5 comments about To Be or Not to Be Intimidated?: That is the Question.
- If you are openminded and pragmatic, then you will enjoy this book.
Ringer takes you through his own experiences of learning that what people say, and what people do are typically not the same thing.
You will learn of the three major types of people.
1. Those out to take what you have and are direct about it.
2. Those who say they feel bad about taking what you have and do it anyway.
3. Those who claim they would never take what you have and then express profound regret that they are trying to take what you have.
You might view Ringer's viewpoint as somewhat pessimistic, however if you believe that most people will seek their own advantage (often to your disadvantage) that his advice becomes very practical.
If you want a different point of view than your typical, the world is fair so play nice perspective, then whether you agree with Rigner or not, you will have one more perspective to draw from.
Cheers!
- This book has some nice insights about being intimidated by people in your life. Intimidation especially in business context that stop you from being successful. The most helpful techniques was the leapfrog theory to me.
- The author and others say this is an update on Winning... which I read when it came out. I agree with Susanna that this really should be early reading.
I see many differences in the re-write. More of his practical techniques are revealed here. This is done without losing the lessons offered. Between this and Looking Out for #1, great stuff.
- This is by far the best book I have ever read on how people act, think, react,on what them motivates and how best to shape your business.
I have the original in english but I learned of Mr.Ringer by means of the dutch translation of which I have made a short version for quick reference for myself. The last 15 years of my professional life I have had my own engineering business and I think that this has been succesfull mainly because of a consequent application of the principles Mr. Ringer explained in this book, for which I am very thankfull.
- 30 years after writing a classic, is it necessary for a rewrite?
Not in my opinion. I'm not exactly opposed to rewrites of Think And Grow Rich but the 1937 version is more than excellent. Same with Psycho-Cybernetics...the rewrite with added work by Dan Kennedy is fine but 1960's original by Dr Maltz is the one I read over and over.
And so it goes with Winning Through Intimidation. I'm not saying it's a first-tier classic like the previous 2 but I would definitely put it on the second-tier, along with Richest Man in Babylon, The Magic of Thinking Big and The Greatest Salesman In The World.
And therein lies the difference. The first tiers were rewritten to bring them up to date....and by people other than the authors.
But Winning Through Intimidation...ugh....totally not necessary. The lame Politically Correct new title is just the best example why not to buy this book. It just takes the punch out of it....Winning Through Intimidation is a superior title....no two ways about it. It grabbed you and made you want to read....To Be Or Not To Be Intimidated.......ugh. So awful. So trite...the Shakespearean rip off is as tired and useless as seeing "dictionary definitions" and "Mt Rushmore replacements" in advertising.
You know...garbage like: "Websters defines quality as....." or Hey they put the local used car guy's head on Mt Rushmore....hilarious and original....right? Yea, run that in the paper!!
And so it goes with the tired "to be or not to be." Utterly ineffective and unfunny.
Next we go inside the book. New cartoons? Why? They don't look any better...only different. A rewriting of the original text? Why Mr Ringer....why? It's like reading a junior high kid who wrote a passage about the War of 1812 from the Encyclopedia and put "into his own words". I mean the message is still there...but not the punch. It's not being written by the same guy who "meant it" when he first wrote it. It's now 30 years on and it's being looked at through different eyes and being neutered.
It's not unlike George Lucas or Steven Spielberg going back to their masterpieces and "correcting" them. Replacing guns with walkie-talkies in ET or making Han Solo "shoot second" in the cantina....ugh. It just takes the spirit out of what the original message was.
Obviously, seek out the original and buy it instead.

5 comments about Open Your Mind to Prosperity.
- I really enjoyed reading this book and utilizing its' key concepts. It emphasizes spiritual techniques and having faith in God to provide for your every need, and gives practical suggestions on how to incorporate this into your daily life. The author presents heartfelt examples from her own life, and those around her, which demonstrate the power of faith, prayer, visualizationa, affirmations, and decrees. She also does a fabulous job of dispelling the myth that poverty is a virtue, and outlines why this is an erroneous belief. If more people would practice the concepts outlined in the book, the world would be a much richer place in mind and spirit!
