilled that Lencioni has applied his talents to the family arena. As always, the book can be read in one sitting, offers an approach that is easy to apply and makes sense. If your relationship with your spouse is basically strong this will be a welcome tool to reconnect you and create some sanity. It is also a good diagnostic. If you struggle with answering the first question, that is a good sign that your marriage may need some external support.

5 comments about The Presence Process: A Healing Journey into Present Moment Awareness.
  1. The Presence Process is a life changing inner work where one directly meets the emotional suffering that drives our behavior in life. As the veils of fear, anger and grief are parted, the fullness of our essential love appears: awake, alive, free and ever present.
This is not a casual journey but one which requires commitment and devotion. Anyone who is interested in the asking of questions, the opening of the heart, the power that lies in the 'pain body' and present moment awareness will enjoy meeting Michael Brown and his unique approach to awakening.

  2. This book was a gift from my uncle and I'll be forver grateful to the writer and my uncle. This book has saved my life!! I was battling with bulimia and depression. I began the process 8 weeks ago and I've never been better. No therapy had done what this process has for me. I've been free for 8 weeks, I've reached my healthy weight, I found my issues and I'm working to clean my soul and my life forever. I highly recomend this book to everyone whether you have a problem or not. Thank You Michael Brown and David!

  3. I'm reluctant to go into much detail about the book, because it offers so much and each reader will respond differently. I did, though, buy 10 copies to give to family and friends. It is the most unideological approach to personal development that I've EVER come across. You will, though, experience resistance to his approach; but this is exactly what you should experience. It is not about changing your life, or anyone else's life, but about changing your life-experience. One foundation of his approach involves daily meditations, and if nothing else, he has helped me begin a meditation routine that I will carry with me my whole life. I have never felt so much gratitude for a book. Thank you, Mr. Brown.

  4. The Presence Process lives up to its promise. It is a practical, down to earth approach to shifting from reacting to responding to life. I have spent my entire life looking for something like this. It gives all the basic information on what it is based on and then has a step by step process that you can do. It isn't for everyone, but if you are ready for it, this will change your life.

  5. This is the best thing that ever happened to me ,everyone should be required to read this enlightening book ,it is the Holly grail and the truth !

  1. If you consider this book as nothing more than "common sense", count yourself as blessed - some of us actually needed to hear it. I bought this book at a major turning point in my life and it changed the way I looked at my future. Dr. Laura is "technically" right on almost all moral points but she does, at times, lack grace which, I admit, bothers me. And yet, at other times, I have heard her exhibit heartfelt compassion to her callers. But anyway, it is not for me to determine the motives of her heart; I can only say her advice is sound and her standard is truth.

  2. I think every woman of all ages should read this book. It is interesting to read, simple to understand, and so true.

  3. I don't know. I bought the book as a gift and haven't spoken to the recipient since. Personally I loved the book myself

  4. I bought this for my sister and she loved it. I think it is good and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the character from the Gone with the Wind book.

  5. Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives

This book is ok. She certainly needs to have someone proofread and spruce up her writing. She said some things that might help some women who are in dire straights and think they don't know what to do. This was kind of common knowledge for me though. More of a reiteration of what I already knew.