- Whoa you had better not be a Christian reaching out for this book with anys eriousness. It is New Age so far as I can see. Some sort of blurry weirdness between oddly invented new Age Christianity and get rich fundamentalist preachers having you mutter over and over, "Money is in my pocket Oh Lord!"
Yeah, yeah, you probably landed here from the "etiquette" training given by Gloria. This book is mentioned out there in that ole 29 dollar ebook. Fine, you too no longer hold your fork in the right hand, but frankly this book lacks "poise." I am too above muttering, "Money in my pocket Oh Lord." And I don't want to meet anyone with a "wheel" and money mantras. I prefer that they get out of my face.
- Here's another Catherine Ponder classic. The suggestions in this book will help you to achieve greater financial freedom, and more ease in your life.
This book like Catherine's other books, is filled with wonderful advice, powerful affirmations, and time-tested methods for creating prosperity in your life. Your mind is the portal to all that you have or don't have, so changing your mind will change your outcome.
Catherine's gentle, kind, Christian approach to freeing yourself from unneccessary burdens will help you to release your own good into your life.
Thousands, if not millions of us have prospered as a result of reading Catherine Ponder's books and implementing her advice. If you could use more financial freedom in your life, I encourage you join us !
- When I was a teenager, my Mother bought Catherine Ponder books and applied the principles within them in her life. The changes that took place were phenomenal. I didn't understand what was happening then, but now I can see that it was for the good of all concerned. I find it extremely interesting that the very thing I needed to release from my past to make way for my good is connected with Catherine Ponder. It took this Catherine Ponder book finding it's way on my lap 30 years later to finally help me let go of a situation from my past that was brought about by my mother's use of Catherine Ponder's principles. Can you say "Twilight Zone"?
This book, and all of Ponder's books, are amazingly simple and effective. Something about her writing makes the reader believe. I find myself full of hope again. I did not have a clue that my thoughts were so limited. I've been on this path for Truth in earnest for 15 years. Yet I had no clue what was getting in my way of prospering.
"The greatest wickedness is unbelief." It never fails to surprise me the capacity of our minds to NOT believe. We must have belief in something good. We must know that it is, at the very least, possible. We must have hope and vision for good. We are so ready to believe Murphy's Law instead of believing something good. We are so ready to latch onto limitations and negations. It is that in our minds that must change. The most powerful prayer that can be uttered is "Lord, help thou my unbelief!" Yet we have to be aware that we are unbelieving to remember to utter that prayer.
Catherine Ponder's books help us to believe. They give us hope, and "faith is the substance of things hoped for." She gives us that in all her books. Her enthusiasm and joy, and her belief, leap right off the pages to quicken our hearts and minds to God's good. To our good, which is our heritage.
Purchase any of her books and you are well on your way to the Kingdom, which is your heritage by Divine right. Her books are treasures. Apply these principles and your life will never be the same.
I mentioned that my mother's use of these principles changed our lives when I was a teenager. I look back now and see Divine Love's hands in all our lives. Those very changes that occurred motivated me to begin Truth seeking at the tender age of 18. It altered my life for the good, although at the time it seemed devastating for me. Yet that very thing chose the course of my life toward seeking Truth and God. Now, I find the treasure that my mother discovered years ago in Catherine Ponder's books, and they are helping me get back on track, and the years I thought were lost to me are being restored...Just as God promises.
- I have read dozens of these manifesting books and Catherine's book is really the best. She summarizes all the important steps and supplies plenty of stories to give us hope. Last but not least, she is very good at manifesting herself as the number of sales of her book proves. However, one little word of caution. I always thought that people who are really good at manifesting have awakened kundalini. So I was not surprised that Catherine describes in her memoir that she had a full-blown kundalini awakening in her thirties. (I am not sure she actually knew what was happening to her) Only after that she became really successful. Therefore, if the manifesting doesn't quite work yet, it is time to hit the meditation cushion or pray some more.

5 comments about Eldercare for Dummies.
- I recently met Rachelle at a healthcare meeting and was fasinated after hearing she had written her book. As an owner of a "free" senior placement service, I was anxious to read it and see how else I could advise my clients on such tough matters as eldercare. The book is with me wherever I go. Over the holidays I found myself counseling my own family members on how to talk to their in-laws when they begin to notice the ever changing physical events in their lives. I've only started, so there is so much more to learn. In the meantime, I never open the book without a highlighter in hand. Many thanks Rachelle!
- I am so thankful I found this book! Being the child of older parents, I did not grow up with grandparents. Now my parents are becoming my grandparents. Dr. Zuckerman's book has helped me communicate and understand my parents with a plethora of easy to find information.
- I made my holiday trip to the bookstore last week. I purchased a copy of Eldercare for Dummies, by Rachelle Zukerman, PhD. The book is packed with light humor and also great tips. I especially liked Chapter 2 with the section on how to help when help is refused. It's great.
- From the first page to the last, this guide offers practical, hands-on tips for navigating the maze of eldercare. As our population ages, more and more people find themselves thrust into the role of caregiver for aging relatives--often parents---usually with little or no background to prepare them for this role.
Eldercare for Dummies is easy-to-understand, engaging and witty, not overly technical or bogged down with research. Targeted directly to readers who face caring for an aging loved one, it guides them through assessing the current needs of the senior, choosing and arranging for appropriate care, ensuring safety, and helping to maintain happiness and quality of life.
- As author of Eldercare for Dummies, I would like to point you to a new film "The Savages" released in December 2007 staring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney. "Eldercare for Dummies" is actually reviewed in a scene in which a support group leader talks to her group members about the book endorsing it as "terrific." Great to see my book on the big screen, but more important, this is a film everyone needs to see -- especially children with elderly parents.

5 comments about How to Be Like Walt: Capturing the Disney Magic Every Day of Your Life (How to Be Like).
- With my life-long admiration for the creative genius of Walt Disney, a book with the title "How To Be Like Walt" proved irresistible and became the first book I chose to read about Walt Disney. I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Whether you are a Walt Disney fan - or a person who wants to live boldly and creatively - or someone looking for inspiration in adversity... this book is going to impact you in a beautiful way.
Both biographical and inspirational, Pat Williams not only tells you the personal story of Walt Disney (which I found surprisingly full of difficulty and heart-wrenching moments) but weaves it into an engaging how-to manual on living your life fully and at full-throttle. Without getting preachy or fawning, the author (who's a pretty accomplished and unconventional guy himself) allows Walt's own infectious energy and joy to permeate the pages and the reader.
I truly believe there isn't a soul who won't be better for reading "How To Be Like Walt"...because who among us doesn't have dreams lying dormant, waiting to come true? Who among us doesn't need a little more magic in our everyday? If a man who came from so little could find the will to accomplish so much despite the resistance of so many...why not you?
- One of the best "self help" books I have ever read. The author uses Walt's real life experiences to drive his points home. I could not put this book down. You don't have to be a Disney fan to appreciate the messages in this book. And if you are a Disney fan, you will LOVE this book!!
- This is the best book about Walt; and on how to get that magic in your everyday life. I strongly suggest this book for everyone looking to improve their leadership and make magic everywhere they go.
- I could go on for pages and pages about what was so great about this book, "How to Be Like Walt". But in the end all I really mean is this book is a must read for anyone who has ever had dreams; wants to be astonished; loves anything Walt Disney created; and likes to read a book they won't want to put down. Part biography; part self-improvement; part fascinating facts. Lots of quotes by Walt Disney, his family, Disney imagineers that worked with Walt; and more. Learn where it all started. Read about the failures, the triumphs, and the Walt Disney philosophy EVEN after success hit - Walt called it: "plussing". TEN STARS!!! No make that 1928 STARS!!! "It all started with a Mouse."
- More than a sugary biography of Walt Disney, it's an insider's look into the magic of Disney. Or rather the creation of it. Hard work, paying your dues, never saying quit are all values that make the greats great, but they defined Walt Disney, and the proof is definitely in the pudding. It makes a perfect read if you're just looking for interesting non-fiction, but a great book for anyone looking to learn some core values on the way up!

5 comments about Be the Person You Want to Find: Relationship and Self-Discovery.
- This is a simple, well written book that explores "Being the Person You Want to Find" rather than finding a specific person to fill your holes. In other words, it's primarily about your relationship with the most important life partner you will ever have... YOURSELF.
If you think about it, you are your only 100% GUARANTEED life partner. This book is about looking at your beliefs, behavioral patterns and conditioning in a curious, gentle and open way toward the goal of having a comfortable relationship with yourself. The unspoken corallary to this might be and thereby... avoid projecting your stuff on to others and get involved with the wrong people unconsciously.
This book is indirectly about relationships because by being the person we want to find, we are most likely to attract healthy people who will treat us as we treat ourselves. This book also helps us to look at our conditioning as a whole, which serves our relationship goals by making our unconscious conditioning more conscious.
I have read a number of Cheri Huber's books and have found them to be easy to read, very practical and entertaining. She does not overwhelm the reader with detail, but she provides a lot of useful and practical tools for those brave enough to do deep inquiry. She focuses more on lived experience in the moment than in-depth discussion of theory.
All of Cheri Huber's books emphasize the importance of being compassionate with yourself, looking inward and accepting whatever the present moment brings. I would say that she emphasizes that HOW you do something is at least as important as WHAT you are doing. She also stresses the importance of a daily meditation practice in most of her books, without being preachy about it. This is good advice for most of us in the West where many of us don't slow down enough to look inward.
I'm really glad to see that Cheri Huber made it as an author. I saw her speak in person and found her to be a very warm, sensitive and caring human being. I also felt she was underrated as an author at the time, but since then she has become quite popular. I often recommend her books to people because they have such broad appeal and written from a deep place of compassion and love.
- This book has lots of great information that is told in a very entertaining way. Highly recommended.
- Very insightful and also very short -- which makes it easy to review and refresh your memory and adjust your habits. While it is useful at improving relationships, its usefulness goes far beyond that. It helps guide a readers in adjusting their lives life to be more in accordance with who they "really" are; that is, it helps people disarm their various fears, anxieties, or defense mechanisms and live more authentically and rewardingly.
In an Amazon review of "Get out of Your Mind & into Your Life," I suggested Huber's book as a companion. I guess I should also do the reverse and recommend that book as a companion to this book.
I also recommend Lorne Ladner's "The Lost Art of Compassion," which blends Western and Buddhist psychology in very insightful ways.
I have found these three books personally very useful.
- The basic idea is to quit expecting other people to make you happy, and take care of your own needs. This books gives you insight on how to do that within your couple. It can also lead you to clues of how you keep making the same relationship mistakes...keeping yourself dissatisfied through the years...
- I thought this would be more of an in depth self help kind of book. It wasnt. Come to find out all this authors books are pretty much the same.
Could be good for others, but wasnt what I expected at all.

5 comments about The Broken Mirror: Understanding and Treating Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
- BROKEN MIRROR is simply Bible for "Body Dysmorphic Disorder"(previously called" Dysmorphobia").
Here in my country none is well-known about this debilitating disorder.
I showed to my Health-professional this book. He studied it and only then prescribed me some effective medication. I recommend all health-professional to read this book before they start treating a BDD-patient. Thanks.
- A through, informative, accessible introduction to Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), grounded in Phillips's clinical practice and interviews with patients. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a psychological disease characterized with an obsession with perceived flaws in the sufferer's appearance. In reality these flaws are minimal or nonexistent, yet to the sufferer they are very real and can create extreme anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and compulsive behaviors. Phillips's book was the only one of its kind when originally published and is still one of the few books about BDD. She provides a well-written and researched introduction to all aspects of BDD, including diagnostic criteria, signs of the disease, and the impact of the disease on suffers as well as friends and family. At the end of the book she discusses treatment of BDD, but this section is limited by the lack of research done on treatment and remission. Despite this hole, the book is a well-rounded and educational introduction to the disorder, conveying both statistics and emotional impact and proving a lot of information about the how, why, and what of BDD. I highly recommend it to those interested in the subject.
My interest in BDD is primarily academic and casual, therefore I cannot give feedback on this book based on either personal experience of psychological knowledge. The Broken Mirror, however, is an approachable introduction to those with no knowledge about the subject. Phillips starts from square one, giving a number of descriptions of what BDD looks like, how it effects patients, and how crippling it can be. These patient histories are so prevalent they can get tedious, bu they do a fair job of introducing the subject and impressing its severity and reality on to even the causal reader. The body of the book is a through description of BDD: what it is, how it is diagnosed, the thoughts and behaviors it contains, the impact of those thoughts and behaviors, who suffers from BDD, where the disorder originates, and finally how it can be treated. The writing style is clear and simple, important points are highlighted and chapters and subheading are logically divided, sections end with a complete summary, and the appendixes and index are useful and complete.
For all of the strengths of the book, the section on treating BDD is unfortunately its weakness. The book was written ten years ago, before much study had been done on treating BDD, and so most of the information and recommendations comes from Phillips's own practice and observations. Even now then years later, research on the treatment of BDD and long-term nature of the disorder is severely lacking. All in all, Phillips's advice is good: she encourages sufferers to seek help, a good idea no matter what form of treatment they seek, and provides information and suggestions for the friends and family of BDD sufferers about how to provide support, encourage the sufferer to seek help, and maintain a healthy relationship with the sufferer. Hopefully as more research is done we will know more about BDD treatment options and effectiveness, but for now Phillips's book provides a number of suggestions to point patients in the right direction, and it is far better than nothing.
I highly recommend this book to those interested in BDD and also (although I speak without any personal experience) to sufferers and especially to their friends and family. Not only is Broken Mirror a wealth of information about the disorder, it also provides comfort to suffers and information to friends and family, validating the disease, describing others's experiences with BDD and what we know about the causes of it, and creating compassion for the disorder. Because the perceived physical defect in BDD isn't apparent to others, BDD can be a difficult disease to understand, accept, or help with; Phillips does a lot to right that wrong by providing information and compassionate insight. Although the book is a bit repetitive and the therapy section limited, this is a well-rounded and useful introduction to the subject and should be useful to curious, sufferers, and those who are impacted by it alike.
- The book was just what I was after. It provided a good theoretical and psychological basis as well as what evidence based treatments that were effective in this population. It also provided great chapters on effective forms of medication to use, how to conduct an assessment and case studies. Definite recommendation if working with BDD patients.
- Katharine has provided a most comprehensive resource of body dysmorphic disorder. As a health care practitioner, I found the numerous case studies and anecdotes exceptionally detailed and provided insightful background into the suffering that is BDD. As humans, we all have concerns about body image from time to time, however this book clearly delineates acceptable levels of personal attention with dysfunctional and often debilatating behaviour. I was dissapointed to find the treatment section quite heavily focused on pharmaceutical medications, though there is also strong recommendation for supportive psychotherapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy. I feel this book is intended for health practitioners and non-sufferers to gain a thorough insight into BDD.
- I purchased this book 12 yrs. ago when it was first published, and was moved to tears many times while reading it. That copy was read and reread so many times, that I had to purchase another. I am a parent of a BDD sufferer (gender withheld), and have suffered with that family member as the BDD took hold in mid-teens (always thought it was a passing phase then), and for the many years that followed. Dr. Phillips has written a compassionate and understanding book on a subject that had never been brought into the light of today's society. Reading it makes me realize how many others out there suffer as our now middle-aged child has suffered through all these years. Dr. Phillips gives sound advice to those who are spouses, parents, children or friends who are related or connected to a BDD victim. This book offers hope and guidance...a must read for any BDD sufferer and for those who--like me--suffer along with them.

5 comments about Unlock Your Intuition: How to Accurately and Reliably Access Your Most Valuable Resource.
- Andrea Hess's book was both well written and informative! I had no problem keeping up with her ideas regarding intuition and soul theories. Her instructions for programming, clearing, and dowsing basics were easy to follow. Because you learn early on how to receive "yes" or "no" answers, this book quickly becomes an instruction manual to follow, provides a reference when you're confused, and always points you in the right direction for ways to connect to your intuitive self, while helping you discern positive from negative entities. Being able to reliably access my intuitive feelings gives me a sense of power I never experienced before. I am looking forward to working with my Spirit Guides--those entities who work with us on the physical plane and have a wealth of information to offer. What a positive force this book has been for my personal well-being!
- I've ordered hundreds of books from Amazon, the vast majority on personal development, spirituality and success. I am fascinated with possibility and potential. How can we live our ultimate lives?
If I had to recommend one book, Unlocking Your Intuition would be the one. When you are able to understand, use and count on your intuition, you no longer need to rely on sources outside of yourself. You are connected to the ultimate guidance. Potential becomes possible.
What drew me to Andrea's book was her very grounded approach to material that can be very airy and literally hard to grasp. She takes you through a very straightforward, step-by-step process that is easy to understand and follow. She shows you how to get clear answers by using language that is direct and precise to ask your questions. It worked for me because it is practical, yet, I could still feel the magic of the universe at work.
Since implementing the material in this book, my life has opened up and daily, I experience more ease and flow. One of the most powerful aspects of the book is meeting your Spirit Guides, being able to call on them by name and knowing how they can be of help. I've had lots of fun and great results since learning how to unlock my intuition.
- With her book, "Unlock Your Intuition", Andrea Hess has given us a truly practical way to reach our potential in all areas of our lives. As an Intuitive Consultant and Life Coach, her skills are unbeatable. Now she has put on paper a foolproof, step-by-step method of accessing intuitive skills that everyone can use. I have trained with Andrea as a Soul Realignment Practitioner and can personally attest that the steps she outlines in her book really do work. They are easy to use, yet powerful in their simplicity. I am happy to recommend Andrea's book to my clients and friends.
- Andrea Hess is one of my favourite people :). I've been an avid reader of her blog (www.empoweredsoul.com/blog) for a while now, and I can honestly say that Andrea's articles have played a big role in helping me to align with my highest path and purpose. Even though I came to Andrea's site already fairly familiar with my own intuitive abilities, I have had quite a few "a-ha!" moments while reading through Andrea's blog, and my spiritual growth has progressed in leaps and bounds as a result. It was no surprise that I therefore jumped at the chance to purchase Andrea's book when it came out!
Unlock Your Intuition is best used as a workbook. It is full of practical exercises to help you to hone your intuitive ability to the point where you can easily and reliably access it when you need it. I tend to read books straight through fairly quickly when I first get them, as I like to get the framework of the material in my head before I dig deeper into the nitty-gritty of the information. I did this with Andrea's book, skimming through each of the exercises - but since then, I've been going back (and back and back!) to the book, doing the exercises and adding new layers to my intuitive ability each time.
The book begins by focusing on the practice of divination, either dowsing using a pendulum or with a simple muscle testing exercise that you can perform alone. I would encourage you to pay particular attention to these grounding exercises - the discipline learned through this practice is invaluable, and it will stand you in good stead when you do move beyond this. The book's later chapters will help you take your intuitive skills further through receiving accurate information through asking open-ended questions and communicating with your spirit guides.
As with the articles on Andrea's blog, this book benefits from her ability to explain concepts clearly and simply, and Andrea's down-to-earth nature and great sense of humour shine through. This is a well-written and extremely valuable book.
- Andrea's step-by-step guide is easy to understand and follow, yet it addresses about anything you need to know about intuition. It is well organized and demystifies the process, making it available to anyone.

5 comments about The Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your....
- Excellent description, timely delivery, efficient, highly recommend this seller.
- This is one of Joyce Meyer's best teaching. It can really set someone straight who is stuggling with emotional or spiritual issues.I give it an A++++.I bought a copy for all of my children ages 31-26 and they all loved it.
- Meyer provides profound and relevant material in this book. I have struggled with anxiety and depression over the years, and this book provides hopeful guidance and scripture to loosen the grip of negativity that can overwhelm our thinking. If you long to live each day with a more positive outlook, read this book. It's a good place to start.
- Although I believe this topic needs to be tackled (every Christian battles with negative, ungodly thought), Meyer seems to jump around in her logic, trying too hard to prove her point without enough supporting detail. I had high hopes for reading this book and sharing it with my husband and friends, but it lacks examples and is redundant. On the contrary, the major positive is her extensive use of Scripture.
- I received a teaching once that basicly said that when you get right down to it the Devil really only has two methods for tempting us: 1. Pressure 2. Pleasure. The Devil has three maxims which allows him to pull this off : 1. You (your own thoughts, bad habits, exc.) 2. The environment (Government, religious oppression, the systems of the world, exc.), and 3. Other people. Joyce Meyer's "Battlefield Of The Mind" is mostly geared at the one maxim each of us have the most control over (You, yourself, your thoughts, and YOU).
Joyce masterfully explains how that old Advesary The Devil works by waiting for the right moment (he`s not only a parasite but he`s also a predator). He waits to see where your weak, when your most vulnerable moment is, and he waits for that moment to attack. The Bible says "Resist the Devil and he will flee from you." Perfect example is Luke chapter 6, The devil waits for Jesus to be 40 days and nights in the wilderness before he attacks. He didn't come the first day to attack him when our Lord was at his strongest. Oh no, our advesary doesn't play fair; he bides his time and waits for your weakest moment and attacks. Jesus resisted him and the devil fled from him (for awhile). Best thing is we have victory through our risen Lord this very day if we claim it. Joyce does a great job of illustrating this in this book(though I don't know if she used the Luke example I used above or not).
I really got a lot of insight from this book. For example, one of the concepts in the book (in my own words) was "what comes out of your mouth had to originate in your brain." Sounds simple enough , but Joyce had a masterful way of describing every thought we commonly have today and referring it to biblical passages. About half way through the book I began to realize that the grumbling, griping, complaining, and various other human emotions and thoughts I have are not uncommon to our time. The children of Israel went through these same emotions and they are all recorded in Gods Word. I used to ponder how stupid these people must have been, but now I can see myself in them. It really was a humbling experience! Many of us make the same mistake over and over again and ask God, "Why don't you do something?" Truth is God has always been willing to help us. We are the ones who get in God's way by not bringing our thoughts into the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Read this book and find out how you can change and train your mind to shut the door on The Devil and how to allow God to do what he's always been willing to do. BLESS YOU!!!
Hebrews 13:5b "for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
P.S. This book comes in many formats. There's the traditional version, teen version, devotional version, exc. It doesn't matter which one you use. Just read one of them. You will be blessed.

- This book was very helpful to me. I was in a very abusive relationship, and it was very helpful to know how to overcome being insecure, so I could move on and live my life to the fullest. I would recommend this book for anyone who needs to know what they're so insecure about, and also about whats going wrong in your relationship. It is very helpful--take it from someone who now isn't insecure about themselves, and can love people once again.
- I was sooooo disappointed. I had high expectations for this book and found that it was really nothing more then stories told from a counselors chair. This book told me nothing about how to overcome the problems, but instead focused on experiments conducted to account for jealous partners. Truly a waste...there are other books out there that are much more useful.
- Excellent Book !! This book was a gift for myself, and I am amazed at the extensive analysis of anxiously attached people, that it provides. I have a clearer view know as to why I behave like I behave in relationships, as well as why I tend to choose the partners I have chosen. It's all a cycle. It was a long read, but it's really, really worth it. All the examples of other people's experiences that are described in the book, were real eye openers. I am hoping this is a good step to start changing my behavioral patterns.
- My review is ditto to Crystal's and Ellie's reviews--not enough information about overcoming one's own psychological problems that lead to unhealthy relationship attachments and possessiveness.
- After what I have gone through, your book is like looking in a mirror. It's amazing how like me these other folks (case histories in the book) were before 1989. I can also see how people met eachother for romance purposes back then, and sometimes still do today. I mean we didn't have matching services like eHarmony and after becoming emotionally attached it is much harder to say, "I don't think we are are good match."
